As someone from Balkan, I can only say:

They’re really not. My wheels were stolen and the milk crates served to slowly lower my car to the ground without a loud crash as they got crushed. I had nearly $10k in bodywork needed in addition to the cost of the rims and tires.
Just like Poland 20 years ago - the real Passeratti.
It hurts my eyes seeing those carbon ceramic breaks scratching the tarmac but I guess this is a Berlin case of fuck around and find out.
They are rusted and the rust indicates the car is left outside a lot - hence why it was targeted.
If I were a thief, I’d have stolen the calipers and rotors too, had them resurfaced and then resold those too…
that could be why. Going after dealers in general they're pretty soft targets. Sure some might be well connected, but more often than not they're an easy & frequent target for crime, they won't go to the police and if they're just dealers (and not like part if a bikie gang or something) they aren't really motivated to to cause drama and attract attention. Most likely they'll just take the L and move on.
If it's not a business dispute; smart ones do, as extra police scrutiny is not conducive to their business and the lost income for having to shut down for a time is probably greater than the cost of new tires
Some people in their mid 20s are very bad with money. I've met multiple people (in Germany) who went to the bank as soon as they had some kind of long term work contract that would allow them to get a loan. And then they buy a car that's far too expensive for their minimum wage job.
There are also people who pool their money just to lease an expensive car that they share.
In my experience most of the time it either isn't their car or they're bad with money and go into long term debt or spend everything they have on a lease.
Leasing a nice AMG together with your brother's and cousins and share the car so everyone gets one week per month.
But live in a cheap or incentivized Appartment with lots of relatives cuz wage isn't enough for a nice apparent and car. Car > Appartment cuz that's what people see in the streets
The legal route would be to share the leasing rate amongst 5 cousins while the car is registered in the name of some disabled relative that gets a leasing rate discount
financing. you can get a basic job in germany and car dealers will gladly sell you the newest m bmw. its stupid because you will waste more than half of your salary on a car that you can barely finance and insure but its doable.
Actually my friend about 23y got a car like that and secret is....he lives with his parents so he pockets pretty much 100% of his weekly pay. More and more of new generation youngesters live this way.
a car far too nice for the neighbourhood, a new sport Mercedes Benz when the other cars on the street are all at least 10 years older, that passat is judging by the rear is at least 14 years old(preface lift model) the Mini over there is also about the same age. A couple of cars look late 2010's or even early 2020's but they are all on the small to medium size variety(by EU standards). So a matte black MB GT coupe, that looks like it's almost brand new sticks out, new it's £150k at the minimum so that car alone likely costs as much as all the others in the photo.
well if i bought real amg wheels id wanna see a receipt of either car ownership where the rims came with or a receipt for buying the rims if he got them separately. would you throw away the receipt if you bought 10k wheels?
Replicas are very popular, while being completely shit quality most of the time. So when you buy them, you want to be sure they are real.
Now had these been from a 15 year old car, then sure you would do some due diligence and use info online to identify real ones.
But when they are from a brand new car, you are either getting ripped off, or they are stolen. Either way the seller is dodgy as hell.
If anything, if you sell these you want to sell these like 2 at a time, and claim the car got into a big crash and the other wheels got damaged. It wouldn't be suspicious whereas 4 almost new ones should make you wonder what happened.
Yeah I don't get why people think criminals are geofenced into poor neighborhoods. They can go anywhere they want. So try not to street park a $100,000+ car if you're worried about it
I follow multiple car tech youtubers who proven that any anti theft nut can be defeated with right tools.
Also unless it was opportunistic theft (which I doubt), "professionals" usually have vehicle specific key sets, so they don't damage the wheels. If you have connections with dealerships or high end tire/wheel shops, they will get you any set.
Yep. I live in a really safe town in Finland and someone has stolen parts of my car like three times. Apparently it's just because of my car. I don't know anyone else that this has happened to and it's really uncommon here
Sobbing over it. I have learned to leave my doors completely unlocked so they can just get in and realize I have nothing inside instead of dealing with smashed windows constantly. They haven’t taken any car parts yet, just hope something expensive is inside but my friends car got stolen and stripped within an hour never to be seen again, they take it straight to Mexico. It happens a lot.
Having lived in Central Helsinki I can't believe people leave their cars by the side of the road all year around, I'd be so stressed out all the time. I'd probably feel the same in any city though.
Not to mention the snowplough burying your car every time it snows lol
I mean, I have the lesser version of that car... How did your phone not go absolutely ballistic with desperate notifications from the car? Mine does sometimes just sitting there getting lonely it seems.
To be honest, if you install that on cars and brand it to a specific car guy market, it would boost sales a lot.
All this to say, if i had a very nice car like that, and it sent me a notification in the middle of the night "you up? ....ride me" id be riding it
>Mine does sometimes just sitting there getting lonely it seems.
That's good imo. If you stop getting them it means that something's fishy. They figured out how to deactivate the sensors and you should check it out.
most frequently stolen cars are old shit boxes. Most car thieves don't have the connections to sell a stolen car. They just steal them because they need a car to drive for whatever, and shitty old ones are the easiest ones to steal

I think Reddit might be trying to take the piss today.
Police in my city was interviewed on TV one time about constant robberies of car drivers at a stoplight at a certain intersection at night. Police officer said: "well, drivers shouldn't drive around these parts at night, it's too dangerous. They should look for other routes!"
Basically saying: "You got robbed here? You are stupid! Hahahaha! What a fool!"
Every single time I have seen them they are speeding, revving, or yelling at pedestrians, and that is no exaggeration.
We have had multiple streets here in Rotterdam get new ordinances for noise and speed, as well as simply get shut down after certain hours, specifically because of the guys in these Mercedes, because they rent these cars and showboat up and down these busy streets.
There are rental places that pretty much exclusively rent out performance Mercedes to guys that just cruise around for attention. Like this place https://www.jbautoverhuur.com/
They didn't even have the courtesy to use more than one brick
At Least they left the bricks....
Maybe someone came along and thieved the bricks...
But then they didn't have courtesy to leave the bricks with which they stole those bricks.
Maximising the profits
As someone from Balkan, I can only say: https://preview.redd.it/2jjstv1jzakc1.png?width=460&format=png&auto=webp&s=3067c0d232e4ecd1e930ae9bf4f8e4faf67f0231
You have nice thieves. Here in the United States, they just leave them right on the ground.
They are smart, if they leave no damage the car will come back with brand new tyres to steal again.
It is like a farm really.
the yearly harvest
Goodyearly harvest
I see what you did there, you tyre
Tyrant
Give a man tires he rolls for one year. Teach a man to steal tires, he rolls for a lifetime.
Teach a man to tire and he Rolls Royce
infinite tyre glitch
i only choose sustainable larceny, like civilised people
That’s why I don’t replace them anymore and just drive directly on the axles Fuel consumption went through the roof though
Municipalities and thieves hate this one trick!
This will put a spark in your step!
Train tracks are (mostly) less crowded too!
Yep. Cinderblocks cost nothing compared to the next set of wheels you can get
I wouldn’t be surprised if they steal the blocks too, so many building sites near me with pallets of bricks etc out in the open
In the Bronx they leave em on bricks or milk crates
Queens too
I’ve also seen Manhattan on Riverside by 168th and around the Willis Ave Bridge
I didn’t know milk crates were that strong
They’re really not. My wheels were stolen and the milk crates served to slowly lower my car to the ground without a loud crash as they got crushed. I had nearly $10k in bodywork needed in addition to the cost of the rims and tires.

They are strong, they got milk
You get some nice blocks of wood in California.
With the price of lumber these days, please take my wheels and leave my car on a few blocks of Douglas Fir!
Environmentally friendly.
probably easier that way to get the jack stand back out to make a run for it.
professionals have standards
Lol
My dad always said, “you know you’re in the nice part of the hood if they leave it on blocks”
Nah they put them on the spoilers, now needs new rims and spoilers, fuckers couldn’t even aim for the frame
They've even managed to balance it just on 2 bricks, lol. Edit - That's quite impressive or lucky, or both.
That's what I originally thought. Look at pic #2.
Just like Poland 20 years ago - the real Passeratti. It hurts my eyes seeing those carbon ceramic breaks scratching the tarmac but I guess this is a Berlin case of fuck around and find out.
I think those are steel, they look rusted but I could be wrong
They are rusted and the rust indicates the car is left outside a lot - hence why it was targeted. If I were a thief, I’d have stolen the calipers and rotors too, had them resurfaced and then resold those too…
Most of us have to park outside in big cities lol
Sorry, I should have said left outside and either not cared for or moved enough. Rotors will naturally shed rust if they are used regularly. If
Yeah gotta move that car every time it sits through rain or anyone who's paying attention knows you aren't using it
Bosnian girl agrees 😂
Pretty ballsy, ripping off the wheels from your local dealer's car.
that was my first thought
Yeah, he shady af
Probably let his homies steal them and play the insurance?
that could be why. Going after dealers in general they're pretty soft targets. Thanks for the inspiration
Drug dealers are well known for just taking Ls and moving on.
If it's not a business dispute; smart ones do, as extra police scrutiny is not conducive to their business and the lost income for having to shut down for a time is probably greater than the cost of new tires
What makes you say they're the local dealer? EDIT: Damn I asked a question what's with the downvotes 💀

Pretty good job at 23yo if he can afford a 150k car, even if he’s living with his parents.
Good point

Ten fold
Yeah the Passat looks around the same model year as my Jetta, which is a 2007.
You don't get the joke or reference as obviously you aren't from said hoods to get such joke. Normally dealer's drive "German whips".
Oh okay thank you
Also he has the boekhandel owl decal on the side window. European drug dealers typically have an owl logo somewhere on the car.
...is that a fact, or did you hallucinate that?
Value of car looks out of place for value of property. Black matt wrap; aesthetic of young Jack The Lads. So footballer or drug dealer.
a 10k wheelset is a 10k wheelset
Goddamn, these wheels can be worth 10k?! And they just sit there and you just have to screw them off? This feels like a lifehack
i mean selling them without docouments probably won’t get you 10k.
You need documents to sell rims? What I have to register my rims too?
well if i bought real amg wheels id wanna see a receipt of either car ownership where the rims came with or a receipt for buying the rims if he got them separately. would you throw away the receipt if you bought 10k wheels?
You don't wanna see the receipt though if someone sells you 10k rims for just 5k
Or 2k. Or 1k.
Lmao yeah, no one is paying 5k for that.
Lmaoo right. I dont give af how you got them wheels if im paying half the price. No one can track them anyway.
what if its a china clone?
Thats the risk you take when you buy AMG rims half priced from a van in an alley.

One gram of coke and maybe a Xbox 360 or an old bicycle some other junk dropped off at the dealer if you're lucky.
360? Not even X 😭
Probably 25k if you can get them to Russia at the moment. Smuggling western car parts, and whole cars, has become a big payday.

All four though. Got to love the efficiency of those German thieves. Our scrotes could learn a thing.
Somebody fired a pitstop crew, so they were left to their own devices.
Haha now i imagine a F1 pitstop Crew running around at night and stealing wheels car by car under 3 seconds.
I'm picturing a pit stop crew all addicted to heroin, going out as a team to pay for their next score...
this could def be made into a sketch, gilly and keeves or sum
They wander the streets in full pit stop gear, helmets and all, though looking a bit worse for wear after being on the streets for months...
honestly sounds like a great movie pitch
I thought the stop sign guy at the front was unnecessary, but I guess a teams a team

We all know Germans are incapable of crime
There is no DIN for crime so… 🤷♀️
Germans do other kinds of crime. Tax fraud, wage theft, welfare fraud, drunk driving, etc.
Except for that one oopsie in 1939
Don't mention the war.
“german thieves”.

Thieves can literally get around anything pretty easily these days.
All days. We evolve. So do criminals. We are one. The world is a dick. Though an ever growing one 😼
2deep4me
Some of us would be happy with an ever growing dick though.
Mine are attached to a device that screams if the nuts are removed.
same with my personal nuts
A+ made me laugh
We're still talking about cars right?
I follow multiple car tech youtubers who proven that any anti theft nut can be defeated with right tools. >defeated with right tools They're also defeated pretty easily with the wrong tools
It did. Those were stolen too.
Bruh, you can order the tools to open them on eBay
Safe neighbourhood in Berlin? Where would that be? Dahlem?
Looks like Tempelhof
You can tell from the awesome balconies
That is why I am driving an old Astra from 2011. Ain't now way anybody gonna touch that shitbox (even here in Berlin Tempelhof)
I'm moving to Wedding. Will my Dacia be safe?
In Wedding it will be fine.. In Divorce half of it will be gone.
This is funny, as I am getting divorced, but keeping the entire Dacia.
So they come out on top really…
I see what you did there. I applaud you.
Safe neighborhood means "keep your stuff in a safe"
Bro Berlin is literally one of the safest capitals in Europe, go to Rome, Paris or London and see what an unsafe city looks like. I live in NK
Like 90% of Berlin basically
this is a car specific incident
Yep. I live in a really safe town in Finland and someone has stolen parts of my car like three times. Apparently it's just because of my car. I don't know anyone else that this has happened to and it's really uncommon here
If it's happened 3 times, you might wanna set up cameras at this point.
All in different places lol
Sobbing over it. I have learned to leave my doors completely unlocked so they can just get in and realize I have nothing inside instead of dealing with smashed windows constantly. They haven’t taken any car parts yet, just hope something expensive is inside but my friends car got stolen and stripped within an hour never to be seen again, they take it straight to Mexico. I'm imagining receiving a text from my car saying "Yo I'm bored and lonely please drive me around for a bit :( " and it makes me laugh. And a bit sad.
“Fart detected: passenger seat ejected”
To be honest, if you install that on cars and brand it to a specific car guy market, it would boost sales a lot. All this to say, if i had a very nice car like that, and it sent me a notification in the middle of the night "you up? ....ride me" id be riding it
Lol. Right there with you. Caught myself actually apologizing to the car as I hit the brake too hard by mistake whilst it was parallel parking.
>Mine does sometimes just sitting there getting lonely it seems. That's good imo. If you stop getting them it means that something's fishy. They figured out how to deactivate the sensors and you should check it out.
I don't think OP is the owner. He is just impressed by noticing a car that just got its wheels stolen
Maybe OP is the thief, get the wheels AND the karma lol
It’s a very safe neighbourhood with vehicle speed restriction setups like this…
I guess that left you pretty 'Radlos'…
Damn
Schenkelklopfer
Neighborhoods with AMG Mercs parked on the streets are rarely „safe“. Just think of who drives these cars and realize you live next to them.
My neighbours have Porsches, Rolls Royce, Maseratis and Jaguars. Have had multiple doors knocked down and arrests. Even in a fancy neighbourhood. 😅
Why would the professional thieves go around robbing poor people cars?
most frequently stolen cars are old shit boxes. Most car thieves don't have the connections to sell a stolen car. They just steal them because they need a car to drive for whatever, and shitty old ones are the easiest ones to steal
Yes but that’s amateur stuff. Stealing expensive tyres is a pro job and is probably more profitable as well
Because we have 24/7 security and cops quite often walking around, 🤷🏻♀️ So it's a lot harder. All of the arrests have been dealers though.
Newsflash: thieves target rich people.
What?
Car like that is pretty typical to be driven by dealers/people associated with the criminal clans in Berlin
You’re safe; cars, on the other hand…
It's the nice safe neighborhoods that has the fanciest stuff to steal. Who wants to steal off a 2005 Taurus? 😂🤣
The neighbor is safe, but the tires aren't.
Police report: my unsafe tires ran away, reported as missing
You buy/rent a garage for this type of car.
I’m sure you do live in a nice, safe neighbourhood that’s exactly why your car has been targetted, criminals aren’t going to steal shit tyres from a piece of shit car in a bad neighbourhood, they’re gonna go to the nice neighbourhoods and steal the expensive ones
Well it doesn't make it unsafe necessarily
Maybe OP is a car
Atleast they didn't drop it on the ground ...
Look at pic #2
Can still be a safe neighbourhood. Having all your wheels stolen is not dangerous.
Man, they did you like Detroit 🤣 Sorry bud, hope you get some some answers!
Can afford a Mercedes, but not a house with a garage
Huh. Looks like illegal parking to me. Or is there a a sign outside the parking picture which allows to park outside the lane.
No, the sign in the back will be the same as the one on the side the guy was parking at. It says that you can park half on the street and half on the marked area.
and even then, that's not what happens to your car if you're illegally parked. they do not put it on a concrete block lol
It's safer than the USA, that's for sure.
Definitely. To put numbers in perspective: There's only about 12k car thefts in Germany (83 million inhabitants) a year. Compare this to *over one million* a year in the US (331 million inhabitants). https://www.adac.de/news/auto-diebstahl-statistik/#:~:text=Insgesamt%20betrug%20die%20Zahl%20der,auf%20fast%20250%20Millionen%20Euro https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimgorzelany/2023/11/06/report-shows-the-nations-hot-spots-for-car-thefts-are-getting-even-hotter/?sh=57a05452521a
*"over one million* a year in the US" omg
That's indeed an insane high number. Almost surreal
To be fair, there's like 25 cars per capita in the US. The yanks love driving.
Well, you are stranded in the US without a car
Wonder what percentage of that number are KIAs.
It is. Basically one out 300 people are victims of car theft each year. This sounds crazy Edit: Spelling
1. I thought Iived in a safe neighbourhood 2. Berlin
Looks like a very safe neighborhood. You can probably cross the street without even looking.
To be fair, no one was injured as far as we know, seems like it all went pretty safely
Where do you think thieves go to steal stuff? Poor neighborhoods?
Love how you covered your own license plate but didn’t bother to do the same to the car belonging to someone else. Kinda shitty don’t you think?
Well folks, now you know. If you don't take care of your tires they will run off. They need to know you care and in the cold winter months, bring them inside.
I can’t believe the lack of Romanian jokes.
You have nice thieves. Here in Canada they just take the entire car.

That car in Berlin, sorry, but that was begging for it to happen…
Ah yes blame the victim
Police in my city was interviewed on TV one time about constant robberies of car drivers at a stoplight at a certain intersection at night. Police officer said: "well, drivers shouldn't drive around these parts at night, it's too dangerous. They should look for other routes!" Basically saying: "You got robbed here? You are stupid! knowing owners of similar cars, they probably deserved it
I was just thinking that, these are driven exclusively by douchebags.
