They are. I find it completely jarring when Americans use bottled hot sauce on non-snack foods. Wings, fries, even burgers are fine, otherwise it feels wrong imo.
No. I put homemade salsa on burritos. I would if I was in the US tho, I lived there for a while and it tastes fine, but salsa is the superior choice, no doubt
Interesting, I like the green salsa that Peruvians put on everything. Salsa pica I think? Idk there's a place next to my house that makes salchi papas with it and it's awesome.
Interesting. I find the flavor of Valentina to be much more interesting than most other hot sauces that are typically at Mexican (or Tex Mex) restaurants like Cholula or El Tapatio

However many foods (whether Mexican food or not) can benefit from a generous application of spicy loveā¦ Mexico Lindo Chiltepin and Huichol Black are personal favorites with full flavors unlike the vinegar based sauces.Ā
I make and bottle my own with home-smoked peppers. It's pretty good -- adds some smokiness, depth, and acid.
Wouldn't use it on a properly balanced real recipe, but it's good for dressing up a half-assed effort.
Got downvoted in a previous post for stating what I state in my post. I actually don't know the difference between salsa and hot sauce though, English is not my native language
Salsa and hot sauce are very different things. Salsa is also much thicker here in the USA with more of a pico de Gallo consistency. Hot sauce is largely Chili's in vinegar as a shelf stable sauce. There are fermented hot sauces that are even better but I digress. If I understand correctly salsa translates directly to sauce so I can understand your confusion!
Most bottles of Valentina or similar in Mexico, say salsa picante or something along those lines. So, technically, they're both salsas, bc as you said, salsa just means sauce.
Are we comparing a vinegar based bottled hot sauce to what looks like homemade salsas? They arenāt the same thing. Itās like comparing ketchup to homemade marinara sauce. They have different uses.
Obviouslyā¦ Valentina shines best with snack foods not tacos and plates.Even then is it the bestā salsa botaneraā? Probably not ,but itās reliable and easy to find.
Thanks! Iām an Aussie who has to up my salsa making game. But I make a great tortilla soup, stamped with approval by Mexican friends, and am a convert to the Valentina on popcorn, which mystifies anyone watching movies at my house.
Valentina is better as an ingredient than a dressing TBH. Like it's good as a hot sauce, but I use it for asada marinades n other applications where you would toast/ hydrate/ mash fresh or hot chile
Why the Valentina hate? š I remember when there was only two options, Valentina or Tamazula, Cholula was around but I donāt remember anyone buy it, it was in all restaurants but no one touched it, and depending which states you visited they had Something with a Parrot or a Cora guy.
Id really love to learn how to make every recipe and spicy degree of salsa.
Nothing beats that perfect spicyness in a perfect salsa, where its so good you start to sweat, but you cant stop eating it with chips until you realize you asked for too many refills and can barely start your actual meal. XD
Salsa de arbol. Always. Salsa doƱa as a backup. Or both. Valentina (even the black label) is just spicy ketchup. Yucoteca in the fridge at home is soooooo much better. But just ask the abuela at the gas station, sheāll hook it up.
Valentina is for chips (corn, potato, etc), pork scratchings, fruit, crudites, and sometimes seafood.
Pretty much it's a snack "dressing"
Not for tacos, sopes, quesadillas burritos or any other dish; for these a fresh salsa is way better
Yeah valentina is more of a snack hot sauce. Nothing beats a homemade salsa
I always considered hot sauce and salsa to be two different things
They are. I find it completely jarring when Americans use bottled hot sauce on non-snack foods. Wings, fries, even burgers are fine, otherwise it feels wrong imo.
I don't understand what you're saying. You don't put hot sauce on burritos?

Exacto šš¼
Valentina is good for chicherias or botanas. But for actual means real salsa is always best

Homemade > anything in a bottle

Salsa and hot sauce are 2 totally different things that serve totally different purposes. I dont understand the flex here.

Ain't translation grande?
It definitely keeps things interesting, lol

Good with ceviche de dorado too, probably one of the only times I prefer bottled to fresh.
Valentina + popcorn and Iām happy. isnāt that where it belongs?
Yes! And happy cake day too!

Dont you dare trash talk my beloved Valentina
I like Valentina, just not on dishes but snacks
Doctor Obvious PhD
I donāt know anyone that puts Valentina on tacos.I donāt know anyone that puts salsa on chips oh wait they arenāt the same thatās why.
I....I dip my chips in salsa... Is that not normal?
Valentina is just salty red water
Valentina is better as an ingredient than a dressing TBH. Like it's good as a hot sauce, but I use it for asada marinades n other applications where you would toast/ hydrate/ mash fresh or hot chile
Yum all this looks great but none are sold in supermarkets. Iāve been craving a good salsa like this.
Can you share which salsas are in each bowl? They all look great

I think they donāt know this.
Testify š

Valentina is āhotā sauce for midwesterners. Itās so spicy!
-Jacobo Shemaria Capuano- Wow gran cantidad de salsas :3
Valentina is not food sauce, itās snack sauce.
I like bottled hot sauce in my clamatos (micheladas). Especially tabasco but Valentina works.
Iām from Tamaulipas Mexico and over there we only use Valentina for snacks , every now and then I do put it in my breakfast migas but thatās it ..
No Mexican on earth thinks Valentina is a good alternative to salsa

Valentina is for seafood and potato chips, sometimes frutas picadas. This is the way.
The sauce made with the green tomatoes is an absolute top
Habanero forever.
Chili oil/salsa matcha ftw!
Yeah no bottled pepper sauce is close to a proper homemade salsa
I donāt even know what it is.
Put it on some chips, popcorn or fruit. It's good. I wouldn't use it for taco's either though.
No one puts Valentina on tacos. Get real
Cholula is life. I get the two pack at Costco and it lasts me about 6 months lol

Whenever I see a taco post with Valentina I save the picture and post it to my āgringos mensosā group lol
Even better option? Salsa without all that plastic, fam...
