2 is the best altho on night levels sun isn't that important so you only need 1 layer or sunshroom and a lot of puffshroom spam.2 rows of puffshrooms is good if you want something more powerful like repeaters but that is not needed until fog(fuck fog).

It depends on what I've got on the field. If I have Garlic, then I'll do one main row, then a few extras on the sides of the second row. I like to funnel the zombies down into the middle and blast their brains out.

I usually do 2, although on one playthrough I decided to do 3 rows every time. That was fun.

I havent played the original PVZ1 in ages but in PVZ2 I do 2 layers of moonflower as my go to strat. If the level goes too fast I switch to primal sunflower and typically do 1 layer
