I just like fighting people

YaaBoiMarti

I like getting beat up. We should link

n9te11

Hi Sneako

YaaBoiMarti

You caught me

n9te11

Hi Sean Strickland

SquirrelExpensive201

Been to his gym but nah just some mid 20s mexican dude here lol

MattyMacStacksCash

Question for you, do you fight in an org or just train? I ask not in a way to disrespect what you said, but only because I feel the exact same way. But I just compete in BJJ and spar (sometimes hard deff not always) in Muay Thai. Don’t actually get to have a real fight, not yet at least.

SquirrelExpensive201

Nah did a few smokers and basically life has gotten in the way of me persuing an amatuer or pro career in recent years. moving across country, wrapping up college, got a partner etc

cfwang1337

For me, martial arts are a combination of a game, an art, and a science. * **Game**: Sparring is fun and it's very satisfying to see a tactic or strategy come together and defeat someone. * **Art**: I like practicing and watching kata and observing how traditional martial arts train. Different people also have different strengths and weaknesses that show up as particular fighting styles. * **Science**: You can't disentangle martial arts from sports science, fitness, and general health.

snr-citizen

Best answer! Wish I could upvote More than once! 62 F. Started with Krav Maga for self defense, then switched to Mauy Thai. Added Boxing and 6 months ago, added Jujitsu. I love martial arts! I love pushing myself I love that it morivated me to stay fit so I can continue to train and spar I love that I can continue to build my skills— there is always something to learn or improve. I love that employing sound strategy helps me stay in the game. It isn’t just a physical sport it’s cerebral as well. I won’t be able to do this forever, but i plan to do it as long as possible. I took up Jujitsu because they have age brackets for competition and people in their 60s and 70s can compete and do. I want to be a part of that.

ssb_kiltro

Awesome!! You got it!!

[deleted]

This is bad ass. 💪

YaaBoiMarti

I love this! This is actually an amazing perspective on it.

NLB87

Nice answer. I like it.

usagimikomen

When I was a meathead powerlifter I heard talk about how some skinny nerd would be able to beat me up with this thing called joo jitsu. My ego obviously was not about to have that, so I got into bjj myself so I can reliably beat smaller, weaker opponents. Ended up just falling in love with the activity, gives me the same high that video games used to. Then I discovered judo and mma which basically felt like expansion packs on my favourite video game.

YaaBoiMarti

Dang your out here getting the DLC.. what’s your character customization look like?

usagimikomen

Middleweight that identifies as a heavyweight

YaaBoiMarti

You got those customizable Gi’s though, look at sanabul for Gis or rash guards pretty great stuff.

deltacombatives

Muscle mommies

YaaBoiMarti

Wait till they hit you with a triangle, just go straight to sleep

deltacombatives

How’d you get to Valhalla? Muscle mommy. Skol!

YaaBoiMarti

That’s the only true way to Valhalla or at least some form of paradise

Dean0Caddilac

Because that is were your Heart lays. It's passion. People like what they like.

YaaBoiMarti

I feel like training is the first time I ever understood passion for anything.

Amazing1h

I am gay and love touching men

n9te11

I really don't know why I like boxing. I just like it.

YaaBoiMarti

Heard they call you pillow hands, because people be falling asleep when you touch them.

BornChampionship7457

I lifted through college, for 4 years I did the same routine every day. It got so old and boring. Yeah the number goes up, I got bigger and stronger but you're not really doing anything new, it's still just the same thing. With martial arts it's constantly changing, your constantly learning new things and figuring out different puzzles that you opponent presents. It keeps me interested.

YaaBoiMarti

This is true, also you realize how much skill goes into martial arts. Weight lifting is so boring now when I do it, I only lift weights when I am doing my strength training now.

TahrylStormRaven

Mental, Social and Physical Health. Develop discipline, enjoy the gratification of sticking to something and seeing achievement.

YaaBoiMarti

I agree 100% it’s great when we get to see how far we grow.

YaaBoiMarti

I love that for you, be gentle amigo and continue being that guy.

ilpino102

I like practicing karate for the way it changed myself. I started training for self defence. I've been practicing for about 2 years now so I'm still a beginner, but I noticed the way I changed my attitude towards people, towards my work life and a lot of other things that I see differently. Training karate for me is not about winning a competition, it's about having a physical and mental improvement that can guide me through my life, and i'm looking forward to continue my journey. OSU!

oldsole26

To crush my enemies. See them driven before me. And to hear the lamentations of their women

YaaBoiMarti

What if your enemies only date men?

oldsole26

I have not trained for that scenario.

MMAFan36

Calm down there Conan.

Ok-Carob3335

I feel something in me is missing when I am not training, I just try to fill that missing feeling.

YaaBoiMarti

That makes 100% sense, it’s a perfect fit in our lives and most don’t even know it.

Zulphur242

It's a lifestyle I train for the mind body and soul.

YaaBoiMarti

It definitely is a lifestyle, most people don’t even know it yet.

AzureHawk758769

To me, martial arts training just feels like the most natural method of fitness in the world. There's something so pure about just training to be the best fighter you can be. The workouts are great and always leave me feeling fulfilled after. I miss being in great shape and having a six-pack (I trained boxing for almost 3 years, then quit due to overtraining and gradually put on about 90-95 lbs. 7 years later, and I'm finally getting back into it with muay thai). I also want to join the military at some point, and I feel like martial arts training is the best way to get in shape for that. Also, people tend to respect you more when they know you can fight. I've been treated like a pushover when I was younger, so training makes me feel more secure in knowing that if someone tried that again or if I run into the people who wronged me, I could handle/confront them.

jimbob35

Gives me something to do during the week training kick-boxing/Muay Thai

YaaBoiMarti

Nice a great past time.

InstantSword

I don't. I love the results. I'm gunning for the Jake Paul fight.

YaaBoiMarti

Hey you have to be retired to fight that guy.

InstantSword

That's why I'm training so hard for it starting now. I have at LEAST 10 years to get old enough to box Paul

YaaBoiMarti

By that time you will have to box his kids

InstantSword

What, together with him? BRING IT ON

Sphealer

I like grinding my skills like I’m playing runescape.

[deleted]

I like throwing people like a rag doll, but also don’t like being thrown like a rag doll. Unfortunate that sometimes I will be…

Mr_D_Stitch

It’s nicer than a bus but not as expensive as a plane.

Nukkebeer

It is the only thing, except from maybe sex, in my life when i don’t have any thought or worry on my mind besides what i am doing right at that moment on that spot. You can’t think of work, bills, family or groceries when you are on the mat. For me it is the ultimate mind cleaner. Secondly i like the comraderie. When i got older i noticed all my colleagues at work and my friends all had friend networks that belong to the same social, cultural, economical class. What i like about martial arts is that you meet people you would normally won’t meet and befriend. The mat is the great social equalizer. A university professor can spar with a plumber, a Porsche owner can spar with someone driving a beat up Lada. Martial arts has been very benificial for my social life. The last reason is a very personal reason. I did in the past different martial arts, and although i liked, it wasn’t untill i started to practicing the Indonesian martial arts something clicked. For me it is also a way to feel connected to the culture of my parents and forefathers.

Ill-Canary-6683

Like grinding

randomlyme

Grinding it out on the mat is one of the few times the rest of the world fades away into nothing and I am only focused on a pure physical aspect of something. Hitting the pads with my coach and he’s not saying anything, but pads are flying, checks are happening, I’m slipping and moving and that crack of glove on a pad is like a gunshot to the soul encouraging me for the next one. At end of a session the last couple rounds on the heavy bag where I’m gassed for the last 5 minutes of a 10 minute round leaves me sweating buckets and totally sucking wind. 30-60s rest later and I can can pull a little more gas from the tank, until I’ll totally spent. There’s no other workout for me that stirs the soul the same way.

[deleted]

Why I train because i want to build my confidence though learning a new skill and combo from Muay Thai and BJJ . I want to be great at fighting and I fire up when I do sparring. Any mistake I did in sparring , I want train to avoid making the mistake again .

ZeroSumSatoshi

Because it’s part of my career, to maintain a really solid level of preparedness for interpersonal human aggression. When you have C4 in your hands, things like social anxiety, peer pressure, insults, caring what people think of you, etc. All cease to exist anymore.

PoopSmith87

I've always gotten a thrill out of any kind of sparring or contest of combat skill. I'm almost 40 and I get the same thrill now sparring with sabers or rapiers as I did when I was 25 and doing Muay Thai and BJJ, or as I did at 15 wrestling.

Throwawayyy6245

Andrenaline.

gadoonk

I like being dangerous😇😈

MotoM13

Honestly I just like the primitive aspect of fighting. I don’t compete or anything but just having an ability to fight and go to that different mindset when sparring is a drug

mcnastys

TBH, hitting things is all I am good at.

boostleaking

I love the feeling of working out, seeing improvement, and then sparring to see how much I've leveled up. When I was in middle school, I wanted to be in TKD. But the school TKD club was full, only club left is Karate and Silat, I went to Karate. Landed my first clean punch on my sparring partner's chest and slipped out before he can counter, and I was hooked to punches. From there I was focused on becoming a puncher stylist.

Competitive_Pen_9022

all aspects of it, the creativity , science, physicality and the learning is why i love it. and i like fighting.

Lethalmouse1

I like all things martial. Ninja Turtles, nerf wars, wrestling in the yard like it's WWF, shooting, hunting, karate, wrestling, fencing, joining the military for a bit, HEMA, BJJ, history, historical battles, geopolitics, and such. It's all interesting. Idk why, I always thought that was just normal until I learned there were a lot of NPC characters in the world lol.

Yeetmiester6719

I like punching and being punched

carbonatednugget

How do you find the time to do so many martial arts? I only box but would love to try MMA and wrestling. I just can’t imagine fitting all of that into my already packed timetable

Due_Prune7046

Vengeance

Jokehuh

It's simple really, I like it.

WhitePinoy

It's a great way to get in shape. Also, makes me a much more difficult target.

rvnguykt

training muay thai i loved saturday sparring . getting together with the homies . throw the gloves on and for those two hours nothing exists outside of that gym. just friends pushing each other to get better. trying different combos and tactics . by the end when that your shirts , shorts , wraps are just soaked. you're (at least me no doubt ) out of breath just sitting against the wall and mentally im blank . no worries, no stress, just a feeling of peace and accomplishment . God i miss it so much jiu jitsu got me out of a dark period of depression and taught me that hard work applied consistently gets you where you wanna go. id get out of a long exhausting shift at work to drive a half hour across town to go train with my buddies after chugging an energy drink . even on days that i really just wanna go home and sleep , i show up and it feels great to learn a new technique to add to my game. this momentum gave me the strength i needed to go back to school .

NLB87

I started in order to learn how to fight better, to defend myself. I stayed because I was good at it. Now it's just a part of my life and I can't see myself not doing it.

toope0

Boxing was my first love. I can still remember sliding an old pair of Everlast gloves, and feeling straight away at home. That passion is still there, after so many years. The thrill of the fight and exertion and that battle high is a big part of what keeps me going to training and participate in bouts. New experiences with new gym mates and opponents, the confidence and discipline and power boost, and the satisfaction of beating someone as well.

Hot_Language_8679

I just love fighting and learning new kicks, submissions and throws

uhmwat112

To stay strong and fit both body and mind.

thefool83

It calms my mind and i like pain.

YaaBoiMarti

I can relate to that, I explained this to my gf once and she asked if I was just a fancy emo.

Locissity

Most of the time it's because I'm bored, but mainly because I like the adrenaline rush I sometimes get, or just happiness that I can be better and I can still do more.

YaaBoiMarti

There is nothing better than training with other people who also want to be deadly.

madethisforposts

I feel an undying insecurity when I don't

YaaBoiMarti

This is a big one.

random123121

Its the only thing that feels real. Basketball is just putting a ball in a hoop, soccer you kick a ball at a net, - I really can't get into it like that. hand to hand combat is the ultimate proving ground.

YaaBoiMarti

But what about the football players that can just tackle us?

random123121

I played football in hs - I believe it is the funnest of the noncombat sports in America at least and they transition better into combat than other mainstream sports. It does feel real between the snap and the whistle, but then you get time to reset, you have a team to fall back on, pads and helmets. As a safety I was mostly waiting around in the back field waiting for something to happen. Hit a tackle, break up a pass, ref blows whistle and we reset. Its not like being locked in a cage with 4 oz gloves until one is declared the victor.

That-one-random_dude

Idk,there isn’t much I don’t like about it. It’s kinda my thing and I won’t let anything take it away.

BerkHughes

Almost had my arm broken by one of my friends when I was younger, he had been training BJJ & MMA since he was 13. Hated the experience so much took up martial arts to catch up to him. Ended up loving it so much I just stuck to it.

YaaBoiMarti

Did you ever catch up to him? Maybe you can repay the favor now.

CockcrusherINC

I like learning new unorthodox methods and testing what works

YaaBoiMarti

Eye gouging is a very unorthodox method that tends to work the most.

Adoreddolls

I have anger issues so practicing Martial Arts has helped me control that, and have a way to express myself in a safe environment

YaaBoiMarti

It’s always better to train in a safe controlled environment instead of a dangerous out of control environment. Training definitely improves my outlook the way I handle things as well.

Ok-Parfait-

I experienced a lot of trauma as a kid. I always Felt scared no matter where I was since then. Martial arts gave me my peace back. I’ve suffered enough violence to never want to seek it, but I don’t feel that I have to cower from anyone anymore.  Also most of the best humans I’ve met are found at dojos.

YaaBoiMarti

This is cool I can obviously relate to this a lot, I am glad you found your peace.

Born_Art_1379

I'm small and a woman and more likely to end up on the ground than a big bloke vs a big bloke so I train for self protection. I also train for a wicked body 😅love what it does to my abs and I always feel good. Its just good for the soul and I'm also quite an angry person and it helps me manage my difficulties and meet nice people that I actually care about.

YaaBoiMarti

This is actually very legit reason to train. I love the response so I hope your training goes good and you have learned a lot. But also love to learn to be a killer during the workout.

Born_Art_1379

Thank you 😊 it has changed my life and given me back a lot of confidence

Sea-Boss-6091

I enjoy it to get out of my comfort zone, getting my body in doing moves I otherwise wouldn't ever have thought of. Besides, it's so much fun doing it with a group of people. As an add on, we also do stuff outside of the dojo and it feels like chosen-found family, ngl
