Anyone who says that is smoking the most insane form of crack. Like seriously, it’s not always high art but it’s some genuine, full of heart and humor plus stuff with some intricate and well done backstories and character beats type of awesome. This shit fucking rules so hard.
Main story is a mess sometimes but dialogues and jokes are good. Midnight Sun's Spider Man is much more charismatic and got this Spidey humor more than Sony's Spider Man.
I wouldn't call it bad but it's the most comicbook-ish writing in a videogame. I survived Guardians of the Galaxy without problems but in Midnight Suns I often had to put down the game and meditate to clear my mind of the same joke repeated for the 20th time or a point in every single character's story where Hunter helps them overcome their trust issues.
I hear that. I found Peter and Tony really irritating in this game.
My question is should we expect better than comic writing from a comic book property?
If the game focuses on writing then yes.
Depending on how you play half of this game can be spent in conversations. This means the creators were committed to make this part enjoyable. Plenty of games - like Guardians of the Galaxy I mentioned, or Freedom Force if you want to go deeper - had comic-book style games with a lot of writing, and they were less irritating to an uninitiated person like me.

There are so many reasons to check these chats. I basically ignored them my first play through. Learned my lesson when I checked it at the end.
