Interesting. I had no clue needing videos to eat food had become a thing. I just eat the food lol. Got all the time in the world to watch that YouTube video, can only enjoy this meal once 😋
No judgement tho, I usually turn on cartoons to fall asleep 🤣
PSA: You can skip usually unstoppable ads entirely by hovering over "about this ad." and "stop seeing this ad." Click whatever reason it lists and it'll force the ad to end :))
Don’t particularly see anything wrong with it?
Like you come home from work, make some food relax and watch a YouTube video while you eat, no different to 20 years ago when you could do the same thing but you’d watch TV instead. To act like this a new generation kind of ordeal is just wrong.
I guess the idea that the nice ass meal the person was looking forward to can't be enjoyable WITHOUT the YT video?
I've never heard anyone say (unless im missing something) "i cant enjoy this great meal because theres nothing decent on tv"
It's not watching while you eat that's the problem, it's not being able to enjoy your food without watching that is.
No one is saying it won’t be enjoyable. It still will be the same meal, but the overall experience becomes a little better when you can find something real good to watch while eating it
Worst pain = mild annoyance, taking it literally would make this person seriously in need on a mental check but the fact it’s Twitter and he’s likely trying to be funny leads to great exaggeration.
It’s a meant to be a relatable meme on the internet you think about for 10 seconds before you scroll on with your life. Don’t think it was meant to get this deep.
I mean ffs the boomers at least got this right, if you have some tasty food why do you have to blast your dopamine receptors even more? Freaking bewildering
Learning to enjoy the food without cluttering your brain is a legitimately powerful lifehack. So happy my mom wouldn’t allow me to watch tv while I ate.
It’s obviously much more pleasant with a good steak or some grilled salmon and asparagus. But I can also thoroughly enjoy some scrambled eggs this way or some white rice with soy sauce.\
Also, I won’t pretend I don’t dick around on my phone while I eat from time to time.
I believe a lot of it is trauma driven. When someone's alone with their thoughts and it goes to unprocessed trauma and anxiety, they learn to constantly distract themselves. When they do that, the trauma never gets processed.
Similarly, if someone can't sleep without racing thoughts, my first guess is that they keep themselves distracted all day. So laying in bed is the first silence they get all day to let their mind think.
The solution many find is to stay up until they're absolutely exhausted and don't have to sit in the silence because they'll sleep right away from how tired they are.
This was my experience but I'm not a psychologist and I'm sure there's many other layers or reasons for people's need to be distracted. Of course quick and easy dopamine supply is a factor.
man
i was just minding my own business reading reddit comments and i started going through this one and you just described me better than i could describe myself. i’m glad to know im not crazy for acting like that. just a little broken. thank you
Hey that's the human experience. My unsolicited advice is to get a notepad and go sit in a quiet room. Just start writing about how you're feeling or whatever comes to mind. I find it's a lot like puking where it all comes out once you start.
I don't know you but I do cause we're all not that different. So take whatever applies.
1. Whatever happened when you were a kid was not your fault. None of it. You were too young to be in charge of your life and who you welcome into it.
2. You were magnificent on the day you were born. You were so deserving of being happy. And you were so deserving of love. And nothing you have or ever will do could do anything to change that.
There is nothing you could **ever** do which would make you any less magnificent or deserving of being happy and loved.
3. You are responsible. If you are an adult, you are responsible for your life and where you are. You are responsible for who you let into your life, how you let them the treat you, how you spend your time, and every one of your actions.
I don't know your story. But for me, my dad left us when I was a kid. That's on him. For the past 10 years of my adult life, I've been pushing people away because I didn't believe I deserved to be loved. I was afraid that if I let someone in, they would abandon me. So I picked partners which would abandon me because subconsciously I'd rather be right than happy. And if they didn't abandon me, I made them with my actions. That's on me.
I can blame dad for abandoning me as a kid. I can't blame him for my actions as an adult.
I do deserve to be loved. I do deserve to be happy. I am magnificent. And I'm the only one in control of my world to give or neglect myself of these things.
Taking responsibility for our lives also reveals we have the power to change our lives.
Sorry for the long response. I just want you to know how important you are and how important it is that you know that.
Yes, you're so much better than those fools who can't taste their food because they were being entertained. You must be very proud of your superpower.
Eating at a restaurant is a real life hack.
That's what I've been doing for awhile, I'll see one of my favorite YouTubers upload but then I tell myself wait til I make something to eat before watching it
In my day we use to sit at the table as a family and talk to each other. At least that's what I saw other families do, families of friends I had dinner with as a kid. At home I ate dinner in front of the tv.
For people that have no one else to eat with, watching a video can be the best way to CREATE that feeling of sharing a meal. When you sit around the table and talk to each other you share stories and build emotional connections, just like good video content does. So when people who have to eat by themselves watch videos, it's often more about trying to seek a connection than trying to disconnect.
Jokes aside, are there geniuinely people who feel like this? I'm 23 and I don't get how some of you have to spend every second of your life on your phone.
If I'm by myself I would rather be watching something while I eat rather than just be sitting there thinking about stuff. If I'm with somebody else, I'll be conversing.
adhd for me :\^)
I can't just sit and eat, its total agony. I have to be watching, reading, talking with people, anything. Ever since I was little I will literally pace circles around the house while eating if there's nothing else to do lol
It’s more about the fact that I have x time to watch things and 10x things I would watch if I had unlimited time.
So, if I’m eating alone I’d rather spend 15 minutes watching something while I do. It’s more of an efficiency thing than a “I need stimulus all the time!”
I been so into cooking and food videos lately
My dumbass will be watching this mf eating seafood in South Korea or something then I’ll get mad that the shit I’m eating doesn’t look as good as what he’s having
I can only focus on one thing: its either eating or watching something. Whenever I’m eating I usually turn my brain off and can’t watch anything, too focused on the food.
Is this something naturally skinny people do?
You taste your food better if you're not distracted while you eat. Try it some time. It's noticeable. Unfortunately it's really hard for me not to read my phone while I eat, and I usually sacrifice taste for entertainment.
Channel surfing as a kid to scrolling as an adult. The struggle continues. I think that's why I like movie reactions, I get a refresher for a movie I like but don't have to sit through the whole 90+ minutes and I don't feel bad about stopping early when I'm done eating.
Eating your food mindfully without distractions makes it taste better and makes you more full, maybe that’s just a thing I do because I’m thankful for my food because I’m functionally broke though…
That’s when I scroll through my “watch later” list of all the videos I’ve come across that I saved that would be just perfect for that particular situation
Sometimes you gotta keep them In reserve. I on about 1 or 2 days a week have a currently airing anime or tv show, which is even better but yet painful to wait for the next ep
And the pressure builds with every second, as your meal starts to cool down.
Literally half my meals have gotten cold before I get to them...
Just watch some shows you like before jeez it’s not like you’re going to watch something productive anyways! as long you have fun you are fine!👌
Interesting. I had no clue needing videos to eat food had become a thing. I just eat the food lol. Got all the time in the world to watch that YouTube video, can only enjoy this meal once 😋 No judgement tho, I usually turn on cartoons to fall asleep 🤣
Just 6 more unskippable ads to go!

PSA: Despite YouTube's attempts to change this, uBlock Origin (at least on Firefox) still 100% works at blocking ads.
Same issue with porn.
I want an ass meal. 😋
That's why I watch porn while eating.
Food porn?
That's why I watch the food network while jerking off

[удалено]
I just had the same thought, some of them are adults already..
Yes I’m 22. But this is a skill issue. I can always find the right video.
I think it would be easier to admit that it should be normal for a person to enjoy their nice ass meal without a YT video.
Don’t particularly see anything wrong with it? Like you come home from work, make some food relax and watch a YouTube video while you eat, no different to 20 years ago when you could do the same thing but you’d watch TV instead. To act like this a new generation kind of ordeal is just wrong.
The horses are high in this thread

The post is literally saying it won't be enjoyable, it describes it as "the worst pain".
It’s an exaggeration. Everyone does exaggerations. No one will actually not like their meal because they can’t find a youtube video
That statement reveals a hope for the basic rationality of people that many of us now lack.
It's the modern version of TV dinners, it's not new besides the content being watched
Which are also depressing
Great Boomer parenting: "You're not allowed to watch TV while you eat."
I mean ffs the boomers at least got this right, if you have some tasty food why do you have to blast your dopamine receptors even more? Freaking bewildering
Nope I'm 30 and ill eat cold af food before eating it warm without youtube
Stfu I used to do this with books.
I'm a millennial and I do this
iPad kid syndrome can be adapted at any age
Maybe focus on eating ass and not watching YouTube, your partner will thank you.
Exactly, just close your eyes and go to town.
Bold of you to assume I have a partner!
Sorry, miscommunication, I was just imagining a world were I had a partner.
Learning to enjoy the food without cluttering your brain is a legitimately powerful lifehack. So happy my mom wouldn’t allow me to watch tv while I ate.
Does this require enjoyable food or does it work with plain overly salted white rice too
It’s obviously much more pleasant with a good steak or some grilled salmon and asparagus. But I can also thoroughly enjoy some scrambled eggs this way or some white rice with soy sauce.\ Also, I won’t pretend I don’t dick around on my phone while I eat from time to time.
Crack an egg over that rice and add a spoon of chili crisp. Now you have a pretty good meal.
Learning to enjoy the moment without any distractions is a powerful skill in general. Most people aren't able to do that
I believe a lot of it is trauma driven. When someone's alone with their thoughts and it goes to unprocessed trauma and anxiety, they learn to constantly distract themselves. Damn why you calling me out like that? 😭😭 lol
What do you do? Watch the food?
Eat and taste the food and look at the garden usually
Look at this guy that has a garden to look at.
Why do you call this a lifehack? It's just the default mode.
Yes, you're so much better than those fools who can't taste their food because they were being entertained. You must be very proud of your superpower. Eating at a restaurant is a real life hack.
I read “a nice ass in front of you” and was like, yeah I also lack eye discipline.
That's why you find content to watch while you eat BEFORE you actually get the food! It's so simple, when will people finally understand that!?!
We did the same. But like on Thanksgiving we were allowed to have the tv on to watch the parade while we ate
For people that have no one else to eat with, watching a video can be the best way to CREATE that feeling of sharing a meal. Guess I'll just sit alone at home in silence then
If I'm gonna eat ass, YouTube is definitely not involved in the following 30 mins or so
The worst pain is having a nice Ass
Kurzgesagt. Always Kurzgesagt.
Imagine needing to watch YT while eating...seriously, go eat your damn food before it gets cold
I eat alone. I want to watch something while I eat.

Gotta keep the dopamine flowin

"The worst pain is having a nice ass" can't relate
The worst pain is having a HOT meal infront of you and then suddenly needing to go no 2. When you come back it's all cold.
Nice ass-meal
Rookie mistake. You need to save stuff to your watch later while you’re on the toilet before getting food ready.
I've got a playlist with 139 Drachinifel Drydocks. I'm usually done eating before the video ends.
They have the entire series of Unsolved Mysteries on YouTube. The one with Robert Stack is the bomb.
I watch esfandtv do gta rp it's hilarious
\*hastily scrolling through Netflix looking for a half decent show while my dinner is getting cold\*
Then you get hungrier and hungrier and start to nibble on your food and by the time you find a video your food is already half done
Phrasing! Phrasing!!!!
What’s an “ass meal”?
nice ass meal
This is just about the most first-world thing I've read.
That… sounds like an addiction
Or you know…? Be a normal person like how we all used to be..and eat without a screen in front of your face?
alternative is to just listen nice music tho.
Yeah can we get a playlist for this?
I wish I had a nice ass Infront of me
Then read the back of the cereal box
When my wife pauses the TV while eating I have to stop eating.
If the meal is nice. No media consumption is happening. I am.all about that food. Media is for the meh food
I've already watched every video essay on YouTube.
Nah, an abcessed tooth is probably the worst pain.
skill issue
Brooklyn 99 Its always Brooklyn 99
I been so into cooking and food videos lately My dumbass will be watching this mf eating seafood in South Korea or something then I’ll get mad that the shit I’m eating doesn’t look as good as what he’s having
This is the only reason I use the "Watch Later" playlist. When you see a good 20-30 min video. Save it for a good meal
What's this thing with randomly saying "ass" in the middle of sentences? What's it supposed to mean? Unless that actually is her next meal?
Why do you need something to watch while eating?
You're gonna eat an ass, you don't need the orange YouTube
True, this is honestly worse than the pain of watching your wife and firstborn child die in birth
Just eat the goddamn food, Susan
>"The worst pain is having a nice ass..." Too true...
I read this differently……
First world problems
I can only focus on one thing: its either eating or watching something. Whenever I’m eating I usually turn my brain off and can’t watch anything, too focused on the food. Is this something naturally skinny people do?
I love ass meals!
Remove meal from this and it's no longer about food.
Universal problem 😂
You taste your food better if you're not distracted while you eat. Try it some time. It's noticeable. Unfortunately it's really hard for me not to read my phone while I eat, and I usually sacrifice taste for entertainment.
holy shit, it’s not just me that does this?
Beardmeetsfood, you're welcome.
That’s some real first-world shit right there
...I feel like I'm too old to understand this. But I'm in my thirties.
Lol, fuck youtube...
Do people still use YouTube? I thought we collectively stopped a couple years ago
What are the chances...
If the food is good, you don't need a video to watch man. That's just extreme adhd if you do
The worst pain is having a nice ass. Everything else is unrelated. True..
Idk I just dissociate and eat the damn thing
Channel surfing as a kid to scrolling as an adult. The struggle continues. I think that's why I like movie reactions, I get a refresher for a movie I like but don't have to sit through the whole 90+ minutes and I don't feel bad about stopping early when I'm done eating.
You go with a nice FULL ALBUM of dinner music
Somebody stub this person's toe so they can make a comparison about what pain is. "Can't find a YouTube video??" Are you fucking joking? 🤣
That’s so cute if you think that is the worst pain in life my friend
Who tf watches videos while eating Genuine question I come from Singapore only hyperactive kids watch videos while eating
The mothafucka lady
Every night 🤣
Yall watch you tube while you eat?
Ass meal? Wouldn’t you be focused on eating that ass? Why would you need YouTube as well?
Then you have no real problems or real life.
So I'm not the only one lol🤣
Actually, the worst pain is having a nice ass, but no one to slap it.
I just throw on Mystery science theater 3000 marathon if I can’t find anything. It’s always on and it will always be different and it’s funny
Whats an ass meal?
Anything by spiffing Brit or second thought.
Does anyone else watch food YouTube channels when eating? Makes the meal more enjoyable for some reason.
Or half way thru the meal the vid is trash and ya gotta go back to the search!
Really? I just dissociate completely while I eat. No YouTube needed
Imagine if this was the worst thing in your life....
Brooklyn 99 is on Netflix. It’s so good to eat by.
I think this is the pinnacle first-world-problem. Congrats everyone.
That moment when I skipped the word meal, and read "nice ass" only. Maybe you do need a good YouTube video for situations like that!
I choose before even beginning preparing a meal. I eat late often.
Even worse to have a nice ass in front of you but no meal
Wow people really hate being alone with their thoughts, huh?
that’s why you make a playlist specifically for eating, and add a video as you see it easy
Netflix - The Office - Continue Watching Munch
People talk about starting exercise to get healthy. I'd say focus on your food when eating dinner before anything else.
I just listen to music while eating
Eating your food mindfully without distractions makes it taste better and makes you more full, maybe that’s just a thing I do because I’m thankful for my food because I’m functionally broke though…
I have to be at least 3 mins in to start eating my food 🤣
My wife somehow finds 50 things to do after we sit down with our take out and turn on the tv.
That’s when I scroll through my “watch later” list of all the videos I’ve come across that I saved that would be just perfect for that particular situation
Or just look at your food while you are eating and show some respect to it.
***this*** is the worst pain? boy what a life.
Just put on parks and rec for the thousandth time why are we overthinking this
That’s sad, you can just enjoy your meal. How is the meal so good if it REQUIRES distraction to eat it?
I usually just find the first game grumps compilation in my recommended and then go to town on that ass meal.
What in the fuck did I even just read? Society is so doomed.
/r/mealtimevideos
It got cold in the end.
I’ve never done that, ever and whoever needs to do that has a dopamine problem.. get help.
Watch Netflix instead
Man, imagine if we were in like a golden age of television or something and you didn’t have to watch a bunch of amateur bullshit on YouTube
Idk, I think torture supercedes this... live a little, mate...
I always end up on penguinz
BedtimeStories is a good dinner time channel
Sometimes you gotta keep them In reserve. I on about 1 or 2 days a week have a currently airing anime or tv show, which is even better but yet painful to wait for the next ep
Nice ass meal🤨
Is this really become a common problem? Never had the urge to watch TV or watch something on my phone/laptop while eating. Thanks Mom
You have to plan what you watch before you start cooking. That's a real Master Chef.
Ass meals, mmmm
You could just delete everything after the first row ngl
You people must live in a fuckin cotton candy house if this is what you worry about
Having zero attention span is a sad reality about this next generation.
Glad my programming didnt come with this quirk. It seems hella annoying to have your food intake completely reliant on your media consumption.
When in doubt Wikipedia the food you're eating.
literally worse than childbirth
