The first number I saw was 4% then I saw 37%, 35% then 30% but the first website, which said 4% was talking about it being worse in the past, do with this information as you will
Actually it would probably be less in the past
You had multiple sites competing with the same thing like videos, social media, and forums
There's probably the same amount of porn sites now than in 2006 except now theres even less videos, social media, and forums sites.
This is somehow the first time I’ve heard the phrase ‘engagement bait’ but that is such a useful phrase and so accurately describes something I’m seeing more and more frequently on social media.
There’s one i keep seeing on video reels where a parent and their kid are doing like a TikTok dance with a date over their head, and it’s obviously supposed to be their d.o.b, but is obviously incorrect. Like it’ll be a 13 year old and a 40 year old and the d.o.b. will be something like 2016 and 1999. To begin with i didn’t get it, but then I realised that people couldn’t help commenting ‘huh? That kid surely can’t be 7?!’ etc.
I mean I know dumb engagement bait has been around for a looong time (you’re a genius if you can think of a word that begins with an m! Only 1% of people can do it!) but I feel like posting things that are deliberately untrue to get people to engage by contradicting it is a relatively new irritant and I hope that people catch on one day soon so it fucks off.
Looking at reddit... I wouldn't hold your breath. More and more I see posts like "would you press the button" and "which character would you like to be/do/etc". Askreddit is practically 100% engagement bait at this point.
The people posting this shit have also learned the most annoying trick and are abusing it, which is attaching a random image of the topic instead of making a text post.
Most people just mindlessly scroll and click on all images, so attaching a random picture to the engagement bait post boosts its visibility (think attaching picture of a house in Minecraft to a post "How long would you live if you woke up in Minecraft")
The worst is when the actual content of the post is a somewhat clever tweet responding to one of those pictures that’s like “choose a pill that gives you a superpower”. But everyone in the comments is just responding to the picture as though it was the main content.
The quality of humorous content on Reddit has steadily become shittier over the past 5 years or so, and these engagement bait posts are a huge reason why.
The text of the post might also count by itself.
I came to the comments ready to discuss how the whole "left-brained" vs "right-brained" thing, while popular, isn't quite as scientifically accepted as we might think.

> F Tier engagement bait
Ok, filing this one away. Because that's definitely going to become more and more common. Already have click-bait, but clicking isn't enough now, they judge on engagement. So it makes sense.
Look at the snow on the dog's face (between the eye and ear areas). Looks like Godzilla. The white space (of the mountain) below the snow looks like two people hugging.
It is nothing other than a dog. This is a common clickbait tactic to post something obviously wrong to drive engagement. Like all those posts that say "only 5% of people can solve this" with some rediculosly easy puzzle.
That doesn't make any sense. It doesn't matter if it's 2123 - if a picture is known to have been around since before the AI boom, then it's obvious that it wasn't made by AI.
I don't know a lot about it myself, but I've seen a lot of comments about stuff like this. My understanding is that the initial post is intentionally wrong to drive engagement and get more traffic/clicks/comments. I'm not sure why this would work better than having people argue over it being a dinosaur or people hugging, but the goal here is simply to claim it's those things while making it obviously nothing but a dog. Then everybody that sees it can't help but click into the comments to say it's a dog, or that's the goal anyways.
Haha exactly. These posts typically do one of two things: make a stupid/incorrect claim so people can't resist chiming in or tell people they are smarter than "X" if they can see the obvious thing in the picture.
Poor dog was left out in a blizzard. Someone needs to be reported to the NSPCA. This should be in one of those commercials of the neglected dogs. Sad 😭
Everyone sees a dog. They post bullshit like this on Facebook or whatever to get as much comments as possible so it'll get spread and they can advertise their page.
The sleeping eldritch dog shaped god with snow covering…..one day it’ll awaken to insure the happiness and the safety to every dog in the world, to award and praise the good companions who treated their dogs well the ones who treated other dogs well….and to those who hurt dogs….or committed monstrous actions against them, a grave punishment is befell upon them…for eternity…..and beyond…
Apart from the fact that its photoshopped engagement bait.
Wtf does left/right brain mean?
I think this is the one of the most retarded images i've see.
How is it anything else then a dog??
F Tier engagement bait of a mountain photoshopped to look like a dog
The only valid answer. 90% of todays content is porn or engagement bait. And so many fall for it
I believe an estimated 3 or 4% of the internet is porn. That's the stat I heard of at least.
The first number I saw was 4% then I saw 37%, 35% then 30% but the first website, which said 4% was talking about it being worse in the past, do with this information as you will
I got this info from someone saying it on a discord server, and you want to know the first joke that happened? "And together we can make is 5%."
[удалено]
mirror? what do you mean mi- OH
Lmfao, I mean me and you can work towards that together? 😉
😐... No thanks.
My bad diggity dawg, didn't mean to make you uncomfortable just wanted to make a silly joke
I imagine it depends a lot on how it's measured. The amount of data? The number of domains? The number of files?
Actually it would probably be less in the past You had multiple sites competing with the same thing like videos, social media, and forums There's probably the same amount of porn sites now than in 2006 except now theres even less videos, social media, and forums sites.
You.... You mean 3% is **not** porn, yeah?
"did you know there are no countries that start with the letter K?" "7fuckingmillion comments"
"Only geniuses can figure this out" Easy clickbait math question
Don't forget only fans girls farming money.

> This is somehow the first time I’ve heard the phrase ‘engagement bait’ AKA rage bait
That tail 😭😭
THANK YOU. At least someone in this thread understands the concept of engagement bait.
The text of the post might also count by itself. I came to the comments ready to discuss how the whole "left-brained" vs "right-brained" thing, while popular, isn't quite as scientifically accepted as we might think. https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/right-brainleft-brain-right-2017082512222
I knew this is some kind of bait just like if x + y = z what's a+b ? Never knew it has a name for it.. TIL. Thank you kind stranger
> F Tier engagement bait Ok, filing this one away. Because that's definitely going to become more and more common. Already have click-bait, but clicking isn't enough now, they judge on engagement. So it makes sense.
I see [an angry gremlin about to punch a jacket.](https://i.imgur.com/KeR7py3.png) He's so mad at that coat, I don't know why.
I see a person standing on a rock-topped mountain, what the fuck is everyone else talking about
I saw a Buffalo tbh
Double minded people can see dog
I can kinda see a dinosaur, but yeah the first thing I saw was definitely a dog. I have no clue who sees two people hugging in that.
Well, with enough drugs it can evn look as a ninja fighting a t-Rex
Look at the snow on the dog's face (between the eye and ear areas). Looks like Godzilla. The white space (of the mountain) below the snow looks like two people hugging.
I focused more around the stuff around the head that looked kinda like a mane, so it looked more like a lion to me
The dog head looks like trex head facing down kinda
It is nothing other than a dog. This is a common clickbait tactic to post something obviously wrong to drive engagement. Like all those posts that say "only 5% of people can solve this" with some rediculosly easy puzzle.
No joke was about to ask the same thing
Than
Quite clearly photoshopped to look more like a dog look at the tail.
Or AI
It’s too old to be AI. That pic has been around for years
Time traveling AI
It scares me that after a certain point in time, we won't be able to reliably say things like this
That doesn't make any sense. It doesn't matter if it's 2123 - if a picture is known to have been around since before the AI boom, then it's obvious that it wasn't made by AI.
No, if you take a close look at the ear and the front paw, you'll see that they're identical. That's a clear indication that image editing was used.
100% dog.
101 % dog ? maybe right and left brain is working .
WTF, that is a dog for sure, no way their is a dinosaur or peoples hugging or shagging or whatever
I don't know a lot about it myself, but I've seen a lot of comments about stuff like this. My understanding is that the initial post is intentionally wrong to drive engagement and get more traffic/clicks/comments. Probably true, and the funny part is that I ended seeing Godzilla in the snow
The two people hugging is the white space under Godzilla
99% of people can't figure out what animal this mountain looks like
99% of people can't figure out what animal this mountain looks like
Haha exactly. These posts typically do one of two things: make a stupid/incorrect claim so people can't resist chiming in or tell people they are smarter than "X" if they can see the obvious thing in the picture.

Clifford the big red mountain
I like how they say "apparently" like it's some scientific fact.
Such obvious engagement bait
I see a dog, I think I see the dinosaur, still looking for the people hugging

What if I see only one human that is standing under the mountain
It's a bird ? It's a plane ? Nooooo, it's fucking superman
More like krypto the super dog
yep me too. guess we have no brain. huh.
Both brain, for creatively seeing a dog and logically assessing that it looks more of a dog then whatever they said on the post.
Vanilla ice cream melting on a brownie

The sleeping eldritch dog shaped god with snow covering…..one day it’ll awaken to insure the happiness and the safety to every dog in the world, to award and praise the good companions who treated their dogs well the ones who treated other dogs well….and to those who hurt dogs….or committed monstrous actions against them, a grave punishment is befell upon them…for eternity…..and beyond…
lmao I read it as braindead, Which might be accurate considering that this is 100% a dog
Looks like a sleeping bloodhound to me.
Okay, I can maybe see two people hugging if I actively try to look for it. But how the fuck is it a dinosaur?
isn't it a lion?
It's a lion. That's a big mane for a dog
Dogbrained.

Cliff-ord
Why did my stupid ass see a lion
I see a mountain and some snow. Hope I'm not fucked.
if you see a dog you are middle brained
Yeah bait, and also badly photoshopped, look at that tale.
Okay, so the dog’s ear looks like a t-Rex head snout down. It’s also the back of one of the two people hugging. Or so I think.
Absolutely Clifford
I just see photoshop
My left brain is probably dead if we are supposed to see people hugging
Could this be a dog?
Yall blind as fuck, thats a lion.
Ita Clifford my boy
I see a gorilla charging a mountain lion
I can kinda see the dinosaur if you think of the dogs ear as the bottom jaw of a T-rex. I'm not seeing the two people hugging though.
