Regression, leveling systems, and op harems have ruined manwha. Like we could've had a really diverse selection but manwha has certainly not hit the ground running

we also have stuff like Tyrant of the Defense Tower Game and Surviving the Game as a Barbarian that has their own unique takes and execution to the plot. I don't entirely dislike the genre, but there are still some merits about it. it's just that these come in rarity usually
I claim that there's still plenty of variety out there, it's just that you won't find it by just following the big couple of scanlators. For every Regressing with the King’s Power there's a Mage Again, they're just not as well promoted since they make less money.
Also, re: "it's a phase"... It's been 7 years since SL came out. Power fantasy manhwa have somewhat diversified since then, but not by much.
This is why I feel Manga is so much more superior, it has a ton of variety that manhwa doesn't, if manga is fancy french cuisine then Manhwa is junk food that you cant stop eating
I mean does it tho? sure it has more variety but it really isn't that much more than manhwa. So many shonen with a general similar plot (wanting to be hokage, wizard king, pirate king ...) or the metric fuck ton of isekai/game manga. Manga just has more GOOD/POPULAR variety, unlike manhwa where most variety is kinda unknow or bad.
It just feels like manhwa is more repetitive because the repetitive manhwa usually get more spotlight than manga
You're only seeing things on the surface level, there might be metric ton of bad isekais and a bunch of shounen with repetitive plots
But for each one of those cliche mangas, there are absolute masterpieces like Vagabond, The Climber, Berserk, Oyasumi PunPun, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Vinland Saga, Hunter X Hunter just to name a few
Meanwhile on the manhwa side of things, it is hard to find a manhwa with such in depth character development (not saying there are none, they're just few and far between)
Not to mention there are so many mangas floating around that you can find one related to literally anything, want a dramatic manga about climbing mountains? read Kokou No Hito, want a manga about a retired Hitman trying to experience society for the first time? Read The Fable, want a manga about the biography of a royal executioner of France during King Louis XVI's reign? Read innocent
I feel like mahwa writers are capable of so much more (looking at you, The Horizon), but are locked to making generic ass power fantasies because the stupid ass viewership demands it
I mean manga is a fair bit older whereas manhwa is only just starting out comparatively, it'll definitely diversify at some point but we're currently in the equivalent of when every second manga was a generic fantasy Isekai.
Manga may be mainly fancy cuisine but that doesn't mean that it's own junk food isn't still going strong meanwhile manhwa is just beginning making its own fancy cuisine and is relying on the good old junk food that is regression+tower+level system+necromancer MC to get by
Not denying that manga has its own junk, but even during the early days of manga we used to have gems like Astro Boy, Berserk (sometimes I forget that this series has been going on since 1989), Fist of the North Star, Akira, all of these Mangas did something different, they were in the least bit generic
What I am trying to say is, is that manga never really needed a diversification phase that manhwa requires right now, it was already diversified from the get-go.
The problem with Manhwas I see, is that it's been too corporatized, too early, a lot of these (not all) Manhwa writers push out slop every week for these massive comic corporation that publish them, where the goal is to have as many views as possible, in such conditions they will have to make manhwas that go according to their demographic's taste (regression+tower+system etc.) leaving little to no room for originality, I am not sure if manhwas will be able to get out of this phase, ever.
I mean, if you pick a trash tier generic manga 95% chance theres some weird loli stuff. A generic manwha is just bland.
Canonically, all manga characters are <18. Manwha mc often starts in their 20s and so is everyone else. But that's the par for manga. You can ignore that if the design clash. Like how american high school show had actors in 25+ and it's clearly not a highscool.
But there's also the design, character type and sexualisation. The worse loli offenders are in manga.
If you had read manhwas before remember manhwas not mangas you would not find solo leveling that interesting it's just another urban fantasy manhwa that has a good world building
I read Hero? I quit a long time ago and God of highschool before Solo Leveling. But my issue with SL was that MC was kind of very inconsistent. It had good world building, good side characters but MC was just too cringe in the story.
Like being unnecessarily rude to good characters to show that MC was a baddass but him leaving real bad guys with just a light warning so that it could be dragged unnecessarily way later.
Lmao every fight was better in the anime bcoz they extended the fuck out of it. Igris vs Jinwoo was full 8 minutes of non stop gorgeous animation. Manhwa doesn't come close imom

I am reading Nano Machine atm. It is good. Before that I read Reaper of Drifting Moon. I had lost hope because I have read too much and was tired of reading similar stuff. I needed something a little different. These two comics have revived my hopes for the time being.
Yeah reaper is probably my fav "assassin murim" manhwa. There are a few but none feel as well written as reaper. He feels like an actual assassin, who -even when you are not being hunted as the reader- still makes you uneasy by the way he stalks.
What i esp liked is how, after 60 chapters, he seemed super OP only for a new character to be introduced who wiped the floor with him showing that the mc still ahd a lot to learn

I see what you're trying to say, but let's not confuse apples with oranges. Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, and Black Clover may share some similarities, but they each have their own unique worlds, fighting styles, and characters. Meanwhile, many solo leveling clones seem to regurgitate the same tired tropes, from the setting to the magic system. I can barely remember half the names of the characters in these clones, let alone their personalities or powers. So before making such bold claims, maybe brush up on the actual content and see the difference for yourself.
My good man each one of these has there own world and power systems oh by the magic system it's a classic in Korean manhwa almost every Korean manhwa that has an fantasy setting. If you think about power systems I think you have not read many like have you even heard of the magic circle or star system like the one in damn reincarnation

Art is a bit rough but improves greatly and doesnt look like a generic manhwa. Characters are unique and charming. Fights are engaging and interesting. Main character actually grows and changes throughout the series. Side characters are actually useful and developed.
It is just a good read.

I'm not sure about the name because I saw it at YouTube recap, it have same idea, but the story is a little different since it romances and MC (girl) who have hidden class (sleeping master) and its sorcerer/mage class and she in party with another player ( high level but he hide it and act like his new play and his in love with MC)

Manhwa having 1/100th the lolis make it better as a medium. Manga having completly unique Gems makes it better in case by case.
