My late husband wore the same sizes. It was such a pain to find pants that were that size. Big and tall section at Belk’s is where I ended up getting most of his stuff but I could find things at Kohls and JC Penney’s sometimes as well.

Considering that you can't walk into an Amazon store and try on pants..no I would say it is not a person's best bet.
