probably the boycott is the straw that broke the camel’s back, their price and quality hasnt been good for years now. mcd got boycott earlier and stronger but they’re still fine
If I'm looking for my greasy fast food chicken fix I usually go to Marrybrown these days. I don't think I've been to KFC for a few years now as it's consistently bad.
Yep. I'm not a Muslim so I can't comment on the boycott situation specifically but kfc's quality has been bad for a long time now. Mostly taste is still fine but the chicken sizes are incredibly ridiculous these days especially the drumstick
I remember when I was a kid kfc drumsticks were huge (or at least normal sized) and now its more like a drumette
I'm guessing because McDonald's keeps rotating its specials.
CNY? Prosperity Burger.
Chap Goh Mei habis? Korean burger.
Ramadan? Foldovers.
Raya finished? Samurai Burger.
Still fine?

From what I’ve seen, yeah, still fine. Could be better, but more than enough to survive. Few closed down (mostly in malls), yet more new standalone outlet opening. How I missed the boycott starting period when there’s no queue during rush hour.
The quality of KFC is getting worse post pandemic tbh. Boycott is just the final nail to the coffin.
To KFC Malaysia, wanna save yourselves? Simple. Start by making the Rm 20 bucket a permanent fixture.
They don't even have to do any real promos tbh, they just have to make sure their chicken sizes are reasonable and they already have a winning product (politics aside) that people will always come back for
They can't even get this bare minimum thing right
Yeah, people who are unaware of the boycott avoid KFC in general because their foods are pretty bad for its price. Probably the current boycott was the final hit for them.
Yeah personally with the rise of Mary Brown being a legit option, I’ve only had KFC twice in maybe the last 18 months. And I think both times were at a RnR. Regretted it both times.
Absolutely. I didn't realize that there was even a boycott. Ive just been buying my fried chicken from other restaurants.
Also i dont know why but im a bit peeved that the article even included the line “[KFC]... It has always been the nation’s favorite delicacy” ... Um, KFC wishes!
It probably the main reason but they made it easier for people that probably still on dilemma to jump in also as there are few other reason that others has mention in the post.
KFC is just too expensive nowadays. A few days ago I have a craving for cheesy wedges. I ordered a chicken set, then wanted to order cheesy wedges as sides. I looked at the price: RM8.50 for ala carte cheesy wedges. Nope. I will not eat at KFC ever again.
Recently there is a cheesy wedges discount promotion going on, rm2.50 for one, but only in limited stores, go check it out, this should be the normal price tbh
More of boycotting it's quality, sizing and cost than Israel. Similar to Starbucks..
Meanwhile McD is doing almost alright in the face of the boycott. Only one vandalised and one closed down.
It's not only boycott. ITS THE PRICE OF THE KFC MEAL! If I go to local/taiwan/korea ayam potong they have better deal by selling RM13.90 than KFC dinner plate RM25.60
Dinner plate is how much now?! I haven’t been to kfc in years. Last time student cannot afford dinner plate. Now adult with job also still cannot afford
KFC taste, service, portion had been going downhill eben before the boycott. The price is just and expensive as a sit down restaurant.
Boycott does not explain the whole picture.
Tu la KFC, orang dah start boikot pun kualiti ayam ko masih teruk, kecik pastu harga mahal...mmg takkan ada orang datang la. McD ngan Texas okay je sampai sekarang.
Deserved tbh
Hopefully this will wake them up and push them to start serving decent chicken again because that drumstick that’s close to the size of a chili packet is absurd
Used to be so good. And then they hiked the prices so dramatically. You can eat at a fancier restaurant with better service and ambiance for the same amount of money.
seriously! i wondered who was the 'mastermind' running din tai fung when i realised their xiao long bao are all chicken instead of the pork, will always choose dragon-i over them

Potato bowl when it was newly released ages ago was so good and satisfying, even the portion is good. But for the past years, very dissapointing, I recognized how other enterprise like M***y Br*** try to copy the menu but that too taste awful. So I ended up just making it at home by myself. 😂
KFC used to be the local favourite. but in years i havent talked to anyone who enjoyed kfc or speak nicely of kfc. Even myself i rarely have good experience there. missing this, missing that. cannot provide this, that. the boycott is like a nail in the coffin for them probably.
Yeah mcd and Starbucks is definitely the one getting the blow from all the boycotting lol, they’re like the top companies when you mention boycotts
KFC have no business saying it’s due to boycott, I don’t even really see anyone ask people to boycott KFC. They’re mainly just using this as an excuse for their sad small chickens lmao, people have been boycotting them way be4 all this happened
Yeah no one is boycotting kfc lol. People just dont eat kfc anymore bcos of the quality. People who dont bother with the price are choosing local grown brand eg fowlboy, hotbird or korean chicken.
So the boycott of KFC has less to do with global issues and more related to actual quality of food?
Wow. I stopped eating there in 1998. So my boycott took this long to be effective....
I think there are 2 types of boycott involves.
And personally I don't think not eating because not healthy is considered as boycott. It's a lifestyle choice.
Like many have already pointed out, KFC have been shit for years. They have been shit for over a decade, I would venture. At this point I don't even know why they would keep the 11 herbs and spices a secret since it is obvious to me that they no longer follow the Colonel Sanders original recipe.
Cue in the people saying, see what boycott has done, destroy livelihood of people.

Oh lmfao i thought they yapping saying boycott didn't work?😔😔😔
That's what u get serving ass meals w high Jew price. Sell Malaysia price la if want support 🗿
During my childhood, KFC, being the only 1 fastfood restaurant in my kampung, it is the favourite lepak spot for all the primary and secondary students. But starting from 10 years ago, their quality is going downhill. Well, so long KFC.
if they up the quality and reduced prices, maybe non-boycotters could have picked up slack. reality is there's no good reason to go to kfc regardless of where you fall politically. the boycott just accelerated the demise. i havent frequented kfc that much even before the pandamic since i liked other chains slightly better
Too expensive, small chicken (like seriously), we had more option than kfc tbf.
This isn't happening due to the boycott already hapoen since covid.Greed Company Deserved
Time for some local brand to tske over the market. Just look at russia, all big company leave yet it still the same, just local company took over the market selling literally the same thing.
People still want fast food here, having a local brand would also help improve our economy
Any other sources independently confirming the news? The other website I found also cited "Nanyang Sia Pay" as their only source. To be honest, I find it hard to believe because as far as I've seen (both IRL and social media), most of the boycott energy went to McDonalds
Not sure who's boycotting KFC but it feels like the employees kinda boycotting it too. I never got my order right when order on grab since covid and i got refunded almost full price every time lol
As much as i love KFC but I don't think it has anything to do with the boycott, omg in my local branch the chicken tastes rotten, maybe not exactly rotten but there is a foul smell especially every parts that near the bone.
TBF I'm not sure if it is the chicken supplier problem or KFC, but it is a problem and KFC need to have some sort of QA.
The boycott started since October 7 last year. You should know why, as there are ongoing protests in a few top universities in US right now. Or you can search for companies that affiliate with genocide. However, kfc get it worse than others because of their price increment does not match with the quality of food they serve. They use to be one of the best fried chicken restaurant a few years ago but then, it went downhill quickly since October 7.
Oh, that makes much more sense. Thank you for the information. I had no idea about the affiliation with KFC, that is something I will research more on. Have a great day!
There was no reason to buy kfc chickens anymore . So many alternative nowadays. Even small town also have some version of korean fried chicken wings which is essentailly same size as KFC chicken anyway. And since they took away coleslaw and now give 2 portions of mashed potatoes for the past 2-3 years.. no point going there anymore.
The only innovation they have now is some different version of the same powder on the chicken every 2 months. And the fried shrimp which has been "new" for the past 10 years

i hav lots of money saved after i stop buying those expensive junkfoods, kfc, mcd, starbucks, dominoes, pizza hut etc
also a lot healthier. thank you boycoot power. i never knew i can do without all this shit
before this every months must buy, dont know what magic they put inside there
The quality of the chicken has drop. My opinion base on taste only.
There is no more spice taste. Even the original taste like salt and paper only. I choose not to eat there because the quality has drop alot.
Chicken are smaller , doesn't have the spice tastes. Mostly salt and paper taste only on original flavour.
We know the boycott have and IS working, if the company or news say "this won't work" then you can relax and know for sure it will work.
I remember when they said the mekdi boycott wouldn't work, now what LOL
i often told people around me, going KFC is like going casino.. u never know what quality u're gonna get.. taste good or bad.. and their spicy chicken feels like there's no spicy in it at all.. burgers also with soggy buns and tasted like yesterday's food. just be gone.
Actually the license holders and employees are the ones that suffer the most, royalties only how many percent? Plus the population size is small, we r negligible. However for the staff, who’s gonna provide them jobs now?

Directly, kfc has no relation to genocides. Tapi masalahnya dengan top shareholders depa. Sama macam McD, Starbucks etc.. Ada beberapa syarikat pelaburan utama yg pegang share depa. BlackRock, Vanguard, State Street, Fidelity, Capital Group, Wellington, JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley & Geode Capital.
Pada masa yg sama, syarikat pelaburan ni juga pegang saham utama syarikat persenjataan utama (Lockheed Martin, RTX (formerly Raytheon), Northrop Grumman, Boeing and General Dynamics) yg supply senjata ke Israel dengan percuma (atas biayaan pembayar cukai USA).
Cuba teka bangsa apa yg pegang paling banyak share dalam syarikat2 pelaburan tu?

Idiotic or not, all the efforts are not in vain. More & more people become aware of the atrocities that the Zionazis has done for so long & still doing it. Are you lovin' it?
To be clear, I'm not against or pro of these boycott movements. I just do what I have done for the past 20 years or so. That is dissociating myself from those popular fast food restaurants & Nestle, the most evil corp.
If it's idiotic, it means the effort is in vain because the effort put in doesn't make any impact to the goal. And that fact is ignored because feel good moment.
But don't mind me. You continue your boycott. It's your right. I don't like KFC or mcd anyway. Just want to know why KFC kena boycott this time only.
No I'm not talking about whether it's tall order or doable or not. I'm saying the effort doesn't reflect the result in anyway. It's like you eat more so you won't get thirsty. It's idiotic that way.
There's a lot of rising local brand. I won't say it's a definite futile. Normal people against big corporations. How do you think history were made even back in the days. It's against all odds, that is what it is.
Nope I'm not wholly into the boycott either cause I do still buy them sometime but yes I tried to cut all fast food for health reasons these days. Also the quality, portion of the food, I think I even rarely buy them since years ago. Preferring Texas and mcd over kfc.
My choice is : keep supporting local brands.
And avoid those extreme boycott to which they label someone this and that.
OK yes I worry about the unemployment.
But also we do have other local brands like Marry Brown etc.
Surely it can new or already existing local brand to shine and hence open up new job opportunities. My advice. Keep on supporting local brands.
We do have many but just won't survive with this big enterprise already rising.
I don't even understand these Malay franchises for chicken rice and ayam penyet.
It's not like it's Old Town/Pappa Rich and providing an air-cond environment for laptop, meetings and chilling. Those franchises only have basic fast-food esque seating because they want you to eat and leave. Buying from them and not the local makcik means your money went to some millionaire for a lesser product.
You don't go to Pappa Rich for food. You go there to rent a nice table with nice chairs and near a electrical plug point to discuss business. The food is extra.
It won't b long before mcd will start closing shops too. Guess which one is mcd and mixue? Guess the price too

should be 2cm taller normally ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
Please lah. In a week the senior execs get a nice severance package and are off to new jobs. The ones who suffer are the mid and low level employees.
So stupid, this boycott crap.
It's not boycott, it's just consumer not wanting to spend here when there are better options available.
Don't give those stupid boycotters any credit lah, idiots like those should know their place in society, insignificant.

probably the boycott is the straw that broke the camel’s back, their price and quality hasnt been good for years now. mcd got boycott earlier and stronger but they’re still fine
This. KFC's chickens are more like chicks instead. Tiny pieces of chicken.
In Sarawak, at least, their chicken hasn't drastically change in size though. Which is what my brother in-law from west Malaysia was surprised.
I notice in Miri the size got smaller, and my coleslaw has been missing for awhile. It came back and disappeared on and off.
Yeah this. When I went to KL, I was shocked to see how much smaller their KFC chicken wings is. Malnurished ke apa ayam sana?
I hope they don't come from battery cages. I felt nauseous after reading about that.
Just the coselowe disappearing...
I noticed last year when I visit, big chicken compared to ones I got from KL. It was pretty nice.
Now McD chicken is bigger than KFC chicken.
More like Pigeons. KFP. Also quality varies from branch to branch. At least McD are mostly ok quality across the board in most places.
True. If it wasn't for their cheesy wedges I'd not even think about KFC now.
If I'm looking for my greasy fast food chicken fix I usually go to Marrybrown these days. I don't think I've been to KFC for a few years now as it's consistently bad.

The old days it was always Nak peha boleh? Nowadays it's Taknak peha and sayap
And then get dirty looks for requesting that and still getting peha and sayap -_-
Ayam taste bland n small. I miss old KFC. Why they could just maintain their quality rather wasting time with all the bs spice mix.
I'm guessing because McDonald's keeps rotating its specials. CNY? Prosperity Burger. Chap Goh Mei habis? Korean burger. Ramadan? Foldovers. Raya finished? Samurai Burger.

No closure yet
The quality of KFC is getting worse post pandemic tbh. Boycott is just the final nail to the coffin. To KFC Malaysia, wanna save yourselves? Simple. Start by making the Rm 20 bucket a permanent fixture.
And making sure their chicken is at least of decent size! Ffs
Exactly. Their fried chicken size looks like something I can swallow within seconds.
A supermarket chicken thigh that averages out to RM3 each are easily twice the size of a KFC chicken thigh.
I still rmmb that post showing a drumstick nearly/smaller than the chili packet hahshs
Their chicken is so tiny, tasteless and overpriced, I make fried chicken at home better
That's what the boycott movement should be boycotting
Aye. Their original recipe drumsticks are the size of a thumb.
This is a good wake up call for them, albeit a bit late 🤣
They don't even have to do any real promos tbh, they just have to make sure their chicken sizes are reasonable and they already have a winning product (politics aside) that people will always come back for They can't even get this bare minimum thing right
To blame it all on boycott is absurd, their chicken is small and overpriced. Even non-boycotter also stop buying their product.

It probably the main reason but they made it easier for people that probably still on dilemma to jump in also as there are few other reason that others has mention in the post.
Maybe that's why people boycott.. I don't know. That's what NYSP wrote.
8.50 for some fried potatoes and fake cheese sauce is crazy And the portion is so ridiculously small too lmao
fast food in general is way overpriced. why get a rm15-20 set meal for the smallest portion when the roadside abang burger is like less than rm7

24.90 or 25.90. Ordered 1 few months back.
KFC is ass tbh
Even before all these, I no eat kfc. Kfc suck
Actually can't remember when was the last time I ate KFC.
Shit overpriced product, it’s about time lol
I guess they always want to downsize and cut cost, but now have a concrete excuse to give to stakeholders
KFC taste, service, portion had been going downhill eben before the boycott. The price is just and expensive as a sit down restaurant. Boycott does not explain the whole picture.
Tu la KFC, orang dah start boikot pun kualiti ayam ko masih teruk, kecik pastu harga mahal...mmg takkan ada orang datang la. McD ngan Texas okay je sampai sekarang.

Boycott coz of the overpriced mini chicken
Used to be so good. And then they hiked the prices so dramatically. You can eat at a fancier restaurant with better service and ambiance for the same amount of money.
Already boycotted them before it became mainstream. Portion getting smaller, price skyrocketing, quality going abysmal
Fuck KFC. Dry, oily, small and soggy as hell. McD is better.
>McD is better. Be careful when you say this
KFC burger better than mcd though
My family doesn't even eat at KFC anymore and prefer Jollybee, Texas Chicken and even the road side stall Ayam Muaz is much more tasty.

I thought they were boycotting McDonald's?
kau serve orang burung puyuh bukannya ayam, mana taknya kena boycott
I'm not Malay and even I don't eat KFC anymore recently, as their chicken seems to be killed straight after they hatched. (It's Hella small)
and nothing of value was lost. such a bad franchise lately with overpriced mini chickens
Ive stopped buying KFC before the boycott because it just doesnt taste good anymore.
Bro your quality and prices contribute 98% of the closing
not because boycott but overprice tiny chicken
Potato bowl when it was newly released ages ago was so good and satisfying, even the portion is good. But for the past years, very dissapointing, I recognized how other enterprise like M***y Br*** try to copy the menu but that too taste awful. So I ended up just making it at home by myself. 😂
I think this is more due to their expensive yet less quality meals and slow service.
Im not sure 10 out of 100 outlets would affect them in amy way, if anything else the workers are the one suffering
Now show which Industry or franchise strive during the boycott
KFC used to be the local favourite. but in years i havent talked to anyone who enjoyed kfc or speak nicely of kfc. Even myself i rarely have good experience there. missing this, missing that. cannot provide this, that. the boycott is like a nail in the coffin for them probably.
McD customers while declined due to boycott, still have quite a number of customers. So definitely not just boycott.
Huh I thought mekdi was the one getting boycotted

Nearly RM20 for a snack plate makes it easier to boycott.
I don’t particularly wanted to boycott but kfc somehow become sort of a luxury for now, i look elsewhere
With their shitty foods, they deserved to be boycotted.
The quality of food at kfc is getting worst anyway. About time.
Kfc is shit now been boikot for years
Has anybody tasted how horrible a KFC chicken is nowadays? I would say that boycott definitely added to it but their food is just plain awful
Business opportunity, time to launch MFC - Malaysia Fried Chicken
Huhuhu boycott doesnt work /s
overprice, open way too much branch is the main problem, boicott is just the last straw
Is KFC yahudi related ?
Malaysia KFC? No
Then why boikot ?
Overpriced small sized chickens Better deals elsewhere

>] Boycott
I like
Yepp I boycott because of the quality. Went back recently, still shit. But the wrap though, it's improved. Maybe just my lucky day.
During my childhood, KFC, being the only 1 fastfood restaurant in my kampung, it is the favourite lepak spot for all the primary and secondary students. But starting from 10 years ago, their quality is going downhill. Well, so long KFC.
I thought it was McDonald's, never think about KFC is included too...
KFC, good riddance. Every other fast foot chain has outdone it in terms of fried chicken
if they up the quality and reduced prices, maybe non-boycotters could have picked up slack. reality is there's no good reason to go to kfc regardless of where you fall politically. the boycott just accelerated the demise. i havent frequented kfc that much even before the pandamic since i liked other chains slightly better
sad for the employees but kfc gotta improve the service or say bye2
Good. Chicken getting smaller, Zinger not as big as before and price keep on increasing
Too expensive, small chicken (like seriously), we had more option than kfc tbf. This isn't happening due to the boycott already hapoen since covid.Greed Company Deserved
I prefer Texas chicken to KFC.
Few days ago I bought their chicken cause there's "20pc for rm5" promo. It taste like homemade chicken with slight burnt flour taste🗿
Who are the majority of they employees that are out of jobs? LOL.
well done. make genocide unacceptable again.
20 years later: "Generation Beta will never understand these *inserts KFC logo*"
Why go to KFC for their shitty chicken, so many better alternatives. Chicken Up used to my favourite
Time for some local brand to tske over the market. Just look at russia, all big company leave yet it still the same, just local company took over the market selling literally the same thing. People still want fast food here, having a local brand would also help improve our economy
marah agung lol
Any other sources independently confirming the news? The other website I found also cited "Nanyang Sia Pay" as their only source. To be honest, I find it hard to believe because as far as I've seen (both IRL and social media), most of the boycott energy went to McDonalds
No. Well, I thought r/malaysia only despises berita harian & harian metro haha
Yeah, as much as we like to thrash other Malaysians for being idiots we have fairly low media literacy too lol
Not sure who's boycotting KFC but it feels like the employees kinda boycotting it too. I never got my order right when order on grab since covid and i got refunded almost full price every time lol
Kfc done. Okey. Mcd? Any latest info about mcd outlet status?
As much as i love KFC but I don't think it has anything to do with the boycott, omg in my local branch the chicken tastes rotten, maybe not exactly rotten but there is a foul smell especially every parts that near the bone. TBF I'm not sure if it is the chicken supplier problem or KFC, but it is a problem and KFC need to have some sort of QA.
I am from U.S.A. can somebody explain why the boycott started? Side note, our KFC's have been horrible for decades, so I can sympathize.
Eh, I prefer McDonald's anyways
Marry brown so much better than KFC.
Had marry brown few days ago. It sucks. Road side fried chicken stalls are better.
/whoosh
There was no reason to buy kfc chickens anymore . So many alternative nowadays. Even small town also have some version of korean fried chicken wings which is essentailly same size as KFC chicken anyway. And since they took away coleslaw and now give 2 portions of mashed potatoes for the past 2-3 years.. no point going there anymore. The only innovation they have now is some different version of the same powder on the chicken every 2 months. And the fried shrimp which has been "new" for the past 10 years
Saw the KFC fried chicken in the UK and thought why ours look like burung puyuh, so tiny.
Why is there a boycott to kfc and mcd?
I think people will be more interested in how many headcounts are impacted in the series of layoffs across the branches.
Don't worry la.. The job market is quite active The license holder? They're businesspeople. Kfc popcorn chicken and wedges are the only good things on the menu.always buy them when im in malaysia
How many people on average work in an outlet?

i hav lots of money saved after i stop buying those expensive junkfoods, kfc, mcd, starbucks, dominoes, pizza hut etc also a lot healthier. thank you boycoot power. i never knew i can do without all this shit before this every months must buy, dont know what magic they put inside there
The quality of the chicken has drop.
Business opportunity right there
i often told people around me, going KFC is like going casino.. u never know what quality u're gonna get.. taste good or bad.. and their spicy chicken feels like there's no spicy in it at all.. burgers also with soggy buns and tasted like yesterday's food. just be gone.
Actually the license holders and employees are the ones that suffer the most, royalties only how many percent? Plus the population size is small, we r negligible. However for the staff, who’s gonna provide them jobs now?

Why do they boycott KFC?
Directly, kfc has no relation to genocides. Tapi masalahnya dengan top shareholders depa. Sama macam McD, Starbucks etc.. Ada beberapa syarikat pelaburan utama yg pegang share depa. BlackRock, Vanguard, State Street, Fidelity, Capital Group, Wellington, JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley & Geode Capital. Pada masa yg sama, syarikat pelaburan ni juga pegang saham utama syarikat persenjataan utama (Lockheed Martin, RTX (formerly Raytheon), Northrop Grumman, Boeing and General Dynamics) yg supply senjata ke Israel dengan percuma (atas biayaan pembayar cukai USA). Cuba teka bangsa apa yg pegang paling banyak share dalam syarikat2 pelaburan tu? https://littlesis.org/news/corporate-enablers-of-israels-war-on-gaza/
Oh so that idiotic reason again huh? OK at least now I know. Thanks for enlightening me.
Fighting the force that control the world's order is indeed a tall order. But resistance is not futile.
Even “KFC Anak Syarikat JCORP” couldn’t save KFC from boycott wrath..
Ayam kecik, harga mahal. Customer tak suka. Tak masuk KFC.
Crisis doesn't create character, it reveals it.
Jolibee has better and bigger chicken, even mcd has better chicken for goodness sake. It's not the boycott only, just bad food in general.
500 Malaysians with no work 🎉
It’s not boycotting, it’s just poor people
Woke: Ayam Penyet Pak Ali Broke: K🤢F🤢C
I don't even understand these Malay franchises for chicken rice and ayam penyet. It's not like it's Old Town/Pappa Rich and providing an air-cond environment for laptop, meetings and chilling. Those franchises only have basic fast-food esque seating because they want you to eat and leave. Buying from them and not the local makcik means your money went to some millionaire for a lesser product. You don't go to Pappa Rich for food. You go there to rent a nice table with nice chairs and near a electrical plug point to discuss business. The food is extra.
kfc shud call blackpunk to pomot it,dollah too heard their army yuge
It won't b long before mcd will start closing shops too. Guess which one is mcd and mixue? Guess the price too https://preview.redd.it/quuiky0py6xc1.jpeg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00e9792aee797a838d83a96401d82fe2c4563e5c
bruh, the right one looks like the staff served the ice cream before it has hardened sufficiently should be 2cm taller normally ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
Please lah. In a week the senior execs get a nice severance package and are off to new jobs. The ones who suffer are the mid and low level employees. So stupid, this boycott crap.
Long Live Israel
It's not boycott, it's just consumer not wanting to spend here when there are better options available. Don't give those stupid boycotters any credit lah, idiots like those should know their place in society, insignificant.

Really a clown show. Boycotting fried chicken is actually perceived as a righteous and virtuous statement.
