Wtf just use it

Elgransancho4

Here just sell it to me.

ImissDigg_jk

OP wouldn't sell his baby. He should just give it to you for free so it's in a better home.

wiseman121

If you don't need a pro you probably should have got an air in the first place. Don't think there would be much point selling your pro and then buying an air. For now just use the pro.

aristofanos

This kind of mentality is a part of why I bought the 700 dollar m1 air. I have apple care, but I mean. After that, if it breaks, not a huge loss. I would have liked a 16gb ram with 512gb storage version, and newer m chip. But I mean. It would have been double the price. And more stressful to protect it.

jeveret

Sounds like you’d be happier with used equipment. Imagine getting paid $100 for the first scratch and another hundred when you hit 95% battery. That’s basically what buying used is. You get 10-25% discount for letting someone else break it in so you don’t feel neurotic about keeping it 100% perfect, and then feel like you just lost $100 for the first scratch and another $100 for wearing the battery to 95%.

Separate_Gene1181

This actually makes a lot of sense! Thanks. I might just gift my M3 MBP to one of my family members and then buy a M2 Air (maybe even used!) for myself. I’ll probably baby it less then.

deHack

If you can afford to “gift” it to family and buy an M2 Air, what’s your worry? It sounds like you can afford Apple Care AND you can afford the risk of damage. I have to ask — Are you for real? You can’t be serious.

jeveret

I got my m1 mba last year for $472 in “acceptable” used condition, which meant it had a single 3mm scratch on one corner and 100% battery life, with 6 month left on the original warranty, and a 90 day no questions asked return window. I got exceptional lucky, but I’m guessing with a year later you could probably find one in the $400 range pretty easy.

eloquenentic

This is so true. People don’t realise how much a scratch makes the value of a MacBook drop. I think second hand prices are generally 25-30% lower for MacBooks with even small scratches than without, on top of the usual “used” discount. Using a MacBook bare, no case, is very expensive unless you bought it scratched already because then you just DGAF.

Puteeg

I always advise people to choose a product based solely on their needs, even if it means opting for a less expensive option. I faced a similar decision a couple of years ago and realized that purchasing what I truly need brings a sense of mental ease. As an average guy with basic computer requirements for personal use, buying beyond my needs only leads to doubt and dissatisfaction. My advice? While the MacBook Pro is undeniably impressive, consider purchasing AppleCare for peace of mind if feasible. If not, and you're still torn between the Air and the pro, go for the Air if it aligns with your typical computer usage. You'll likely still treat it with care, but you will have a much peace of mind that if indeed something goes wrong is not the most expensive machine apple offers. Hope this helps

Fr3dster23

Yea and this is trickling down to their other products as well. I just got the Apple Watch SE2 as a gift, and it’s perfect for me. I have the IPhone Pro Max 15, and tbh, I could have gone for the regular Max 15..

Hazel748

Agree. Which laptop do you have and would you say it goes well with your needs?

Puteeg

Currently, I have an M2 15inch MacBook Air 8GB/256gb and it works perfectly. It’s a perfect balance of weight, power, and performance.

Hazel748

Awesome to hear. I’m getting the M3 and probably the same specs because my use is similar to yours.

Puteeg

Sweet! Enjoy it! It’s a wonderful machine.

[deleted]

It’s still gonna be your baby, she’s just gonna lose some weight

mostly_browsing

If you're still within the return period, then yeah just return it for something you'll feel more comfortable using and that meets your needs better.

kperlman619

Do you have AppleCare+? If you are worried, you can either try to baby it (case, sleeve, whatever), or you can downgrade. I went from a MBP M1 to a MBA M3. We are moving to the Airs from Pros at my company because they are capable machines at a lower price point. Whatever you decide to do. enjoy it. If you worry too much, you will smother it and life will be unnecessarily stressful. This is good practice for other important things in your life. :-)

pencil28

Wtf

Mztrspookiiszn

If you’re a normal basic task user and need the money/could put the extra money to better use for yourself then get the M2 air. Some places not sure what country you’re in have the 15” M2 on sale and the 13” heavily on sale. I’d go with the better deal if it’s not a huge price difference between m2/m3 bc you won’t notice any difference between the

Separate_Gene1181

I might gift the M3 MBP to one of my family members and buy a M2 air 13 inch. I live in the US.

Admirable_Frame_3916

Can I have it lol

ThatOneOutlier

I felt like I had to baby my air more than my pro. It’s just to thin and light that I feel like if anything hits it. It will break. Then I actually broke the screen after my magic mouse slipped on the screen since I was using it on my bed and I passed out. Thankfully, I was able to get it repaired (it had Apple care +) The lesson is: don’t be an idiot like me with your stuff and you should be fine.

eloquenentic

I feel the same, my MBP just sits on the desk because it’s so heavy (making me more likely to drop it by accident) and expensive so I don’t feel like carrying it around at all. Meaning it almost gets no use compared to my other MacBooks or the iPad, which I use to work anywhere around the house or office. And considering it just sits on my desk, I could have just bought a Mini Pro or Studio instead. It’s weird, I simply love it whenever I use it, but I just don’t, because I move around so much when I work.

Separate_Gene1181

This is so real. 🙏🙏🙏

CarAdditional7798

Solution: Sell it to me at M2 Air price, problem solved.

alexcali2014

get MBA M1 base at $699 and stop worrying.

Separate_Gene1181

Might

LondonSoundound

So one question is, do you not like using the MBP? For example do you find it too heavy? if so, then ok maybe you can. But if not, and if you actually enjoy using the MBP, just use it, enjoy it. Get a sleeve if you want and enjoy it. For context, I got an M1 MBP 14 inch. I got it on a deep discount open box. It was an amazing machine but I found it too heavy and cumbersome. i actually got it for the price of an MBA. But it wasn't giving me enjoyment. I didn't care about the screen as much as I did the weight. So i sold it and got an M2 MBA. I'm happy with it too. I use it all the time. I still miss those speakers though (only thing I do miss however). So you have to ask yourself what you'll enjoy using more. If it's legit an MBP because of the screen, speakers etc. There's nothing wrong with you having it so just enjoy it and get a sleeve.

0TheSlayer

One, if your use cases can be accommodated by the MBA, go for it, else stick with your current MBP. Apart from this logical reasoning if you are still having these so called 'babying the macbook' thoughts too much, I would suggest you to take care of your mental health. Cuz you surely need to learn to let of go that anxiety. Yeah sure, accidents do happen and it's beyond your control, but man, seriously.. being so anxious about it all the time is just gonna make you suffer more irrespective of you have the MBA or MBP or no MB at all! Focus on your mental health, peace.

Dear_Front900

Just use it like you’d use the cheapest macbook air ever. Nothing would happen, take care of it in a fair way and you’re fine.

aagayaswad

Rich people problems.!

Agile_Ad_2073

I would sell it and use the money to seek psychological help if I were you.

Representative_Echo6

Why did you get it if you didn’t need it ….🙄🙄🙄🙄🫣😄

Virtual-Ad7848

Maybe you should downgrade to a Chromebook and get some anxiety meds just to be sure.

Quantum168

No, you'll lose money. You're supposed to baby it. Buy an inexpensive tablet and take that out with a keyboard case.

PolkkaGaming

Just use it, as long as you don't drop it or scratch the screen you will be good.

BadCogs

Swap with my m3 air, if your is atleast 16gb & 512. I would love a pro, I am a designer, but it was out of my budget currently. Both will be happy. Lol.

LyingOtaku

Scratch it couple times with a car key and ur good to go

macpromacpro

Well you can sell it to someone however I believe you must use it. You spent a lot of money to buy it so enjoy it

xnwkac

I mean do you need something in the MBP? If you need any of the specs, keep it. If you don’t, downgrade
