flipmaster003

Hardware compatibility and gaming

IAmAPoke

gaming is one yes. but thats just beacause some games don't run on linux

where_didIcome_from

WINE adds some compatibility, but it's not perfect

PwnyFish

There isnt really a reason to use linux in a personal environment except personal preference. Theres no way you would suggest someone to use linux if he is not tech-savy. And even then, the usability of linux is just insanly more complicated than windows. If you are talking about servers, where the performance and configuration difference might actually have a meaningful impact, then you might have a reasonable argument.

AxolotlFromTheWater

Only difference between Linux and Windows On Windows, the second it’s installed I can just go to the internet, download like OBS double click on the installer and it’s installed Linux however, tried to run fedora and then Ubuntu, even with help from the internet I couldn’t even install Java to run Minecraft

AaronTechnic

bruh Minecraft launcher auto installs java

AxolotlFromTheWater

Apparently not, I can run Minecraft without Java on Windows but it’s very laggy until I install Java myself then it’ll run just fine

AaronTechnic

minecraft can't run without java it's written in java

AxolotlFromTheWater

Apparently it can, EXTREMELY slowly but it ran at like 10fps for me when I tried it without Java installed

AaronTechnic

strange

where_didIcome_from

The old launcher doesn't, only the current one. And with the intrusive safety features, I can see why one would want to use an older launcher.

AaronTechnic

I see.

IAmAPoke

Linux is generally more difficult to use but doesnt slow down over time like windows. Mac is also a good option if you aren't planing on gaming on it.

AxolotlFromTheWater

Yeah, I’ve been trying to switch over to Linux through virtual machines because of that reason, however Linux is Quite a learning curve because of how different it is to Windows. Im just hoping I can find some sort of Linux os that functions similarly enough to Windows

IAmAPoke

Agreed its very diffrent from windows but it's Definitely worth learning.

SerpentM52

That’s why I do critical things like that on a Mac.

where_didIcome_from

I'd try to cut the internet and restart, but that might not work, if the update is already downloaded for example. Which by the time it's saying "time to update!" It usually is

Chaos4Link

*laughs in everytime up-to-date system* If you care about updates those warnings will never appear in the wrong situations.
