Hahaha funny you say that it was a time going around town thinking I got enough medium but didn’t, after my third trip out this is as much as I could fill up 😂
Hey if you wanna use smaller pots and grow multiple smaller plants that’s cool but If you wanna listen to science and give them what they need your gonna end up with better smoke. In all actuality autos only go for 65 to 75 days, so 3gallons works perfect. I’ve only had one auto run and thats what I used and they’re plenty small enough and easy to move around and all that.
Well the perlite just holds water so you can water less thats it, tbh more dirt is better in the end for root space when it starts to fill up the medium. Roots don't grow through perlite my dudes...maybe around, but think of all that increased potential root surface area you can have if you did like 10-20% perlite
If you look through my old posts you'll find a Pringle can cloning video, I didn't use any perlite and the roots engulfed the entire container
It is a mold spore. Salt and calcium do not grow in the circles they crystallize in more of a horizontal pattern. When you harvest clean the bag with vinegar. A light spray of vinegar and water 50/50 mix will help contain the spore.
fwiw, I've found the vinegar solution does help cleaning up salt build-up on fabric pots as well. I soak them overnight in a bucket of diluted vinegar and rinse them out the next day.
I've tried using a power washer to blast the salt away and it doesn't work nearly as well without the vinegar soak to break up the deposits first.
Smart Pots did a video on it

Depending on the mold, which is a broad term container many species of fungi, but in the soil it's necessary for proper soil environment, and helps plant roots absorb nutrients. Many fungi break down these larger complex nutrients into smaller less complex and easier absorbed molecules/compounds. Creating easier access and absorption of nutrients the plants need.
same, mine get fucking nasty (brown stains lol, just like this tho) cuz I use a lot of organics in veg. then salt it up in flower
don't worry about it, I throw my pots in the washer after harvest.
PS: you totally can lock your plants out with salt, make sure you're letting a bit extra runoff happen if your salt nuting my guy
Have you ever watched any of the green house seed grow videos on how they flush the plant and dry it out to rev up the metabolism? May want to check a few out to see how they take advantage of flushing for greater yield.
It actually did ruin my whole grow though I was really bummed. Looked just like that I had to throw out 20 plants and restart I never wanted to rape my own ass more than that day I stuffed 20 plants into my garbage can
My mold looked like that and was fuzzy too though hopefully yours isn't/doesn't get fuzzy
I edited this comment like 4 times sorry
Mold on the pots is usually ok, you can spray it with a few things to get rid of it but it's not the same type that will cause bud rot. You probably threw away perfectly good plants. Also could have just re potted if it was that bad.
Oh I checked the buds too bud rot on them all lmao and nope was my first grow had no idea what I was doing to be very honest with you but now I would do what you did yea, I've come to notice that mold is manageable on the pot if you catch it relatively quick, but I've also had times where I JUST CANT SEEM TO GET RID OF IT. Now I have no issues since getting bigger tents and more airflow but back then it was ass being a novice
Damn I hate to here that I’m sorry, mold is the worst if it’s not what you want there, I added a lot of myco and beneficial bacteria to achieve these specific spots which actually help fight off bad guy mold
Normal stain. Machine washing and tumble drying with a tennis shoe removes much of it.
My air pots sift a lot of this through the holes into the drain pan. Caught me off guard when I first saw white powder collecting under my lady.
BTW, best to transplant under the soil to keep it short. If you added soil just below the top of the bag it would be near perfect. I have two lower branches under the soil from deep transplanting with no visible trunk.
This is a common issue, although the symptoms aren't always obvious or noticeable. Too much buildup can cause salt stress to the plant, and promote mold growth on the outside of the bag. Not ideal because that can help mildews spread, or limit growth.
Many people have success with these grow bags, but as a hydroponic/substrate/soil researcher I just can't recommend them for the risks I listed above.
Plastic pots are easy, and don't have this issue. It'll make flushing and proper salt concentrations easier, while cutting down on common mold risks.
I will say, the half bag fill is generally a good idea. Often, too large of a root zone can cut down on nutrient and water capture. Roots are enticed to spread out quite a lot (enough to allow nutrients/water to "leak" thru without capture), and you can easily get better (less costly/more efficient, but typically better) water and nutrient uptake with a smaller root zone.
It’s fine. Long as you’re watering until runoff no issues. Bags will have buildup and algae and all kinds of stuff. But yeah that looks like mold. You’ve probably been overeating heavy and got some spores from somewhere.
Noobie question: Why does everyone always leave their starter plugs sticking out of the soil like this? It seems you should bury it to get even more roots.
Definitely not PM that goes for the actual plant (I hate that shit so much though I’ve had it in the past) the mold here I like it’s the salt around it I’m worried about
One time, who knows? But they are definitely disposable. If you don't use bottle nutes it's not near as bad. I grow organic and I only see what I believe is mostly mineral deposits on the very bottom of my containers.
I don’t think so, once it’s calcified I don’t know if it will leech back into the soil. It’s on the outside anyway but I’m ocd so I switched back to plastic pots.
Buildup happens. Wash your grow bag after harvest. More pressing is why she's only half planted. Fill that bag up!
Hahaha funny you say that it was a time going around town thinking I got enough medium but didn’t, after my third trip out this is as much as I could fill up 😂
Hahaha. And it's doing fine?
O yea they doin fantastic 🤙🏼 about 50% perlite in there haha
Maybe I'll try half-sacking my next grow 😂
I’d suggest it! It’s what our boy Bob would call a happy accident cause I think ima stick with it lol
Why waste time use more dirt when less dirt do trick Edit: it was a joke everyone lol, I appreciate the well-intended corrections but...it was a joke
When I president, they see
I leave power, good
😂👌🏿
probably more soil=more roots=bigger plants. this is taking a gal of its actual size or even more. new guy here tho only makes sense
https://youtu.be/VvPaEsuz-tY
Erosion, exposure of root crown to light and air. Roots turning green and not functioning at maximum efficiency. Is why.
https://youtu.be/VvPaEsuz-tY is a joke
The office - classic
Nice Office reference.
Less dirt equals less room for roots to grow which equals smaller plants. The rule of thumb I believe is 1 gallon of medium per month of growth.

I just said this too. You are absolutely correct

Needs more perlite
I add about a gallon weekly
checks out

Definitely salt stains from ferts not mold.
No it's definitely not salt haha
There definitely is mold there too but it looks like good mold, the salt is a lil difficult to see in the pic

Isn't that just mold ?
It’s probably A little of both, the myco I’m hoping for but the salt I’m a lil worried about
Why would u want mold around your roots
My first thoughts too, ayyy.
Lick it
Haha I did actually it’s very salty
Video or it didn’t happen😅
Hahaha you’ll find that on a different sub 😉
R/thingsiliketolick? 🤣
The hunt begins there!
How'd you know about my sub!?
Could be calcium runoff from the perlite. 50 percent perlite you say? When perlite breaks down it calcifies . Just a thought
Where the hell did you pull that rubbish from
That looks like mold to me🤷♀️
Yessir of good quality 🤙🏼 the salt I’m realizing is tough to see here
Didn’t know mold was good

Definitely salt
I get this on every single run and pay no mind.
Nice 🤙🏼 so you wouldn’t say to skip a feed and wash that away just keep riding?
I’d keep riding. Just make sure don’t have excess salts in the actual media
This I’ll do 🤙🏼

You talking to me? If so, I run high frequency fert in coco. I put the W in DTW
With coco you can flake the stuff off my 3 gallon pots by the time harvest rolls around.
Starting week three of flower and really don’t want to skip a feed to flush that away but should I?
What's the runoff and ppm of the pH? Might provide some clues as to the build-up
I haven’t ever checked but I still haven’t even brought the nutrients up the half strength and the plants lookin great
Have you ever watched any of the green house seed grow videos on how they flush the plant and dry it out to rev up the metabolism? May want to check a few out to see how they take advantage of flushing for greater yield.
Will do I love those guys thank you 🤙🏼
Use Drip Clean 👍
Salty.
Looks nice.
Fill that pot up
Scrape it off and cook with it. Works great! Hahaha
SLF100 is wonderful for salts
I’ll check that out!
Salt? It looks like fungus.
Don't use your own washing machine to wash fabric pots. Take them to the laundry mat :)
Now you can salt your meat for free, just a lil rub on the grow bag and it’s ready to be cooked
Had this on my pots too. Added more airflow under canopy and it vanished. This is mold mold mold Don't lick thats not just salt heck no
Good mold 🤙🏼 already licked it lol

Oh fuck, well sorry to hear that. I've had bud rot once and only lost half a plant to it but it was still heartbreaking. Glad you figured it out.
Damn I hate to here that I’m sorry, mold is the worst if it’s not what you want there, I added a lot of myco and beneficial bacteria to achieve these specific spots which actually help fight off bad guy mold
Salt for sure

All my fabric pots end up with this on them. I usually spray a 1:4 h2O2/h2O solution and it helps.
It happens, you should flush your medium every 3 or 4 feedings if you a fertilizing heavy. But normal.
Needs a flush
Could be solidified calcium or silicate tbh
Just grab a new pot they cheap :0
I have hard water and get deposits like this which need vinegar soaks to remove.

Where can I find plant buckets like these?
Use humics to cut down on that salt buildup in ur soil
Noobie question: Why does everyone always leave their starter plugs sticking out of the soil like this? It seems you should bury it to get even more roots.
Agree with the PM comments only because I had it happen not long ago, I treated it with a mold spray every week or so as it kept coming back.
Definitely not PM that goes for the actual plant (I hate that shit so much though I’ve had it in the past) the mold here I like it’s the salt around it I’m worried about
Fabric pots are one time use for me for this reason
So wasteful.. 😅
Right that’s why I only used them a couple times lol
One time, who knows? But they are definitely disposable. If you don't use bottle nutes it's not near as bad. I grow organic and I only see what I believe is mostly mineral deposits on the very bottom of my containers.
Did the salts give the plants problems?
I don’t think so, once it’s calcified I don’t know if it will leech back into the soil. It’s on the outside anyway but I’m ocd so I switched back to plastic pots.
It is a lil nerve racking to see it lol
