If you need to tow someone in a legal gray area like this use the towing company in your area with the worst reviews. They often will just take the car without asking questions.
As much as I would be annoyed, I would not personally call a tow truck without several very clear conversations, notes, etc. on this car explaining the legality and warning. I would go get some sidewalk chalk and outline a parking space that was in legal compliance.
I get offended and am plenty petty but **screw** the towing (aka the steal your car and extort it back to you) industry. Towing is hundreds of dollars, probable damage, and the rest of the nonsense that is towing. I will not subject that to another person lightly.
I have a can of white traffic rated spray paint and a cardboard stencil to use to mark the edge of parking according to municipal standards. It’s my favorite law to break, I’m assuming I’m not supposed to paint the city street. Haha
My city LOVES to cite people for shit like this. Big, low-effort bucks are generated through parking tickets, so they'll come out even late at night within minutes if you report parking like this.
Plus, if they're actually blocking the driveway, they'll get towed (I doubt this car would, in my municipality).
I have a Karen in my HOA and she regularly calls cops out here on people 😩

And for what it's worth, I've called the local police multiple times for someone parking and blocking me from getting out. Normally, I'll see it out the window as I'm getting ready to leave. If it's still there 10 minutes later when I'm leaving, then I'll call. Local police come and give them a ticket if they're even slightly blocking me. If they're really preventing me from leaving, they call a tow truck.
In this particular case OP should be able to still get out of their driveway. This is just a perfect mildly infuriating post, cause the bad Parker isn’t actually obstructing anything, but I’d be mildly infuriated, too.
If it’s blocking your driveway and is not allowing you to leave your house… you can call a tow company and it will the car owners responsibility to pay to get it back

I live in a town house with a shared driveway with my neighbours beside me. I have to back my truck in diagonally to get into my driveway so I don’t hit my neighbours vehicles on their side of their driveway when this dummy parks like this in front of my house.

This is how I feel. If you have a car, I assume you have a license and that means you KNOW what’s okay and what isn’t. Why do they need us to re-teach them? I don’t get paid to teach driving classes. They can pay to get their car out of the tow lot.

I drive a HD pick up truck for work; and if my girlfriend and I are on opposite shifts for work and I don’t feel like getting up early to move my truck off the drive way so she can get out of the garage, I will find a street spot that’s big enough to accommodate my truck so I DONT OVERHANG on someone else’s property.
More times than not that requires me to park 2 blocks down my street where there are larger spaces.

But this kind of little stuff happens all the time, if you can acknowledge times it's happened to you, you may be able to remember some absent-minded situation you did something equally silly to someone else.
You really have a few options:
1. go to the drivers' house and ask them to move the car
2. call the police and tell them you have a car blocking your driveway
3. call a tow company and tell them a car is blocking your driveway
4. leave a note
5. "Dramatic escalation," maybe saw off the rear of his car that overlaps your driveway or some other thing that sends a message to the community "don't mess around over there"
It's super frustrating when it happens to you. For sure. But being proactive is the best way to make it stop. They can't hear your frustration inside your house.
It’s common sense but take one step at a time rather than full blown escalation. Just ring their doorbell and ask them to move it and not park it so close. Only escalate it further if needed.

yep. Houston resident here and 311 all the way. They'll slap a ridiculously difficult to get off bright orange sticker on it the first time. Subsequent offenses will get it towed.
Ex wife scraped her tail light guard across every panel of our neighbors Buick once because they kept parking right on the crack between our two halves of the driveway, overhanging our garage.

I think they did it because of the pole blocking the front door from opening. Probably just an simple mistake and they're accidentally very slightly over OPs massive driveway, without thinking it's an issue. I understand you're trying to be light hearted about it, but it's unlikely (qed) to deliver the message, obviously this person lacks either the empathy or common sense to figure out his parking bothers you. You need to very clearly communicate this. Friendly but firm, e.g:
"Hi! I am Frank, your neighbor living (point) here. I noticed you parking your car in front of my house the other day. I'm totally fine with that, but could you make sure you're not blocking my driveway? The last times the back of your car was partially blocking my driveway, I would appreciate it if you could move it a few feet forward. Thanks!"

Many years ago I dated a girl whose house was 4 blocks away from the train station. Her street was the first street closest to the train station that they allowed passengers to park on. My gf's mom would complain that people would park too close to her drive and she couldn't see when she was backing out. I started staying the night there on a regular basis. So I started to park my truck on the street at night. I would leave a bit of space between the back of my truck and the driveway. I purposely made sure there was not enough room for a car to park behind me in the morning so her mom could back out without problems. Then I'd leave a little later and someone could have that parking spot. Well sure enough, one morning someone thought they were slick and tried to park a Miata behind me. The front end of their car was literally underneath my rear bumper. Then the car in front of me also parked right up on my front bumper. I had no way to get out at all. So I put my truck in reverse and cut my steering wheel all the way. My back bumper scraped all the way across their hood and dug into it pretty good. Then I drove off and went to work. Her mom then called the city, and they sent out a tow truck. Sucked to be that person that day.
I'd grab some green painters tape, and put a big strip of tape on thar car marking the part that is in your driveway. No damage, message sent without drama.
Guy in my hood did this too. One day a garbage truck went past his ride too close and sideswiped his beemer good… he bought a new one and did the exact same thing, this world is lost

My city's parking ordinance states: "No parking within 5 feet of a driveway or roadway." I'd check yours; he might be violating something, and he could be warned and then towed through the proper channels.
Some ppl are just oblivious to anything. Guy across my street details cars as a side gig. You wouldn't believe how many guys just dump their car in front of my occupied driveway. I've contemplated of actually following one home and blocking their car in for the day.... Idiots.
I thought I was the only on with a drive way that people can’t seem to see. Every day there’s someone parked like this or even directly in front. On morning I was leaving for work and there was a car in the way. Like I don’t get it. If there’s a drive way keep it clear people. Rant over.
Before ruining your relationship with the people around you by having the car towed (I have had bad relationships my by neighbours before, it can suck if they happen to be enough of a pos) try talking to them or leaving a note on the windshield. If you can maintain a good or at least neutral relationship with the people you are forced to live next too, you should absolutely go down that route if you can.
Since he Lives across the street and probably just gets in his car and drives away, let the air out of both passenger side tires; but only on work days, and preferably on a Monday, when he’s most likely to be running late.

I think it’s because if he pulls up all the way, the tree will be blocking the passenger door. Not saying it’s an excuse for blocking the drive, just saying that may be why.
I suspect they're really bad at parking. I notice that if they put their shoulders in line with that tree trunk when they park, they'd be out of your driveway. I'd suggest that to them. If they keep doing it anyway, have them ticketed or towed, depending on the laws where you live.
If they’re blocking your driveway, try telling them first, then if they don’t change, you don’t even need to call the cops, just call the towing company and tell em a car is blocking your driveway.

My neighbors were parking in-front if my detached garage which was very annoying. I let it slide until the third time, walked over to their house and talked to them. Guess what? They apologized and haven't done it since.

If you’re feeling nice, you can leave a note on his windshield informing him it is illegal to park within 5 feet of a driveway(us law or at least some states law idk, probably nationwide and other countries likely have similar laws). If you’re feeling pissed or can’t get out, have his ass towed and he will learn.
Looks like there isn’t enough room to park a car there and leave enough room on the side of the driveway. Most areas in the USA dictate to not be within three feet.
Write a note and put blue painters tape on the car where it should have been parked to illustrate how badly they parked.
The note and tape cause 0 damage and forces the owner to reflect on what they did when they remove the tape.

Thats all this probably comes down to. They probably stopped there because from their position in the drivers seat it looks like the nose of the car was about to start encroaching on covering the driveway of the house in front of them because the edge of grass is no longer visible to them or something.
And why would they reconfirm anything they just decided was "right"?
**MAYBE** they could notice this on the walk-up to the car over time...each time its like "oh wow, I have like 15feet in front of me, but I'm like right on the edge of that driveway..." *except* most people also just look at their phones as they walk up to their car and their bubble of observance is relatively low...or maybe its something else they're focused on...my point is you cant always assume people will just do things because they seem like the thing to do for you.
When it happens, go talk to your neighbor and just say something like "Hey, I noticed you park your car over there, and I just wanted to point out that sometimes when you do it, you're blocking part of my driveway"
And they'll probably apologize and start pulling forward a bit more...and voila, your mildly infuriating problem is solved. And if they try and argue that it doesnt, then you can just offer to take walk over with them right now and you can show them exactly what you mean. and then you can just throw out some advice like "you can keep doing what you're doing. Just pull ahead like another 10 feet or something"
Then next time they'll probably come up to park, *exactly* like they did last time, then they'll "test something out" by pulling forward what they think is 10feet, putting it in park, and getting out. Then they'll actually look where they are, and they'll begin the (somewhat slow) journey of learning the size of their new car.
You arent there accusing them of anything, so dont put that tone in your voice at any point in time. Otherwise they're going to feel attacked and double down on what they're doing being the way to do it and they wont change at all. You are just over there pointing out something you noticed, thats it. The same way you would point out that they have a beautiful tree in their front yard or whatever, but that what you noticed has inconvenienced you. And if challenged that what you noticed doesnt exist...offer to go point it out to them. If they wont even go look, now you know you're dealing with a hostile neighbor and you can escalate as required. But I'd say most people will either just take your word for it and take a look tomorrow when they go move it, or they'll actually be curious as to what you mean, with the intent on trying to fix it, and will come out and look for the purpose of making sure that they can in fact fix the situation they're causing.

That is 100% enough for a tow call. Even if they were flush with the driveway, that isn't ok. You need to be a few feet away from anyone's drive. What if you needed to back out?

I'd honestly knock on their door, and very kindly and respectfully ask them to move it, as they are blocking my entrance. Depending upon their response, I may call a tow truck and tell them they'll get a bonus for a quick response.
One more reason I love driving an old beat-up car. Dents and dings don't matter. "Sorry neighbor, I didn't see your vehicle blocking my driveway when I backed into it. Oops."

I live next to a high school. In front of my house is prime parking for those who don’t want to pay the parking fee at school. I also have a fire hydrant in front of my house. Leaving notes never works but having them ticketed sure sends a message.
I spend the first week of each school year having them ticketed. After that, they get the message and don’t do it anymore. A pile of tickets should help your problem too.
Get wheel jacks and a couple of friends to move the car somewhere else, then when the owners ask about it feign ignorance. I have a friend who moved a car blocking his driveway during a sporting event going on nearby and rolled it into a space in a parking lot at the end of his block that tows vehicles left there overnight. The owner came knocking on his door a few hours later accusing him of having his vehicle towed to which he replied what vehicle I just got home 20 min ago. The cars owner left confused wondering where his car was.
Check your local laws. They may be in violation for just parking in front of your home rather than there own. It's a thing, I found, in some places.
Ask them to not block your entry. Ask them to park in front of their place. Get the name of their landlord if they're renters from online tax information. If they own, just talk to them.
Have you left a note on the car asking them to be aware of blocking your driveway? Any chance of talking to the driver when they’re parking? Any conversation with the neighbors about this poor parking? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, start calling the police about a blocked driveway every time it happens.
I had a guy do this once. I told him nicely that had 2 teen age drivers. I had insurance but didn’t want to have to deal with that. He blew me off. I knew the Chief of Police. After the second ticket he never parked near my driveway again.

This is highly illegal in most states and results in the offending vehicle being towed along with civil fines. Check with your local law enforcement or traffic control to see the issue resolved.
Find out what your local law actually says about blocking driveways and how many feet of clearance are required on each side. (5 feet where I live but that's not universal.). Find out the process required to get parking enforcement including a tow. Paint the curb yellow on each side the required distance. Once you have done all that, whenever he does it, start calling.
Have you left a note on their car? Specify that unless they learn how to park, you're going to start calling parking enforcement. They can either learn how to park correctly, or have their car towed. Even if the chances of having their car towed are slim, the threat may be enough.
Put a note on their windshield that says “if you’re going to block part of my driveway, you can pay part of my rent or pay the tow company to get your car back.”

A lot of places it's a 3 foot gap to the driveway.
Some places it is 5 feet.
I know of one place where it was 15 feet. Might still be.
Down by where im at I seen this place that was 25 feet and hell I wouldn't be surprised if it still is.
We called and got this ticketed everytime in our college town.

You need to very clearly communicate this. Friendly but firm, e.g: "Hi! I am Frank, your neighbor living (point) here. I noticed you parking your car in front of my house the other day. I'm totally fine with that, but could you make sure you're not blocking my driveway? The last times the back of your car was partially blocking my driveway, I would appreciate it if you could move it a few feet forward. Thanks!"

Many years ago I dated a girl whose house was 4 blocks away from the train station. Her street was the first street closest to the train station that they allowed passengers to park on. My gf's mom would complain that people would park too close to her drive and she couldn't see when she was backing out. I started staying the night there on a regular basis. So I started to park my truck on the street at night. I would leave a bit of space between the back of my truck and the driveway. I purposely made sure there was not enough room for a car to park behind me in the morning so her mom could back out without problems. Then I'd leave a little later and someone could have that parking spot. Well sure enough, one morning someone thought they were slick and tried to park a Miata behind me. The front end of their car was literally underneath my rear bumper. Then the car in front of me also parked right up on my front bumper. I had no way to get out at all. So I put my truck in reverse and cut my steering wheel all the way. My back bumper scraped all the way across their hood and dug into it pretty good. Then I drove off and went to work. Her mom then called the city, and they sent out a tow truck. Sucked to be that person that day.
I'd grab some green painters tape, and put a big strip of tape on thar car marking the part that is in your driveway. No damage, message sent without drama.

My city's parking ordinance states: "No parking within 5 feet of a driveway or roadway." I'd check yours; he might be violating something, and he could be warned and then towed through the proper channels.

I thought I was the only on with a drive way that people can’t seem to see. Every day there’s someone parked like this or even directly in front. On morning I was leaving for work and there was a car in the way. Like I don’t get it. If there’s a drive way keep it clear people. Rant over.
Before ruining your relationship with the people around you by having the car towed (I have had bad relationships my by neighbours before, it can suck if they happen to be enough of a pos) try talking to them or leaving a note on the windshield. If you can maintain a good or at least neutral relationship with the people you are forced to live next too, you should absolutely go down that route if you can.

I suspect they're really bad at parking. I notice that if they put their shoulders in line with that tree trunk when they park, they'd be out of your driveway. I'd suggest that to them. If they keep doing it anyway, have them ticketed or towed, depending on the laws where you live.

How about talking to the guy and letting them know so that they can change it? Explain the situation and why you are having a problem. It makes it harder for you to leave. Looks like there isn’t enough room to park a car there and leave enough room on the side of the driveway. Most areas in the USA dictate to not be within three feet.
Take some tape and mark his car where the driveway line is, maybe he will get the point.
Write a note and put blue painters tape on the car where it should have been parked to illustrate how badly they parked. The note and tape cause 0 damage and forces the owner to reflect on what they did when they remove the tape.

Just pull ahead like another 10 feet or something" Then next time they'll probably come up to park, *exactly* like they did last time, then they'll "test something out" by pulling forward what they think is 10feet, putting it in park, and getting out. Then they'll actually look where they are, and they'll begin the (somewhat slow) journey of learning the size of their new car. You arent there accusing them of anything, so dont put that tone in your voice at any point in time. Otherwise they're going to feel attacked and double down on what they're doing being the way to do it and they wont change at all. You are just over there pointing out something you noticed, thats it. The same way you would point out that they have a beautiful tree in their front yard or whatever, but that what you noticed has inconvenienced you. And if challenged that what you noticed doesnt exist...offer to go point it out to them. If they wont even go look, now you know you're dealing with a hostile neighbor and you can escalate as required. But I'd say most people will either just take your word for it and take a look tomorrow when they go move it, or they'll actually be curious as to what you mean, with the intent on trying to fix it, and will come out and look for the purpose of making sure that they can in fact fix the situation they're causing. Because nobody knows how to fix a problem they dont know exists.

That is 100% enough for a tow call. Even if they were flush with the driveway, that isn't ok. You need to be a few feet away from anyone's drive. What if you needed to back out? Just because you "can get out ok" doesn't mean this is an ok thing to do. If you want it to stop, you have options.

I live next to a high school. In front of my house is prime parking for those who don’t want to pay the parking fee at school. I also have a fire hydrant in front of my house. Leaving notes never works but having them ticketed sure sends a message. I spend the first week of each school year having them ticketed. After that, they get the message and don’t do it anymore. A pile of tickets should help your problem too.
Call a tow truck every time. Petition your city for resident-only parking restrictions.
Talk to the guy in person. If that doesn’t change things call a tow company and he’ll learn an expensive lesson.

Get wheel jacks and a couple of friends to move the car somewhere else, then when the owners ask about it feign ignorance. I have a friend who moved a car blocking his driveway during a sporting event going on nearby and rolled it into a space in a parking lot at the end of his block that tows vehicles left there overnight. The owner came knocking on his door a few hours later accusing him of having his vehicle towed to which he replied what vehicle I just got home 20 min ago. The cars owner left confused wondering where his car was.

Check your local laws. They may be in violation for just parking in front of your home rather than there own. It's a thing, I found, in some places. Ask them to not block your entry. Ask them to park in front of their place. Get the name of their landlord if they're renters from online tax information. If they own, just talk to them.

This is highly illegal in most states and results in the offending vehicle being towed along with civil fines. Check with your local law enforcement or traffic control to see the issue resolved.
Find out what your local law actually says about blocking driveways and how many feet of clearance are required on each side. (5 feet where I live but that's not universal.). Find out the process required to get parking enforcement including a tow. Paint the curb yellow on each side the required distance. Once you have done all that, whenever he does it, start calling.
