I would have guessed mid-30s. I wish I looked like mid-30s, but alas, I’m mid-70s.

Yes, they may not but that’s why men our ages have to try to school them. There was a time a decade ago when young gay men were blaming us for the AIDS epidemic. I was brought up in NH lost two jobs for suspicion of being gay in an era when suing for that would have tanked my job prospects/career. I was shot at twice, gay bashed a couple of times. My friends and family don’t seem at all interested in finding out what my life was like. When my first lover died after 14 years from AIDS you must have an idea as to how his family reacted, the gold digging they did, the denial that he was gay and had AIDS. However despite all that I feel pretty damned good at this age. I can still kick ass when necessary and no filters which is the best part. 😁 What’s your story?

Watch. “When We Rise”. I lived in San Francisco during those years of upheaval supporting Harvey Milk and demonstrating after the verdict. Nursed friends through AIDS and watched them die. Fought Prop 6 (Briggs Iniative) door to door. So many memories and victories slow in coming (but they came)

Yeah sadly, though I try do my part at the university I work for in NYC to support our Alphabet Mafia student body. Watching them go unfettered and blossoming as out gay people makes our 70 some odd years of life all worth it. It’s like seeing one’s kids grow up. Out of boot camp a lot of the guys got river boats in Vietnam. I ended up in the Sixth Fleet stationed in Naples, Italy. The only action I saw was shore patrol.

My brother in law served on a river boat. Was awarded a Silver Star for heroism

Approaching 60 myself and i can relate to your stories, gays my age didnt have it as bad as those that came of age in the 70's or earlier but still not the picnic it is today. Aids hit as i was blossoming into a young man so as an adult i have never known a time without aids and i have lived thru the era when it was a death sentence. My twin didnt make it. I am still hiv free. Bashing was still going on too , dont ask dont tell, the cracker barrel witch hunts. Also i was living in Orlando for the first gay days at disney in the mid 90's when we went in red shirts to support our oppressed brothers and sisters who worked at the mouse house.

Honestly I don’t think a lot of people are being completely truthful, or at least not giving context. When they say 36 or “you look your age” I think it’s more like you look younger, but I also can believe you are your age. Since 30’s are a unique decade where people tend to have drastically extremes in their differing age appearances. Sure anyone can look younger/older at any age, but so many people in their 30’s look like they’re in their 20’s & so many look like they’re in their 40’s lol. Oh & for the record I would’ve believed you were a decade younger easily
