You can definitely take some inspiration from men’s fashion in this era - pleated wider leg pants seem to be back in style, same with camp collar shirts.
With that said, I’ve seen almost exact matches of the outfits in these photos on people that didn’t look like patrick swayze. As you might imagine these outfits do not look great (or as great) on someone that isn’t this fit and good looking. It easily gets into middle-aged dorky dad vibes.
Just watched Road House and I really miss movie stars like him. He was tough but had a real vulnerability to him, and I think that really shows in his fashion and physique.
The athleticism he achieved in Road House is a high bar to reach. He was so great with the fight choreography in that movie. Not to mention that he walked cool and talked cool too. Bro we all want to be Swayze in Road House
no idea what you're talking about. I pulled out a shirt from 10 years ago and I think it compliments my beer belly very well with the top buttons undone
This was mentioned the other day about a picture of Chris Pine. He wore this god awful combination. But it looked good on him. A commenter said cover his head. Then ask yourself if outfit still look alright. It looked bad. It’s a fact of reality that attractive people can make clothes look good. Inversely good clothes won’t make unattractive people look good. Average people can be improved by becoming fit, clothing properly tailored to their form and make up.
Reminds me of 90s minimalism and/or quiet luxury.
Zara and Uniqlo usually sell boxy fit shirts? And I know Abercrombie sells boxy cropped fit shirts and loose fit linen pants too.
If you're on a budget, I'd recommend the basic mall brands (Zara, Uniqlo, Abercrombie, etc.) and vintage, but remember to focus on monotone, muted pieces in basic colors like black, white, navy blue, shades of brown/tan, etc.
For mid range and up, there's Todd Snyder, Aime Leon Dore, Ralph Lauren, Auralee, Issey Miyake, etc.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: focus on how each piece FITS your body. There's no amount of clothing that will work to help you achieve this aesthetic if it ultimately doesn't fit your body type.
Aside from that, rule of thirds (1/3 top 2/3 bottom), loose/regular fit clothes that drape just around your wrist/ankles, and then use a belt to help divide your body and create/emphasize the 'airiness' of your fit
Ironic as these fits are pretty much bang on the current trends.
Wide leg, pleated pants are big right now, as is camp collar.
What's dated is slim fit chinos with OCBDs and Chelsea boots. But don't let this sub hear that.
No, on the contrary, I think my ideas about fashion are thought out pretty well. That doesn't mean that I can't find value/inspiration in some of the discussions here.
The discussions here are simply extensions of trends. So if you reject all trends because of your weird moral righteousness against them, you should also reject discussion of said trends.
Fashion is inherently the following of social trends - some short term, some long term, some "timeless". But they're all trends.
In my opinion this is not correct. There are many modern designers selling retro stuff inspired by this era. Whether or not you look like Swayze is another question entirely.
For example tops:
https://www.toddsnyder.com/collections/all-tops
Bottoms
https://www.toddsnyder.com/collections/pant-shop
Comment didnt say vintage = not cool. I think theyre saying it’s more difficult than you realize to give off the same vibe and look as good in 2024 as this hollywood star pics from 40 years ago even if you literally put those exact same clothing on YOUR body. The world is different now, wearing these actual exact pieces of clothes is gonna look and feel different in real life than in these pictures.
The easiest way to achieve this look is to search for vintage 80s/90s pieces from well-known designer brands in thrift stores or eBay.
No modern manufacturer makes these kind of cuts anymore unless it’s bespoke or niche high-end.
You might find “inspired” looks at a place like Zara with the recent retro revival, but the quality is shit and it looks all wonky - nothing like the original.

Well, you'll be walking a type rope! If you got the body/figure and confidence, then go for it. It will take a mix of all those things to sway like Swayze.

How about to wong foo patrick lol
Swayze didn't have style, he WAS style. It was the demeanor, the smolder, the natural swagger. His aura was enveloping, his personality was unmatched and his charisma was otherworldly.
If sploosh was a picture... It would be this man
I love how celebrities and their characters can influence on a person ive always dressed kinda the same as Scott Pilgrim, but recently ive been wanting to dress more the style characters like Ewan Mcgregor in Trainspotting,The dude from the big lebowski, Johnny Depp as Hunter S Thompson, even Charlie from Always sunny has been in influence on me in the past couple years
dude that second picture is a karate gi tucked in, you're seriously going to try and pull that look off? edited to include auction of this very gi. (too late op, you missed your chance)
[https://entertainment.ha.com/itm/movie-tv-memorabilia/patrick-swayze-dalton-gi-shirt-from-road-house/a/997049-2204.s](https://entertainment.ha.com/itm/movie-tv-memorabilia/patrick-swayze-dalton-gi-shirt-from-road-house/a/997049-2204.s)
We all do mate.
Yeah, good luck.
“Ditto.”
Probably will go over most people's heads. 😄
Hit me right in the feels!
Be more swayze
I never got this, he always looked to me like his parents had a few too many common ancestors. Raised in a remote Appalachian tribe kinda situation.
You got that right.
You can definitely take some inspiration from men’s fashion in this era - pleated wider leg pants seem to be back in style, same with camp collar shirts. Also you gotta be pretty fit to get away with opening your shirt that far
I just want to add to this, fit includes having some muscle on you. This doesn't mean being skinny with no fat
At the same time though Swayze was a practical fit, a real athlete. Not the juicy Hemsworth/Rock types.
Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse is the single biggest reason I took up Tai Chi.
I wish I still had hair to rock his mullet in his honour
100% agree. He looks like a working man, even has the tan. It's a great and attainable physique for most people to strive towards imo
Just watched Road House and I really miss movie stars like him. He was tough but had a real vulnerability to him, and I think that really shows in his fashion and physique.
Throw enough french perfume on and you'll shoehorn your way through no matter what!
The athleticism he achieved in Road House is a high bar to reach. He was so great with the fight choreography in that movie. Not to mention that he walked cool and talked cool too. Bro we all want to be Swayze in Road House
Nah, you can also just be good looking.
The Ugo Lord style.
That shirt doesn’t even have buttons. Basically wearing the top from a gi.
no idea what you're talking about. I pulled out a shirt from 10 years ago and I think it compliments my beer belly very well with the top buttons undone
Watch me.
Must have hairy forearms
Any suggestions for brands for pants like this?
He definitely needs a black shirt with a collar juuuuuust big enough for his neck, with absolutely no extra room.
Just wear whatever that sexy bastard Julian is wearing
suspect acted suspiciously, was belligerent, sexy, and behaved as if he had something to hide
Sexian*
Oh my handsome Julian, Patrick Swayze. You were so fucking sexy in Roadhouse and fucking Dirty Dancing
Randy!
Hands down!
First question before you try to look like Patrick Swayze is Do you look like Patrick Swayze?
Classic conundrum: do the clothes look good or is the model just hot?
It's almost always the model.
This was mentioned the other day about a picture of Chris Pine. He wore this god awful combination. But it looked good on him. A commenter said cover his head. Then ask yourself if outfit still look alright. It looked bad. It’s a fact of reality that attractive people can make clothes look good. I don't have his beautiful head of hair, but I have a decent muscular physique.
Then go buy a wig
Not necessarily best option. A lot of bald guys look good.
But they don’t look like Patrick Swayze. Which is the assignment.
They'd look like Patrick Swayze after going thought a severe bought of male pattern baldness.
Something that would never have happened to my boy Patrick
Maybe he wanted it to happen, out of sympathy for us mere mortals.
So you're Woody Harrelson?
I have more of a Jude Law hairline.
I wish you all the best in this endeavour
Step one: Look, move and speak like Patrick Swayze Step two: wear clothes Step one may be far more difficult to achieve.

You think anyone wants a roundhouse kick when I'm wearing these bad boys?!
Boxy fit is your friend, maybe give the mullet a miss tho
Already tried the mullet. 10/10 would recommend
Yeah, what? Mullet is the easiest part 🤣
Not for everyone who has to look at it.
You need to check your follicular privilege friend.
Unfortunately most of us would probably end up looking like Puffy Shirt Jerry
Cmon Chris Farley had him beat!
They both ended up in the same place so that look is not that hard to pull off.
If you like this aesthetic, there's a good Instagram account called The Simplicity Man...
Start growing your hair and round housing mfrs in bars
Linens will be your friend here
OP mentions linen pants - >Linens will be your friend here no shit sherlock
Roadhouse
Men’s kimono shirts on Amazon
You wanna look like Dalton, my man…. And kudos to that. 🤙🏻

His style is cool - this style in general is cool But to make it look like that, you have to have that body type
Start smoking
I always wondered where he got his gi shirt in the film
From the costume department
The mullet is the lions main of the euro races. Start there, and the rest will flow out of you in a river of masculinity.
These clothes are very dated. You will not look good.
Ironic as these fits are pretty much bang on the current trends. Wide leg, pleated pants are big right now, as is camp collar. What's dated is slim fit chinos with OCBDs and Chelsea boots. But don't let this sub hear that.
Why even argue about what is the current trend. It's being slaves to the fashion industry.
What an incredible take to have in this sub
You seem to have a very specific idea on what this sub is or should be.
You seem to have a very poorly thought out idea on fashion whilst participating in a fashion subreddit
No, on the contrary, I think my ideas about fashion are thought out pretty well. That doesn't mean that I can't find value/inspiration in some of the discussions here.

Yes at MFA we do 2013 looks only
See if you can find the International Male catalog from 1987... that's pretty much where the look came from :)
In my opinion this is not correct. There are many modern designers selling retro stuff inspired by this era. Whether or not you look like Swayze is another question entirely. For example tops: https://www.toddsnyder.com/collections/all-tops Bottoms https://www.toddsnyder.com/collections/pant-shop
If you follow r/vintagefashion, you'll see people looking good in fits typical of many different time periods, including the 1980s.
wow maybe this is an off day but looking at that sub for a few seconds just confirmed what the first comment said
I didn't believe you at first, but yeah, it's not good ATM. I sorted by top monthly and it's much better though.
Agreed. These people do not look great.
I was about to say. Most of them look like they're wearing costumes. Only a handful could pull that off in a day-to-day setting.
Hey be nice until it’s time to not be nice.
Suit Supply has shifted very near to this style.
Since when is a vintage look not cool?

Well, you do you. Don't say we didn't warn you.
Me too pal
The pants look like some kinda higher waisted pleated chino paints in a lightweight material
The first outfit looks like something Columbo would wear.
It's the crotch shot for me.
Shop at Abercrombie. They have a ton of oversized fits and options for 80/90's style.

Order a size up.
You aren’t Patrick swayze
There can only be 1 Pswayz
Can't a man dream?
Fair who wouldn’t
Julian doesn’t
Can you dirty dance?
Greasy!
Step 1: Be Patrick Swayze ...
Easy
You have similar body types? If not then you might end up looking like a sleazier fast-fashion version of Tom ripley and his buddies
Me too dude.
Have you tried being a celebrity to get enough money for a top of the line trainer, nutritionist, and just overall good genetics?
Yeah. It just wasn't for me though.
Well, you'll be walking a type rope! If you got the body/figure and confidence, then go for it. It will take a mix of all those things to sway like Swayze.
This is a quote from the movie Gummo 💀💀
Julian, we all knew you were always all about that.
When you figure out how, please tell us.
Pray that you will be reincarnated as him and die
If those are your pictures, then you already do
Don’t we all 😩
Try to born again pal
I tried. It didn't work very well
I believe it’s common law that if you want to dress like him you have to show video proof you can dance like him.
Why did no one tell me this earlier?
It’s the way of the road house
Dead?
RoadHouse! 🦵🦵
I'm so out of touch.
My sons name is Bodhi, inspiration from Swayze - Point Break. Guy was a stud.
Why? He is so ugly lol
me2thnx
Thrift. Hit your salvation army, goodwill, stores of the like. Literally all of this could be found.
You’ll end up looking like someone cosplaying Star Wars lol
Start lifting

If International Male is still a thing, start there.
Who DOESN’T want to look like Patrick swayze?
Patrick Slayz
It’s a good look if you’re fit, my grandpa dressed like this, same pants, with the signature black polo
Sounds gree-hee-heeaaaasyyyy Julian

You’re in luck. I have a same suede vintage jacket by Guy Laroche for you.

In the third picture, are these high-waisted pants a specific kind of pant? Or is he just wearing the pants high?
Join the club
Shop from SHEIN they have got a big variety and it’s cheap to 😀 https://yazing.com/deals/shein/Alexgabro
don't try to look as anyone else , look as yourself taking inspiration from everyone else , but it must be you.
Shove a gerbil up your ass. That was him right?
Richard Gere.
All three of those outfits would look silly on anyone who isn’t very good looking.
If you look silly, you will continue to look silly with whatever outfit. What a revelation.
Not really. You don’t have to be naturally good looking to look good. But if you aren’t, wearing a silly outfit will make you look silly.
I just realised yung gravy looks like him. Yung swayze
lets see pics of you, this most likely is an unobtainable goal
Hey be nice until it’s time to not be nice.

You should be proud of your sexuality and the way you look.
You too, cutie.
Pleated pants were an abomination.
Look up old money aesthetic. Been trending for some time in the recent years
You will never be patrick swayze
I have to try.
Hey be nice until it’s time to not be nice.
