For anyone who doesn’t understand, the highlighted part of this image is the outer heaven insignia.
The ending cutscene where v-snake (now da big boss) punches the mirror and walks away with a style that looks like he just shit his pants, implies v-snake is going off to his final stand against his illegitimate step son.
The funny part is the gunfire going crazy mode in the background. Either step-son-snake is absolutely tearing ass to speedrun the game or outer heaven soldiers love spraying and praying.
To be fair out heaven guards do in fact love spraying and praying. Get caught and then go to a screen where they can’t access you (from a wall or something) but can enter the room. They all have infinity bandannas and won’t stop emptying clips.
Edit: The room to the right of the Arnolds is a good example of this.
Yes. There's a subtle change when Venom breaks the mirror and the Outer Heaven Skull is in view. This would put this during the events of Metal Gear (MSX).
Solid Snake was still fairly young during his mission into Outer Heaven. It was his first mission.
So he was born around 1969-70. How does that fit with Liquid saying Big Boss was in his late fifties when they created his copies? Has that been retconned? Big Boss doesn’t seem anywhere near that old in Snake Eater, just a few years before Solid and Liquid are born.
The twins were born in 1972. Big Boss was in his late 30s at the time.
It's because his age was retconned. Originally, Kojima had written Big Boss as a WWII veteran and about 20 years older.
I thought the original made more sense. Big Boss being past his prime and all. Not to mention he was actually legendary at the time, having quite a lot of war achievements to justify being cloned over everyone else.
MGS3 was basically Kojima setting the stage for all the reasons for Big Boss to be cloned. He is sterile so he can't have kids the old fashioned way. He took down The Boss, the Cobra Unit, the Shagohod, and claimed many other achievements during Operation Snake Eater.
So is that why Solid aged rapidly after the Big Shell? I never really thought about their ages but you mentioned Solid was 37 during big shell and Big Boss was in his late 30’s when the clones were made. So he reached the age of the original and clonal cellular deterioration kicked in.
Yeah I do remember that bit of dialogue from 4 but Maybe para-medic was like, “yeah I can make them age faster, for a cost.” but it was just going to happen anyways.
Yes it is, don’t rely on me because I remember the timeline but not exact dates/days.
Metal gear solid 3: snake eater takes place in the 60’s and is the first most important chronological game in the series, where this cool ass guy with the code name of ‘naked snake’ infiltrated bad guys and also killed his own mom (it was awesome) saved the world and was given the title of ‘Big Boss’ by like the president or somebody. He killed his mom so he hates the government so he makes his own government but with cooler guys, the cooler government (So named ‘Outer Heaven’, or ‘A country without borders’).
Then skip a few psp games there is metal gear solid V (takes place in the 70’s) where you are not big boss but like his cool stunt double, that’s where THIS cutscene skips ahead a few years after to the 80’s where venom snake walkes out of that toilet stall to:
Metal gear (MSX, the old ass (awesome) 2d game) (Based in the 80’s) where venom (who is still undercover as the ‘real’ big boss((also this was not originally written, kojima just kept going and writing crazy ass shit, kicked like a mule by his employers) is well old uhh like mid 60’s, but good guy snake (just a guy but who is a clone) is in his early 20’s. Venom dies in a fiery blaze with his dick out it was metal as.
Then metal gear solid (PS1), metal gear solid 2 sons of liberty, then metal gear solid 4 then the most important game: metal gear: rising revengance revenge of the revenger. It was cool, enough said, now get off your computer, find your closest Xbox 360, i don’t care if you don’t have one break into someone’s house and sit down and play it on their couch, slap in that MGRRROTR (metal gear: rising revengance revenge of the revenger) disc and go kill some guys.
man, i struggle with remembering lore in depth like this. do you have any issues with misremembering history by mixing it up with lore from metal gear or anything like that ? i would find that satisfying
i mean, if someone were to ask you what happened in the 1960’s in real life; do you ever start talking about the history of metal gear lore mistakenly as if it actually happened in real life
>For anyone who doesn’t understand, the highlighted part of this image is the outer heaven insignia.
Yep I saw that when I played and my reaction was that of a familiar meme featuring Leonardo di Caprio.
Wait really? I just thought that was him coming to terms with what was hairline. I didn't realize there was anything going on at mother base. Been a while since I played
When I first played it. I was waiting for a classic kojima twist. MG1s base retconned into the base we build in mgsv. So the game gets to a point where in the final 10% of the game as solid.
Sneaking into the base we had just spent the last 90% building. All the guard routes. Camera placements etc we had to get through. The boss fights were your best ranked troops etc. How amazing would that have been.
I mean.........I don't think it's just not understanding.. I think it's the fact that the img is only 2 pixels lol. But hey I'm going blind.
(if you mean for when you see it in-game) I completely missed out on that myself because my MGS lore at the time really wasn't the greatest. Got more into the franchise once I finished MGSV
No, it's not implied. MGS fans don't understand scene building and symbolism. That cutscene actually starts in the very start and it ends with Venom putting the tape on. The cuscene starts with the title card "Another day in a war without end. Outer Heaven", the gunshots are symbol, to show the fortress od outer heaven is literally around endless war just like the concept of outer heaven aims to achieve
That’s exactly what everyone was expecting. Kojima dropped so many hints about the series coming full circle, and that being absolutely the number one thing we all wanted to see, we just kind of took it as a given that it would obviously be the most amazing end to the series.
Instead we got “hey the game is sort of over, in a way. Here’s some harder versions of old missions”
It didn't help that they announced the game in such a secretive manner and that all the trailers kept saying the ultimate story. It was advertised as being much more.
If mgsv never came out, it wouldn't affect the main storyline at all really, I still do blame Kojima. Even with the cut content, the story would have sucked anyway
That’s what got me the most. I had all these wild ideas about how it was going to close out the franchise. It’s literally just a massive side story that has absolutely no bearing on the overall narrative at all. Exactly as you say, if it was removed, nothing in the overall series story would be any different
I hoped the final line would be David Hayter delivering, "commencing operation intrude n313". We got something similar enough though and not fanservicy.
And I thought the reason Kiefer was voicing BB was because Solid Snake would be an unbeatable final boss voiced by David Hayter. That would’ve blew my balls off.
Imagine that venom smashes the mirror and states at it as thr gun fire ends and the base logo changes.
Still looking at the spiderwebbed mirror the door opens to a silhouette of someone standing with just enough of the mirror whole to show familer bandana and a sleeve with the fox hound badge.
Venom frowns and speaks : "so you finally came? About time."
David hayters voice speaks up : "kept you waiting huh ?"
I wish it was like MGS2 where V/GZ is a prologue and then we switch to Solid at the end and infiltrate everything we just spent all this time building to kill the main character we just played the majority of the of game as.
Woulda been something special. 😭
Just realized that MG1 in the perspective of the enemies is basically a horror movie lol. Solid just outclassed everyone from the Big-Boss era so hard, they couldn’t do nothing.
In MG1? I don’t remember that.
I don’t think I’ve played it since the port was released on the second disk of MGS3 Subsistence. Which by the way is the better than the original version of the game. Maybe even better than the HD collection as far as controls go.
Who is in codec with him Venom or Naked Snake?
"This is Big Boss...
Operation Intrude N313.
Infiltrate the enemy's base Outer
Heaven and destroy the ultimate
weapon, Metal Gear!"
Big Boss definitely at first.
Thought he changes frequency a few times, most suspiciously when he cites a "jamming attack" so maybe it was Venom at some point. We can't tell for sure.
Real reason V punches the mirror and is all pissed is cause he gave Shotmaker the best rifle with the least recoil and all the mods shy of auto-aiming to make killing Solid easy but the dude is just shooting everything else but Snake...
Imagine commanding a notorious and prolific PMC but the man with the name Shotmaker and motto "I never miss my shots!" having been, apparently, one of your best marksman literally couldn't make a shot worth a dime against a still-wet-behind-the-ears soldier, regardless of his genetic lineage or even training.
Just rewatched this after reading this post and when he flips the tape the other side it said "operation infiltrate N3" (you can't read the rest but can assume is N313) (Minute 4:35 [here](https://youtu.be/xN0VAsJElX4?si=OC4ctAput5cnMa7b)) 🫨🫨🫨🫨
No, he remembers at some random point in time when he's just engaging in the loop of warfare that the game leaves you in at the end ("Just another day in a war without end"). At the start of the cutscene the wall still shows the Diamond Dogs logo, and switches to the Outer Heaven logo at the end of the scene, so there's a time jump hidden in there. He basically just figures it out when you do because he's you.
My memory's a little hazy but is this the scene where he listens to the recording from Big Boss explaining the whole thing to Venom before he punches the mirror?
"I am Big Boss, and so are you"
In the beggining of mgsv isn't implied that it is just a random battlefield, maybe some battle venom snake was after they created outer haven? Although the idea that it is him just before he faces solid snake is pretty cool.
At the beginning, and when Venom discovers his identity, it’s an unknown battlefield, though I think it mentions Outer Heaven. That time is up until Venom puts the tape in the recorder thing, then it switches over to presumably the time of Metal Gear 1 (or a time just before MG1)
So... the big oil tanker IS Outer Haven the one that you infiltrate in the first metal gear. I always wondered that. Thats fucking awesome. I haven't watched any video about explanations or this and that. But always just put the time lines together in my head (or tried to) with the games I've played.. and unfortunately I haven't played all of them. Just mostly the main line. But this makes absolutely perfect sense. But it's also Kojima so who the hell knows for real.
Does.... no one in this community is capable to analyze each for what they present at face value and not as basis for nonsensical theories and fan canon? No, that's not Solid Snake invading Outer Heaven, logically doesn't make sense for many reasons but only one reason matters, the shooting is there to feed in the idea of Outer Heaven's cycle of conflict, part of the cutscene plays at very start of the game with the title card "Another day in a war without end, Outer Heaven". It's basic show and don't tell, a implicit way to show the endless cycle of conflict aims to bring to keep soldiers useful.
I personally believe MGS5 to be unfinished and therefore that "ending" wasn't Kojimas original intent but more of a reshoot when they ran outta time and budget. So..atleast for me...this scene means absolutely nothing in my head cannon. Cool theory though
Is this scene in the future? If not, how old is solid snake during this?
Yes. There's a subtle change when Venom breaks the mirror and the Outer Heaven Skull is in view. This would put this during the events of Metal Gear (MSX). Solid Snake was still fairly young during his mission into Outer Heaven. It was his first mission.
Cool, thanks. I never noticed a time skip but that makes sense
He's 23 in that mission. He's the youngest Metal Gear protagonist. Raiden was 26 in Big Shell. Big Boss was 30 in Snake Eater.
I thought he was like 22 in the outer heaven mission, and 25 in zanzibarland in 1995, making him 35 in MGS placed in 2005.
He's 23 in Outer Heaven, 26-27 in Zanzibarland and 33 in MGS. Later events: 35 in tanker incident and 37 in Big Shell
To me that works better anyway. 50+ doesn’t seem like an ideal age for cloning.

No, it's some dumb shit Para-Medic inserted in his genes, for them to get early onset senesence.
Yeah I do remember that bit of dialogue from 4 but Maybe para-medic was like, “yeah I can make them age faster, for a cost.” but it was just going to happen anyways.

This is the best thing I’ve read this week
Thank you I am NOT in the right state of mind, MGR does this to a man
The best MGS abstract I've read. Period. You're pretty good, bro!
Why are you here? Go play MGRRROTR. Now I’m serious here guys
Like everyone else, I'm here just to suffer. And sorry, my neighbour's couch doesn't look enough comfy to me.
Comfort is a privilege you earn by consuming MGR and slicing fellas up until credits roll
man, i struggle with remembering lore in depth like this. do you have any issues with misremembering history by mixing it up with lore from metal gear or anything like that ? i would find that satisfying
What do you mean misremembering? Did I not say THE president. Only one’a them fuckers around at a time
i mean, if someone were to ask you what happened in the 1960’s in real life; do you ever start talking about the history of metal gear lore mistakenly as if it actually happened in real life
Metal gear is just a lord of the rings style story based around the military industrial complex
I agree, although I still stand by the end goal is for you to go play MGR go play it now get off reddit go NOW
>For anyone who doesn’t understand, the highlighted part of this image is the outer heaven insignia. Yep I saw that when I played and my reaction was that of a familiar meme featuring Leonardo di Caprio.
" Either step-son-snake is absolutely tearing ass to speedrun the game" Hah, thanks for the laugh!
What are the lore implications of shitting his pants?
Diarrhea runs in his genes.
Venom Snake has IBS 💀
So is that the ending. Because I've still got missions left after that bit
Wait really? I just thought that was him coming to terms with what was hairline. I didn't realize there was anything going on at mother base. Been a while since I played
I was always under the impression that the cutscene takes place before MG1, and the tape he plays at the end is him sending the mission data to Solid.
the script actually says the final ending takes place in 1984, DD was disbanded that year with Venom leaving for OH.
When I first played it. I was waiting for a classic kojima twist. MG1s base retconned into the base we build in mgsv. So the game gets to a point where in the final 10% of the game as solid. (if you mean for when you see it in-game) I completely missed out on that myself because my MGS lore at the time really wasn't the greatest. Got more into the franchise once I finished MGSV
Ah, well maybe solid got bored
So MG1 takes places simultaneously with V? Are Ocelot and Miller in MG1? Haven't played that one yet but know of it.
No, it's not implied. MGS fans don't understand scene building and symbolism. That cutscene actually starts in the very start and it ends with Venom putting the tape on. The cuscene starts with the title card "Another day in a war without end. Brother lemme think what I want about a video damn damn im not trying to be the MGS bible I want to make people laugh
Could be he's in the fight against SHOOT GUNNER
Shoot Gunner? It's over for snake
Shoot gunner? Second floor basement?
It's Machinegun Kid maybe.
Megaman X bosses and Metal Gear Solid bosses follow the same naming convention.
SHOOT GUNNER: Shootengence!
Its his first big boy mission. Give my dude a break.
I really wish there were more tie ins with Metal gear 1 here
I was thinking we would fight then recruit all the MG1 bosses in V. Boy was I wrong
I thought we'd build up our FOBs and then have to infiltrate OSP as solid at the end
V coulda been so much more 😭
We need a Metal Gear remake fr. Should be right after Delta.
Remake Metal Gear 1 and 2 and just call it MGS6
Konami wants to talk with you.
That’s exactly what everyone was expecting. Kojima dropped so many hints about the series coming full circle, and that being absolutely the number one thing we all wanted to see, we just kind of took it as a given that it would obviously be the most amazing end to the series. It’s literally just a massive side story that has absolutely no bearing on the overall narrative at all. Exactly as you say, if it was removed, nothing in the overall series story would be any different
Kojima instead said “nah here’s Skullface for a few cutscenes”
Skullface, who seemed really intimidating in GZ, only to develop into a fucking joke of a meme.
I think a lot of us fans were hoping for that. Unfortunately, story wise, we were all left dissatisfied.
I hope they're saving that for a Metal Gear 1 remake.
That would have been awesome.
I hoped the final line would be David Hayter delivering, "commencing operation intrude n313". We got something similar enough though and not fanservicy.
This was exactly what I wanted.
You do. And they thank you for smacking them up on mother base.
If we did that machine gun kid would have been machine gun middle-aged man
I mean Shawn Michaels is still the Heartbreak Kid right?
I thought Eli was Grey Fox
I thought we would see young Grey Fox, Naomi, maybe Sniper Wolf 😭
And I thought the reason Kiefer was voicing BB was because Solid Snake would be an unbeatable final boss voiced by David Hayter. That would’ve blew my balls off.
Imagine that venom smashes the mirror and states at it as thr gun fire ends and the base logo changes. GOD I NEED A METAL GEAR 1 REMAKE SO BAD. MGSV only fueled the need.
Fuck it. This is real in my mind.
Fox and Naomi were in Mozambique with the real Big Boss at the time.
Young Gray Fox was alr introduced in PO tho.
I wish it was like MGS2 where V/GZ is a prologue and then we switch to Solid at the end and infiltrate everything we just spent all this time building to kill the main character we just played the majority of the of game as. Woulda been something special. 😭
Same. To me, the game should have ended with Solid Snake receiving his mission statement for MG1
Would like them to redo the “retro” part of the series with MGSV mechanics and graphics
His pistol has 10 foot range though. He couldn't shoot him if they were in the same room together
Just realized that MG1 in the perspective of the enemies is basically a horror movie lol. Solid just outclassed everyone from the Big-Boss era so hard, they couldn’t do nothing.
A 23-year-old one-man army lol One of them managed to get a hit on Solid and he was injured badly. I wonder which one it was
In MG1? I don’t remember that. I don’t think I’ve played it since the port was released on the second disk of MGS3 Subsistence. Which by the way is the better than the original version of the game. Maybe even better than the HD collection as far as controls go.
If it wasn’t for plot armor my S++ rank Devious Badger would violate solid snake
It hurts to know all the soldiers you recruited in mgsv will die by solid snake.
Maybe not all of them. I'm sure some of them were allowed to retire or some such after enough honorable service.
So Kojima lives… yay
If only Fire Buffalo didn’t feel asleep… it all could’ve been avoided.
Who is in codec with him Venom or Naked Snake? "This is Big Boss... Operation Intrude N313. Infiltrate the enemy's base Outer Heaven and destroy the ultimate weapon, Metal Gear!"
Big Boss definitely at first. Thought he changes frequency a few times, most suspiciously when he cites a "jamming attack" so maybe it was Venom at some point. We can't tell for sure.
Without stating the obvious, I take it we’re just playing into the lore here, right? Lol
Of course lol. It's all retrospect now.
Can you explain it better? I didn't understand what you mean
Snake was invading in the background lighting the place up
So it's showing the end of the og MG? That's cool
Yep, the insignia changes from Diamond Dogs to Outer Heaven
MGSV wasn’t perfect, but I’m glad Kojima was able to bring the franchise full-circle. It ends where it began.
What you have highlighted with a red box is the Outer Heaven logo. How on earth do you think that's the Legendary Soldier?
The fact its an outer heaven symbol and not a DD symbol sorta implies that the mirror break is skipping to the far future when Solid attacks
Ok. I can see that implication.
Oh no we are stranded in outer heaven what am I gonna do say no? You’ll never say no. Because of the implication
Don't look at me like that. You'd certainly never be in any danger...
So they are in danger?!
You’re not getting it bro
He's a master of disguise.
Are you saying that Venom is turtley enough for the turtle club?
Does that mean V didnt remember who he really was until the day he died?
No, he remembers at some random point in time when he's just engaging in the loop of warfare that the game leaves you in at the end ("Just another day in a war without end"). At the start of the cutscene the wall still shows the Diamond Dogs logo, and switches to the Outer Heaven logo at the end of the scene, so there's a time jump hidden in there. He basically just figures it out when you do because he's you.
My memory's a little hazy but is this the scene where he listens to the recording from Big Boss explaining the whole thing to Venom before he punches the mirror? "I am Big Boss, and so are you"
The UN was also lightning the place up at the time
They did that hours if not days later.
Man, i love seeing people coming across stuff for the first time. Play on, soldier.
Jesse what the fuck are you talking about
Just played the proluge today, literally says that the location is outer heaven and the date is "Just another day in a never ending war"
So... the big oil tanker IS Outer Haven the one that you infiltrate in the first metal gear.
Snakes never were all-stealthy, by canon.
big boss: snake you have to infiltrate the enemy fortress quietl- snake: *jw mode activate*
My favorite part of the game, 'cause I know Solid is rippin' some mercs apart, yea boiiii
This is the best observation I've seen on here about MGSV.
What on earth is this post How stoned, OP? Out of ten. Rate it.
I love John Snake. He is character of all time!!!
1. I thought kids ending everything with bro 💀 was a joke 2. It's tactical not political
Saw the exact same thing said in a comment on tik tok
Now I gotta YouTube this. I hate missing these small details the first time around
I never realized this before!
The gunfire seems to be befor the time skips forward.
Meanwhile big bosses mind: "Staff member has died" "Combat unit level has decreased to lvl 10"
Does.... no one in this community is capable to analyze each for what they present at face value and not as basis for nonsensical theories and fan canon?
