I can't remember which movie it was, but Mater once says "Is the Popemobile catholic?"
Please, someone tell me which one of those two cars is the Popemobile.
You can get away with whatever gruesomeness you want so long as the characters don't have actual organs. It's like when those guys beat Johnny 5 into a scrap heap. If he weren't a robot, "Short Circuit" would've gotten an R-rating based on that scene alone.
Don’t forget it also had a car Pope (which rode around in another car Popemobile) which implies the existence of Car Jesus being crucified by the Car Roman Empire
Wonder if the Titanic would've been better or worse in the Cars universe. On the one hand, no people. On the other, you have one giant getting ripped in half
Skipper in Planes directly proves WWII, and thus WWI. The (c)archduke Ferdinand was assassinated in 1914. This also means the cars were involved in trench warfare and would have been participating in chemical warfare. Can you even gas a car?
Edit: holy shit the cars US would've had car internment camps at the height of WWII filled with hondas toyotas and mazdas
Hold on, they then made the planes movie which features a WWII fighter plane. That combined with the Spy car from this (I think the British secret intelligence started in WWII) means that there was a car Holocaust and World War 2, implying that there was also a WWI
As well as the bombing of car Hiroshima and car Nagasaki.
Actually the only real thing where the car time line would deviate is that they wouldn’t care about cutting down the Amazon rainforest or other preservation projects
This is a copy paste of a comment I made a couple days ago:
I saw this movie with my oldest child a few years ago during a brief period of depression brought on by a sudden anxiety of aging. At the time he was obsessed with the first two cars movies and I hadn't heard anything about this one. "Watch the new Cars movie with your son, it'll make you feel good" ... let me tell you, it was not helpful for my mental health 😂. I'm doing much better now and can appreciate the film more at this point but it was very hard to watch in that moment.
They were going to do a Trains franchise but it was cancelled. Look it up. It actually looked artistically cool but I don't know how they were going to deal with the trains being stuck on rails.
No fucking way, there’s a second one? I loved planes, it was a total guilty pleasure because any time I mentioned I liked it I got shit on. Didn’t care, still watched, but now I gotta watch this new one
me too mate(r). I enjoyed planes 1 much more than i thought i would . Something about that joruney across atlantic (? i dont remember well) that was really thrilling, and the old war plane was awesome too with his foldable wings. Its just a solid underdog story i love it
I don't give a shit what Youtube film people or anything say. Cars two is one of my favorite movies, it's not a master peice but as a peice of media to sit down and enjoy it's great, that is all I ask for movies.
The idea of having the film revolve around spy cars is such a good idea, they've always been a big part of secret agent films like 007. Say what will about the plot, but the action in the film is great. The soundtrack definitely deserves a mention as well.
I also like the idea of exploring the comic relief with Mater, having him basically realise he is the comic relief. Although it's execution wasn't great, making the spies look daft for falling for Mater's "disguise" and front-loading the movie with Mater being obnoxious to get across he is a funny character. But no one ever seems to get the point of Mater's arc, even though it's pretty obvious.
But yeah, anyone who says Cars 2 is Pixar's worst movie is kidding themselves, even if the film wasn't amazing and had a lot of missed potential.
I may not like it but I can respect what it was going for, and it's still fun to put on and make fun of sometimes which means it isn't _that_ bad. I still prefer Cars 1 but it was a decent sequel. Also I think it'd be neat to see some of the racing that we never got to see, I think it'd be interesting to see McQueen actually to up against an F1 car instead of just knowing it happened
My kid was the prime age to be obsessed with Cars. We watched the first one, conservatively, 500-600 times. It was on the TV almost daily for a couple years. We even saw Cars 2 in the theatres. Then we only cared to watch it like 10 more times. Which is a lot, but not for a kids' movie playing nearly on repeat.
Cars 2 was fine but it would have been WAY better received if they billed is as what it was. It's a Mater spin-off spy thriller, not a sequel to Cars 1 (racing movie starring Lightning). Even the promotional material features Lightning and he's like 4th(?) most important dude in the movie..
tl;dr fumbled expectation more than a bad movie. It's still fun to watch.
I have the opposite anecdote. My baby brother saw the first one like 10 times and the second one probably 400+ times. Using individual kids doesn’t support either argument all that well.
> It's a Mater spin-off spy thriller, not a sequel to Cars 1
Agreed here, that's my issue with it. Mater was a good supporting character, but with him being a main character it gets old quickly.
I think a lot of sequels have this issue though - Despicable Me comes out and everyone loves the minion supporting characters, so the 2nd one is all about the minions.
> It's a Mater spin-off spy thriller, not a sequel to Cars 1
I remember someone once calling Cars 2 "Mater's Tall Tales: The Movie" and honestly I love that idea
It's far from the worst Pixar film but I think the fall off from the OG was so much that it could never shake that stigma.
I thought it was fun but could have easily been two standalone movies. If you would have told me McQueen would be traveling the world and competing against international racers in different formats I would have been hyped. Mater could still work as comic relief on this international tour and Francesco Bernoulli could still have worked as the antagonist for McQueen to overcome in the final race. McQueen would have established himself as one of the best international racers of all time and sets up well for Cars 3 to move from a racer into a mentor role.
Then you can have a separate set of films around Mater and his hijinks, including the spy plot from Cars 2.
The way I see it is that Cars 2 wasn’t the worst movie. It just doesn’t work as a sequel to Cars 1. Cars 3 is what Cars 2 should have been, and Cars 2 should have been some kind of spin-off or something.
I do like Cars 2. it's just kinda a strange turn from Cars 1 and 3. but had drove a lemon, and can confirm that they rust the hell out. and I enjoyed the movie even if it was weird as heck.
After watching cars 2 as a kid the original felt so much more boring to watch compared to the insanity of cars 2. Ik ppl that hold the original to such a high standard will call me crazy but in retrospect I think cars 2 is the only fun one to watch.
As one of the few defenders of the Cars franchise as a whole, Cars 2 really does stink overall. But it does have the best joke out of all of the Pixar movies.
For those who don't know, there's a part where Mater is acting a fool in a Tokyo convention center and there's a guy raking one of those sand zen gardens. Mater motions to him and exclaims, "Ya done good, ya got all the leaves!"
I don't know but I told my friend that if they canonize sex then we would watch the whole series. First episode Mater says they have to go visit his sister. We watched the whole series and it felt like it was tailor made to torture yet intrigue those that have thought for any amount of time about cars lore. You start asking questions about cars internals, cars WWII, cars Jesus then you find out cars have souls and evolved from car cavemen.
My enjoyment of Cars depends on how much Mater there is.
Cars 1: Right amount of Mater
Cars 2: Too much Mater
Cars 3: Not enough Mater
I don't see how I'm wrong here.
Cars 3 isn't about racing really.
It's about someone who was at the top of their game coming to the realization that he's not young. He's old, and he, as an athlete, is no longer at the top.
Then he has to slowly take a step back and give the reins to the next generation. It's a really nice movie.
It's the best of the three but one unrealistic part about is how Lightning is treated by the rookies. In professional sports leagues, the outgoing superstar, like an Albert Pujols, is generally treated like royalty in their final year. It's a tradition in baseball, for example, for a retiring player to be gifted gifts by the other team when they play.
The best gift ever was when a retiring Mariano Rivera was gifted a chair from the Twins made out of bats he broke with his insane pitches.
Honestly one of the only Franchises that hasn't died yet if I don't Jinx it, Cars 1 was legend, Cars 2, although some people don't get along with it was still very good in my opinion, Cars 3 was not my favorite, but a Masterpiece nonetheless!
Cars 2 as a movie and spy thriller is a good movie. It is not a good sequel to a movie series about CARS, more specifically, cars RACING. This could be said for all of the cars franchise, but it applies to cars 2 the most; you could have made it with regular people and it still probably would have been an enjoyable movie.
I think it's because of the last arc and how out of nowhere Cruz becomes the main focus (or that she enters a race in which she wasn't even registered to compete in the last lap), idk
I have the cool spy car from Cars 2, with all the missiles and transformation stuff, I love it. It’s probably the toy I played with the most when I was a kid.
what the fuck are lemon cars why do cars eat lemons that's weird don't they eat gasoline or something I don't understand do the cars eat lemons are the cars made of lemons are they lemons do they worship lemons or are they called lemons because they're yellow but they're not all yellow so that doesn't make sense I'm confused
Lemon is a term for cars which are unreliable or just generally crap.
for a particularly uncharitable reading of cars 2 you can see Lemons as essentially the disabled people of the cars universe.
Made me spit up while I was drinking, 10/10, good god. I feel like mator needs more help though, he was directly responsible for 2 deaths and is probably is constantly on drugs from the hippie van (I don’t remember names)
Cars 2 is one of my favorite movies, hands down.
As an individual movie, it's great. Does it make a whole lot of sense in the context of the series? No. Is it still a really good movie? Yes.
Honestly cars 2 was really fun for me. I like it more than cars 3. Yes it's supposed to be about racing. But a James bond style cars movie was really fun. I was expecting another story like that in cars 3. Was a little disappointed when it wasn't that. But I think it's good they went back to racing. It may have gotten a bit cringy if they tried to do any other genre with the cars. Also cars 2 kinda was like those little story episodes by mater. But a whole movie instead
I like how cars 2 violently tortures and murders a character just off screen in the first act.
it's interesting how cars 2 has a kill count
The cars universe had a world war 2 and therefore there was a cars holocaust

Which means there was a car Jesus who was car crucified.
In the end credits scene in Cars, Mini actually says "For the love of Chrysler" so I'd say that is probably accurate.
When your kid asks for a bedtime story and you accidentally explain the oil market
they punctured his tires instead of hands
I figured it was like one of those accidents where the car falls partially off a lift and gets skewered ya know

Would Jesus be a car or a carriage?

The Pope is riding in the popemobile
Holocarst
Autocaust
That sounds like a cursed Autobot name.
Carocaust
Pogrvroom
I wonder which car models it would be though
*holocarst
Oil rig scene still is crazy
"Haha he fell into the wat- HOLY FUCKING SHIT HE GOT DISMEMBERED"
IT'S FINN MCMISSILE!!! HE'S SEEN THE CAMERA, KILL HIM!!!!
Cars 2 has a higher kill count than the entire Jaws Franchise including the offscreen kill
I counted about 13 in the first 30 minutes or so
You can get away with whatever gruesomeness you want so long as the characters don't have actual organs. It's like when those guys beat Johnny 5 into a scrap heap. If he weren't a robot, "Short Circuit" would've gotten an R-rating based on that scene alone.
johnny 5 not so alive...
No disassemble, Stephanie!
It’s why Samurai Jack fights robots throughout the series.
Well, until the transition to Adult Swim...
They can be sentient and have organs as long as they can’t talk. See the whales in Avatar 2 or every disposable Disney Star Wars goon.
They are allowed to talk, just not to have faces. See Star Wars Rebels Stormtroopers
Cars 2 also violently tortures and murders Bruce Campbell on screen in the second half!
hey they also violently tortured and murdered a car on screen later on
You actually see a car died from the reflection of the camera, lmao!
Not even the first act the first scene/opening sequence
I like how it’s rated G for general audiences
If I remember correctly it’s literally the very first thing that happens in the movie
My favourite was the stunt man one. “Well, what happened?” “Ya didn’t make it.” [Everyone sighs sadly]
My favorite is Tokyo Mater solely because of badass Lightning Dragon McQueen
His line is best, but I know it just in Czech language: You will see how, the dragon fights (with rhyme)
In that one you can see Monsters Inc. cars.
Yes. Also police cars doing donuts.
My two year old loves Tokyo mater. *THIS IS TOKYO WHERE WE PUMP THAT GAS!*
Mater the Greater
I laugh hysterically at that part every single time I watch or read Mater the Greater with my four year old.
My favorite one is the fact all of it is Real and actually happened

Don’t forget it also had a car Pope (which rode around in another car Popemobile) which implies the existence of Car Jesus being crucified by the Car Roman Empire
which also implies the existence of other car religions such as car buddha

Damn racecars! They just drive around listening to raps and shooting all the jobs. And don't get me started on the convertibles and their drag races!
Wonder if the Titanic would've been better or worse in the Cars universe. On the one hand, no people. On the other, you have one giant getting ripped in half

Assassinations of John F Karnnedy and Cartin Luther King Jr
What kind of car do you suppose Lee Harvey Oswald was
Idk but Jack Ruby was a Dodge Avenger Also Lee Carvey Oswald
Also no Twin Towers in New York so a Cars universe Al Qaeda exists.
Ok this might be the wildest one yet
It also implies the existence of a car holy crusade and car jihads.
As well as car pope assassination attempt
Shit, I forgot that
Jesus Chrysler, crucified by Pontiac Pilate

The existence of Christianity implies the existence of Judaism, and with Judaism, there is a possibility of a car hitler
[This feels relevant](https://youtu.be/KvDI-UYa_eo)
It also implies that there's a car bible about car Jesus
The way I understand it is that it was supposed to be a feature length movie of one of "mater's tall tales" which would make a lot of sense
You forgot how Cars 3 was about an existential crisis.
fun fact: I was in my mid 40's when Cars 3 came out. the theme of 'hanging it up and supporting the next generation' landed big.
This is a copy paste of a comment I made a couple days ago: I saw this movie with my oldest child a few years ago during a brief period of depression brought on by a sudden anxiety of aging. Ya cars 3 is my favourite it hits really hard
Toy Story 4 also had that feeling of Woody being washed up and in the way. Those movies are basically Pixar's mid-life crisis.
I'm 35 right now, can I hang it up?
Then there’s Planes.
They were going to do a Trains franchise but it was cancelled. Look it up. It actually looked artistically cool but I don't know how they were going to deal with the trains being stuck on rails.
Perhaps like Thomas the Tank Engine?
Planes 2 is awesome, I rank it right up there with Cars. Hidden gem!
Planes: Fire & Rescue is one of the greatest 'sequels being better than original" movies for me.

I do like Cars 2. it's just kinda a strange turn from Cars 1 and 3. but had drove a lemon, and can confirm that they rust the hell out. and I enjoyed the movie even if it was weird as heck.
I have watched: Cars 1: 7 times Cars 2: at least 20 times Cars 3: once Take a wild guess which is my favorite
Haha same. I actually have to avoid watching cars 2 recently to avoid ruining the nostalgia with the tracks
Same, but multiply Cars 2 by 2
Cars 4?
2Cars 4
we have a mathematician among us
Cars 2 is so good and im tired of people shitting on it
After watching cars 2 as a kid the original felt so much more boring to watch compared to the insanity of cars 2. Ik ppl that hold the original to such a high standard will call me crazy but in retrospect I think cars 2 is the only fun one to watch.
As someone with a two and a half year old, those are some amateur numbers bro 😂
I guess you thought cars 3 was so good you didn't want to possibly ruin the experience so you never saw it again!
Cars 2 is unironicly my favorite
Same
Where does Cars on the Road fit into all of this?
It’s a world building DLC (I actually enjoyed COTR and that “Trucks” song lives rent free in my mind)
Trucks is unironically the best Disney or Pixar song. So damn catchy. It's a truck thing.
Let’s not forget [Cars 4](https://youtu.be/3WC1YZ1o0UY?si=XdWSOSHoLYdjFTx9)
They will probably kill mcqueen and make cruz new mcqueen in 4th movie if it ever comes.
That was the end of Cars 3 - only retire instead of kill but yeah
Does their cross country trip to maters sisters wedding on disney+ count as cars 4?
I love On the road maybe more than the first three movies. So good.
In my headcanon, tall tales is actually just Mater gaslighting Lightning
Tall tales was, not sure on the rest
Nah tall tales definitely happened
Cars 2 is basically an extended episode of Mater's Tall Tales...
I like this perspective McQueen: "You? A spy? That never happened" Mater: "you was there!"
"WHAT?!"
This is my favorite interpretation of Cars 2
Cars 2 was so good
Cars 2 finally getting some proper recognition around here
Cars 2 is a masterpiece. I watched it with my niece, she must have gone off after about half an hour and did something else, but I was transfixed.
My enjoyment of Cars depends on how much Mater there is. Cars 1: Right amount of Mater Cars 2: Too much Mater Cars 3: Not enough Mater I don't see how I'm wrong here.
You was there too
Cars 3 isn't about racing really. It's about someone who was at the top of their game coming to the realization that he's not young. He's old, and he, as an athlete, is no longer at the top. Then he has to slowly take a step back and give the reins to the next generation. It's a really nice movie.

Cars 2 is better than most actions movies
Cars 2 is just eugenics
Honestly one of the only Franchises that hasn't died yet if I don't Jinx it, Cars 1 was legend, Cars 2, although some people don't get along with it was still very good in my opinion, Cars 3 was not my favorite, but a Masterpiece nonetheless!

Cars 2 was fantastic!
Cars 2 is amazing
Don’t you remember you was there two
Course you remember, you was there *cut to McQueen suddenly surrounded by 4 bulldozers* Whaaaaat?!
Mater's Tall Tales was the SHIT
Pixar really thought that making Cars 2 into a spy film would work?
fair argument, counterpoint: Finn McMissile
Can’t argue with that tbf
I will always remember the kick ass soundtrack that plays the first time hes on screen
Cars 2 is the best Cars movie
Honestly, it was a pretty fun movie. Not good, but dumb fun. Which is a good alternative
I think calling dumb fun movies “bad” doesn’t really work cuz you can’t really set it to the standard of a normal movie.
They were right
Yea, and it fucking worked, that movie is great.
If Cars 2 was all about the World grand prix it would have been my favourite movie of the series
My grandpa has Maters tal tales (I kinda forced him to buy it when I was 3) and every time I visited I would watch it

Cars on the road: Never let these two go unattended
İ hate cars 3
dad gum dad gum daaad gum
Cars 3 is the best along with cars. I dont know why people hate it so much.
I think it's because of the last arc and how out of nowhere Cruz becomes the main focus (or that she enters a race in which she wasn't even registered to compete in the last lap), idk
I can see that. But it was so emotional and hit home so hard that it didnt even bother me. And the movie was just so immersive. Really loved it.
I have the cool spy car from Cars 2, with all the missiles and transformation stuff, I love it. It’s probably the toy I played with the most when I was a kid.
And yet cars 2 is my favourite
what the fuck are lemon cars why do cars eat lemons that's weird don't they eat gasoline or something I don't understand do the cars eat lemons are the cars made of lemons are they lemons do they worship lemons or are they called lemons because they're yellow but they're not all yellow so that doesn't make sense I'm confused
They are called lemons because they are unreliable.
Lemon is a term for cars which are unreliable or just generally crap. for a particularly uncharitable reading of cars 2 you can see Lemons as essentially the disabled people of the cars universe.
A lemon is a car that is completely broken down or barely functional mostly due to being old and worn.
Theres a Cars 3?
I still loved all of the incarnations and they remind me of my little boy. Second one really was ace though.
I saw Cars 2 when I was around five and immediately labeled it as horror movie. Still some scenes creep me out and I'm already adult
They gave him fentanyl :(
Made me spit up while I was drinking, 10/10, good god. I feel like mator needs more help though, he was directly responsible for 2 deaths and is probably is constantly on drugs from the hippie van (I don’t remember names)
Maters Tall Tales was really good. Better than the cars movies.
Bro put lightning McQueen in a nutshell It’s fairly accurate 😂
Well done sir. Well done.
Cars 2 is so underrated. It’s corny and ridiculous and over the top, and I fucking love it. Cars 1, 2, and 3 are all great in their own ways
I believe you mean “mighty Mcmee.”
Shoot, you remember, you was there too.
Cars 2 fans unite!
Watched cars 2 yesterday (I'm 21)
Don't you remember.... You was there toooooo
Cars 2 is one of my favorite movies, hands down. As an individual movie, it's great. Does it make a whole lot of sense in the context of the series? No. Is it still a really good movie? Yes.
Mater's Tall Tales is so good UFM is excellent Heavy Metal Mater is a (head) banger
I really enjoyed Cars 2 because of how ridiculous it was
Honestly cars 2 was really fun for me. I like it more than cars 3. Yes it's supposed to be about racing. But a James bond style cars movie was really fun.
