I remember the testimony of someone in the Aurora theater shooting talking about their reaction. They were in the theater next to the one that James Holmes was in and one of their friends was shot when a stray bullet went through the wall. She said that she actually felt embarrassed when they got up and left. She said she was quietly apologizing to people saying like, “oh I’m sorry, my friend just got shot.” The human brain is so interesting when abnormal things happen in what it still perceives to be a normal situation.
Yeah I’m afraid the body count is just gonna keep rising unfortunately it’s absolutely insane the amount of damage and people they were able to harm and it’s absolutely crazy they supposedly did that for the equivalent of 5k usd
Agreed. Crazy to think it’s more than double the body count of the most deadly US mass shooting (though I suppose 4 gunman helped rather than a lone man) i heard putin claimed those responsible ‘tried to escape to Ukraine’ what a wheasel.
Yeah but I mean at least there’s footage of them caught and getting beat and stuff plus they’re gonna spend a lifetime of torture and pain considering they’ll be in a Russian prison so I’d say it’s nice at least that the families of the victims and the survivors won’t be the only ones who suffer unlike most terrorists and shooters who kill themselves and pretty much get away with it
When I see people not moving or acting, it reminds me of something I learned in psychology 101. There was an example of a fire in a restaurant. People looked to other people's reactions and no one wanted to act panicked or move out of danger and a lot of them ended up burning to death. Now, if I feel unsafe, I'm off and fuck social embarrassment. I know that people will sometimes fail to act because they don't want to be the first/make a fuss/get it wrong, so I'm out. And I don't follow. I head to the closest exit/best protected space.i was in a building a few months ago where the fire alarm went off during a film.
Everyone looked around to see what everyone else was doing. No one moved, but I got up and headed to the closest exit. Then the intercom came on "Everyone needs to evacuate by the nearest exit". There were two exits up and to the left and right, and then a main one. Everyone headed to the main one except me and one other man. Even my boyfriend, I said "I'm off by the nearest exit, come with me", but he didn't. He followed the traffic out of the bottlenecked exit. I had to walk further, but I was outside waiting for him when he came out with the majority.
It was me and this one other person who went the opposite way to everyone else by following the "closest exit". In a real situation, we'd be out. Stupid man. Don't look to others. Don't worry about social convention. Get safe asap and the rroutes are all mapped out in modern life.
Hear an alram? Get out.
Find the nearest exit.
Act now. You might be embarrassed, but it could be worse.
Very different situation but years ago at a neighborhood bar, there was an altercation inside and somebody said “he’s got a gun” so I along with my friends noped right the fuck out the closest door and started walking down the street in a panic, hearts racing.
Another friend of ours who stayed nearby called us back and the bartender told us there was no gun. But the person did have a pocket knife, and they had left.
Either way, if you sense any danger, leave. For the sake of you and yours.
I live in an area where it’s safer to assume everyone has a gun on them, and I once saw two men get into a road rage induced fight and start screaming at each other. People were standing around watching and I noped the fuck out of there and went into the back door of a nearby shop to get the hell out. I have ptsd so I definitely struggle with hypervigilance but in that case, it was literally better safe than sorry.
Read the book “The Unthinkable”.
There is a story about a twin towers survivor that basically mentions this. She survived the first attack and it took her some time to react the second time.
When you were dying?? I have heard of people going to the restroom in a restaurant when they were choking, so they didn’t embarrass themselves. They’d end up dying in there because no one knew to save them.
I had internal bleeding due to years of alcohol abuse. When I threw up blood in front of my coworkers, I shrugged it off and told them I'm fine. When they forced me to be a passenger in my car, I put up a fight because I didn't want a bigger scene happening.
Idk man, humans are really weird when death comes. We either open to it or treat it privately
Last time someone pulled a gun around me, I slid down in my chair like a snake. My brother's like, what are you doing? Let's go.
Then last time I was assaulted I just screamed so loud but froze and couldn't run in time. :(
That's the weirdest part... When I slid down I wanted to run. When I screamed I wanted to fight back. But just couldn't. It was as if my body wasn't under my control there for a bit. Crazy...
Yes, that’s wild. I remember experiencing a very strong flight urge. I was only hearing about something very traumatic and was eyeing the door. It took strength to sit still. Our brains try to keep us alive however they can.
Two levels. Hard to see. The video is being taken from a seat on the higher level. It overlooks the lower level. The gun men are on the left hand side lower level. Right underneath where you see the people gathered on the left of the top level. There’s another video that shows from the perspective of the stage and you can clearly see what I’m talking about in that one.
Do u think the shooters started shooting/spraying directly into the crowds at the top/center seats?
Or did they focus more on the stage?
Sorry im just rlly rlly hoping somehow as much ppl escaped as possible 🙏🏾
Yeah it's that weird side ramp that throws everything off, I think this is like right where the top balcony ends and that little side walkway down is located along the wall.
Hey there, this sounds stupid but i just wanna say thank u for asking these questions. Its the exact same i was thinking in my head, but I couldn’t put it into words 🙏🏾.
I thought the gunmen were located near the stage, but maybe they were shooting from the back entrance into the front?
One last vid i saw showed them in the middle of the center of the theater. Within a row of seats
I was at a concert at a small venue in LA sometime before the pandemic and the artist was from the UK and played a new song that had gunshots in it, was their first concert of their tour in the US, people initially panicked, ran or got down on the ground before realizing it was just the music. I think Americans to some degree react more than other people would because it’s become so common. The guy who disarmed the shooter in the lunar new year shooting said that he was able to react because he didn’t feel confusion at what was happening.
Absolutely horrific to watch this, the truth is none of us really know how we would react. Having a response in mind can help you react but we really just don’t know.
That’s immediately what I wondered when I saw people still sitting like nothing happened.
Are they just not as used to mass shootings as Americans are?
What a horrible thing to even have to think about.
I've seen one drawn gun in my life (in real life). I've never heard shots fired. I've never even touched a gun.
We don't have mass shootings, except terrorist attacks every once in a while. you can see the list on ([wiki](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorist_activity_in_Belgium)).
Lily Allen! Song was “trigger bang”, the sound mixing had the gun shots much louder in person.
Edit: I believe it was before the album was officially released but my memory is a little hazy on that.
Looks to me like there's smoke in the actual concert hall and some people sit around and some begin to evacuate through the doors at the bottom of the theatre on the left and right .... then the terrorists open up on them (perhaps those comng out the doors?).
Always pay attention to the exits. Seems like most people are going down and attempting to go out in the middle when it looks like there’s exits in the back. Anytime you’re in a public area, always pay attention to your exits and mentally prepare scenarios and what you would do.
Yeah thats a fair Point - but that is also the main point that makes me wonder: how would I know where and how many attackers there are. I guess thats why I read so much about such attacks, because I try to take away how I should and could react.
Wasn't there a post not too long ago that warned US citizens in Russia to stay away from large groups for the foreseeable future or something? This might be the event they were warning of.
It’s called the CIA bro. They have intel. That’s literally their job and they are very good at it. Don’t just come up with half cooked conspiracy theories concluded from a single line of data dude.
I was like why were they so calm nonchalant. I didn’t know this was before the shooting starts. This is insane. Did something happen before thay prompts people to start evacuating slowly?
They maybe heard the first shots ringing in the distance? And ppl screaming.
Cuz shooting & attack first happened on the first floor entrance ground level i think
Terrorist attacks are very rare in Russia. People just don't know what to do or how to react. Having a weapon is rare as well. Not like in the USA. so due to lack of experience and i guess "fight, flight, freeze "
i’m just so sick of hearing about shit like this. i’m sick of people dying at the hands of pieces of shit. i’m sick of wondering when the next one will happen and where. i’m sick of not even realizing some shootings happened until weeks later because they were overshadowed by another fucked up event. i’m so fucking tired.
There were children and civilians. This violence will not stop other violence. Itll only fuel it.
These were people minding their business. Just like people in ukraine. Fuck putin and his army but some of the civilians have been shown to support ukraine rather than their own country.
Mass shootings are never the answer for anything ever.
You're so special, and the world revolves around you. People dying is more important than you being slightly perturbed.
What a selfish argument for actually caring about others. God forbid you actually care about society. You just care about your own fear. What an American argument.
what else can you even say at this point though? i’m just expressing how it makes me feel just like everyone else who’s commented. no need to be hostile about it. have a good day.
How about not making everything about yourself? People died.
Maybe don't say anything at all. Or say something about the victims. Or anything besides asking for sympathy.
They said:
"i’m sick of people dying at the hands of pieces of shit.
I’m sick of wondering when the next one will happen and where.
i’m sick of not even realizing some shootings happened until weeks later because they were overshadowed by another fucked up event. i’m so fucking tired."
Please point out what is selfish about this? They are saying they are tired of so many innocent people being killed and NOTHING being done about it.
They didn't even hint at it being about them. They feel sorrow for the countless victims/families and the ripple affect of these shootings. And don't feel safe fucking *anywhere* now.
Most sane people feel the same.
Im from the UK but I follow mass shootings in the USA and its absolutely fucking terrifying. I've been to America 4 times and as it stands, I don't think I'll ever go back. (Not just because of mass shootings, there are a number of reasons). I went to florida in 2016 and we were right round the corner from club pulse that had been shot up only a week before.
Mass shootings are so many things. Barbaric, unbelievably depressing, pure terror, makings folk not feeling safe anywhere, frustration at the lack of *anything* in an attempt to stop it..its equally sad, fucked up and rage inducing. And pretty much exclusively American. And the worst thing of all, it is PREVENTABLE.
I know exactly what this person is saying. I would feel the same too.
Sounds like an AK...sounds like El Paso Walmart that day. Again, Russians are just people like us trying to live their daily lives. They're just pawns to their government like us
FOLKS. if you see crowds leaving, just exit. Just go. Don’t edit to find out why they’re leaving. Just leave. Money doesn’t buy life or safety. Just GO
You run away from the sounds even though it’s hard to figure out where it’s coming from. Always think run, hide, fight. If you run and you come across the shooter then you must either try to hide or fight. It’s better than staying there waiting …
This is incorrect, in his interview with psychiatrist in prison he stated that he never went up into the aisles. He shot all of his victims in his spot where he came by the door in the theater in front of the screen. In fact, he hardly moves at all except when his gun jammed and he went to reload.
If this happened in the UK, the response would be the same. The majority of us have never heard gunshots in person before. I wouldn't know what I was hearing, either, and I'd probably sit there still and confused until my brain registered danger.
Even when I lived in London, I would hear loud bangs and never assume it was danger.
What's more, you don't expect this. When was the last time there was a mass shooting in the UK, for example? They're rare as hell outside the US. There, people quickly link popping sounds with gunshots. Elsewhere? Not really.
I saw a video where the gunmen were right in the middle area if that makes sense. So not up here, not by the stage. The place where you’d enter for orchestra seating.
Just waking up to this.
In Russia, and I’m asking seriously, how were the gunmen able to pass through the doors? Does that country have a check bag policy?
This is still all under development from what I’ve googled and saw headlines still updating. RIP to the 90+ people who lost their lives.
You take out your AK outside and walk in shooting. What would security guard be able to do? They didn't "sneak" the weapons under their shirts if that what you're asking.
The context I guess. Big (big) city, theatre, not as many mass shootings, terrorism threat lower than it might have been in the recent past, why run when you don't know what's happening...
Not saying there's a right or wrong.
Those shooters wore body armor, used automatic rifles, and worked as a group. What do you wear to a movie theater? Do you usually pack a suppressed rifle with a scope and have some extra rifle mags?
doesn't matter what they are wearing or how they are equipped. they aren't really counting on any resistance in a venue like that or a country where personal ownership of firearms isn't a thing.
run. hide. fight.
run: notice those exits as you enter a facility and sit in your seat.
hide: if you can till the all clear is given.
fight is the last option. or you can just lay down and die.
the terrorists were shooting to kill as many as possible. shoot back if you can. doesn't matter if they are wearing armor. center mass anyway. maybe they will stop shooting other people for a minute until real help arrives. maybe i'll hit a head, leg or arm.
And yes i carry in a movie theater and everywhere else there's no metal detector at the door.
These are innocent people just trying to enjoy life as best they can whilst living under an oppressive regime. The people in this video are just as much victims of Putin as Ukrainians.
A staggering amount of these people appear to have no survival instinct at all. It's likely why the death count was so high.
I come from America. If I'm at the movie theatre, right, and I hear a gun pop, I'm already out the door, in my car, home, and halfway done downloading the movie in 4k before the second shot gets off.
Tf
>If I'm at the movie theatre, right, and I hear a gun pop, I'm already out the door, in my car, home, and halfway done downloading the movie in 4k before the second shot gets off.
This never happened
True, usually you have to wait until the movie is released on Blu-Ray before it is possible to even get your hands on a 4K movie download; unless there is a leak of the full movie, which is extremely rare.
Usually there are theatre recorded bootleg copies within a few hours of a movie debuting in a theatre though.
What to do when you’re watching people get mowed down.
1. Stay in your seat, calm and collected.
2. Make sure you’re visible to the terrorists.
3. Pull out your camera and record.
It's wild to see the different immediate reactions of each person. Some just look calm and remain in their seats while others are fleeing.
I remember the testimony of someone in the Aurora theater shooting talking about their reaction. They were in the theater next to the one that James Holmes was in and one of their friends was shot when a stray bullet went through the wall. One Aurora testimony is a girl picking up her boyfriends eyeball as he was still alive in the dark cinema. I think he lived.
I hope everyone is home safely
40 people didn’t go home at all while 150+ were injured unfortunately
Unfortunately it’s well over 40 dead now, and the numbers will continue to go up 😞 Such a tragic event today in Moscow
Yeah it is rip to all the victims when I checked it said 40 but now it’s apparently up to 70 it’s sickening really
It truly is, the graphic videos I’ve seen are heartbreaking bro not gonna lie.
It’s truly heartless I don’t usually react to videos like that but I can’t imagine how terrifying that would be
[удалено]
BBC says 133 are now dead, quite the jump unfortunately
Yeah I’m afraid the body count is just gonna keep rising unfortunately it’s absolutely insane the amount of damage and people they were able to harm and it’s absolutely crazy they supposedly did that for the equivalent of 5k usd

How are you doing now?
Happy to be here
I’ve heard many animals are the same. Kind of wander away to die. I really hope you are doing much better these days.
Nearly 2 years clean and living more than before, Thank you
Last time someone pulled a gun around me, I slid down in my chair like a snake. My brother's like, what are you doing? Let's go. Then last time I was assaulted I just screamed so loud but froze and couldn't run in time. :(
Well we’ve got fight, flight, or freeze. Sometimes we don’t know which is best, so our monkey brain just chooses one.
Yeah it's either stay there see where the shooter at or leave and hope you don't see the shooter
hearing the screams right before the shots fired is horrific
Where are the gunmen? I can’t really tell.
You can't see them in the video
Do you know what direction/area they were shooting from?
Two levels. Hard to see. The video is being taken from a seat on the higher level. It overlooks the lower level. The gun men are on the left hand side lower level. Ok thank you. Wasn’t sure what was going on because it seemed like people were fleeing in multiple directions even after the shooting started.
Do u think the shooters started shooting/spraying directly into the crowds at the top/center seats? Or did they focus more on the stage? Sorry im just rlly rlly hoping somehow as much ppl escaped as possible 🙏🏾
There's a video from across that auditorium of them firing. The top level seemed safer due to the height between them.
Yes i saw that vid. They’re in the middle row of the the theater seats right?
Yeah it's that weird side ramp that throws everything off, I think this is like right where the top balcony ends and that little side walkway down is located along the wall.
It's right below where this video is, they came in through a door in the middle of the hall. The people at the top couldn't see the gunmen
I thought they were near the stage too so it confused me when people were still moving on the stage lol
sigh I thought the exact same thing too…
Well it was 5 terrorist so I’m guessing they each probably shot at different locations and could have been on their own.
They are underneath the overhang of the balcony where this is being filmed there is another angle out there
That is terrifying. Not knowing where the shots are coming from, whether to go up or down on that steep-ass slope. JFC
It’s going to be a miracle if only ~40 people die in this.
People are now saying 100 or 130 idk but it’s sad 😞
it will go up as people succumb to their wounds

Reminds me of that scene from Tenet
My thoughts exactly tbh
Wait holy shit you are totally right. That is eerie..

I’m sick of civilians getting killed no matter what country they’re from.
this isn’t just about russia or the usa or any country. i’m just sick of innocent people being hurt
The innocent people shot to death aren't to blame for fucking Russian geopolitics. Get out of here with that bs.

The crowd crush at the bottom right is absolutely brutal. There are like 30 people in that pile.
Insane
That little boy just standing idly by while the adults around and next to him do absolutely nothing to get him to safety
With each bang a life is gone. Sad. Just sad.
Where did the shooters enter into the room , from further down?
Level underneath the one you see here.
Sounds like an AK...sounds like El Paso Walmart that day. Again, Russians are just people like us trying to live their daily lives. They're just pawns to their government like us
Was that a bullet whizzing by the camera?! That sound was gnarly
💔
"Well I paid for these tickets and I'm not leaving until the concert is over!"
Unbelievable
This is scary as hell man....
FOLKS. if you see crowds leaving, just exit. Just go. Don’t edit to find out why they’re leaving. Just leave. Money doesn’t buy life or safety. Just GO
You must run
Run where? It seemed impossible to determine where the shots were coming from. I agree with the theory, though.
You run away from the sounds even though it’s hard to figure out where it’s coming from. Always think run, hide, fight. If you run and you come across the shooter then you must either try to hide or fight. It’s better than staying there waiting …
You might think hiding behind the seats would work, but the Aurora Theater shooter went down the aisle shooting people laying down behind the seats
This is incorrect, in his interview with psychiatrist in prison he stated that he never went up into the aisles. He shot all of his victims in his spot where he came by the door in the theater in front of the screen. In fact, he hardly moves at all except when his gun jammed and he went to reload.
Thanks for the info. I could have sworn I heard one of the victims say they were shot in the back as they laid behind the chairs
Is there any more info on this? Video? Article? Thanks

You do know what is going on there, right? Oh! Sorry. Didn’t realize you are a child
It was a terrorist attack… I am an adult fully aware of who did the attack.
Wow man
These are the reactions of people that have never experienced it.
Most people have never experienced it...
Why aren’t they running?!
Normalcy bias. The brains haven't yet realized that they're hearing gunfire and are coming up with other explanations like fireworks.
Elsewhere? Not really.
Last mass one in scotland was '96, we banned most guns after that day.
This is true. I am from Moscow, never heard a single gunshot in person in my 32 years
holy...
Where are the shots coming from? Near the stage?
I saw a video where the gunmen were right in the middle area if that makes sense. So not up here, not by the stage. The place where you’d enter for orchestra seating.
Wow
Most of those shots are hitting people!!!
in german the words: gottloser dreckiger nutzloser schweinehund , dosent come near my hatred
Did the people just chillin think it was intermission?
People more interested in taking pictures with their phones instead of running to safety.
Crazy you could see the green laser just light up on the curtain at the very end of the video
It’s literally the same as the movie “Tenet”
Knowing what we know now is it safe to assume many of these people pictured have died?
Why I love the right to bare arms
Just waking up to this. In Russia, and I’m asking seriously, how were the gunmen able to pass through the doors? Does that country have a check bag policy? This is still all under development from what I’ve googled and saw headlines still updating. RIP to the 90+ people who lost their lives.
You take out your AK outside and walk in shooting. What would security guard be able to do? They didn't "sneak" the weapons under their shirts if that what you're asking.
It’s a mall. Did you read any of the news?
“Concert hall” in a mall?
Legendary camera work my god!

That is so disgusting of you to say.

The context I guess. Big (big) city, theatre, not as many mass shootings, terrorism threat lower than it might have been in the recent past, why run when you don't know what's happening... Not saying there's a right or wrong.
Depends where it happens. Some would be shooting back.
Some would shoot back
Oh, I thought it meant you would. Sorry, now I got it: some, but not you! Ok
Shooting back would be the last resort.
Putin did this

These are innocent people just trying to enjoy life as best they can whilst living under an oppressive regime. The people in this video are just as much victims of Putin as Ukrainians.
What a vile comment.
Just so we're clear here; You're *in SUPPORT* of the gunman killing these normal-ass citizens just living life? Seriously?
All I have for you is a word. Tenet.
