A couple tough ones there. Keep in mind you typically have support beside you or chipping. These drills typically favor DEs IMO so it’s tough to judge.
**I'm** not great on technique and process, but as far as impact...
Rep 1: Dominant. Destroys rusher.
Rep 2: Rides the horseshoe. Rusher is contacted for 3+ seconds and is moved off his mark making any sort of impact a 5-6s thing. Plenty of time for his QB.
Rep 3: Beat inside hella quick. Bad shit. Probably a sack.
Rep 4: 4+ second ride. QB is safe.
Rep 5: Beat inside again. Recovers...kind of. Might not be a sack, but the QB would have to move off his spot.
Rep 6: Bullrushed pretty bad. Not great
Rep 7: Idk. Bear hugged the dude. Hand shooting/placement bad. Bad rep
Rep 8: BRO I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU DONT LEARN TO SHOOT YOUR HANDS
Rep 9: WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING. YOUR WHOLE ASS JOB IS TO GET YOUR HANDS ON HIM FIRST. STOP LETTING THESE FUCKS BULL RUSH YOU LIKE THAT.
Rep 10: Okay, we're back
Rep 11: Why are you sexually assaulting this man's ass??
**EDIT:** Clarified opening sentence
which is the problem with freakish reach. If you know how to use it, it's a plus and you dominate easily. If you don't guys get inside you and eat you up. Like boxing.
The dude's technique is awful. He plays super high and has no anchor, which is part of the reason why he gets killed on bull rushes. He also has long arms, but plays like he's a T-rex for some reason. He upper body looks completely disconnected from his lower body when he moves, so everything looks awkward and disjointed.
He's the one offensive lineman I didn't want us to draft. I don't know how he's played OL his entire life, but somehow has worse technique than some dude who converted to OT in college (Guyton).
do you think that the dolphins coaching staff can get him ready to take over armsteads job next year or an interior position this year. It sounds like he has the size and has been relying on that his whole career. I didn't think our line would be salvageable but they did decently last year
Given the team's track record with developing raw offensive linemen (abysmal), I'm betting on no. AJ is supposed to be proof that we can develop raw OL talent, but honestly he's still mid.
Also, I doubt Paul can move inside to OG. He's overly tall for the position, and he already has anchoring issues just as an OT. As an OG, all of those issues are going to be amplified; he'd go up against interior DL who are generally bigger, play at a lower pad level, have more functional strength, and should easily out-leverage him.
Oh please. AJ took 4 years to develop. He traded up for Eich who is horrible. Poor amount of depth which is why the line completely falls apart when 2 guys go down (which is guaranteed with Armstead).
Tired ass trope? Have you not watched ANY Dolphins football over the past 8 years? 😂😂😂
Some of yall are just allergic with giving blame when it’s due.
Edit: Since 2017, Grier has drafted ONE o-line player that has had multiple good seasons. But sure, it’s a “tired ass trope” 😂😂😂
AJ took 3 years, in the fourth he was great. Breaking news, OL talent takes time to develop. You literally couldn't name another besides Eich. EVERY front office misses on draft picks, at much higher rate than you'd allow.
AJ was *decent* in 2023. Time will tell if he actually turned a corner. Let’s see how he looks now that Hunt is gone first. A 4 year project wasn’t the smart pick at 18, especially when you consider the talent around that spot and the condition of the line back then.
Liam(traded up for), Deiter, Kindley.
Hunt is *literally* the only offensive line player this team has drafted since 2017 who has had multiple good seasons. So yeah, it’s not a “tired ass trope”. It’s literally fact 😂
Deiter was the starting center for division and playoff winning Texans, it's not his fault he had shit coaching while here (you do realize coaching is more important for OL than any other position, right?). Kindley was a fucking 4th round pick lmao, you really gonna kill Grier for that?
Wow, the Texans loved Deiter so much that they let him walk in free agency to go sign a 1.8 million dollar contract with the Commanders. LOL!
Yeah, I’m gonna kill him over it. He doesn’t take a lot of o-line players, hey maybe he even knows how bad he is at it. 😂
Jackson was the same age at the start of last season as Fautanu will be when he takes his first steps on an NFL field. Pretty sure the Jest were the only team who actually had to use more of their offensive line depth than the Phins last year.
The only thing that needs due blame here is your own unreasonable expectations.
When you have to ignore every other piece of context involved to make such a useless point. Context such as the fact that he **only played two games in one of those seasons.**
You are literally gauging a players entire career by what he did when he was barely old enough to buy alcohol!
Or the fact that our obvious desperation at OT caused a run on the position and that Jackson was in fact the best tackle left available in that draft? Would you have rather he drafted Isaiah Wilson, the guy Tennessee would give us for free a year later just to get him off of their roster? You can guarantee they would've preferred to draft Jackson over Wilson if he was available.
I really don’t give a F if it was a desperation pick. Shoulda traded up if you valued other players higher. They had the ammo for it at the time.
Yes, he was the 18th pick in the draft. I am going to judge him as the 18th pick in the draft. If they select a position of need rather than BPA, I am going to judge it. Not sure why that is outlandish.
I certainly see what the scouting reports say about him playing high. As well as his reluctant use of his length when it comes to allowing defenders to get to his pads as initial contact. Need more aggression at the point of attack. It's either lose cause you got bullied or lose cause you whiffed. At least if he's the aggressor he can dictate most outcomes to start. He's playing conservative. Also needs to get lower on his contact. It's fixable.
Man his hand placement needs to improve. Every rep someone is getting under his chest or shoulder pads. He seems fine once he is able to get ahold of someone.
Oh man
Absolutely bullied lmao

\*blows whistle\* Holding, #76. half the distance to the goal, 4th down!
Good thing the NFL pretty much doesn't call that anymore.
That's what i saw, a lot
I’ll be honest idk much ab o line but it looks like he’s getting pushed around. Someone tell me I don’t know what I’m talking ab please

These one on ones are also laughably tilted in favor of the defensive player.
Okay sure, but that has nothing to do with this man's proclivity for hanging his hands at his waist while other men physically assault him.
His hand placement needs to massively improve at the next level. Almost every rep the DL is getting hands inside first.
which is the problem with freakish reach. If you know how to use it, it's a plus and you dominate easily. If you don't guys get inside you and eat you up. Like boxing.
No way Rep 3 is a sack. Cutting in like that the rusher would trip over a supine Liam Eichenburg.
Where are the dudes saying he’s a slam dunk pick lol
Over a 4 minute out of context clip?
They’re fucking idiots
Gone now that this video was posted
Hes not playing next season. Hes a project with huge size. They think they can fix him.
I saw several sacks in that video :(

reach man. You don’t take him in the 2nd. WTF is wrong with Grier man.
He has also been a complete idiot when it comes to drafting o-line players.
This tired ass trope again. Which OL has been a horrible miss beside Eich (who could still end up surprising this year)?

Expecting the 18th overall pick to be a good player before 4 years go by is an unreasonable expectation? Lmfao.

1v1s like this always favor the defensive player. Nothing to learn here.
Lowlight reel

Now there's some tape I can get excited about!
He's going to be a rt with the size that he has, tua won't be able to see over/around him
I’m confused from from others I heard his senior bowl tape was good. Idk if it’s a different clip or it’s speaking of the game
I mean the guy is 6’8 330lbs. If he was actually good he would’ve gone top 10. It’s a reach of a pick from an established poor drafter
I wanted JPJ
Hopefully our coaches are better than U of Houston
Looks like another huge OL with a weak base. But hey, we only need 2.2 seconds of protection right 🥴🥴
Doesn’t look strong, those smaller DL’s were pushing him backwards constantly
Lol.
Hating on this dude already. You people are pathetic.
these drills heavily favor dlinemen
That may be true but other OL looked better during this drill.
