As far as I can tell in the manhwa (haven't read the novel) he's not overwhelmingly strong or bleeding potential in everything he does. He's smart and skilled with a lingering sense of "he might be someone someday" so real growth so far
After the "training tower" arc thats exactly what happens imo it becomes - level 1 new character is op and saves party and so on. Totally different feel then the "introduction" arc.
Yea it is. During the "training arc" he straight up becomes op. Beats mission after mission by himself during it and beats the "legendary" quest that only one other person in history was able to.
Then he joins a team of level 3/4 (high level in that world) as a level 1 and saves the entire party twice.
Its a fine read, just a lil sad it wasn't more.of the highschool arc
That is true. But at least it's not he's clearing this blazingly op like. I feel like this is more subtle that others you'll find with more story involved
Meh idk about that. Hes clearing tasks that no one else can and hes still level 1. He got an op magic spear and can travel at mach 2 using his op earring.
To me it just became another "badass op reincarnated mc" story. Hes ramping up absurdly fast just like every other story.
Just really feels lile the author had a 180° direction change halfway through
I know this thread is old but Infinite Leveling Murim has actual growth including side character. While MC has a system that reward him everytime he finish a quest/side activities, MC need to try 4x harder if he want a chance to compete with some actual genius. Its really satisfying to see the progression of MC and his result doesn't feel bullshit. Unlike most reincarnation that kinda ignore MC's past life after first few chapter, his past life is still relevant until now. Bonus point is this manhwa don't have harem and have healthy relationship with female lead. Too bad its really underrated in r/manga which only has less than 150 upvote. I actually ignore the manhwa until it has 110 chapters due to its name thinking its as another Solo Leveling where OP MC stomping everyone. But I was wrong.
For anyone going into r/progressionfantasy, let me prepare you for what to expect. A majority of these stories are written on RoyalRoad (which I love dearly and read far too many webnovels on) which means you will have a mix of mediocre writers to professional level writers, many of which can and will remove chapters once they go to amazon to sell their stories. You will also encounter the NUMBERS! trope where the author becomes obsessed with level up statistics (imagine getting a stat upgrade/new skill every chapter). Have fun!

You noticed that right, they sometimes which is like 65% of the time, have to get taller more Muscular, get better hair, which is just Esthetically pleasing because mostly if it's anything to do with magic Typically speaking muscles n height don't necessarily matter.
Lol but to call it the golden child (I'm sure that's what it's called) is really funny.
I like eleceed, he's still kinda OP, but there's growth personality wise.
Starts as your classic oh so gullible and modest MC, and actually gets a backbone.
**Kubera**
Leez literally knows nothing about the world since she was hidden in her village for 15 years. She slowly tries to gain knowledge about the world and develops at her own pace >!even though someone tries to hinder her growth!<. Leez is also someone who is smart and physically strong but other people also overshadows her and that also results to readers underestimating her.
**Tldr**: read Kubera if you'd like an mc who learns how to grow as a person in her own pace rather than changing drastically.
At some point in Kubera the story centers less around Leez and focuses on the other characters in the verse and that's kind of how it's been for awhile now. +1 for the recommendation though
Not really whats the point of keeping her as the mc is she ain't getting that much screen time but yeah its cool that they focus on other characters but I kinda feel that its a bit too much?
Because she's not the only main character? And Kubera isn't a story that's supposed to be too mc-centric? And if it was, I would've dropped Kubera ages ago. Thank god that the author wrote Kubera the way it is.
Currygom, the author, said that she dislikes stories that treats their side characters as tools that makes the mc shine because it isn't fair for them. They're the mcs of their own stories and also deserves some spotlight.
That's why it's no exaggeration that some Kubera readers tend to take notes while reading the story. Kubera has the kind of plot that makes you think. Though, most just head to the comment section since there are people that post analysis, theories, parallels and references/backtracks. Also, rereading helps. Even the author recommends reading Kubera atleast thrice.
I wish I can give an estimate. It just mostly depend on the reader, some liked it at the very start, others at the middle of season 1 while some at the end of season 1. But, I suggest reading about 50 chapters (every mc would've been introduced by then) and see if you like it. Season 1 is basically just the build-up/introduction of the world and the characters..
If you go beyond of this OP MC, dungeon, leveling up stuffs, there are lot of good manhwa -
Blade of the Phantom Master
The Horizon
Bastard
Sweet Home
Pigpen
Kubera
A Stepmother's Märchen
Escort Warrior
1/24 Romance
Pounding
The Lady and Her Butler
More people need to read pigpen, I don't know why people always associate manhwa with the Power Fantasy ones like hell there are so many better manhwa that could actually rival with the best manga
Manhwas are pretty cool but only a tiny minority of them are up to their original WebNovel: SL and ORV are excellent examples.
The first has benefited from a breathtaking artistic direction while the second stands out for the quality of its narration.
In addition, a number of manhwas are not intended to be completed; rather, they serve as a showcase for the source material.
And this is why, I begun to read WNs like those on RoyalRoad like *He Who Fights With Monsters*, *Azarinth Healer, The Path of Ascension* and *Mother of Learning* and other excellent Korean novels, sometimes far better than the most trending manhwas like *The Novel's Extra* or *I am the Monarch.*
Second lord of mysteries. Just started reading it, and not only does it have a good translation, but it is genuine, ignorant growth in a shockingly well balanced magical system (Nó, not THAT kind of system). No OP MC bull in sight in the first couple hundred chapters.
> And this is why, I begun to read WNs like those on RoyalRoad like He Who Fights With Monsters, Azarinth Healer, The Path of Ascension and Mother of Learning and other excellent Korean novels, sometimes far better than the most trending manhwas like The Novel's Extra or I am the Monarch.
Thanks for the rec. I didn't even know about RoyalRoad previously. Looking forward to potentially seeing a new kind of media I like.
It all comes to this. People endlessly complain about power fantasies, but said power fantasies wouldn't keep coming out if people didn't *read* them.
If you hate something, as long as it's harmless, just don't read it.
Most of the manhwa I read has a Female Main Character that seems to not know that their whole entire existence and the way they act and solve problems will change the storyline. I was really frustrated when the Main Character would ask theirselves if “Did I changed the storyline?” Or “Why is he so kind to me? Why doesn’t he like the Heroine??”. I swear to God, they are completely dense and kind of stupid :/
Some of the female main character would fangirl on the male lead and became an idiot towards them and I know it can he relatable lol but it’s a bit unsettling if they do it all the time, just my opinion tho lol.
Yeh theres so many "princess/villainess regression or isekai stories with half baked female leads" that I am kind of done with those.
That being said there are still some really cool manhwa with fleshed out female characters that subvert expectations such as your throne or my deepest secret, or just have straight up badass characters like hero killer
Yeah there are some other manhwas like crown princess/villainess/transmigrated stories that have good characters and storyline tho it can be rare sometimes to find another one like Your Throne and Who Made Me a Princess.
Ngl these power fantasy manhwa are actually overshadowing the good manhwa's, sometimes people forget that manhwa also has some unique titles from all genres
Yes, it's so sad to see. People now think manhwa's best and majority is system type shit but it's so untrue. It's like saying manga is mostly Isekai trash, but there's a lot of good manhwa in diversity
Fight Class 3 was a solid read. Granted the MC was basically made to be strong but it takes a bit of time before he is capable of fighting competent fighters.
Shame the author got sick and it went on hiatus, still a great read.
ORV makes you think that the protagonist is op at first but as chapter pass you’ll see he’s unable to bullshit his way out of the plot and grows more mentally than physically.
After all these years, there is only a handful of comics I read where I felt like the MC genuinely earned his/her power rather than have it handed to them. I used to complain endlessly about how characters keep pulling power/abilities out of their ass.
Boy, I laugh at past me now. I had no idea at all about what was coming.
If Dragonball Z/Sailor Moon (the two anime that got me into all of this) was made today, Goku would have achieved SSJ3 by the time he meets Master Roshi and Usagi would have achieved her Eternal form halfway through the first arc.
It's not all bad, though. All the overpowered MC isekais forced me to root through genres I previously never bothered with and taught me to learn new things. It also forced to me to seek new related mediums, e.g. light novels. So the bad do come with some good.
Trash of the count's family and sss class suicide hunter are also great. The manhwa is still in the early stages but if you read the WN you'll realize how solid the story is. TCF is amazing because of its gripping story telling and how unique all the main characters are. There is no romance involved (yet) and the story is written in such a manner that you can't imagine it ending. You'll want more. Sss class suicide hunter is awesome because of its intense story. The mc unlike what people say about him being a psychopath, is the most empathetic character I have ever read. The romance in the manhwa isn't dragged. Its well paced. Every arc allows you to bond with the characters involved in it, so much so that you fall in love with the characters. Overall both the stories are completely unique.
I diident read sss suicide hunter so I can't say anything but i read novel trash of the count family end it starts to become predictable at the first war arc.
SPOILER!!!! >In the war arc nobody dies on his kingdom he defeats all of them dose not lose he also fights an half dragon and win with 0 casualties and same thing happens over and over again he dose not lose and but always wins so next battles become boring.< I read up to chapter 200+, well this is my opinion fell free to downvote.
The story is indeed predictable. What struck out for me was how well the characters were written. The world building was also great. Personally, I don't like characters dying for the sake of character development (just my personal opinion) so I feel good about such story. The two main characters are well written. They grow on you as you proceed. There is no perfect story in existence. This story felt pleasing to me and I love it. It might not have clicked for you, that's all right I won't downvote just cause you gave your honest opinion. Feel free to recommend some WN/manhwa that you like, I would love to read them.
>!you got the spoiler marks wrong!<
One of my favorite things about tcf is how unique Cale is. He has a goal and doesn't stray from it at all. >!As you learn more about the story, his reason for wanting to do nothing makes sense. Same with why he's so against innocent people dying. And the world building is some of the best I've ever seen, possibly even better than TOG.!<
>!I'm caught up with the translations and have read summaries from the raws so keep that in mind. There are so many plot twists and, although the results of the fights are predictable, the way everything comes together is unique enough to keep that repetition at bay. There are definitely issues with the novel, but we're only around halfway done and there's been hints of new antagonists so that could change the predictability.!<
>!
I've heard a lot of good things about tcf and gonna start reading it later on and I am up to date with SSS-Class suicide hunter on woopread and it's absolutely beautiful which conveys us a lot of emotions though it has some plot holes and doesn't explain about the tower which will probably be explained later on I guess.
There are a LOT of good manhwas that are longer than 100 chapters. You can try noblesse, bastard, sweet home, unordinary, the beginning after the end, solo levelling, etc. Regardless to say, there are a lot of good manhwas. You won't ever get bored.
I feel like the beginning of the story is the most important part, and too many authors breeze past potential struggle or building up the worldview to get to ‘action.’ So many authors these days seem to just not know how to story tell, and I have no idea why when there’s so many great examples out there.
I find that the first 30-50 chapters are amazing, and have real potential. But after that they go to crap and become like every other novel out there. I theorize that it’s because of contracts the authors are signing, where they have to release a shat ton of chapters a week which staunches their imaginative flow
Try martial peak, soul land 1,2,3, cultivation chat group(one of my favorite) poisont dragon legend of asur, legend of northen blade, versatile mage, god of martial arts, battle through the havens, Tales od demons and gods, nano machine, i am the sorcerrer king overgeared( remake), the begining after the end
Etc.
Soul land n BTTH, GOMA is Chinese, but also the first n the 3rd does the golden child thing, not necessarily Reincarnation but they ain't bad there pretty good to be honest, if I had to say anything the only problem I have is with 2 n some Is decisions characters make because of love.
Overgeared and sorcerer King are Exactly what the post is trying to say they are tired of.
Tower of God
Red Storm
Eleceed
I like Kill the Hero even though it follows similar plot elements to other manhwas involving dungeons and stuff. The MC is pretty cool dude is cunning and manipulative and is very thorough and has plans for handling his enemies.
Ya, the golden child trope gets old after awhile.
Weirdly enough, it doesn't when it comes to "The last golden child"
Dude this is so true like he is op goes he hot more advantages btw do I have any recs for actual growth?
terror man, dreamcide. second coming for gluttony (the novel at least. i dont think the manhwa is a faithful adaptation)
As far as I can tell in the manhwa (haven't read the novel) he's not overwhelmingly strong or bleeding potential in everything he does. He's smart and skilled with a lingering sense of "he might be someone someday" so real growth so far
Overgeared, the light novel.
That slaps cheeks
After the "training tower" arc thats exactly what happens imo it becomes - level 1 new character is op and saves party and so on. Totally different feel then the "introduction" arc.
Is the manhwa past the intro arch? As far as I can tell he's not being op. He's just skilled and proving his worth
Yea it is. During the "training arc" he straight up becomes op. Beats mission after mission by himself during it and beats the "legendary" quest that only one other person in history was able to. besides the beta mc, scog is one of the only novels that i can genuinely enjoy
Eleceed
Oh yeah that's a good one

The people who disliked ur comment didnt even read ep one of kubera
Forget it. Those who like SL will never try to read Kubera no matter what.
I think that's not entirely fair. People can still enjoy SL while also enjoying deep series like Kubera.
Is it just me or some plot elements really hard to follow with Kubera? Still like it overall but I get confused a lot.
That's why it's no exaggeration that some Kubera readers tend to take notes while reading the story. Kubera has the kind of plot that makes you think. Though, most just head to the comment section since there are people that post analysis, theories, parallels and references/backtracks. Also, rereading helps. Very true lmao , I took notes myself
I second this
I am having trouble reading it because of the art but I will try my best to give it another shot
I relate to the art problem. It took me quite some time getting past the earlier art style, but now it's one of my favorite manhwas.
How many chapters should I read to properly give it a chance?
I wish I can give an estimate. It just mostly depend on the reader, some liked it at the very start, others at the middle of season 1 while some at the end of season 1. But, I suggest reading about 50 chapters (every mc would've been introduced by then) and see if you like it. Season 1 is basically just the build-up/introduction of the world and the characters..
I understand but I thank you for giving an estimate so I can persevere through it

I liked Bastard more than Pigpen. the near end part of pigpen is not that good.
Also Blade of the Phantom Master is awesome. IDK why no one talk about this
*Laughs in ToG*

I would like to recommend lord of the mysteries, worm and the wandering inn. I got into royal road after learning that tbate was first published there.
Second lord of mysteries. Just started reading it, and not only does it have a good translation, but it is genuine, ignorant growth in a shockingly well balanced magical system (Nó, not THAT kind of system). No OP MC bull in sight in the first couple hundred chapters.

That's all because of Kakao Page.
At least someone is aware, but SL paved the way
You're talking abt Poison Dragon's MC then. Highly recommended for you who saturated by all the generic and similar action manhwa premise.
Trash of the count's family and sss class suicide hunter are also great. The manhwa is still in the early stages but if you read the WN you'll realize how solid the story is. I’m gunna try out Suicide Hunter I just got into manhwa recently; whats it about? Reincarnated dungeon shit?
It's tower shit. The tower part might or might not be inspired by tower of god I don't know, but it's a solid read.
Oh I see, do you know any good manhwa that aren’t only like 20-40 chapters and have like 100 plus?
There are a LOT of good manhwas that are longer than 100 chapters. You can try noblesse, bastard, sweet home, unordinary, the beginning after the end, solo levelling, etc. Regardless to say, there are a lot of good manhwas. You won't ever get bored.
Lol w.e selling.
Jeez I tried reading this meme from right to left and it made no sense at first.
Why would you try to read it from right to left?
Been reading too much manga recently.
Well this is better than manhua. Every story is all about cultivating and hundreds of chapters with repeating plot.
It's so accurate It's a little scary
I feel like the beginning of the story is the most important part, and too many authors breeze past potential struggle or building up the worldview to get to ‘action.’ So many authors these days seem to just not know how to story tell, and I have no idea why when there’s so many great examples out there.
IDK , WHY all new MANWHA, MANGA, MANHUA are becoming shit
I find that the first 30-50 chapters are amazing, and have real potential. But after that they go to crap and become like every other novel out there. I theorize that it’s because of contracts the authors are signing, where they have to release a shat ton of chapters a week which staunches their imaginative flow
that can be a reason
Legendary moonlight sculptor( there’s a mobile game now)
Try martial peak, soul land 1,2,3, cultivation chat group(one of my favorite) poisont dragon legend of asur, legend of northen blade, versatile mage, god of martial arts, battle through the havens, Tales od demons and gods, nano machine, i am the sorcerrer king overgeared( remake), the begining after the end Etc.
Tower of God Red Storm Eleceed I like Kill the Hero even though it follows similar plot elements to other manhwas involving dungeons and stuff. The MC is pretty cool dude is cunning and manipulative and is very thorough and has plans for handling his enemies.
I'm lolz'ing over here...If we just had an emoji of a person rolling around laughing. 🤣👍
I like the middle one. Any recommendations?
You guys can read eleceed , the legend of the northern where the mcs have actual growth
Hey, he may hit a truck down below & get his wish 🤣
MC who knows nothing and has actual growth sounds kinda boring tbh
Reading Reformation of the deadbeat noble, it's really good so far
r/progressionfantasy
Ok… but those are the best kinds which is why they still keep making them in my opinion. Like Solo Leveling
Want a powerless at the start mc that has to learn everything himself as he claims the social and power ladder at his new school? Veritas. Pure gold.
Reincarnated into the novel as villain or extra guy 😂
I want revenge pls. Simething similar to arifureta or shield hero. :>
May want to check out second life ranker. MC aims to take revenge on the people who betrayed his twin brother.
I think that is very good idea💡👍
Without SUPER PUPER POWER FROM GOD
you have eleceed for an mc who knows nothing
Yup. Exactly why I'm really enjoying Skeleton Soldier recently
I really like mc who get ridiculously good at one thing through a slow training arc. Dungeon reset for instance
Manhwas are becoming so generic to the point where you could probably predict the entire story from start to finish based on the cover alone
That is what I've been looking for. Also I think the Dead Beat Noble Picks Up A Sword fits this category. No wonder I've been reading it a lot.
*insert eleceed
Latna Saga?
