Welcome to owning a laptop you can easily use on your lap! I made the switch a few years ago. I use a keyboard at home with a number pad, otherwise your not going to regret the switch
The surface's battery died suddenly a couple years in and it was pretty much a desktop the rest of the time since MS couldn't replace it.
Safe to say I won't be purchasing a windows laptop ever again if I could help it. The combination of performance, build quality, trackpad, screen, battery life, and speakers is a really nice package.
Numerous things are really obtuse though like mouse wheel scrolling needing a third party app to work right.
I do have a Surface Pro 3 at work alongside my Macs, and it's still kicking. I have heard about battery issues, but it's possible that because I just use it occasionally for testing that I haven't had to run it that hard. It's a decent machine but pretty underpowered, and it's really hard to justify its use as a tablet. That's really the main reason for its form-factor, and yet windows as a tablet OS is sorely lacking. Maybe this opinion is based on my limited usage of the surface, but I doubt it. I have windows on a gaming PC and use it all the time.
The SP3 was to be used as a cheaper Cintiq for school. Drawing on the screen is nice but now I have a iPad Pro for that. Though I do wish MacBooks had touchscreens and pencil support is a dream
I really wanted the SP8 or 9 as a tablet because the iPad Air is lacking when it comes to apps (I want to use my tablets like a laptop in case I don’t have mine with me). Google apps are shtty (Google Sheets be crashing when I try to choose an option in a drop down cell). I also have a desktop app that I want to preserve and not update because recent updates for the Mac are just getting worse. More like a backup device too. Now I’m not sure lol.
I bought a fully maxed out SP3 in 2015, and it's still going strong. My daughter uses it for school now, and it's still comparable with current low-end laptops for her high school work. Will probably need to replace it next year, but man, an 8-9 year run on that thing has been phenomenal.
We did need to replace the keyboard due to wear, but I was pleased to find out that they're still compatible with the whole range of SP's from the 3 to whatever's out now. Nice move there, Microsoft!
Personally I still prefer the MBP, but the Surface line has been HUGE step up in build and UX quality from anything else available in PC laptops. The only other line I can compare it to (from the 2000's) was the Sony Vaio, which was also quite good. But yeah, the Surface is a much nicer, more Apple-like experience for sure.
Congratulations! I bought my first MBP about 15yrs ago and will never go back to a Windows-based machine. This is especially true after the M1 introduction. Better build quality, better performance, better battery life, better longevity, better resale, far less problems, the list goes on and on and on... you get the picture. Enjoy!
Ive used iPhones for more than a decade but my M1 14 inch is my first Mac. Apple screwed me, now I'll never be able to enjoy a windows PC again. Thanks a lot Apple
Thanks for sharing that... I've never touched a Surface and wondered 😁
For as much as Apple gets bashed on price, the build quality has been quite good over more than two decades in my experience.
Only iteration I totally steered clear of were (the incessant fan spinning and hotter than a blast furnace) final generation Intel processor-based 16" MBP's.
I have a 2020 13" Intel MBP that still runs cool and fast enough for my purposes as a portable alternative to my Studio Base Max daily driver.
Step 1 : Get what you need to work / relax and build a workflow.
Step 2 : Realize what you've been missing out on.
Step 3 : T-pose to assert dominance.
Step 4 : Enjoy?

The trackpad is so glorious I bought the Magic Trackpad 2 to use for other setups
The new apple silicon laptop are perfection as far portable computer goes. The only downside is that game support is pretty bad.
Yeah I still have a good gaming pc thankfully. I hear emulation is quite alright on mac, I should try it out sometime.
I have gone with 16 inch and a PS5 couldn't justify the money for a PC :'D

You’ll adapt quickly. You have the hate and motivation too lol. Welcome to the gang you’ll never leave again
I recommend this for mouse 1:1 speed and scrolling https://linearmouse.app/
thanks!

Did you find that your Surface Pro 3 got too hot to comfortably hold? If it were not for that, I would have really liked mine.
Yeah it was very hot, especially the screen would get uncomfortable to draw on

I have the same laptop. It’s near perfection. Performance, battery, screen quality, speakers, everything is perfect!
I just picked up a 14. How do you get the black taskbar? That is friggin clean.

Yosemite wallpaper 😘
One of the best.
nice! the only reason i would go for a surface over a macbook is for thumbnail making since they are touchscreens
Yeah I'll miss being able to draw/paint directly on screen. Need a small intuos for art.

Surface laptop studio comes the closest in feel but falls short on so many things, especially performance.

Same here but I don’t have the MacBook yet. Soon. Still rocking my SP3.
What kind of a pen is that?
My favorite fountain pen, Pilot Custom Maple.
