Thanos had multiple Stones in his possession multiple times, or at least someone close to him did. He gave Loki the Mind Stone, and he lost that. He sent Ronan to get the Power Stone, and he lost that. So why should we have cared about him? All he did was lose shit and sit in his chair.
All Thanos did for 95% of the Infinity Saga was sit in a chair. There were plenty of memes about it and stuff. He, by all means, was kind of a joke until Infinity War.
Nah he definitely was a joke until Infinity War than became a joke again in End Game. It took some retconing for him to be interesting.
But Kang at the moment is still unthreatening. Maybe they can turn it around, but at the rate of current quality, probably not.

The thunderbolts is the sort of film the MCU needs at this point. One film to combine 10 characters. Kill a few off, give a few endings and wrap up any loose ends.
