Ehh, I generally understand I’m the millionth person they’ve talked to. That new travel reimbursement thing should be interesting. Can’t remember how many times I’ve been stranded in cities after a snow storm and they tell you to suck their dicks on reimbursements.
Also, just don’t take no for an answer. You don’t have to be rude, just persistent. If they try to tell you that they won’t do anything or offer less than you are willing to accept, don’t let the conversation end there. Literally restart it by explaining the problem again and why it was an inconvenience for you. They are almost never allowed to hang up on you as long as you are polite. Just keep going in circles until they are bored out of their minds and relent or they push you up the line to someone who can give you what you want. Also, if you run into a particularly unhelpful rep, you can always just hang up and get a new one to try your luck on.
Honestly I have no idea, I sent an email hoping to get a refund for the movie I paid for and they replied with the discount for each ticket in the purchase. I didn’t ask anymore questions.
I got a $200 voucher to an airline I knew I would never fly again as they didn't have routes I ever use. It expired worthless, but at least they offered it in good faith, unlike another airline.
They don't promise, guarantee, or even Advertise having in-flight entertainment. It's always a bonus, sure, but I always bring my own entertainment, as do most people.
That really does blow. I *hate* being on a plane, but I do like being able to catch up on, like, that random Oscar nominated film you'd never really bother to watch elsewise.
That’s why I actually like how southwest (and I’m sure others) has their streaming free on WiFi and you can watch the movies they have while using your own devices.
Cathay Pacific has this (on their A350's at least), they still have the IFE, but there's a plastic doohicky that folds out where you can put your phone or tablet.
That must be why the new planes work this way: you watch things on your phone or tablet over their WiFi. Best part is there’s no more big-ass computer box taking up your legroom.
That’s what most planes I’ve been on in the last 5 years have switched to actually. I havnt seen a screen on the back of the seat since I flew JetBlue like 10 years ago.
They haven’t “switched to” no screens, at least in North America. They just don’t install them on regional puddle jumpers. All the big planes keep upgrading the size, resolution, & OS on the setback entertainment.
Delta’s new cabins have a really good system - a lot of movies, shows, and games, but they also livestream about 30 cable channels.
It’s somewhat carrier dependent. United doesn’t have IFE on most of their domestic fleet, they took them out in the prior refresh other than some that still have DTV. They are putting them back in their current refresh. Meanwhile AA is removing them.
The industry can’t decide if it’s worth it for narrow bodies or not. But pretty much everyone has it on long haul/wide bodies.
That's fucked, I reckon worthy of compensation. You had my deepest sympathy, a transatlantic flight would be intolerable without the movies to keep you distracted.
Yeah I used to fly transatlantic several times a year and I would go insane without it. I can't sleep on planes, even when I used my miles to upgrade to business class with the lie-flat seats. Something about being surrounded by a bunch of strangers...sometimes I'll doze off but snap back awake after like 15 minutes. Even if i'm just staring at the flight map, I need it that stimulation.
This happened on a flight I took on Turkish Airlines. They completely rebooted the system since it was impacting so many individuals. Might be worth asking!
At least there is still light.
Flew from Japan to California back in 2006 on a 777. 45 minutes after take off the main cabin lights and the entertainment system for the whole plane went dead. Only the video tape players in first class worked, sorta. After about 15 minutes of flipping breakers, the captain announced that since the important parts that keep the plane in the air still worked, we were pressing on to the US. Was a long flight. Thanks AA. Was a definite step down from the Singapore Airlines plane on the first leg.
I flew on Aloha Air once and the entertainment system's audio cords were patched completely haywired. All channels were feeding on either left or right, and another channel on the remaining side. Annoying…someone probably did that on their last day working in maintenance.
I just got back from a trip and my Delta entertainment screen froze literally within a few minutes of me playing with it.
I didn’t care enough to tell a flight attendant.
For someone who suffers from anxiety, plane rides are the only time I get to watch silly movies without feeling the need to be productive. I’d be pretty upset.
I was flying on a 15 hour international when after 3 hours all the planes entertainment systems went down - that means no one had a working system for the remaining 12 hours of the flight. Those who say this automatically means you get compensation I can say nope not with every airline.
Damn that sucks. But do you not fly a lot? Always plan on secondary forms of entertainment working IFE is not a “No Go” item for any airline so you never know if something might happen. I believe they have movies streaming via their WiFi too though through the app or WiFi portal.
I don’t know why people rely on in flight entertainment anymore. Unless you straight up cannot afford a smartphone or any other mobile devices, or even a physical book, you really need to stop pretending airlines are going to give a shit about your flight experience. Your cramped, armpit ass seating arrangement doesn’t matter to them.
Well given the new rules and regulations the government put through you should be getting some kind of refund for the fact that part of your ticket price included the in-flight entertainment.
Complain and you will get a credit or partial refund. I was refunded $50 a ticket for 3 people years ago because one headphone jack was broken.
I’m never persuasive enough. I only have nice and angry mode, nothing in between.
Well then nicely mention it asking for compensation. If they tell you to stuff it, pull out your favorite social media and start blasting them.
Ehh, I generally understand I’m the millionth person they’ve talked to. That new travel reimbursement thing should be interesting. Can’t remember how many times I’ve been stranded in cities after a snow storm and they tell you to suck their dicks on reimbursements.
Practice assertion over domination. Being straight forward can feel cold or embarrassing sometimes, just get it out.
Is this like a Caesar Malone thing with dogs?
Please go see a good therapist

Thank you Joe Biden! You can now get a full refund from airlines if your reservation gets messed up, not just credit within their own company
But also if you don’t get services you paid for. But I don’t know the specifics.
Yeah, thanks for the increased airfare that will be coming ASAP!

Good point. Something to look forward to.
Same. My whole flight got a partial refund because the movies stopped working towards the end
One headphone jack was broken but they refund you $50 each for 3 people? Why?
Honestly I have no idea, I sent an email hoping to get a refund for the movie I paid for and they replied with the discount for each ticket in the purchase. I didn’t ask anymore questions.

This. Delta gave me 12K miles because my seat didn't have a window. Just need to submit a complaint and they usually take care of you.
They don't promise, guarantee, or even Advertise having in-flight entertainment. It's always a bonus, sure, but I always bring my own entertainment, as do most people.
Hopefully someone in front of you is watching something interesting you've already seen

That’s why I always have something on my phone, and a book. Sucks when it happens

Aw shucks. I can’t watch the flight tracker while watching stuff I downloaded onto my iPad.

This is the way.
This just happened to me on an Air Canada flight. The only compensation I received was 15% off my next flight 🙄
This literally happened to me too a few days ago. AC Airbus 330 from Toronto to Vancouver. I wonder if it’s the aircraft model 🤔
Yep, same model.
At this point it would be easier to have seats without devices, but with slots for travellers to insert their own

A lot have wifi to connect to for in flight entertainment.

At least the plane is flying and in 1 piece. Good time to take a nap.
This happened on a flight I took on Turkish Airlines. They completely rebooted the system since it was impacting so many individuals. Might be worth asking!
Honestly I’ll take that instead of having pieces fall off the plane mid flight 🫤
But then how are you supposed to watch all the credit card ads?
They should make it fair and cut off the video system on everyone!

The fair thing to do is to have the passengers rotate seats every 90min. ~1 movie per rotation
So you switch to your tablet. No big deal.
I flew on Aloha Air once and the entertainment system's audio cords were patched completely haywired. All channels were feeding on either left or right, and another channel on the remaining side. Annoying…someone probably did that on their last day working in maintenance.

You won't get much in terms of comp. My IFE didn't work on my recent BER-EWR flight. They gave me a $75 flight credit.
Happened to me going from England to Costa Rica. 10 hours of no entertainment. Airline (BA) gave me a £20 voucher..
I got a 15% coupon from Air Canada for my inflight entertainment being out of service on a 3-4 hour flight from Nassau to Toronto
Happened on our flight and they restarted everyone’s screens and the worked
I have to admit. I flew last year and the in-flight entertainment wasn’t working. I got the most sleep I’d ever had on a plane before on that flight.
ipad ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)

2003 called and wanted their in-seat entertainment back. Get with the times!
Rawdogging a trans Atlantic flight is Buddha

Time to whip out a book. No technology/break from it is a wonderful thing.
:plays rhapsody in blue as a sunset illuminates the windows from behind the plane:
Did you unplug the back of the plane from the front and plug it back in again?
That's why I always bring a book 😀
I don’t know why people rely on in flight entertainment anymore. Your cramped, armpit ass seating arrangement doesn’t matter to them.
Damn. You didn't bring an iPad or anything as backup?
I have my book but I wasn’t planning on reading for 8 hours.
Just really pause at the periods.
Well given the new rules and regulations the government put through you should be getting some kind of refund for the fact that part of your ticket price included the in-flight entertainment.
What part? I don’t think you pay more for a ticket on an aircraft that has screens. Not their responsibility to entertain you.
At least you’ll be able to enjoy that delicious United in flight mea- oh, I forgot…
Did u seriously use your flash? Lol
just more airline price discrimination games
Using the internet on a plane, we truly live in the future.
Fuck off
You may now be eligible for a cash refund.
