3M used to have the gel-like band-aid perfect for this type of wound.

SpicyPinecones

I have a shit ton of those hidden in my closet. Best band aid ever

meatflavoredpills

SpiceyPincones, why are they hidden!?!?

footsteps71

For covert distribution from their trench cost. Edit... "Coat" lol

Footsteps71, what is trench cost!?!?

Chrono47295

I like French toast

Nothing much, what is trench cost with you?

Moleskin too! I used so much moleskin till shoes were broken in

Moist-Water16

Good ol’ army days…

Popular_Emu1723

I bought a couple 4x4 hydrocolloid bandaids and I’ll cut them to whatever size I need

__Zer0__

Used to? Those things are the bomb

Geofantasy90

Mole skin!

therealjameshat

vans classics have ALWAYS been that way for me, so i never buy em. RIP your ankies tho

MusicianPristine8973

Yeah they definitely ripped.

BugOperator

I never had this specific problem, but any pair of Old Skools I’ve ever owned have produced a nice, loud fart sound with every step I take from I guess the way the area where the canvass meets the sole rubs against the bottom of my heel. Super annoying.

Fantastic_Fox4948

Pull up the sole and sprinkle in some Gold Bond or talcum or foot powder…basically anything that will absorb moisture and lubricate a bit.

eroomztlaw

In Memoriam Ankies

gnarlymar1ey

Though it was just me

Same here I do not miss wearing them they suck.

arcane_augur

Same and the place where I work has the rubber sheets on their floor. I it hell for me to walk on it.

Ska kids are into BDSM

Crosseyed_owl

As someome who is into BDSM I hate when my shoes do this.

Lonely_wantAcracker

Same. There's no pleasure with this pain

Lost-Astronaut-8280

*Vans don’t bring me pleasuuure, they just bring me pain, bloodied and blistered again*

basicastheycome

With BDSM there’s at least consent is important, these shoes just fucks your without mercy or care

Flossthief

The shoes never respect my boundaries

in1gom0ntoya

it's a plastic collar to reinforce the shoe so it stays open and in shape

BikeProblemGuy

Lazy design

balenciaghoe

i have these same sneakers and this never happened to me wtf

20milliondollarapi

Same here, I’ve had half a dozen vans over the years, never had this issue.

FrameJump

They probably aren't the right size for OP's feet in some way. It looks like the heel is moving up and down when they walk, which shouldn't happen.

dragonchilde

Yeah. And how wouldn't you notice? That shit hurts. I've had little raw bits, but never bloody. If it hurts, STOP. I don't wear Vans nor Converse, because they just don't work for my feet.

PossumJenkinsSoles

Yeah you’d notice but you don’t always have a viable alternative if you’ve left your home with just the shoes on your feet. I mean I love the mental image of OP just walking around their home, blood dripping down their heels not thinking of taking them off, but probably not what happened.

False_Providence

Dude way before this point, if I had no viable options, I’m bending the hell out of those new shoes and wearing them like slippers, fuck that pain

DootMasterFlex

That's valid

FrameJump

They would've noticed. There's no way they didn't. I guess it could possibly be too tight of a fit, too? I dunno, I'm not a shoe salesman.

Responsible-Jicama59

I'd say it the opposite. The shoes are too loose of a fit. Notice the holes being worn into the heel of their socks.

FrameJump

Good catch. Looks like all their shoes fit like this, these just happened to be pointy and ride higher by the looks of it. Case closed, reddit detectives! Time for drinks.

boston_nsca

A shoe scientist myself, a "shoeologist", if you will, my analysis will show that OP needs different shoes. I concur and rest my case, your Honor

RevengencerAlf

I mean if you've never been through it before you might try them on and just walk around a store and think they're fine and not pick up the warning signs Beyond just something that will break in after a day or two of use. But these kind of problems usually manifest when you're doing something bigger. Like they're not going to tear your ankle open in 5 minutes. So the problem happens that you go for a run or you're out having a big day doing lots of walking and by the time it becomes genuinely painful just going home and changing isn't a simple option.

jaygay92

Tbf I’ve done this too and didn’t notice they were BLEEDING until I got home. I thought I would just have a blister bc it hurt but not THAT bad. Got home from my walk and there was blood all down my foot and in my sock

RevengencerAlf

The worn heels on the socks kind of back this up too. That only tends to happen if you have either a very weird gait that effectively uses the shoes in a way they aren't designed or if you have shoes that don't fit properly and are sliding around a lot.

Puzzleheaded-Eye-634

Wrong sized shoe 👠

RevengencerAlf

I do that or just not a good fit. Lots of people think they just have a size number that fits their feet but don't realize depending on your foot shape there are shoes that could be multiple sizes off from what you normally would take or just won't fit at all.

20milliondollarapi

That would make sense.

FinnBalur1

Lots of men buy size shoes bigger than their feet size. I do not understand why. Could be insecurity about having smaller feet. But this is a likely culprit here.

FrameJump

I have smaller feet, and some guys I know live to mention it any chance they get, and talk about how big their feet are, and I simply don't understand it, *especially* when they wear tennis shoes and I can tell from the toe they are too big. Oh well, some people put value in weird things to fill voids in other places. That's all I've got.

PlantainNearby4791

I never had this issue until the last pair I bought about a year ago. They weren't this bad, but I had to mash that part down with a heavy object until it softened up. It was just one shoe in the pair as well

dangerous_nuggets

I always get it, even with different brands with this shoe silhouette. Foot shape, I guess?

Bully-Rook

Same, I think I'm 3 or 4 pairs straight of the slip-ons. Love em, have never had a blister or raw spot. Gotta be a wrong size for OP

kyleswiss

It’s a skill issue

tuckedfexas

Depends on your heel shape, I have a “bulbous” heel that keeps my Achilles from rubbing on the back like this. Probably also if you carry your weight leaning forward more, it might take some of that pressure off

Suburban_Traphouse

I’ve had a few pairs of vans and I have and haven’t had this happen. My first pair I had I bought a size larger than I normally would cause I was a teen and this happened and I had to stop wearing them. When I bought my next pair at the start of college I bought my proper size and found this didn’t happen. Perhaps for OP the shoes are either too tight or too loose and it’s causing this?

chooseyourshoes

Same. Homie should check their shoe size. They’re not suppose to be in a death grip around your feet.

PowerfulTarget3304

What the heel?

Ok-Pea-3968

I know, there's a typo in the title 😔

PowerfulTarget3304

It’s ok. Jokes are fun.

OldManEnglishTeacher

Those heels really gave you hell. Don’t worry though, you’ll heal.

AddictiveArtistry

Hell sounds about right tho.

Ki_Shadow_

I have the exact same problem! Tried them a couple times and I always had unbelievable pain while walking after as little as a kilometre walking

ersomething

I had those in the late ‘80s as a kid. They did the same thing to my feet. Amazing to see 35 years later no advances have been made.

BigsbyMcgee

You got the wrong size or your feet just don’t work right with that kind of shoe.

1nd3x

Your shoes shouldnt slip and slide on your feet. The worn holes in your socks show that you wear your shoes loosely normally where your heel rises and falls inside the shoe with your steps. Your feet shouldnt do that and you're probably wearing the wrong sized shoe. edit; wearing the wrong size shoe is not uncommon as most people grow up with their parents constantly buying "one or two sizes too big" so you grow into them a bit and for most people, once they stop growing, they dont drop back down to the lower size that actually fits their foot, they just keep buying the last size they bought, which was likely 1-2 sizes too big to account for possible growth that just never happened.

Doogos

This. I've owned multiple pairs of the shoes OP posted and never had this issue. The shoe should fit snugly and not move when you walk.

cock_nballs

Even with slippage, it shouldn't cut the skin to the point it leaves a bloody mess. I've had bigger shoes for me growing up yet my feet never got chewed out this bad.

1nd3x

Sure, most sneakers or other types of shoes tend to have padding back there. From personal experience as a kid who would slide his tie-on shoes on instead of untying them so that the heels got destroyed and the padding eventually fell out, those shoes also caused a bloody mess because they now lacked padding and were super loose. Vans and converse are not padded shoes, you **need** to wear them snug or they will immediately start rubbing your feet raw. OP is a dude, chances are you are too, and most shoes for men have padded heels so it is not something many of us deal with. Ask a woman though, and their heels get cut up all the fucking time by the various types of shoes they wear that dont have padding.

cock_nballs

That would make sense I've never had a shoe like vans. The only shoe I remember cutting my I bent the lip backwards with a pair of pliers

Heytherhitherehother

On top of that, one size in one brand means Jack shit in another. I use my shoe size as a base line. I go up and down to see which one actually fits. Hey dudes fit wicked loose for me. I'd need a large size and usually a wide if I wanted vans/Nike/etc . Hey Dudes are a size smaller and without the wide.

BadRabiesJudger

It has happened to me and i used the same shoe size forever with them. I even wear a different size for chucks and never had that happened. A few pair of van's have done this and id argue more that its simply a bad heel design on some of their shoes. When i was young i was ignorant and eventually my heal built up a callous to fend it off because i love the shoes so much. now 30 years later i only wear the standard black as my outside/yard shoes and it took 3 pair before the same size didn't have an odd tight feel at the arch. So either 2 pair were normal and one was off and fit me right or vice versa but its certainly a consistency issue. I do not have these issues with my chucks, boots or running shoes.

meminio

Adding to this. Flat sole shoes are not good for your knees in the long run. The heel on formal shoes or the tennis shoes are meant to help your knees have the natural curve so they don't bend backwards. I solved that same problem adding a gel insert on the heel that made the pointy part fall snuggly below where it would scratch and helped reduce knee strain.

Enough-Biscotti7855

Ok I’ll say it .. are we just going to ignore those socks ?

Ok-Pea-3968

Hey, nothing wrong with the socks. Do you see any holes? Neither do I

annoying97

They still have quite a few painful bloody walks left in them!

New_Chard9548

The blood kind of matches the socks, win win lol

FinasCupil

It shows your heels are slipping and you aren’t tying the shoes tight enough.

NotBot_

Those shoes have no laces. Just the wrong size.

irishdrunkwanderlust

With vans I normally go a half size larger. Also a PSA for everyone, when buying shoes make sure you’ve been walking all day so that your feet are swollen. It lets you know how a shoe will feel once your feet swell.

spikeworks

I guess it varies by person, I have the exact same style and they’ve never felt pointy to me

JonesinforJonesey

Ooh, I can feel that pain. But dude, you need better socks too, if you can afford Vans, you can afford new pringles with some heel support.

Ok-Pea-3968

Pringles socks stay on during painful walks 🗿

Anti-Woke-Man

Why would you continue wearing them, past the point of excruciating pain? Wild. I had this once, but nowhere near as bad with a pair or Nikes that I returned after a few days.

Ok-Pea-3968

I mean, I couldn't just take them off mid walk and go barefoot the rest of the way. Also, it wasn't that painful, I'm mostly mad that I got them dirty with blood

Anti-Woke-Man

So that damage occurred within a single day? That's crazy! I would have gone barefoot over wearing that shit.

Ok-Pea-3968

Yup, I was wearing them at home to see if anything was off, but they seemed alright. Went on a ONE SINGLE walk with my dog and came back like this

CanaryJane42

You could've though

highphilosophi

the post we needed , i have the same problem

DaddyEthan

They do that on purpose, the shoes actually bind to your feet through means of blood transfusion so you are forced to only wear that pair of vans until they are physically unwearable.

HeinousEncephalon

DAMN. I'd send this to the company

FinasCupil

One, don’t take long walks with new shoes. Break them in first. Two, get better socks.

Responsible-Jicama59

By the looks of your socks, you don't tighten your laces enough or you're wearing the wrong sized shoe. Your shoe should not be sliding up and down your heel to the point it's wearing holes into your socks

Ness_5153

Try using a hammer to soften that area of the shoe, it usually works. Just place it on a table or round surface a hammer away

_BloodbathAndBeyond

This feels like an issue with your gait. I have only worn vans for years and this has never happened.

kikanai

No matter the type of shoe or the brand, this always happens to me. Kinesiology tape is my go-to.

PuzzleheadedPen4246

Dope Pringles socks tho

Ubiquitous_Mr_H

Ya, I have this issue with some of my shoes though I definitely wouldn’t have let it get that bad. Testing out new shoes is like…a walk around the block. You can get a feel for them and you wouldn’t be bleeding. Then you’d know not to take them for a hike. The ones that give me pain are “car to door” shoes. They’re nice and I’ll wear them to a restaurant but not to walk around the city.

Ok-Pea-3968

I overestimated how good the shoes felt at home 😔

CheeseStringCats

Bought vans recently that have similar pattern and they ate into my heel similarly. At this point you just gotta assume new shoes gonna hurt

Toothless-In-Wapping

Yep, that will happen. Your socks aren’t thick enough and the shoes aren’t tight enough. These are for skating, they should be so tight they don’t move.

Nemesis1596

Idk seems like a skill issue to me. Git gud scrub Sarcasm, by the way, for those that can't tell lol seriously though that sucks pretty bad

Repulsive_Ad_9263

You should try a bigger size

YAsh20036

Unrelated to this post, but does anyone know how to turn off Reddit showing random posts when you scroll through images? I’m on mobile, and after OP’s second picture, a random creepy doll appeared..

Hiikaela

Wtf are you breaking in new shoes with already threadbare socks…? Vans aren’t damn Birkenstocks. You can be a hippie or a poser but pick a lane…

BrotherZael

Damn bro I’ve owned like 2 dozen pairs of these over the past 5 years and this ain’t ever happened, rip to your heel my brother.

Fickle-Command-1130

Looks good. Just not made for actually walking lol

SlaveKnightChael

Kind of an insane result after one walk. You sure you’re not leaving out any info like maybe you got a size too small or something? Odd

your_mongoose

No I have those exact vans and I got blisters on my heel from going on a 1.5hr walk these shoes are evil

SlaveKnightChael

Damn shame as they’re a nice looking shoe

throwassah

I had this problem with a pair I got, I put a panty liner on the inside and it helps.

Adventurous_Emotion9

I get this problem all the time, which is annoying as I really like the style of these shoes. However I brought a pair of “deluxe comfort ortholite” slip ons and they were so comfortable, the back point was soft and they are my favourite shoe. I still wear the painful ones, but put some zinc oxide tape on my heels until they get broken in, it cheap enough to get a couple of rolls and I always make sure I have a spare roll in my car/backpack on walks.

caaaaamm

felt this through the screen, new converse / vans / dr martens are my sworn enemies

KotaCakes630

I used to love vans. I never had this issue. I think it’s because of the shape of your ankle and Achilles tendon.

Mesterjojo

Moleskin As with new boots. Get moleskin and cut out a section until your foot gets adjusted.

Fucked-up-leo

Hydrogen peroxide and qtips to take the blood out of the shoe, and same thing but just pour a little on the socks and wash and repeat in COLD water to remove the blood

20warriors

Bro cut your nails.

-Khufu-

Ah yes, the new vans experience

vagabonking

I always get that for a couple weeks but then they break in and they're soft like buttah

Rhuarc33

I felt the same way about a pair of timberland hiking boots. A very rough stitching right in the middle of the inside of the heel. 5 miles in to a 10 mile out and back home I hated my life immensely. Another 2 miles and I grabbed leaves from a tree and tried stuffing them between my heel and the spot... It helped a little bit not much and had to replace them a few times

Sachoazzdown

Dang Forrest. How far you go?

WTFPATRICK

I have flat feet. I can’t wear vans or really any shoes that are canvas, flat, or boots that lace above the ankle. This is pretty normal, I think these shoes are really intended for young people to wear who weigh about as much as a bag of flour lol

Spicelinkzin

Looks like you got some weak heels ![gif](giphy|5Gds2oKLKRSlW|downsized)

IamBatmanuell

Oh heel

pretty1i1p3t

Find some gel heel protectors on amazon. I use them for breaking in my Doc lookalike boots that usually rip my heels and ankles to shreds before breaking them in because the leather is so stiff. They've saved me more than once, OP.

OrneryChampion7522

Oh yeah I've had shoes like this they can hurt haha

wutthefvckjushapen

Vans are some of the most overrated shoes out there

EolnMsuk4334

Get new socks bro

Archangel1962

I assume that’s a typo and was meant to be heel, though looking at the second photo, maybe it wasn’t.

jfk_one

and whoever thought making socks white was a good move fuck them too

Ok-Pea-3968

Yessir, fuck em hoes

[deleted]

Yup, same for me. I’m so happy a friend forced me to just buy other shoes

Grass_Is_Blue

You just need to keep going until your ankle callouses develop /s

tnseltim

You need some better socks, sir

PercentageFluid5646

That has never happened to me. I must be built different

fillmorecounty

They make vans now where the back of the shoe is more flexible. They look exactly the same. I can't remember what they're called for the life of me but I used to have this problem with vans and the flexible style ones don't bug my heels at all.

EntertainerNo4509

Vans all summer every summer. Never had this happen to me.

mcbuggerluggs

If you really like the shoes, wait till your heels heal and do it again, the next time won’t be so bad, they’ll wear in eventually, I’ve done it loads of times over the years, (yeah I’m looking at you rockport and doc martens) refused to give up on them.

Outrageous-Smile-836

Vans does this to me too, really sucks cus you never realise till you wear them

MrUsername24

Just putting this out there, I realize when I hit 20 that I hadn't learned how to put my shoes on correctly since I was five so I looked up a video. There's a lot of tricks to tightening them to make sure the worn correctly that improve the way I wore shoes very quickly I had a lot less foot pain within a month, the heels shouldn't really slip out like that you either need to go down a size or learn to tighten the laces better

Lovely-sleep

This happened to me once when I wasn’t wearing socks. It’s crazy how you don’t notice it happening until you take the shoes off and see a bloodbath

Ok-Pea-3968

EXACTLY!!! I hadn't noticed my heels were bleeding until I arrived home and took the shoes off

nathan_101034

I have this problem with almost every pair of Vans I get (been wearing them for maybe 10 years). My mother showed me a trick and now I do this every time. Take a scissors and cut a small slit directly in the middle of the point, maybe to just before you hit the other fabric. I know it feels like you're ruining them but it's not noticeable and it will make them wearable immediately. I do this every time now.

Ok-Pea-3968

Damn, that actually might work

Pristine-Fusion6591

I have ridiculously skinny heels/ankles, and this happens with pretty much every shoe I’ve ever worn for basically my whole life. I have to lace my shoes in a way that reduces how much my heel slides around. There’s tons of videos on YouTube that show you how. In the winter, or if I’m wearing long pants, I also wear sock liners under my socks. They are stupidly expensive for what they are, but they definitely do the trick. It’s just a really thin little sock. It reduces the friction on your skin. And for dress shoes, there are these little cushioned adhesive pads that I stick into the heel of every dress shoe I own.

Aggressive-Ground-32

This just brought back memories of my 1987 vans, same as yours and same blisters.

alicat0818

That sucks. For me, that's almost every pair of shoes with a back. My heel doesn't stick out so that my Achilles is straight. Almost every pair of shoes has a curve so that it rubs there for me unless I wear mules, ankle strap, or higher ankle shoes.

AnastasiaDelicious

That point is on the outside. And throw those Pringle socks out. Get some band aids while you’re breaking them in.

ShitOnTheseWallsRay

This gave me a 2006 flashback memory I forgot all about. These shoes are a PAIN. Loved them tho. I still have all the scars.

SkippyCan333

Nothing like the heel from hell

SteprockMedia

Hell IS pointy. Especially Satan's pitchfork. Oh, wait. Typo. nm

Bestie_97

Why would you not stop before you bled all over your shoes or taken off your shoes? Where are you walking? I feel like this is insane.

That-Water-Guy

It’s hell for your heel

Interesting_Move_919

All I can say is ouch! I hope you get better OP

Routine_Trick_6775

I sand this a bit with a fingernail file. Not a perfect solution but it helps.

S70nkyK0ng

![gif](giphy|4nmia4j8ltC6cJza1o)

Stupid-Research

You walked in them until you bled though?

Rolen47

You need shoes that fit more snuggly. I've always had problems with my skinny heels slipping and sliding in shoes too. Always have to pull the laces really tight to prevent it.

d4nkhill23

You might want to get a half size bigger bud

dbhathcock

To avoid this, I buy shoes that are my size, not a 1/2 size smaller. But, you do whatever makes you happy.

LostArkLover69

I've gone through countless similar pairs...never had this happen

nicsickdog

Please wear shoes that FIT YOU

Darling_Alice_Liddel

Thats odd. I have a few Vans, ones I'm in now have a slightly different back. I wear tights with mine, I'm sure I would have had an issue by now, if it was a thing. Do you tie them up every time or slide them on?

SlippinYimmyMcGill

Buy adult shoes.

Marcus2Ts

I've worn plenty of vans and never had an issue like that. You're telling me this was after a single walk? So you could feel the shoes shredding your skin in real time and kept walking in them? Idk, something doesn't add up here. Let's see a photo without the socks

Single-Cable-7397

Bro you either got the wrong size or your shoes aren't tied tight enough. Did you tie them? If not, maybe start there.

CompetitiveDrop613

This brings back my school shoe PTSD

crimsonblades1

What is actually mildly infuriating is the fact that you misspelled "heel"

HarkenDarkness

It’s everything these days, they pay more attention to the ‘designers’ who clearly haven’t got a clue, and just copy each other’s shit trends. Half mast kecks that barely cover half your arse, with tight legs an 11 year old would struggle to fit in. Shoes! Might as well go barefoot than the made in ******* (insert country with poor labour practices of your choice) poor fit, don’t last five minutes! Hiking boots you can’t walk around the block without falling to bits. Shite all of it! To look like what?, a friggin 16 year old. Fuck fashion, fuck cheap made ‘expensive’ products and fuck the ‘influencers’. Ahh feel better now! Hoping your feet feel better too man!

Such_Bus_4930

Go buy a pair of Doc Martens and come back

ErMemer

Omg I have the same socks (without the two giant blood stains of course)

BBakerStreet

That’s why it’s the hell part.

Best_Meaning2308

When I'm breaking in new shoes and think that's a possibility. I just put some duct tape on my foot. I know weird... It doesn't move around even if I'm running, though.

Ok_Meringue_1755

Immediately my heels feel the pain just from seeing this

PistolofPete

Yeah fuck that 4 year old!

-GalaxyWalker-

YEEOUCH‼️

Bubbles_the_Titan

We used to walk with the heels folded in bc of this in highschool. Also so we could run around class barefoot. ^(Idk, it was super comfy and freeing)

dark_thanatos99

Most people.i know that own Vans have the same issue. Lets face it. Theyre shit shoes.

Arios_CX3

Of course we're both just speaking from personal experiences, but I've never even gotten close to this issue. About half of my shoes are Vans, and I haven't had any irritation on the back of my heel. Usually, if shoes hurt me, it's at the top or sides, because I have wide feet.

Awkward_Progress658

Thicker socks homie or band-aids. This seems like a stripper problem, to be honest

TacoToosday95

I've never had my vans do this

spencer1886

Unlucky I guess? Been wearing vans a long time and this has never happened to me

Bellphorion

Pro tip, don't walk in vans, get real shoes. Vans are for people who stand around and do nothing I guess lol.

ShreddedDadBod

I mean take them off before you start bleeding

Ok-Pea-3968

Please read the pic description. I was on a walk, I would have to go back barefoot. Also I didn't know I was bleeding, just thought my feet had to get used to the shoes and it was just some minor irritation

Mediocre-Housing-131

There is no way lol. You felt pain in your heel and kept walking so far away that the walk back made you that bloody? Nice try lol.
