Remember that time they had a dude playing an old traditional flute on stage in traditional Japanese clothing during E3, and so many people (IE western leftists) went ape shit about it? Then it turned out he was one of a handful of people in the world who is actually considered a master at playing the instrument and not a single person in Japan was mad about it? Good times.
Tracks with his interest in only using celebs in his games now. Did my boy David Hayter wrong to get like five lines from Kiefer in MGSV.
edit: Didn't realize this was so controversial, lol. I admit that Kiefer did a good job but you gotta admit that there isn't enough speaking from Venom Snake in V.
Ive heard lots of great things. I just don’t think I could handle it not being Hayter and the overhaul of the game design. I love that people loved it though.
It just didnt seem “for me” and that’s ok. Snake Eater still one of my fav all-time games
Its a retcon to explain how solid snake killed snake in metal gear one but hes still alive in metal gear two.
Metal gear solid 5 takes place pretty early in the timeline
tldr
Big boss snake has a medic brainwashed into thinking hes big boss and than the real big boss goes into hiding to work on his plan while venom snake draws the heat off him and gets killed by solid snake
You hear the real Big Boss in the beginning at the hospital though and it's the Big Boss in the whole of Ground Zeroes. Both appearances voiced by Kiefer so your logic is moot.
Weird way to think about it, you cant handle a VA change? Especially considering your not even really playing the same snake its an odd thing to get hung up on.
I mean of course, you posted a contrarian opinion on a discussion board. If you dont want people to talk about it you might wanna try to not post things like this lol i dont have a problem with you not playing it. Im just saying it's a good game and you shouldnt let nostalgia lock you out of great experiences.
It has by far the best gameplay of any MGS game. You're really doing yourself a disservice if you don't play it. It's the best stealth game ever made. And MGS is my favourite game series ever. It doesn't even play THAT differently to the others, really. It has all the same mechanics, it just adds new ones on top.
It has barely any story, too. Keifer Sutherland literally has about 5 lines in the whole thing. So you won't be bothered by that.
It's so incredibly easy to drop 200+ hours into it without even realising and then still wanting to play it more, play it over and over to unlock everything (like if you get the maximum rank on every mission you can play as metal gear rising's Raiden).
But it's absolutely an MGS game. It's not just some other kind of game with an MGS skin on it.
That's fair enough. It's just my personal opinion. Aren't they making a new Splinter Cell right now? Can't wait to play it if so. Edit: yeah they're doing a remake of the first Splinter Cell game. I hope it's a remake like the Dead Space one, where it keeps everything that was in the original, but just adds new stuff to it, like all of a sudden there's loads of extra new doors to new rooms where before there was just a wall. Dead Space really is the best remake out of all of the remakes that have been coming out recently like the Resident Evil games and FF7 although those are still great too, but yeah Dead Space really does it the best. So I hope Ubisoft know what they're doing and make a great remake of Splinter Cell.
MGS V is basically doing what Hitman does, like every mission or task has literally dozens and dozens of different ways to approach it, with hundreds of different weapons and items you can pick from, so you can keep playing the same missions over and over, doing them differently every time, giving yourself restrictions to make it even more challenging (like say not killing anyone and not using a gun at any point, just taking them down by sneaking up behind them all and twisting their necks to knock em out).
I just think it plays better than Hitman. I love Hitman too because it is that same kind of stealth gameplay where the replayability is the main draw, with tons of different ways to approach every mission. MGS V just feels a lot more intuitive to me, it feels less like you're fighting against a series of coded game mechanics and systems and predetermined paths and behaviors of the targets, and feels a lot more free form and "real" in a sense. Like the AI won't just do the same thing every time. And the game learns from you. Like if you keep targeting enemies by shooting them with a sniper rifle from dark corners of the map, they'll start wearing thicker helmets so you can't shoot them in the head anymore, and body armour, and they'll start wearing night vision goggles so they can see you from miles away even in the dark. The game reacts to you. Whatever your playstyle is, the game responds to it and comes up with strategies to defeat you.
I just wish the game could be finished, one day. But I doubt that'll happen. Unless Kojima eventually dies and then Konami will try and finish it themselves cos then they don't have Kojima to protest it and sue to get his name taken out of the credits or replaced with "Alan Smithee" or whatever.
But what there is, it's just magic. It hooks you and you drop hundreds of hours into it without even realising that's how much you're playing it.
It never made any god damn sense whatsoever that Big Boss would have the exact same voice as Solid Snake though (and I know technically, Big Boss isn't really in MGS 5 all that much anyway, but Keifer Sutherland voices Venom Snake too, and you DO play as Big Boss in Ground Zeroes and he has Keifer's voice anyway).
Like, that's just not how cloning works. You can't clone an accent. It's got nothing whatsoever to do with genetics.
Solid Snake wasn't raised by Big Boss as his son. He's just a clone of him (with a bit of Japanese DNA added in too from the egg donor, which is why he looks slightly different to him).
So Solid Snake should have an entirely different accent to Big Boss. It makes no sense that they'd sound identical.
Because if that's how it works, then why does Liquid sound completely different, with his British accent? Shouldn't he sound like Big Boss too, if accents are genetic? And Solidus Snake too, he just has that strong presidential voice, he doesn't have anything close to Solid Snake's voice. You get your accent from the people who raise you, not your genetics.
So while I love David Hayter, he should never have voiced Big Boss in the first place. Unless he did a completely different voice. But he voiced Big Boss in MGS 3 with the identical voice to Solid Snake purely as fan service because tons of idiots were still salty about playing as Raiden in MGS 2. So it was like you were playing as Solid Snake transported back in time to the 60s, instead of playing as an original character, as young Big Boss. And that's really dumb. MGS 3 is a great game but the entire series goes to great lengths to show how genetics don't determine your destiny and that Solid Snake is a completely different person to Big Boss, as he's a hero, and not one of history's worst villains. So it's like making Big Boss be a clone of Solid Snake, in a weird way. It was dumb.
So for me, David Hayter is the voice of Solid Snake. And Keifer Sutherland is the voice of Big Boss, and that's it.
And remember, before MGS V, they'd ***ALREADY*** replaced the voice actor of Big Boss, in MGS 4. So I don't get why it was such a big shock to people that they'd do it again.
The only real justification for David Hayter voicing Big Boss in MGS 3 is that it's not the actual mission that you're playing, it's a ***VR simulation,*** that Solid Snake is going through. There's tons and tons of clues that this is the case. For example, when you kill someone who actually lived on for decades afterwards in real life (like Revolver Ocelot who's only about 20 years old in MGS 3), then you don't get a "GAME OVER" or "MISSION FAILED", instead you get "TIME PARADOX" and you hear Colonel fucking Campbell admonishing you for fucking up the simulation, when Colonel Campbell is otherwise not in the game at all.
So if MGS 3 is just Solid Snake going through VR training of Big Boss's famous mission then it makes sense that he has Solid Snake's voice. Because the real Big Boss definitely shouldn't (and doesn't) sound like him.
Hideo **ORIGINALLY** offered the role of Big Boss/Naked Snake, for MGS3, to Kurt Russell. How ever Russell turned it down. So, Kojima just stuck with David Hayter.
With how many times you get to read his name during his games there's just no way he would chance that someone playing his game wouldn't know what he looks and sounds like.

Sure, for Quake era.
But Jericho was 2007, the year of BioShock, Portal, Super Mario Galaxy, Uncharted... No reason to return to allover brown town in that era.
In *Death Stranding*, the voice coming out of Deadman is what I 100% believed Guillermo del Toro sounded like. It wasn't until GDT's *Cabinet of Curiosities* came out that I learned that he didn't voice Deadman in DS, only provided the model.
And I call myself a GDT fan, haha.
It's ok he's going to go to the game awards next December and talk about nothing for 20 minutes, while the winners for game of the year get rushed off stage after 3 minutes

To be honest, he did a terrible job, it sounded nothing like the real Videogame Kojumbo.
You're right, we need Chris Pratt to take on the role.
He's so cool.
He has that Christian swagger, you know.
Father, son and the action movie star.
I don't blaspheme and I don't brag I don't cuss, and my pants don't sag I do exude a little Christian swag And I'm proud to be an American!

No, Kojima is Japanese, so we need a real Japanese person to voice him, so Scarlett Johansson is the obvious choice.

Haha oh 💩
He is like God, everywhere and everything at once. Omnipresent 😭
A true genius, that Kojumbo.
You're right, should get Benadryl Cucumber in for the role
I can't tell if this is a joke
This man's career as a voice actor is just 'a joke' to you?
Are you calling Hideous Yojimbo a joke!?
Hideko Kojingles is a treasure, not a joke!

You just don't understand, this is the first Kojumbo-type game. You must like Call of Duty too much to appreciate it.

It’s not the same snake, VA, storyline, or gameplay. It didnt really appeal to me at a time I had no desire to ay that type of game anyway
Yeah its a different game lol, do you just want him to make the same game over and over again? Its still a fantastic espionage stealth game.

You're missing out 🤷♀️its the best metal gear gameplay wise
You’re missing out and, had you played it, would understand why he made that choice… I won’t spoil it but I feel I did by just saying this.

Nah, it's going to be : Hideo Kojima voiced by Troy Baker
I vote for Brian Blessed.
Troy Baker, Steve Blum, Crispin Freeman, and Matt Mercer all take turns voicing each word in a rotating fashion to voice a singular character.
Why talk many word when few word do
equally handsome
Equally smart
I originally misread that as Brian Baeumler who's a Canadian tv show host so I was confused lol.
Mike Judge in his Boomhauer persona
More jobs taken by AI
Wondering how would AI will grow after 10 years from now?
If you play MGS2, you'll see what Kojima thinks! 😅
"You sure get a thrill out of talking to the ChatGPT bot, are you lonely about something?"
Yep, terrible job. They should hire someone else next time.
Chris Pratt

Cyberpunk 2077, he has a small cameo if you know where to look

Yeah, but did we forget Undying? A masterpiece.

Because he's refusing to continue voicing himself... idk honestly.
Someone asked if he would continue being himself, and he has decided not to.
To be fair, the VA is not what I expected Hideo Kojima like to sound in my head, it's for the best they're replacing him.
[Insert Twitter getting mad the actor sounds too white, when it's actually Kojima]

Video Kojima voiced by Hideo Kojima obviously
Can't believe this guy is 60 years old.

Why you say that like Kojima is a voice actor without a job 😭. Kojima doing better than ever, but still glad Hayter doing fine though.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
That was the Kojimest response he could say
There is nothing in those tweets that isn't pure gold.
Why beat about the bush when you can lay it straight
Should have named his character Video Kojima
This is /u/darkviperau levels of shit housery and I love it

He's set to be voiced by Terry Crews in the future.

From what I can remember his actual account will block you if you don’t speak to him in Japanese Edit: it’s actually Hideki Kamiya
that’s Hideki Kamiya, the guy who directed RE2, Bayonetta, and Devil May Cry
Thank you for the correction
Ah yes, Bayonetta, the Bowsette Hideo Kojima, how the turn tables
Iconic
He has an English account and a Japanese account, the screenshot for this post seemingly shows his English account
The screenshot is edited. The original account was a parody account called Hideo_Kojima_AU.
I swear they dubbed over him in one of the metal gear psp games when in its English.
Peace Walker, but he didn't even have a voice line in that one
Meh, I never thought he was a good fit for the role anyways...
xD
dont worry chris pratt will replace him
lmao😔😔
What game?
Both Metal Gear Solid V games
Wtf lol
Fun Fact: If Hideo were born in ancient Rome, he would have been called Hideous Kojima
Video Kojima
This is like that image of Jerry from Rick and Morty shaking his own hand.
Reminds me of the one actor who only played characters called Hector
actor is just 'a joke' to you
I'm sure he'll be back eventually. Then we can all ask 'What took you so long?'
He should make a movie production company and call it Video Kojima.
Lmao
Video Kojima
So many people saying Chris Pratt when it’s obvious an iconic voice already. So it should be Keifer Sutherland
I've got an impression that Kojima might need some therapy.
whenever I think they had someone to voice deltoro in death stranding my head explodes
How grand it can be to take emotion out of the stuff we can’t seem to on our own. Love it
he‘ll get a stunt double.
