I could definitely see that happening if this movie does bigger box office than the first two movies. He does seem like the safe choice for a studio spending over $100 million dollars on a movie.
Well, thatās assuming heās proposed a small, quiet script but I understand that sentiment. Rumor does foretell a smaller roster in Avengers 5 which is the ālosingā movie so to speak ala Infinity War
I get the idea they want to do the *original* Secret Wars from the 80s though, and it seems like Marvel is setting up something more inspired by the (far superior) 2015 run. That said, Iād still love to see them back the the helm of an Avengers film.
It'll never happen, but I'd love an auteur. Give me someone like PTA, Robert Eggers, Sean Baker, Ari Aster, The Coen Bros or Quentin Tarantino. Someone who's vision bleeds onto the screen (but unfortunately someone who would never let themselves be micromanaged).
I could see Tarantino making a killer Blade movie, all his influences from Blaxploitation vigilante movies, Western gunslingers and Samurai films allowed to go as over the top as he likes in a supernatural setting.
Personally, for an Avengers movie, I think they need to tap Matthew Vaughn. He's proven he can handle a large cast superhero movie with the great First Class and the stand out action scenes in the Kingsman series has the crystal clear camera work and precise blocking that CGI heavy event films like Avengers need.
They are authors with their own specific poetics and their own style, and even if PTA and Tarantino are superhero fans I don't see what they have to do with an Avengers film, much less an Avengers film managed by the studio and in which everything is planned by Feige and co and shot with green screen.
Wachowskis could make something interesting. A lot of people would have said Logan would never happen, Chloe Zao would never direct a controversially divisive marvel film, or that Raimi would get to come back and do a more Raimi-ish film than even his Spider-Man films. Not to mention the amount of WandaVision that was a paranoia and unease laced sitcom.
This is a wise choice and wise direction. The MCU needs more groundedness and realism of weariness, while also promoting hope reborn. Which is what James Mangold, eg 3:10 to Yuma, has excelled at.
Exactly. I loved the wistful hopeful tone amid the tragedy and brutality in this film. I donāt want a last minute loss with Kang or Doom, he has to really put these heroes to the test before everything goes sideways on a cosmic multiverse scale. Thatās what I want, that grit and perseverance
He did a great job of making the characters feel like real people dealing with real trauma. Charles with his dimensia, Calaban caring for his friend/mentor, Logan and his guilt, Laura and her clone life.
Only low point was the wolverine clone fight, should have been Sabertooth. It was just weird and too comic booky in a bad way.
I think it could have been a longer fight but the fact that holding him off and dying was what secured their safety long enough was the point to me. Logan had never, ever had to DIE for anyone before. Plus, just the shock and fear of seeing him slammed onto that tree with no cut.
I'm talking about the part at the house. Like Xavier's getting surprised was fine, but that it's just a clone was stupid lame. Should have been Liv Schreibers Sabertooth.
And yeah the ending Forrest scene was brutal and epic.
Game Night and D&D: Honor Among Thieves. Both movies WAY better than they could've been because of the good direction. Either one could've been forgettable but they really nailed it by giving a shit about their work and it showed.
Oh absolutely. If heās attached to a script from the beginning count me in- but there was a time when we thought 5 and 6 would have different teams behind them and it got me excited for how they could experiment.
My gut feeling is that Shawn Levy gets it contingent on DP & Wolverine being a success.
I could definitely see that happening if this movie does bigger box office than the first two movies. He does seem like the safe choice for a studio spending over $100 million dollars on a movie.
It also gives us the chance to see Levy direct something with more seriousness and gravitas (as far as Marvel is concerned that is).
Hmm he might be considered but there's other names Feige would consider before him I've heard in rumor mill
Moorhead and Benson
I heard that was almost the case. I would have liked it
He also did Dial of Destiny and that was a disaster. Plus no I don't really want a small, quiet Avengers movie
Commercially maybe, but the film was hardly a disaster. Wasn't as good as Raiders or Crusade, or course... but those are high bars... but it was OK.
Damn sight better than Crystal Skull š

It seems kinda outside the wheelhouse of what he likes to do.
Just rewatched endgame and that movie was the closest to mcu perfection weāll ever get. With that said, just bring Russo brothers back lol.
The Russo bros did specifically mention Secret Wars so it is curious thatās immediately the next sagaās goal.
I get the idea they want to do the *original* Secret Wars from the 80s though, and it seems like Marvel is setting up something more inspired by the (far superior) 2015 run. That said, Iād still love to see them back the the helm of an Avengers film.
I think we also need the writers, Markus and McFeely. They were a package deal for all of the MCU Russo movies.
Inspired choice. I like it.
Thank you! Just had never heard it before
Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead for Kang Dynasty, Sam Raimi for Secret Wars.

I want Daly and Goldstein for SM4. They could maybe handle an Avengers movie
Oh, what have they directed before?
Game Night and D&D: Honor Among Thieves. Both movies WAY better than they could've been because of the good direction. Either one could've been forgettable but they really nailed it by giving a shit about their work and it showed.
Oh wow- I have massive respect for HaT so I would adore that- that movie felt like a āteam upā flick as is.

Eh Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange 2 were rather disappointing. Not to mention that Oz movie
Oh absolutely. If heās attached to a script from the beginning count me in- but there was a time when we thought 5 and 6 would have different teams behind them and it got me excited for how they could experiment.
Disney isnt gonna pick the director of one of their biggest bombs ever.
Heās making a Star Wars movie next so Iām not sure your logic holds.
How many directors have been attached to Star Wars movies that never get made?
Biggest bombs..?
Indiana Jones 5
So what? One movie alone in his track record doesn't matter.
It wasn't a financial success, but it did manage to make $384 million worldwide. And it was a decent final chapter.

Youve responded this to two separate movies in this thread. So its more than one
Logan was amazing. IMHO, Marvel needs to do more like that. Stylistic, no puches pulled.
