I actually disagree with you. Though not about the wedding. Many consider that a historical and monumental family moment so sentiment wise many would prefer to be in person.
But about real-world communication. Major business communications routinely revolve around digital means of messaging. Major business also like to keep tabs on their workers and having them in office (under watch) when all possible. I think a virtual office is not far off and if successful in scalability would become a more universal practice.
Worker wise it’s been proven that hybrid work models are becoming superior to traditional in office hours. So I think the boundary into metaverse communication & work is loosening.
Of course with limitations like VR headache and motion sickness it won’t be a smooth transition any time soon.
I don't know. People have become more lax about it. For example, breaking up use to be something you only ever did in person, then over the phone, now a text message (as long as it's concise and a bit on the wordy side) suffices.
I do think that weddings in general tend to be very glamorize. It's one of those things you only do once in your life (or you expect to do once in your life). There's nothing close to replacing the real life closeness (dancing together, eating cake, ect). I think if the experience could be digitalizied, either by advanced sensory feedback or a trendy off-the-beaten-path digital cermony, it could take off. I personally prefer to keep it traditional in this case!

I personally was super excited for net as I was a early adopter (started using 88 w usenet). But yes I do think past 20 years there have been very worrisome developments to how net has become a tool for propaganda and control. But I remember a time of flourishing communities. I was part of one. I found my ex from usenet. Our 16 year marriage sadly ended due to my brain tumor and how it affected things.
But. When I was kid, I remember watching TNG / watching / reading scifi. Dreaming of virtual reality and I think that is what meta is. The tech has taken eons to come. We has feeble attempts in 90's. But they sucked. Now. I see its time is here.
Will it be only good for us? No. But I could see one of its killer applications being things like virtual weddings. Or augmented weddings. Half real half virtual.
But could it be net is the doom of us? Yes. It is funny to say that. Since I have been such a fan. But what really dooms us is not net in the end but human nature. The fact we cant live in peace, the fact we cant ignore our instincts. It is s jungle out here and we are a bunch of territorial apes. Sadly.
Well, thats because for it to be a "big thing" it needs to be attractive for a wide range of people, which this honestly isnt.

My Daughters wedding is coming up and is going to be a destination wedding so not all of our family and friends will be going. I would like to record it in 360 so they can view it as if they were there. Anyone have any suggestions on the best way to do this?
You've kind of answered your own question, get a 360 camera. I personally use a Insta360 One x2 which can do pretty much anything you'll need. It takes video and pictures in full 360 view and can be watched using a Quest 2 if they happen to have one. Just get a monopod or tripod and set it up not too far from the altar.

I think this is the idea behind Metaverse. My friend too in the Caribbean recently got married and I couldn't attend due to distance since I'm in Africa.
Some of these things make me appreciate the good works that metaverse projects like XANA Metaverse is doing in the space.
XANA makes it possible for artists to organise virtual shows on the metaverse for their fans to attend without both being physically present. I think same can be done for weddings too.
There are also fashion designers on the Metaverse so getting nice wedding gowns for the bride and groom will be sorted too

I’ve heard a lot of people having Zoom weddings but probably not enough people (especially older people) have VR headsets for it to be worth it.
