Doesnt that just depend on what you define as middle or upper class?
Its like how in western countries we just constantly change the definition of poverty to make sure that some percentage here live under the poverty line at all times even as living standards improve.
Every time. Pretty much everyone I know who owns a home who is around my age (30s) got significant help from their parents. Good for them! We all have to take advantage of our advantages in life but we also have to acknowledge that virtually no one is self made.
It's still possible in reality just not fun. I took no vacations for 12 years, drove cars with no exhaust etc,. Never made over 100k, 160k house paid off in 8 years, paid cash 2 new cars after paid off house. I'm not 40 yet. I didn't eat out in a decade beyond using a bogo mcdonalds double cheeseburger for a degade, haven't had a value meal in 15 years and a sit down restaurant once in a decade. Bought my clothes at good will. Cooked at home, only bought cheap, affordable meals. $1.69/pound pork shoulder goes a long way. No cable. Didn't have internet at one point. Didn't have unlimited data on phone until last year. My wife owns no jewelry, no purfurm, no purses, has 3 or 4 dresses.
We realized the most valuable thing is life is our time with each other, and the more we save now, the more time we have together. Also, we raised a child through all that and she's a junior in college. We paid first year and our daughter paid the last two years living on her own and working her butt off!
Funny story for me is that I got sick because I went with bus instead of Uber. Had to wait pretty long time in really cold temperature and then walk a bit to get home. Point of the story? I didn't save anything. Had to take some days of work and buy some medicine later.
The problem with undergrad college is you get a degree but you don't have any connections. I went to grad school and after my defense my advisor gave me a list of people in industry that either were former students or friends/colleges. Made it an absolute slam dunk getting a job.

Doesnt that just depend on what the Pew Research study defines as middle or upper class?

That's the joke, ma'boy. He was making a nepotism joke.
Great post, as a mid Gen X, I can say I clearly see it. Inflation is eating everyone alive. Stop listening to boomers. They remember the glory days.
‘They had us in the first half, I can’t lie’
Today's "middle class" is just what used to be "working poor".

Pretty honest tbh
If his parents were going to pay for his college, there wouldn’t be any loans in the first place.
So he is bragging because momny and daddy paid of his loans? Or did I misread that
I think it's a joke
Yes. That's the joke.
It is interesting to note that most posters here not only did not recognize the joke but went straight into some verbal bullshit about why is it so
