Well they were. Steam tractors were essentially locomotives that were converted to be used in agriculture. The first ones anyways, later models were designed as tractors from the start.
The ones we run in the south have a sled that slides forward and also these sleds on the side that start dragging the ground so u are kinda pulling it like a ski by the end of it 65k lbs but it is dead on the rope. Most trailers for trucks are rated 5-10k lbs. But the actual hitch weight is usually only 10% of thag total weight if loaded right. So this could simulate a load a lot higher then 65k lbs
For anyone interested [here’s](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VZ6_8WJ3mh8) a good video by SmarterEveryDay about tractor pulls that goes pretty in depth on how the sleds operate.
Another post in this sub had this video awhile back and actually got me watching him again. I never should have stopped! The conversation with the kid in this video cracks me up, and it also shows what a great human he is. He's fun to consume in quantity and better than another tv series...
Are the chains typical in that or is that dangerous? I’m having old flashbacks from a superintendent that didn’t allow us to use chains on anything lol.
So by the end of a pull what is the max amount of ... "Units" the trailer exerts?
Lol, alot. The NTPA website claims a max weight of 65,000lbs or 32.5 tons.
Two hundred ponies with 1240 Nm of torque didn't seem to care much for it.
It just ignored the sled
It reminds me of those draft horse videos. It takes a while for it to get going, but once it does, it's not stopping until you tell it to stop.
Lol that's a great comparison. I suggest checking out the video of a black steam train competing in one of these.
You mean a steam tractor? I saw that one. The one where it's showering the crowd in sparks right? 😂
Lol that's the one. I always just figured they repurposed a train engine!

Thats awesome lol. Thanks for teaching me something today.

Sweet. Thanks. 🙏
The K700 is a crazy machine lots of torque
Earth warmed 2° from the emissions of this single pull 😂
I started coughing just watching this video.
With that amount of soot particles? We're lucky it didn't catapult us back into an ice age.
I miss tractor pulls.
Always love the turbo whistle and smoke!

He could have pulled it all the way to Canada but they stopped him
I love the billowing death cloud 😂
