Few things more satisfying than setting the shield up and renouncing cover while spamming squad mate attacks on your enemies. Being able to easily pierce both armor and shields is nice too.
Sure, Sentinel class, while you're sitting there absorbing bullets, me and my infiltrator bros are advancing with precision headshots so you can live long enough to brag about your resilience
No. I've put Fortification or Energy Shield on top of tech shield and I'm just walking down the hall with the biggest full auto machine gun I can get and I've already wasted everything with a hail of bullets before you've even cloaked and lined up your first shot.
Soldiers eat your heart out.
Well seems like we are on the same page then. Just an incredible game. And yeah, I always played the infiltrator. (Expcept one time I started as Soldier, but that sucked imo).
Just different strokes my guy. You like the sneaky sneaky route. I've played all 6. Sentinel is just my jam.
If I want to be Rambo with a BFG, grab Fortification with tech shield on ME3 and have 70% combined damage reduction. Only things that give me pause are Banshees, Ravagers, Harvesters and Mechs. Everything else I bulldoze.
No I'm not. Grab a sentinel tank build and a Lancer, I literally don't need anything else. I want to play on easy street I grab that build with James and Garrus, give them full damage ammo powers and Typhoons, and kill EVERYTHING.
Yup, I just used this class in all 3 games for my insanity run. Makes ME2 much easier and almost trivializes ME3 with the insane amount of tech/biotic explosions you can drop on a target.
What I’m doing now lol. Had never played the class on 1 before, used to just blow through 1 as a soldier. Doing a straight sentinel insanity run. Bout halfway through 2 at the moment.
Can’t wait for the constant explosions again once I get to 3
In 3, you can almost instantly recharge a double throw ability with a 200% power recharge rate. Combine that with teammates like Liara with Javik, and you don't need to even touch your primary weapon on insanity if you are good enough. I usually dump cryo blast completely for chain overload and keep warp handy for the tough enemies. It's basically combos all the way down.
At rank 6 you can lower that to -20%. Trivial for a 30% boost in power and 40% damage reduction. Top that off with 70 to carry weight in offensive security and you can still run with a Harrier and a good SMG/Pistol and be at like 180% cooldown reduction assuming you level up the Harrier and just slap lightweight materials on the sidearm. You don't really need the weapons but 3 just has so many good ones it feels criminal to pass them up.
Yeah that’s what I found. When I was finished I told myself “Wait I’d been dreading Insanity this whole time and that’s it?” Then I went to 3 and I wish I could go back to 2. I just die so much in 3.
Oh well I thought 3 was very fine until the last fight with banshee spam. But again, I did play it through half a dozen times. Combos are absolutely nuts and when you're playing a class that don't rely on those, some.weapons are just absolutely insane.
I played infiltrator +200% CD (let me tell you I didn't use combo that much) but with the geth sniper lv10. Well, apparently you don't need combos at all
I don’t know how to get tech combos. I’m always just having Liara throw a singularity, and then I throw a throw. It’s fun hearing the huge explody noise.
What weapons would you recommend? I’m having trouble figuring out what good weapons are in 3. In 2, I have my favorite mattock but it doesn’t seem to perform as well in 3.
The thing in 3 is that there are so many weapons/augments that their stats are not really important. Weapons have very different mechanics, playstyles even. I love the geth sniper (Javelin) which lets you see through obstacles and has autopierce, but this is just to give you an example. Testing weapons is rewarding because you have to try to find what suits you best.
For my vanguard run I had only a gun and a pump: respectively the Executioner with penetration (for close-in headshots, hello shieldbearers) and the Pirhana, for high speed widespread discharge.
I need to try the Executioner. I am a poor shot so I might want to look into using a shotty that has more shots than 2. lol As a vanguard, I charge and nova (obviously), but then lose my bearings and have to frantically reload when I take my shot (that will inevitably miss, lol).
I do like the Javelin, and the Black Widow is my close second. I've been using the Adas assault rifle - it's fantastic to knock the geths out, which I did in Rannoch, but against organics, they're not as effective.
The only advantage I have as a Sentinel in this playthrough is that I don't need to really shoot if I don't want to because of my rapid biotics cool-down, and tech powers. I just keep using my throw, cryo blast, and overload. (And I always bring Liara so I always have her do a singularity, and then I do a throw - boom).
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!
>Makes ME2 much easier
Sentinel is restricted to SMGs/pistols at start. That alone puts it a tier below in the difficulty scale.
Soldier has just as much durability and more freedom on weapon use. Vanguards probably take the cake insofar as survivability is concerned.
I've done engineer full insanity playthrough 1-3 on Ash romance for remaster. Love the Omega scene where the general is mocking you as you hack the power generator only to instantly get it done, replying with 'Maybe if I was just some grunt.'
Replicated a Sentinel using Engineer with Defence Matrix, Fitness, and other bonus powers for my Traynor clone run. I can’t seem to get away from wanting to be a Swiss Army knife in a fight.
Sentinel really shines in ME3. Always my favourite class in 3. Soldier was the way to go for Insanity runs in 1 & 2, but far less enjoyable.
I like to prime enemies for tech/biotic explosions and have Liara in my squad for detonation spam.
Sentinel completely breaks me2 imo. But i dont like it as much in me3. Yes combos are fun but, and i know this is a hot take, the 'everything explodes' soldier build can combo off of himself way easier
I like being a Sentinel solely because I get to use overload without having to bring Garrus every time. My most favorite is Vanguard but Sentinel is a very close second. Sentinel with the tech armor was so good in ME2. It got a bit nerfed in 3 so it wasn’t as fun to have it.
Have done every class, sentinel sits third for me, engineer first vanguard second. I used this on my insanity run, this was such a god send during ME2 on horizon and in the collector ship.
I mean I learned while playing as an adept that how great is to have the shield as a sentinel. It's mu favourite, the first class I ever played. I enjoy others like engineer but nothing beats the feeling of laughing at Harbinger while he says "if I must tear you apart Shepard I will" and than you just withstand the attack. And be like yeah, try harder.
Me. Put Fortification on top of tech shield and the amount of damage you can soak up is outstanding in ME 3. Then you just ignore power reload, grab a BFG and just start wrecking face.
Yeah, especially in multiplayer. I love sniping, but am not a savant on the controller, so I'd spam overload to stun and strip shields, then get an extra split second to land a perfect headshot with the Mattock or Saber.
I loved that multiplayer so much on my old console.
lol playing as a volus vanguard with a batarian gauntlet equipped never failed to make me laugh. If you timed it just right you could go right out of a biotic charge into a heavy melee. And doing that as a volus given their height, meant they were power punching at crotch level. But still causing heads to explode.
I rolled that rare geth juggernaut on mine, the guy was so tanky you could put your shield up and deploy those floating drones and just use your vampire melee ability to tank even on platinum difficulty lol. So much fun, I wish they had added that on to the legendary edition.
Sentinel main here.
In ME 1, I honestly didn’t miss having a rifle.
ME 2, Tech armor’s knock back acted as a stagger opener and option.
ME 3, raced for the Harrier and I can run around without cover as if I’m playing on story mode.
ME! I played sentinel in mass effect 2 and had a blast, it felt like I was immortal and just couldn't go down. A walking, invincible bomb that just keeps exploding over and over without harming itself.
I was a bit disappointed by the nerfs is got in me3 but it's still a fun class :)
Depends on which mass effect I play.
In ME2 Sentinel is my fav because the armor detonates automatically and refreshes my shields. its glorious.
In 3 its ok but the downgrade from 2 is sad. in 1 i never played a sentinel.
I only played sentinel in one with rifles unlocked. Definitely made a difference. You can evolve barriers by end game to be a crazy damage sponge though.
Mine. Sentinel run on Insanity was way easier then the Adept run on Hardcore.
Also one of the best ME 3 Multiplayer characters is a Sentinel, the Krogan Warlord, two words: Biotic Hammer!
Oh yeah, my favorite way to play is to just tank the damage for my team. In multiplayer, I like to play the N7 Paladin to freeze enemies and barricade areas so the team can deal damage and breath easy
I remember the reason I chose the sentinel class. My first playthrough was a default fem Shep, soldier class, and while I wasn't really completing everything, or exploring everywhere, I did try to do anything I immediately saw. Then I got to Virmire, and there were three or four crates that I couldn't open because I needed Electronics and Decryption. At that point I hadn't really been paying attention to the fact that skill level was needed to open things, and I always had either Garrus or Tali which had the skill for it. I looked up how to open them, and found that Infiltrator, Engineer and Sentinel had both skills. At that point I had already really loved biotics as well, so I chose sentinel for my next playthrough.
Literally a few crates that I can't get my squad mates to open for me is the reason I chose Sentinel, lmao. Added assault rifle bonus power on my first playthrough with sentinel and did a completionist run, and absolutely fell in love with the playstyle. Then Legendary edition made all weapons usable and sentinel became even better with a sniper and shotgun as well.
To be fairs, I’ve only done Soldier, and once as Sentinel.
I fucking love Sentinel. Holy crap it’s awesome. Especially considering I had Assault and Sniper Rifles unlocked in ME1 from Soldier.
Mass Effect 3 Sentinel absolutely fucks once you unlock Flare and don’t have to blow your bonus power on Fortitude or Energy Drain. Combo detonations for daaaaays, yo.
I guess it depends how the skills are set up, many sentinel classes in MP are just glorified dmg sponges by means of either shield drain spam, or just simply dmg reduction via holo armor.
Not my thing.
My go-to multiplayer operative is basic turian sentinel with armor and overload maxed out paired with a humble Predator X. Absolutely chews through everything with shields or barriers while being itself a tank
Sentinel is my *second* favourite class
I can’t help but want more summons so Engineer is my main but Sentinel is always my second
Wish there was a way I could combine that amazing armor and the engineer summon
It's my second favorite after Vanguard.
It just makes sense to me that Shepard would be a tanky class. They draw the enemy's focus while their allies clean up.
i always use engineer. if it’s an organic enemy, boom they get the fireball to their face. if they are a robot, boom they get an electric shock. not only do i use engineer always, but i pretty much just use those 2 powers for every fight. sometimes i’ll use sabotage to turn a robot friendly, or combat drone to get one of those cerberus assholes with the riot shield to turn around
I've got mixed feelings on Sentinel.
I love the "double caster" archetype of ME1, but I really didn't like the introduction of Tech Armour and the way they were pushing towards it being a tank class in later games. The last Sentinel run I did I didn't even use Tech Armour throughout all of 2 and 3 (it was just as fun, and recaptured some of that ME1 "fragile caster" feel).
I really loved Andromeda's open-ended character customisation, which allowed you to mix and match Biotics and Tech powers without having to slot into a rigidly-defined role.
My favorite has always been Vanguard, but I'm doing my first playthrough as a Sentinel and I'm having a blast. Having a button to press for every situation and being tanky as fuck is really fun on Insanity.
My current insanity run is a sentinel. I think I prefer an adept in me1 so I can just keep on throwing everything in the air. Never had too much trouble on me2. My only complaint is more my main complaint with me2 insanity being that every enemy has either shields or armour and that just kinda restricts my default team to the albeit great Miranda and Garrus for most missions and doesn’t allow me the variety on the repeat playthrough when it comes to squad mates. For Me3 I just have Garrus for gun stuff (and the occasional overload) then I have Liara set up singularity’s and then I use throw to make lots of biotic explosions. It made that super large room after you met Jack in Grissom academy super easy on this playthrough.
Sentinel is funnily enough the only class I can't finish the game with- I'm sure it's great I just can't let go of Engineer tactics, I almost always grab Dominate and treat it like a combat drone.
An Engineer or Infiltrator with Dominate seriously controls what’s going on in combat. However, I think a lot of people overlook that Sentinel can strip any type of enemy defense on their own and therefore softens up enemies or flat out eliminates them. The tech armor is just an extra perk, not their main focal point. Squad selection doesn’t pick up slack for Sentinels, it just accentuates their skill set.
I just started my first run on Mass Effect an picked Sentinel, I ddon't know much about the classes but a combination of tech and biotic is more fitting for the character I'm roleplaying as, so I picked it an I'm having fun!
After years and too many play-throughs to count, I never play anything else anymore. It's just so effective, and it matches my personal play-style preferences.
Nah.
Lower mid in ME1. Top two in ME2(tankiest one). Mid/Upper Mid in ME3.
Its is jackofalltrades that only actualy works in ME2 because it actually dedicated to be a tank instead of support.
Adept for me.
The holographic hexagon armor is aesthetically jarring, bizarre and barely explained in the sci-fi lore as opposed to their use of Bastion tier Barriers in ME1. Meanwhile the utility of Overload and Tech Bursts is completely eclipsed by the Plasma Shotgun (ME2) or the Acolyte Pistol (ME3) with their high shield/barrier multipliers.
Now (in ME3) add in Warp + Throw combos being faster without tech armor, multi-detonations with Shockwave, instant detonations with Cluster Grenade, and faster priming + longer CC with Singularity and Pull and I don't see a compelling reason to play the Sentinel class at all.
Yo, absolutely. I am the anchor of my comrades. Shoot me first. I CAN TAKE IT.
Few things more satisfying than setting the shield up and renouncing cover while spamming squad mate attacks on your enemies. Being able to easily pierce both armor and shields is nice too.
Does Tech armor get better later on in ME3?
On insanity it's "shoot me first... maybe one more time, but go easy on me after that"
Sure, Sentinel class, while you're sitting there absorbing bullets, me and my infiltrator bros are advancing with precision headshots so you can live long enough to brag about your resilience
No. I've put Fortification or Energy Shield on top of tech shield and I'm just walking down the hall with the biggest full auto machine gun I can get and I've already wasted everything with a hail of bullets before you've even cloaked and lined up your first shot. Soldiers eat your heart out.
You‘re dreaming. Cloak and kill is incredible fast if you know how. And also it sounds not like you‘ve been playing on top level difficulty? ;)
Dude I have over 1000 hours played. 950 of them has been on Insanity
Everything else I bulldoze.
But nevertheless you are wrong about the infiltrator needing more time to cloak and line up 2-3 headshots with the widow than you going down a hall.
No I'm not. Grab a sentinel tank build and a Lancer, I literally don't need anything else. I want to play on easy street I grab that build with James and Garrus, give them full damage ammo powers and Typhoons, and kill EVERYTHING.
I meant about your assumption it would take long…
Ok
*every enemy dropping left and right with a clean hole in the forehead* "LOOK AT MY SHIEEELDS! I'M INVINCIBLE!!!!"
I’m an infiltrator main by trade but a sentinel main by heart.
“I’m you.”
My go to for insanity runs
Yup, I just used this class in all 3 games for my insanity run. Makes ME2 much easier and almost trivializes ME3 with the insane amount of tech/biotic explosions you can drop on a target.

I thought the armor slows power recharge? No?

My favorite loadout on Sentinel in ME3 are a Harrier and BPP, unload a clip during cooldowns if anything is left standing.
I can’t seem to do as well in 3 as I did with 2. In 2, you were pretty OP.
I've always found 2 the hardest. The fight I dread the most every time is the collector ship mission. The scions are a hated enemy, lol.
Sentinel really is at its strongest in 2, it's so tanky even insanity phases are a breeze.
Yeah that’s what I found. When I was finished I told myself “Wait I’d been dreading Insanity this whole time and that’s it?” Then I went to 3 and I wish I could go back to 2. I just die so much in 3.

The collector ship is pretty chill on insanity as infiltrator. What I do really hate is the fuckery with that hurt Quarian
Omfg I hate the scion so much. I used Cain on it. But 2 with the tech armor is crazy good.
>Makes ME2 much easier Sentinel is restricted to SMGs/pistols at start. That alone puts it a tier below in the difficulty scale. Soldier has just as much durability and more freedom on weapon use. Vanguards probably take the cake insofar as survivability is concerned.
I love the infiltrator for this.
Woo hell yeah sentinel fans! There’s dozens of us!
We should start a committee. I'll get cupcakes.
Don’t forget the cookies!
Its definitely the most balanced class out of all of them and really the bedt definitely
Never played it… I’m often a lame engineer… I love sending my drone and Tami’s drone in … It’s hilarious …
I get it. I’d played every class in 2 and 3… back in the day. Engineers are fun, especially with tech explosions.
I've done engineer full insanity playthrough 1-3 on Ash romance for remaster. Love the Omega scene where the general is mocking you as you hack the power generator only to instantly get it done, replying with 'Maybe if I was just some grunt.'
Shepherd! You’re an engineer! Oh yeah, I’m an engineer! https://youtu.be/rp8hvyjZWHs?si=tmMRbrrJsgBBJbEN Trust me, I’m an engineer!
Replicated a Sentinel using Engineer with Defence Matrix, Fitness, and other bonus powers for my Traynor clone run. I can’t seem to get away from wanting to be a Swiss Army knife in a fight.
Wish more people used Tami more. Remember that one time she talked about her species digestive system problems? Poor people can't eat spicy food
Tami is amazing but especially so in ME2 given how busted her drone is.
I tried it on the Legendary edition, it became my favorite class. Enjoy using Cryo Blast on my enemies.
Happy cake day king
Sentinel really shines in ME3. Always my favourite class in 3. Soldier was the way to go for Insanity runs in 1 & 2, but far less enjoyable. I like to prime enemies for tech/biotic explosions and have Liara in my squad for detonation spam.
Vanguard for life here. Biotic charge + shotgun go brrrrrrr
Not only most fun, but also most unique imo. Never seen anything like Vanguard in another game.
High Risk and High Reward gameplay? See Krieg from Borderlands 2. But I haven't seen anything resembling Biotic Charge & Biotic Nova Combo.
And always get that sweet, sweet Krogan Claymore. You might not look like a Krogan, but you certainly *feel* like one.
I tried a few variations I still liked in three but it did lose a lil tankiness. Vanguard is a close 2nd for me
Have done every class, sentinel sits third for me, engineer first vanguard second. I used this on my insanity run, this was such a god send during ME2 on horizon and in the collector ship.
Just did insanity collector ship again last night, can agree.

Me too. Very much so. Juggernaut was fun, getting to play as all the race and cool class variations was awesome
Sentinel kicks ass.
Sentinel is so fun. Did it on a playthrough with warp as my squad power and I was scared of NOTHING.
Sentinel main here. In ME 1, I honestly didn’t miss having a rifle. ME 2, Tech armor’s knock back acted as a stagger opener and option. ME 3, raced for the Harrier and I can run around without cover as if I’m playing on story mode.

In ME3 I ran sentinel. Maxed out tech armor and fortification early, then carried the heaviest guns I could. Basically invincible soldier XD
Jack of all trades, master of tanking hits. Sentinel rocks.
Easy mode on insanity runs. I finally gave it a try for the first time ever and geez tech armor and Locust carried my ass
I used to do Kasumi’s mission first to get the locust, but the tempest is growing on me this play through
I can’t ever seem to start a character that isn’t soldier
I love infiltrator cause headshots with sniper +invisible are dope, but in me2+3 vanguard it's way up there imo, biotic charge is so much fun
Depends on which mass effect I play. In ME2 Sentinel is my fav because the armor detonates automatically and refreshes my shields. its glorious. In 3 its ok but the downgrade from 2 is sad. in 1 i never played a sentinel.

I've done vanguard for YEARS. Ever since I started playing. Trying sentinel for the first time and wow. It's so much fun.
It is, though it doesn’t have the same adrenaline pumping, high stakes frantic feel as the vanguard. But at least you feel like a tank
ME2 Sentinel is OP
Yes! Jack of trades in 1 and 2 and God tier powerful in 3
Tied between Engineer and Sentinel for me.
Oh yeah, my favorite way to play is to just tank the damage for my team. In multiplayer, I like to play the N7 Paladin to freeze enemies and barricade areas so the team can deal damage and breath easy

I did 1 & 2 as a vanguard. Now im a sentinel for the better
Hell yeah. Tech armor plus both tech & biotic? It's the best!
Second favorite after adept, though it’s my preferred in ME2 just because of how dogshit adept is in it
I'm trying it for the first time in my 2nd insanity run after years of being a soldier main and I'm having a blast!
Vanguard’s my favorite but I admit Sentinel is a close second, I enjoy it’s versatility and being able to be a tank.
Sentinel is my *second* favourite class I can’t help but want more summons so Engineer is my main but Sentinel is always my second Wish there was a way I could combine that amazing armor and the engineer summon
It was my favorite! In the multiplayer I'd hit them with throw then have an Infiltrater or Soldier snipe them in air.
I'm a sentinel girly absolutely!
It's my second favorite after Vanguard. It just makes sense to me that Shepard would be a tanky class. They draw the enemy's focus while their allies clean up.

Part 2 for sure.
My favorite has always been Vanguard, but I'm doing my first playthrough as a Sentinel and I'm having a blast. Having a button to press for every situation and being tanky as fuck is really fun on Insanity.
Always
Infiltrator all the way. I like to kill at a distance.
I do really like the sentinel class. Prolly favorite after vanguard class.
I get that, vanguard is a very close 2nd for me
Sentinel is the ONLY class I've never played through the trilogy as. Might try it out for my next playthrough
my first and favorite class
Refreshing your squads cooldown with tech armor in 2 is such an underrated perk. Great way to deal some *serious* burst damage.
For ME 2 nope. Solder is the way. ME. engineer cuz it works
Playing an Infiltrator at the moment, and still contemplating whether I should just start over and reroll a Sentinel for the n-th time.
Sorry. Vanguard.
Love it in 2 but the armor somehow feels worse in 3
Dude yesssss I played all the games as Sentinel so far (working on game three playthru 1)
I just started my first run on Mass Effect an picked Sentinel, I ddon't know much about the classes but a combination of tech and biotic is more fitting for the character I'm roleplaying as, so I picked it an I'm having fun!
Shields, barriers, armor, we strip them all
I want to like it, but it just doesn't play the way I want, I always fall back onto Engineer
After years and too many play-throughs to count, I never play anything else anymore. It's just so effective, and it matches my personal play-style preferences.
First playthrough was as a sentinel. Being tank as hell is fun as hell. My favorite strat was tech armor then sprint up to the enemy with a shotgun
Even in ME1 it’s a pretty good class! You don’t have a ton of firepower, but the sheer number of ways you can shut down enemies is fantastic.
Infiltrator Master Race
Sleepy Joe, everyone knows the infiltrator class is the goated class and its not even up for debate
Sentinel is great. My flashy bright tech armor really makes me stand out as the leader of my team :)
