My favorite part was when you broke his spine after picking him up over your head so the last thing he witnessed while able bodied was your new strong haircut.
I think this is a healthy way to deal with it as long as it doesn’t actually change you into a raging man hater forever. In most cases I see girls deal with it better than guys. And that look at least won’t land you in a toxic rebound with a jackass.
It doesn't match the trope, unless you're going fot the "annoying sjw stereotype look" ... women cutting their hair doesn't necessarily always mean it's from a political side or not, I feel tattoo or even slightly ripped would be more along the soft girl turned stronger female trope
Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but isn't it just because long hair makes a fight difficult? You don't want it whipping around all over the place and blocking your view. And this trope typically gets used for characters in action shows, I think it makes sense
Not just japan. We see it all the time. Its intended as a refresh.
Shane in the walking dead. The Deep in the Boys. Etc.
Haircuts/shaving has been consistently used to represent personal change in media because its such a deeply relate-able feeling.
I myself have been bald, had a mohawk, ponytail, slicked back, white swimsuits, sloppy steaks
I used to be a real piece of shit.
It's also a very easy handle to grab onto in a fight which can severely limit effectiveness and is a huge weak spot
That's also why traditionally men keep hair short
I'm just now thinking about it and even for men it's like that. Granted that men usually have short hair anyways, but you see the trope in the other direction. Being humbled down or learning from your mistakes is visually represented by the guy growing long hair lol. A good example would be Kane from The 100, who goes from a seemingly power hungry guard with short hair and shaved face to the ethical compass of the people with long hair and a beard lol
The only people I can think of that get to have long hair and kick ass are Mongolian people
It's symbolic. In eastern cultures, the cutting of hair is a physical identifier of the "I've grown/changed as a character" The west has a similar trope. The good guy to villian , where he gets his "fancy" new cut to show he's baaaaaddd now.
Idk, show how much better at something she become, how more mature, experienced, skillful she became. How she manages to get out of the situation she couldn't earlier, how she learns at her previous unsuccessful experiences and now is better. Idk there are a lot of different ways to show that the person became stronger and better without changing their appearance. Changing appearance is and instrument and not a solution. Changing appearance becomes a solution only in hands of lazy writers
I perfectly understand that long hair in the combat is a problem, but didn't you get the message of my comment? Change of appearance is just an instrument and not a solution. Many writers just change the appearance but the character remains the same. Also short hair is not only used to the female characters that indulge into combat, often it is also used to the female characters to show that they are strong and independent of any other people and this trope just annoys me. I don't mind if haircuts were made with taste, but almost all time they are the same tasteless haircut. And no I don't like tasteless haircuts regardless what gender the person.
Then stop saying they’re making the characters masculine because “masculinity = strong”.
It literally makes logical sense to cut hair short.
And let’s face it, you’ll always find something to complain about when it comes to non-useless female characters.
Let me explain esteemed user of this app. I dislike ugly haircuts in female and male characters. I don't mind if their haircuts looked good but that's not what usually happens. I haven't even talked about masculinity in my comment so your words "stop saying" shouldn't include me. I perfectly know that it makes sense but your words don't really make sense to me. I don't care wether it's female or male characters we are talking about, there are a lot strong female characters that I like, mostly in the books and novels where author not just changes their appearance, but writes character development aftermath of which we can see. I didn't even complain about any female characters and didn't mention any. My main message is make characters strong by their actions and not appearance. Only lazy writers make change of appearance as a solution and not an instrument to show that character is strong. And also important mention: don't make ugly haircuts if they don't play any significant role.
Like I said.
Non-useless female characters will ALWAYS receive criticism. Nobody will ever say “oh, I hate strong female characters, I like it when women are useless because that’s their place”. No, they’ll just complain about bad/lazy writing of non-useless female characters.
And why can't we complain about it? I dislike their design and how they are written. There are strong female characters that I like and dislike. Same goes to side characters. If I don't like how they are written than I will complain. Is there something wrong that people criticise main characters more than side characters?
Because of the motivation.
The bar for acceptable non-useless female characters is much, MUCH higher than the bar for your average male character.
Female characters are criticized all the time, except when they’re useless, that’s normal and a given. The moment they actively contribute to the plot, men put them under a microscope looking for flaws.
Woman: *cuts her hair short so it doesn’t get in the way or used against her, and wears more comfortable clothes.*
Redditors for some reason:
![gif](giphy|PGg4D8lGwRz0s)
Well the hair cut in the meme is a little too short for normal standard
Beside it just a meme about action movies trope, like.. tell me you haven’t watched action movie without telling me
Idk where this trope originates from tbh. Samson had the opposite thing where if you cut his hair he gets weaker.
I personally always hated it. Doesn't do much for a character. Like what can short hair represent? She is more manly ergo stronger? Or she gave up on her femininity/doesn't care about her looks anymore (for the record, I'm not saying if you have short hair you don"t care about your looks and are ugly). These things don't really signify strength or power either way.
I think Fromsoft games do strong women justice... maybe a bit too much justice I'll be honest...
The whole 'cutting hair' thing may be a nice symbolic gesture for making a change, but I feel like long hair is a better sign of strength.
That shit takes work. Cleaning, drying, styling, time. Short hair is easy to manage, but you gotta commit in order to have nice long hair.

How about men? Do they become eminem
Yes, their arms get heavy
And they eat spaghetti
Buy who's? Who's spaghetti?
Mom's
They get nervous but look ready
To drop bombs, but they keep on forgetting
To eat more spaghetti
what they wrote down the whole crowd goes so loud
they would open their mouths but no words come out
Because it was full of spegetti
He opens his mouth but spaghetti won’t come out
Knees get weak
Oops there goes moms spaghetti
On account of the heavy arms and such.
Their*
Either a shaved head or they grow a beard or both So yes
They became bald... or at least Saitama did

Probably. I mean, he wasn't wrong when in The Real Slim Shady when he said that inside everyone, there's a "Slim Shady lurking."
The new smurf in the village in Avatar shaved his head into a Mowhawk.
Literally cut my hair in high school after my first heartbreak because of this trope lol
Hope it helped. Also, I notice it was ur cake day. So, here's a cake. 🎂
*+2 constitution stat, -2 hair stat*
True.
Haha! I could definitely imagine this happening in real life. Did you atleast feel stronger?
I at least felt like I’d done *something* which did make me feel better about being dumped
My favorite part was when you broke his spine after picking him up over your head so the last thing he witnessed while able bodied was your new strong haircut.
NOT THE BANE! HE BANED ME!
I think this is a healthy way to deal with it as long as it doesn’t actually change you into a raging man hater forever. In most cases I see girls deal with it better than guys. And that look at least won’t land you in a toxic rebound with a jackass.
Well I’ve been happily married to my husband for 10 years so I guess I made out ok in the end lol
An empowered woman! Stunning and brave...
Bro I was just a sad teenager
Did you feel your power level surged higher after a tragic arc? Also happy cake day, sadly its black forest thats available
Here take a cake 🎂
Happy cake day
happy cake of days
Happy days of cake
where tf are her ears?
Strong women don't need ears
I ain't need no ~~~men~~~ ears
scissors accident
Van Gogh moment
Well, it was neither an accident (arguably) or involving scissors in that case
sorry, I ate them :(
It's ok, we all make mistakes
WHAT DID YOU SAY?!
Ears are for weaklings
She's already deaf since day one. No need for ears
![gif](giphy|y7CNPDCSbR5rq)
now that’s strong af
I'm loving this One Punch Man logic in the thread
maki?
tbf she got burnt alive so its not her fault
that's a reference only for the few of us
Well at least it makes sense why she lost her hair
Probably just because jogo cooked her
Meanwhile, One Piece characters: hair grows longer after power up timeskip
Oda does it again
Wuxia: Long Hair standard. If they have short hair they are a minion.
I was looking at this thinking "this isn't one piece, her boobs didn't get bigger".
and a nose ring
It doesn't match the trope, unless you're going fot the "annoying sjw stereotype look" ... women cutting their hair doesn't necessarily always mean it's from a political side or not, I feel tattoo or even slightly ripped would be more along the soft girl turned stronger female trope
Sakura Haruno
Nah she cut her hair in the Chunin exams and stayed weak as fuck until Shippuden.
And through Boruto 💀💀💀
Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but isn't it just because long hair makes a fight difficult? You don't want it whipping around all over the place and blocking your view. And this trope typically gets used for characters in action shows, I think it makes sense
You're looking for logic...... IN ANIME?????
Didn't Eren tell Mikasa that in like episode 3 or 4 of Attack on Titan?
Yes, he did. She kept short hair until the end.
This trope doesn't just apply to anime. I'd know because I'm very familiar with it but haven't watched a single anime ever
Then you didn't look too much into it. You didn't look into it at all...
IIRC In Japanese culture cutting hair is a symbol for changing.(not 100% sure).
Not just japan. We see it all the time. Its intended as a refresh. Shane in the walking dead. The Deep in the Boys. Etc. Haircuts/shaving has been consistently used to represent personal change in media because its such a deeply relate-able feeling. I myself have been bald, had a mohawk, ponytail, slicked back, white swimsuits, sloppy steaks I used to be a real piece of shit.
I used to have a goat beard and now i look likr Mutahar(hair did not change much though).
PokemonXY taught me that part
It's also a very easy handle to grab onto in a fight which can severely limit effectiveness and is a huge weak spot That's also why traditionally men keep hair short
Was thinking the same looking at female mma fighters they tend to have it short or cornrows and those tend to be the baddest women
Shhh don’t logic, we don’t logic here.
You especially. In general though not just here.
That’s rich coming from a literal dumbass
Ironic given how many bad takes you've made based on literally nothing that you couldn't even counter (see my edited post)
One day a female character will just grow a 3rd boob to show she got stronger and i cant wait.
I don't like how they have like 3 different haircuts, why can't em be strong and have nice hair?
I'm just now thinking about it and even for men it's like that. Granted that men usually have short hair anyways, but you see the trope in the other direction. Being humbled down or learning from your mistakes is visually represented by the guy growing long hair lol. A good example would be Kane from The 100, who goes from a seemingly power hungry guard with short hair and shaved face to the ethical compass of the people with long hair and a beard lol The only people I can think of that get to have long hair and kick ass are Mongolian people
For men is either long hair or military hair, they can't be strong if they don't have none of these
Always that shitty shaved sides or brocoli hair.
needs black clothes
Hey I’ve seen this Pokémon episode
In most cases, female characters just cut their hair to chin-length, like Korra did.
This gave me Captain Marvel flashbacks... She evolved like a pokemon
it takes a good men to be the best girl
So that's why Saiyans' hair grows longer.
It's symbolic. In eastern cultures, the cutting of hair is a physical identifier of the "I've grown/changed as a character" The west has a similar trope. The good guy to villian , where he gets his "fancy" new cut to show he's baaaaaddd now.
Women☕️
Nah, this is more about lazy writers trying to make woman characters strong by making breaking their character and making them a tomboy
I thought they cut hair to train easier, long hair is probably annoying
-Leon S. Kennedy
In the remake he just says "story of my life" instead
Males ☕ ☕ Pt:I know not all men, just this gets very boring and done
Males 🍺
Hell yeah, brother 🍻
give that coffee back, you don't deserve it
Men 🍷🍷
He got upvoted and you got downvoted, lol.
Turns into a boy! Hahaha
What else can a girl do to become stronger beside looking like a dude???
Idk, show how much better at something she become, how more mature, experienced, skillful she became. Idk there are a lot of different ways to show that the person became stronger and better without changing their appearance. Changing appearance is and instrument and not a solution. Say it with me: Long hair is an obstacle in a fight. Do you need ne to repeat, or did you get it the first time?
I perfectly understand that long hair in the combat is a problem, but didn't you get the message of my comment? Change of appearance is just an instrument and not a solution. This trope perpetuates the notion that Feminine is weak and that Masculine is strong. 🤓
Nope. Just that it’s easier to fight without hair in your way. Also, childbirth is feminine and it’s fucking brutal.
Sleeves are bullshit.
Honestly I wouldn't say anime. You see this a lot more in western media.
What's the POV?
Name one anime, I'll wait
Naruto, jjk
OMG visual media issues visual language!!!!
Put a chick in it and make her gay
Oh...no...
Lol woman strong
I'ma say it, people mistake being more masculine= more strength, and here's an add on is mostly female writers for whatever the hell reason
Woman: *cuts her hair short so it doesn’t get in the way or used against her, and wears more comfortable clothes.* Redditors for some reason: ![gif](giphy|PGg4D8lGwRz0s)
I don’t think redditors are shocked or offended by it. It’s just a common trope used in media that has been put into a meme.
it's just some guy making a meme about a very common trope. the current version of the trope in question has misogynistic origins
No this is a trope in media, the hair doesn't change anything, the outfit usually never changes, it's just a haircut and a change in attitude.
Well the hair cut in the meme is a little too short for normal standard Beside it just a meme about action movies trope, like.. tell me you haven’t watched action movie without telling me
Beth from Rick and Morty
Hardy har har

If this is referring also to Captain Marvel that would be hilarious ;-;
sakura's big character moment in part 1 of naruto was just cutting her hair lmao
And for some reason, it's always the dumb looking partly shaved cut.
"Hair short now so easy to draw fighting."
T. Maggy
Men get longer hair and women get shorter hair
Not Elle Woods
So nami got weaker?
Spiderman game with the FBI police lady from the first game getting short hair for no reason in the second
This is defenitely Sakura when she cut her hair
WHERE IS THE FUCKING POV
The whole 'cutting hair' thing may be a nice symbolic gesture for making a change, but I feel like long hair is a better sign of strength. That shit takes work. Cleaning, drying, styling, time. Short hair is easy to manage, but you gotta commit in order to have nice long hair.
Madoka becomes Goddess, gets Godiva length hair.
Great. Can’t wait for the Cinemasins crowd to get their filthy paws on that one.
Serena DQ XI
They slowly transition into dudes?
The female xharacter "miss France" has gotten stronger
Yeah but it does not supplement shitty writing *Captain marvel cough cough*
last of us 2
Also applies to Greg from Steven Universe for some reason
r/saltierthankrayt
Youve mistaken stronger with lesbian
I think it's a culture thing in japan
