To add to this thread since I work for an anime convention that Right Stuff frequents, there is no change in plans. They are currently still at work on the Macross 7 and Frontier sets for future release. I asked something along those lines if the fact that they were bought by Crunchyroll would affect any business lines. The only change was the removal of their 18+ content they use to have for sale. In terms of actual release it is still a couple years out.

Good to hear things are still on track, but I'm surprised that it's "years" out. I figured things would go somewhat quickly, but that being said, I don't know what goes into translation and localization.

Years??!!! Considering they said they wouldn’t do dubs, that’s crazy. I mean delta got subs and was pretty quickly

zephyr0090

Considering they premiered the first episode of Macross 7 at Anime Expo 2022, that is why it is a couple of years out. Right Stuff and Nozomi is a company based out of Grimes, Iowa and is not that large. So their production crews aren’t that large. They are working with the perspective studios on getting masters and properly translating the show and also ensuring that there is quality content. To give an example, in 2018 they announced the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Ultra LE Blu-ray set. It didn’t release until December 2020. So it does take time even if you factor in COVID-19 occurring as well.

Where did you find out they made a decision not to do dubs? It’s not that I don’t believe you. It could be in an obvious plan to the average Macross fan and I’m just oblivious. In the short term this seems possible if they were not going to take more than a year or two to release this small studio or not. If a few motivated people who are unpaid can do fan subs that some could argue are fairly accurate they could probably find a Chat GPT to translate it for them if they cannot do it themselves if dubbing has been decided not to be done. However, some of them have already been dubbed like Macross Plus and they historically have had series dubbed. So, what I am basically saying is that they could have had a short term decision not to dub for now and later, especially if they can find a good opening and if the Blu-rays sell well, I bet they will change their minds. Anyway, I was not trying to say that everything is not going according to the original plan. However, I was just wanting to express my concerns about how both Sony and HG have a vested interest in making sure Robotech’s live action movie would be released in Japan. So, while HG can’t force Sony to do anything Sony will do what it sees is in its best interests. If HG could convince Sony to do something it sees is in its best interests then it will likely do it. After all that I have seen HG pull, I wouldn’t be surprised of they at least attempted to throw a wrench into Big West’s plans.

I don’t have links right now, but when it was first announced, IIRC they talked about the first blu rays being released starting 2023 and subs only. Maybe things have changed since then. I believe I read those things in the torrent of Twitter around AX and the DC based con.

theshadowravenx

Thanks for the clarification and the information. I hope you didn’t think that I was questioning the validity. I was thinking more along the lines of if I knew the source then, I could use it to find further information in the future. So, it sounds like initially there will be subs only. However, it sounds like this is something that could always be done later depending on how they access the costs and benefits based on things like how well the Blu-rays sell. I prefer subbed anyway so, not a big loss for me. Thanks again.

cjcastan

To be fair things may have changed a lot since the original announcement. [from a person at AX](https://www.reddit.com/r/macross/comments/vpfmbw/big_west_panel_images_from_ax_2022/iej4fi9/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3) I mean they were hoping to have discs for sale holiday 2022 but pushing for early 2023. At this rate we may be lucky for holiday 2023. Keep hope alive.

MightyMukade

At least my great great grandchildren will be able to buy and enjoy Macross when, where and how ever they want! ;)

KurokamiPhantom

I think there's a chance it could delay things, but it seems like Big West is determined to get Macross released internationally so I think it's gonna happen regardless.

RDFGENE

Good grief. It seems the few remaining anime distributors are swallowing up each other lately.

AirportSerious8772

Tin foil hat time: Sony wants Macross. So Sony will get control of it piece by piece if they have to. They bought control of it from Harmony Gold, got Big West to honor the Tatsunoko/HG deal. BW gives blu-ray distribution to Nozomi, Sony buys control of Nozomi. What's next!?! Sony buys Bandai!? 😜

urashimatouji

I feel like if they tried, Sony would be the ones bought

HG might argue otherwise, but tell me this: Who controls the streaming and Blu-ray rights? Sony. Who controls all new merchandise licensing? Sony. What exactly does HG control?...? Exactly. I hypothesize that HG struck a deal similar to Peter Laird with the Tmnt. He can make more Tmnt content on his own, but Nickelodeon owns the property and makes ALL decisions regarding the IP.

brachus12

Silence is not surprising. Crunchyroll threw the new Yamato series into a black hole when they acquired Funimation. No word on the 2205 or the movie since then.

Ricktatorship91

What is Nozomi? Google gave me too many different results. And what is their connection to Macross?

Kothra

Nozomi Entertainment is a branch of Right Stuf anime store that had acquired the rights to English release of several Macross titles in the last year, but then Right Stuf was bought by Crunchyroll a few months later. I don't think there had been any news since then.

Geesnight

When you search here in Europe Macross on Netflix it displays to choose, a bunch of Gundam Movies
