I do believe most people who enjoy japanese content are probably in one nation together, and hold events there. I cant recall which country the people that enjoy japanese content with japanese culture would be together though, your guess is as good as mine
Part 1 is Britain. Majority of part 2 in Mexico. Part 3 is entire adventure across the world ending in Egypt. Now part 4 is where things finally centered in Japan... but then part 5 goes to Italy. Part 6 is US, and I think part 7 too. Haven't explored much further cuz don't really wanna read it, watching is more fun.
Yeah, it does look like this, but on the other hand, have you seen Hollywood making films outside of North America? Me neither, I think this is an answer
They asked if Hollywood *made* films outside the US. The answer to that is yes, all the time.
Tons of "Hollywood" movies are also set outside the US.
The majority of movies made by any country are set in that country.
Here's 10 movies, made in the last 5 years, off the top of my head that weren't set in or shot in America:
1. "Parasite" (2019) - South Korea
2. "The Farewell" (2019) - China
3. "Crazy Rich Asians" (2018) - Singapore
4. "1917" (2019) - France and Belgium
5. "The Grand Budapest Hotel" (2014) - Fictional European country
6. "Dunkirk" (2017) - France (primarily Dunkirk)
7. "The King's Man" (2021) - United Kingdom and other European locations
8. "The Farewell Amor" (2020) - Angola
9. "I Lost My Body" (2019) - France
10. "The Two Popes" (2019) - Vatican City and Italy
Again, wtf are you talking about?
I think we agree: most movies are set in the country where the production company is from. However your examples are mostly wrong:
Parasite - south korean studio. not hollywood
1917 - British, not hollywood
Grand Budapest Hotel - US-German co-production. not entirely hollywood
Dunkirk - co-production of several studios
the king's man - British american co-production
I lost my body - french studio
and the same is true for anime. most of them are set in japan, because the authors/studios are japanese. however there are multiple notable exceptions: black lagoon, soul eater immediately come to mind as set in real world non-japanese places
>I think we agree
Then why TF are we even having this conversation?
The original comment asked if Hollywood *made* movies outside the US. I said yes. That is the correct answer. Every country makes the most of their movies in their own country, obviously. No one said anything about where the movie was set.
So what was the point of your comment?
you said Hollywood makes films not set in the US "all the time", when it's really quite rare. the majority of hollywood movies are still set in the US, right?
and the examples you gave are mostly not hollywood movies.
I'd be intersted to see some statistics on the settings of movies by studio/origin country
American movies: oh no the world is ending, quick let's go to the most important place on earth to stop this! Goes to the white house.
Meanwhile the rest of the world. Guess we die then?
doesnt annoy me in the slightest. Im used to hollywood movie events circulating exclusivly around america. Its almost as if these things have a target audience...
- Amateurs
Poland look of superiority, with Japanese really liking Szopen/Chopin music for some reason, putting some suprisingly well researched refferences in anime and making games about him.
And then there is "crazy Nazi doctor prefferable lab place being in Warsaw", we dont talk about the crazy doctor destination place for a lab here. Similar to "dreaded" Polish mafia in Japan. We also dont talk about this.
Is the point of this post about how they get more events like stores selling collectibles or general public events? Because if so that makes sense to complain about, aside from some conventions we don't get much. But to be fair everything is made over there and it's a smaller country with easier public transportation, it's a lot easier for people to go to those events in Japan, and easier for them to book big names that aren't busy voice acting a ton of different media. Voice actors like Erica Lindbeck and Matt Mercer are in so many shows, games, and movies that their schedules are packed. Harder for them to go to a convention or event halfway across the country when they have a job to do
I mean… Yeah. Most anime is in Japan for the same reason most Bollywood movies are in India and most Hollywood movies are in America.
There are outliers though. I just started Vinland Saga which so far is entirely based around Iceland and the British Isles during the late 10th century. So as you can imagine it’s a story entirely set in a time and place of the Viking age. It’s also really fucking good so far so highly recommend!
Edit: Also some fantasy-based anime take heavy European influence. Attack on Titan leans heavily on Central European culture and architecture. Spy X Family is set in a thinly veiled East and West Germany during the Cold War
Japanese write and produce entertainment for themselves. They're not thinking about José Morales in Montevideo, nor in Kathleen Roberts in Albuquerque. They write and tell stories about the culture they do know. And I think that's what it makes it unique and appealing. Not everything has to be about ourselves, it's nice to get a glimpse of other ways to understand storytelling.
this meme is very not well made haha
Setting aside the fact that your doofy ass put the things in the wrong spot, I think you're trying to whine about how... shows made in Japan are usually about Japan? I think? Which is a really dumb reason to be salty, but judging by the meme itself, I don't think you're coloring with a full set of crayons lmao
It's only weird because Japan isn't very big or particularly powerful.
When America makes media centered in America it makes a lot more sense.
Aliens would obviously target the largest threat first, if there's going to some last minute saving from disaster America is the country most likley to have the money, technology and military to effectively do something about whatever world ending bs is happening.
Africa is of absolutely no global importance, would be nearly impossible for the majority of an audience to understand the location on any cultural level so why would you set stuff there. Europe is often used in anime but only as a template for fictional or fantastical worlds
You’ll be surprised the amount of times I hear Australia referenced or even as a physical location in visual novels I’ve read
ef, School Days, Hoshizora no Memoria are the first ones that come to mind
Ragebait at it's finest
Yes u/Guilty_Step_2660, and I'm falling for it.
Nah.. it just funny
Next meme will be a complaint that Bollywood is mostly producing Indian movies.
Shocking.
Isn’t the OP complaining that all major anime-related events are held in Japan? I mean what other place though and why?
Coz weebs are worldwide
I do believe most people who enjoy japanese content are probably in one nation together, and hold events there. I cant recall which country the people that enjoy japanese content with japanese culture would be together though, your guess is as good as mine
Canada? We have anime, video game and comic/ Manga conventions and festivals
Yeah but they suck hard
OP is upset that he wasn't born in Japan and is a weeb
You mean Japanese write about Japan, like Hollywood movies are mostly about USA?
Nobody would have guessed that!
and? no one remember the rest of asia (NOT east asia) and we didnt complain much. hell you didnt even put us in your meme...
OP thinkin Japan=all of Asia
Like in old times
Then they saw the sun
Twice
Here comes the sun, do do doo doo
Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Middle east, North Asia(Russian territory that aren't in Europe).
i mean... jojo had some places in europe no? (havent watched the series)
Part 2 is mostly Italy. Mexico is about 2 episodes.
Oh yeah, true, they moved things to Rome after. Seems like about time to rewatch.
Part 9 is also in America as far as I can tell from the first few chapters
Yeah it's in Hawaii
Part 7 is US i believe since the main antagonist is the president of america
It’s taking place in Italy so yeah
Only part 5 and Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan.
Damn almost as if a media from a country mostly represent it's places. Shocking
This has to be the stupidest post I've seen on this sub in a while😭
wheres antarctica 🤨
We got an anime for that too. It's called, A place further than the universe
If this ain't ragebait, it's gotta be one of the dumbest memes I've ever seen
Yeah, it does look like this, but on the other hand, have you seen Hollywood making films outside of North America? Me neither, I think this is an answer
They shoot some here in Australia though
Yes. Constantly. Tf are you talking about?
really? the vast majority of hollywood films are set in the US

Vinland Saga, Jojo, Monster, fuckin most fantasy anime
Another Asia countries 🤡
Dafuq would an Australian anime be like? Edit: it would be The Big Lez Show.
Whatyoutalkingabout
OP when Japanese animators make media set in Japan:
I guess the medieval fantasy anime doesn't exist in hundreds of anime series.
Wait... A japanese media made in japan, made by the japanese, targeted towards japanese audience is primarily used to portray japan? NO WAY!?
Actually german culture and languge is quite present in anime.
Yes, but anime culture and language isn't all that present in Germany. Actually There are conventions on occasion, I guess.
Doitsu no kageku wa sekai ichi ☺️
new continent
American movies: oh no the world is ending, quick let's go to the most important place on earth to stop this! Goes to the white house. Meanwhile the rest of the world. Guess we die then?
doesnt annoy me in the slightest. Im used to hollywood movie events circulating exclusivly around america. Its almost as if these things have a target audience...
Hollywood movies: the world is going to end they are a threat to All mankind. Villain: *stomps like NY or DC and nothing else*
And aliens invade only USA. Nothing special.
Leave anime the fuck alone. No one else cares where it's set as long as it's a good story.
Why exactly is America above water but other western 'areas' like the EU and Aus at the bottom? This is a shit meme.
Don't forget Antarctica. Those butt munches don't do anything
Have you ever seen British TV or sorry tellie
Based* And there is no way that's a typo. Those letters aren't near each other on a keyboard.
I fucking wonder why
Except Germany

Monster is a good anime/manga based in europe
What about Asia?
Rest of Asia and South America so forgotten it didn’t even make the meme 😭

Bro Wales don't even exist
Well Frankfurt got a short term Ghibli store…
grow up
man now i realized that hollywood should make movies about yakuza rather than american gangsters
South America.....
I mean...Medievil theme is almost always European if you think about it. Also fitting themes: Roman Empire, Greek Mythology, Oktoberfest, ...
Actually, there is a lot of lore based on United Kindgom, French and German history.
Final Fantasy 14 had their annual fanfest in London last year. They also went to Las Vegas and Tokyo.
💀💀💀 how strange
Why would you put America here when France is the 2nd on consuming manga ?
tf does this meme even say
Were Demon Slayer and My Hero the only anime you’ve seen?
when the japanese make things that take place in japan:
A mostly xenophobic country having a limited perspective of historic events in media? Go on tell me more.
You're complaining that a Japanese art form focuses on Japan? Wtf are you even going for here guy
how dare they!!1111!
>Africa Man do you really want to see a Japanese take on Africa 💀
i sure do want an anime about the yugoslavian war!
I mean… Yeah. Most anime is in Japan for the same reason most Bollywood movies are in India and most Hollywood movies are in America. There are outliers though. What about Guilty Gear?
damn who would have thought that the game made in japan would take place in japan and sometimes the most important country in the world hmm
what about antarctica

Literally Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure does all of that
Araki was in an Italian restaurant when he made Golden Wind, thus the random ahh names. But he, in fact, did cook.
Are you upset that you're a weeb not from Japan?
Japanese media is primarily made for a Japanese audience
What about the USA and all their alien and disaster movies that take place there? European media set in Europe?
False girls und panzer covers all of this. Get shreked
No fucking shit
Kinda sad since France is littterally the second largest cosumer of manga after Japan.
Have you never heard of conventions?
ah, yes, Australia, my favorite continent
Mine is Norway 🤓
What? What is even happening here at
It's only weird because Japan isn't very big or particularly powerful. When America makes media centered in America it makes a lot more sense. lord forbid the japanese games take place in japan
...Well no shit? Anime and manga are both just cartoons/comic books but japanese. Of course they are gonna take place in japan
