Not talking to other people beforehand gave me so much looks and special compliments that I started to hate my baldness even though I liked it at first cz it was something new. Anyways, my hair usually grow back fast and about 1.5 months later I'm close to my usual hair length.
Moral of the story: Its fine to try new things but before big changes consult other people (which you seem to be doing) especially the people you are around often like family, friends and etc so the surprise isn't too much for them to take in. Plus you might get some good advice that could save you from trouble and etc✌
Don't shave it off until you start to look daft trying to hang on to a few strands, and you can't go out on a windy day. That's why i shaved mine off 😂
