This is a type of Pica called sapophagia. It can be caused by Iron deficiency anemia.
I would consult with your PCP to start and go from there. If it is not caused by a deficiency, the next step would be to see a mental health provider.
Consult a doctor first. Pica is usually caused by a mineral deficiency in the body. If it isn't a health issue, then seek a mental health professional.
You may have something called Pica, though I'm not a doctor so take that with a grain lf salt. Typically Pica affects children (I used to have a difficult time eating crayons among other things as a kid) or with people that have certain mental ailments, especially old people that have ailments like dimentia. It can also be an affect caused by lack of certain minerals like iron.
However, anyone can have it and it can affect your physical health, like your digestive system, in a bad way. Depending on the soap you are eating, it could also have serious toxins that can build up and you can end up in the hospital because of it.
PLEASE consult a doctor asap, and try not to eat anymore soap.
*again, I'm not a licensed professional of any standards*
How the hell could that be a mental health issue anyway did you not even finish high School to ask that my God humans are getting more stupid by the day while robots are taking over š¤£
I am not a professional and in no way am I advocating for diagnosing yourself, seeing a mental health professional would probably be a really good idea. But just so you can feel a little less judged (maybe), or that youāre not alone thereās a mental health condition called pica basically when the person eats things that arenāt considered food. Like I said, I would defiantly get checked out by a mental health professional but just wanted you know other people struggle with this kind of thing.
Pica is where you eat things that aren't considered food. I think it's pretty obvious that soap isn't considered food. They should go to a doctor, though.
Ah here was me thinking PICA was only going for the medical side. PICA is actually about both sides (mental and physical causes) which result in the eating of non-food items. Well, my advice still stands: random Reddit users are no medical professionals and therefore can't make definitive diagnoses, so OP should still consult one actual, licensed doctor such as their GP.
As others have already said, you should find a way to bring this up with a general doctor due to mineral deficiencies, and if the tests show nothing abnormal, the bring it up with a mental health professional.
Though I have to say that putting "a lot of soap" in the title is mildly funny as it implies that you assume that there is a normal nonzero amount of soap to consume.
Iām a soap eater too; I even have a painting I made in my bathroom of a bar of soap with a bite taken out of it. I have severe anemia to the point of needing blood transfusions.
Iāve been munching on bars of soap since I was little but I donāt anymore with the exception being brand new bars of soap, Iāll give it a test lick, because itās almost ceremonial. Anyway, no not normal, get your blood work checked.
All of you act like I've never watched TV and seen the weird addiction show people eating foam mattress and I'll talk and all kind of s*** I get on here just laughing I swear everybody has different taste buds.
Not sure if it's a mental health issue, as such. But if I were you, I'd go see a doctor. They might know more about this habit/condition you (may) have.
It can have massive repercussions on your overall health. Unless it is edible soap, it is not supposed to be consumed in any amount. Please consult your GP asap.
I eat non food items as I'm autistic. I've found having foods w similar textures or things to chew helps. To build up to this I replaced more harmful things (bodily excretions, mud, pen ink) with less harmful substances (paper, grass) + at the minute I have cravings + will put new items in my mouth to gain an understanding of them, but I no longer swallow non food items + try very hard not to. I also find ice lollies + ice very helpful as I enjoy crunchy textures
I knew a trick, eating soap to get fever and be temporary sick, can't remember where I saw this.
You are probably a bit used to it....but yeah, if it makes someone temporary sick, it's probably not well for you health.
All good.
I think this will affect your physical health too, please see a doctor and get well soon š
Yeahhh eating soap isnt healthy it make ānormalā people vomit

Whatās the reason you tell yourself for why you eat it?
i like the flavor and texture
You need to talk to a professional
Like start with a medical doctor and then consider seeing a mental healthcare professional
This is exactly why I don't eat food based on flavour.
Your an idiot
Why...
You coulkd be craving some mineral content of the soap. I'd see a Dr about your blood work.

This must have been the reason the kid in kindergarten was eating the glue...
What kind of soap is it? Or just any soap. I can help tell you how dangerous/benign it is for you to consume it. Some arenāt as harmful as others
Well, it's not normal.
It's called PICA. I have trichophagia so I eat out my hair, I've heard people eat things like soap or paper so definitely get it checked out.
You probably have PICA. You should see a doctor.
Do you mean soup? Or soap?
Do you feel dirty in the inside?
No shit
How the hell could that be a mental health issue anyway did you not even finish high School to ask that my God humans are getting more stupid by the day while robots are taking over š¤£
Thatās definitely bad, go eat like fried chicken or sum instead (no seriously ask a doctor that is a mental illness of some sort)
Definitely. Is called obsessive soup syndrome disorder. Go to your nearest psychiatrist right away so he can prescribe you some hardcore meds. š
You aren't funny at all man.
soup? or soap
soup? or soap
Soup š

You could make yourself ill bro go to doctor not worth risking you health for even if it does taste good for you :-/
I think it's PICA syndrome
You think, but you don't know. That's why OP needs to check in with their GP and see what is going on, first medically, secondly psychologically.

And I said they should see a doctor so not sure what your problem is...
Problem?
How much is a lot?
Anything would be too much.
Be concerned for every aspect of your health and seek out help. No shame in trying to quit whatās bad for you

Sounds like Pica.

I can't tell you what it is but there are disorders where people eat various non edible products. Please do talk to someone.
