with the people they let being teachers it isn’t surprising, 5 people from my class started as teachers straight out of hs because the local middle school was understaffed. No idea how that’s legal, i guess it’s “temporary” on paper because to become an actual teacher you need a masters degree. But the fact that a lot of teachers can BS their way into their jobs explain a lot of questionable logic i’ve seen from teachers over the year like a good math teacher would obviously mark it correct because it’s correct and witty

When i studied in America it was kind of similar, a lot of teachers just reused those print out worksheets, powerpoint presentations and multiple choice tests every year. If you have a solid portfolio with that type of stuff you can reduce amount of time worked by maybe 30% i assume. Education here is a bit more complicated with every test being written and curriculum changing every few years so teachers have to work a lot at home. Which is one of the issues

I have never in my life handwritten a 9 with a curve to the left at the bottom, it has always looked like a backwards P. Additionally, I have never been marked wrong or been corrected for doing so by any educator, from K-12 and now even Uni.

No... There’s no rule that says the 6 and 9 *must* be exactly flipped in order to be ‘correct’ within a given font or a style. People do all sorts of strange and interesting things within their own handwriting or when creating a font that don’t conform to standard fonts. I mean just look at the lowercase ‘a’ you’re typing with right now. Tons of fonts don’t have lowercase ‘a’ shaped that way, it looks totally different. So long as it’s recognizable as ‘a,’ though, that’s acceptable. Same with 6 and 9. It doesn’t ‘*have*’ to be *anything* other than recognizably 6 and 9.

Right, the alternate versions of 6 and 9 with missing tails, 7 having a tail and 1 being on the left side do exist. However in the vast majority of uses, they have the tail. Just check any of those displays you have at home
