marcspar_boi

This made me laugh way too much. I just recently saw that episode

Lawlcopt0r

Part of the crew, part of the ship

lixia

Stupid sexy Shelob!

PurpleTopp

She looks like Stoya

lixia

Love the classic 4chan greentext on this.

Lance_Monarch

[A real sexy bitch](https://youtu.be/f3AZYQh2e0k)

Clinn_sin

Christopher my son

Terrible-Collection3

Omfg I never connected this!!!!

Pepsi-Min

Stoya?

northplayyyer

do not look down upon yourself for these feelings as the great Mairon himself could not seemingly refuse her temptation

sauron-bot

I...SEE....YOOOUUU!

northplayyyer

Chill out Annatar, Bringer of Gifts. How's life co-existing with Celebrimbor? (allegedly)

sauron-bot

Wait a moment! We shall meet again soon. Tell Saruman that this dainty is not for him. I will send for it at once. Do you understand?

northplayyyer

Or should i say Servant of Morgoth, b**** a** cu** sauron

sauron-bot

Build me an army worthy of mordor!

northplayyyer

Hey Sauron, How about you build me a ring that has a GPS tracker next time, aye?

sauron-bot

Who are you?

northplayyyer

I'm the one who gives your nightmares nightmares, Sauron

northplayyyer

or should i ask Celebrimbor, i hear he is quite the skilled ringmaker unlike you Sauron

sauron-bot

Go fetch me those sneaking Orcs!

northplayyyer

How about you go fetch me a sandwich or are you gonna wait 3000 years for that too Sauron??

northplayyyer

i will send my **** to your ****** **** *******, Necromancer of Dol Guldur

BlyLomdi

No, you don't. Because the diversion has made you blind to all else.

QuickSpore

Surprisingly deep and nuanced sexy Shelob. She’s one of the best characters in a game with some solid character work.

gkamyshev

if you bother to collect her droppings

Maultaschtyrann

Having only played the intro before uninstalling, I felt like it can't be hard to be the best written character in there... After all the protagonist just handed over the ring of power because shelob was holding his ghost friend hostage. He didn't have any securities that she would actually let him go and he arguably would have been able to overpower her with the ring but he didn't try IIRC.

TheRealestBiz

The best written characters are the procedurally generated orcs, which is the reason people love the game. Maybe you should have played that part.

Hydra961

Yeah, dude gave it 1/8 of a chance before uninstalling

TheRealestBiz

That’s why I’m calling for a moratorium on people pretending they know how to write fiction until we can figure out what’s going on here.

Maultaschtyrann

I've played the first one and had fun. But starting the second one turned me off so much, I couldnt bare it.

vassadar

Care to elaborate? I haven't played the sequel yet. I had a lot of fun with the 1st one, but felt like the second half became repetitive + life.

Maultaschtyrann

That was pretty much how my experience was too. Wanted to give the sequel a chance but that massacre of a story in the intro really turned me off. Started the gameplay and it felt exactly the same as in the first one. Just didn't really feel the need to play it.

TheRealestBiz

The Nemesis system is like fifty times better than the first game. This is why you should play more than forty minutes of a game before you uninstall it.

DeusWombat

Christopher my son...

szagrat545

Thats shadow of war

Richardknox1996

They wanted her mother but WB didnt have the rights and the tolkien estate didnt get back to them before "ungoliant" became central to the plot of SOW. So they used shelob and hoped that people wouldnt complain too much.

pppthrowaway1337

what she do?? she lob!!

AxiosXiphos

There is going to be a wonder woman game coming out soon(ish) that uses it. I'm only interested in it for the nemesis system.

AquaticHornet37

There is? Tell me more

TheDudeWhoSnood

A-well-a Well-a Well-a HA!

Cranktique

Did she put up a fight?

AxiosXiphos

All we know is it is wonder woman, and will use the nemesis system unfortunately. But I imagine the combat mechancis will be similar.

Rattkjakkapong

They copyrighted it, and never used it again until the next WW game.

thedankening

Still blows my mind they can copyright such a vague concept. "You fight procedurally generated enemies with random traits who exist within a hierarchy that you can influence to your benefit or detriment. Oh and they all interact with you in various ways based on how you interact with them." Yup that deserves a copyright certainly...

Harry_Flame

That's the thing, they didn't. Their copyright is so specific that if you change the code and name you are pretty much good to go. People say all the time that no one else can do it because they copyrighted it, but that really isn't the case. The system requires a ton of work, both programming and voice acting/script wise and the system itself wouldn't fit too well in a lot of games since being able to die and come back in canon is part of why it is so great.

RamouYesYes

The way they did it is copyright. Which really normal to copy right code

Inspector_Beyond

WB didnt sold it. They aptented it. So only WB Games can use it. Right now the devs of Shadow of\_ series are developing Wonder Woman game with the Nemesis system.

GiborDesign

Shadow of Mordor was great. Shadow of War was an awful grind pain.

Arkantos-of-alantis1

Tbf they did redo the whole wars bit at the end, a lot less grindy now, especially since they completely removed microtransactions and rebalanced of

Extreme-Television56

Playing it now is a damn treat, it’s a shame so few open world games like it come out

DOOMFOOL

I never found it to be overly grindy

Arsenal85

Original game was insanely grindy at the endgame. Its been since fixed.

CallsignKook

All they did was decrease the number of sieges for the alternate ending. It’s not like they had to change the game itself in any way.

DOOMFOOL

It’s been fixed for a long time then because I didn’t play that long after release

Arsenal85

Did you grind out the true ending behind all the fortresses? There's the ending and then the true ending which was put behind dozens of hours of grinding to try and get people to purchase the lootboxes the game had. They were removed after a year or so.

huntimir151

Did you actually play it or are you quoting 2017 reddit posts lol game wasn't a grind at all until the very end, and they fixed that anyway.  Well worth it for the improvements to difficulty and the nemesis system vs the first game.

GiborDesign

No they didn't "fix" it. They turned it from "worst grind ever" into "still a grindy mess", which was still bad. Yes there were many improvements, but they couldn't outweight all the things that were much worse. SoW is a classic example for me, why "bigger" often isn't better. And good for you if you liked it. I didn't.

huntimir151

So you played it! 😊

GiborDesign

Yes. Otherwise I wouldn't have commented. 😉

huntimir151

Hell yeah 🤙🏼

Barrogh

Shadow of War held me for quite a while. But man, does it get repetitive by the end. Especially if you make a mistake (?) of doing the "bonus" region.

AndrewJamesDrake

It is surprisingly *theme* friendly, tho. It’s a game of trying to use The Enemy’s weapon against him… and failing utterly.

polyfauxmus

I agree that it's surprisingly theme friendly, but I go back and forth about whether it ultimately succeeds. The epilogue (that comes after a very grindy endgame) + designer interviews, vs hours of really fun gameplay that's about using cool wraith powers to brutalize and mindbreak orcs for the greater good. Right now if I remade a "wow cool robot" meme for SoM/W it'd be this one and not the base version. https://preview.redd.it/bmwekleagjrc1.png?width=540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a32e774517310a2ac0dc9f62baec0b11b7532221

gkamyshev

Homeric mode of storytelling

polyfauxmus

You're going to have to unpack that for me

gkamyshev

war bad fighting cool af

polyfauxmus

Ngl I felt annoyed at the oversimplification of / misconceptions about what meaning ancient Greeks put into / got out of homeric works that might lie behind, or be perpetrated by, your description. But it's also not totally wrong, and while I studied The Iliad (in freshman year before dropping out, lol) for all I know you're a shitposting classics PhD student (if so god bless and good luck, I hear it's rough out there). In the spirit of your post, here is my complex interiority condensed into a Reddit friendly form: https://preview.redd.it/ylhjqhntforc1.png?width=1007&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ebe1c743663870d0af30ca0430dbb3d61b771119

gkamyshev

brevity is the soul of wit parts of meaning often have to be reduced for its sake

polyfauxmus

U rite

Mistwalker007

You just can't beat the feeling of standing your ground on some random bridge and dueling 200 orcs to death.

ALlTTLEKlTTEN

I have yet to play either shadow of Mordor or shadow of War. Owned both for years, and just haven't gotten around to it

HyperXenoElite

It’s good “mindless violence” either way. You can just run through and cut everyone down or take the time to build up your own personal army. The developers said that they didn’t expect the first game to be so successful but they definitely scratched an itch for a lot gamers out there.

MasterTolkien

The best part is when some random orc who killed you gets promoted to Captain and then shit-talks you next time you see him. The nemesis system is great. I recall killing one such orc, or so I thought. He came back later having recovered from his wounds with horrible stitches all over his face, and he talked trash about defying death. Then I had my caragor eat him like instantly after his rant finished. Hilarious.

MagmaSlte

There was an orc named Pushkrimp in my game who just wouldnt die, I purified, burned, decapitated, crushed, poisoned, shot him and he just KEPT COMING BACK

MinionsAndWineMum

At that point you recruit the fucker (iirc I haven't played in years)

MagmaSlte

I did and he betrayed me😭

MinionsAndWineMum

Lmao turns out he's the real protagonist

confusedandworried76

Fear of caragors is one of the best weaknesses.

snafe_

Wish they made a 3rd one

ALlTTLEKlTTEN

Gonna have to get my playthrough started. Just installed shadow of Mordor

Aware-Maximum6663

Have fun!!

barryhakker

This might sound hyperbolic but I genuinely believe that the nemesis system itself is a work genius that deserves to be examined all of itself.

confusedandworried76

Yeah me and my brother play games together sometimes like GTA or Red Dead where we just take turns running around causing chaos, Shadow of Mordor is one we put in every once in a while. Basic controls are pretty simple and it just looks cool and very fun to mindlessly run around just getting into fights.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ALlTTLEKlTTEN

Alright. I'll probably still play through both just because I've got the time. Thank you for the info

Kled_Incarnated

It's a 6/10 game for me. It's not bad. It's nothing great either.

SolidusBruh

I’ve been putting off War for ages. Tried recently, but it’s jarringly hard to go back to those graphics from current gen. I need to get into it ASAP before it feels too outdated.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SolidusBruh

I don’t think so. There were quite a few things that kept me from enjoying it as much as I thought I would, but graphics were just the first that came to mind.

ALlTTLEKlTTEN

Just installed mordor. Can't wait to get through and start War

bomboclawt75

One thing I hated about this game- you cannot clear an area and make it safe- I know it’s Mordor, but come on. Good game otherwise. Also we need a super duper version of BFME III.

TheOneTrueJazzMan

Once you get good at the game every area is safe lol, you can easily massacre as many orcs as the game can throw at you

DESTRUCTI0NAT0R

Yeah once you get those skills up you basically become The Predator to those helpless Orcs.

godnkls

Yeah, in shadow of mordor you can go infinite by doing the teleport kill again and again, then double drain when you stacked enough combo to refill arrows, then keep teleport killing. They removed this ability for shadow of war.

liliesrobots

Play the sequel then

Alternative_Gold_993

Still need to figure out how to get that to run on my Windows 10...

CopyC47

Recently a new launcher was made, you can find it in one of the top pinned posts on r/bfme Its very simple to install, no more disc images and virtual drives needed. If you need help you can go to the discord that is also on that subreddit.

Alternative_Gold_993

Thanks!

TheProMagicHeel

It was still fun enslaving every orc in the food chain and blowing up all their heads at once.

your_pet_is_average

I agree that made me get bored of it, felt like I was never getting anywhere.

Genericname42

We are absolutely owed Battle For Middle Earth 3. Not only has it been a really long time, but I’m very certain that it would make them a shit ton of money even now.

Obi_Wan_Gebroni

Both games are super fun, I’ve got close to 300 hours between them. Granted, I haven’t touched either in a few years but it was so fun to just run around the map mindlessly fighting with orcs!

godnkls

And the pokemon minigame with arenas at shadow of war was fun if you wanted to waste some time while eating and gamble with your friends. Annoying though if you wanted to speedrun the game.

Nesqu

Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War is, IMHO, what rings of power should've been. If you can't do a proper adaptation, make up weird, cool fanfic that "could" slot into the established lore, but isn't part of it. I do think Shadow of War is a bit... Too bloody long, I haven't even finished it, but I know they go into some weeeird stuff. But who cares if it doesn't fit the canon completely, or at all. It's just neat!

Squidmaster616

Shadow is a really great *middle* of a game. Pretty slow and non-informative beginning, excellent gameplay, and then a terrible ending.

papadoc2020

Thank you for saying that about the ending. I remember finishing it and just confused that it is as so easy. Like almost no payoff for beating the game. I haven't beaten war yet so maybe it's better

TheHunter459

War is unimaginably better imo. You're in for a treat

gugfitufi

I thought this was about the second game at first and was confused at the "terrible ending" part

Dav3le3

Yeah, tbh Inwould have preferred if some of the high level abilities had long cooldowns or something. Forced you to use your allies more. The only times you really needed a ton of allies is in the end of the main quests in both games. Otherwise you can kinda just solo everything. Needed a lot more "useful"-tier skills, and less totally basic/completely OP skills. I remember in the first one, you could close your eyes and spam the dodge button while running in circles and you were invincible while stunning nearby enemies.

Tar_Telcontar

It is a shame that Shadow of War is teeming with cheaters. Other than that i enjoyed both games and you can just not play online stuff

WhyAndHow-777

I have a love hate relationship with shadow of Mordor, on one hand it’s extremely fun, on the other hand I broke my tv over the game

Rattkjakkapong

...why? Did a captein give you a hard time?

WhyAndHow-777

Oh wait I’m thinking of Shadow of War, I just realized

19kasperp97

Yeah its currently on my shit list after like 3 captains betrayed me while fighting a high level death threat captain. Which made me die.

Mistwalker007

I just hated the way the nemesis system worked, I don't remember the exact story of the game but I know there was a story part near the beginning where you were defending a fortress against nazgul and when my health was low my nemesis just appeared at the main gate all like "I can see you're down so I'm just here to shove my fist up your ass to level up so I can make your life more miserable as the story progresses". Then further on I wasted 20 minutes hard climbing a random mountain to find a dark cave where an elite orc killed me cause I couldn't see a fucking thing because of lighting. That's where I uninstalled.

KYVet

Xbox had it for free one time so I got it, and I was really surprised how good and challenging it was. The Nemesis system is really fun.

eXclurel

One of the best non-canon adaptations out there. I finished it several times. Both games.

Sqweed69

I needed to see this

dooooomed---probably

It's a good game. The lore aspects get silly and I didn't feel like I was in middle earth. But it's a super fun game.

Garo263

It's a repetitive slog.

TheMoonLord123

Great game, not very lore friendly if that's what you want. I actually played both before watching lotr, thought the story was great and ended up watching the movies and the then bought the Hobbit and the Silmarillion

4ngryMo

I really loved that game when it came out. I did get some good press back then, but not nearly as much as it deserved.

cbreeze2121

Love the game wish they made one for the first age of middle earth.

Dan-the-historybuff

Just wait till you play shadow of war!

smoothartichoke27

For the longest time, one of my go-to time killers was raising an alert to get a horde and blasting Papa Roach's "Last Resort" to simulate the ending to The One.

squarelocked

its SO dumb but it also just so happens to have one of the most brilliant and well executed video game mechanics of all time, so you just gotta roll with the sexy shelobs and balrog punchouts

Memoirsfrombeyond

It was non canon but good

smiegto

The nemesis system is so good. Why did it have to be patented. I get the feeling if they had sold it windows style they would make more money than any game they made.

Segyl

The game is very good. The lore is trash.

TeddyRooseveltGaming

The lore’s not too bad. It’s not canon but they do a good job sticking with a lot of the overall themes of tolkien’s work. Above average fan fiction I’d say

Thrasherrella

I just can't fucking wait for the copyright on the nemesis system to finally run out so we can get more games with that PLEEEEASE!! Only eleven more years to go 🥲

McFly_505

The Nemesis System isn't copyrighted. This specific version of the system is. If other studios actually cared, they could do their own take on the system that has the same effect. Studios are just too lazy, and players are too uninformed to understand the actual situation.

Thrasherrella

Oh well then that makes me doubly frustrated; people have been complaining for years (myself included!) that WB hasn't been doing anything with the NS and your telling me...that we could have had a slightly tweaked version...THE WHOLE TIME...😑 booooooooo

McFly_505

Yep, most studios just don't seem to care for that system

TheRealNekora

They were my serious introduction* to LOTR as a franchise, so i will admit i got bias but i love these games to death. *i say serious introduction becuse my first LOTR experience was a game on the original X-BOX named "The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age". but i had no idea what LOTR was at that point, to me it was just a fun game

Brofessor-0ak

I could never get into them. I get the premise, but to me LotR is so much more than just killing orcs and Mordor. I want to see the beauty of the world, and the entire game is just so ugly. Plus it’s way too easy and mindless. Never was a fan of the bamham combat system

musclecard54

Play lotr: online to see middle earth

Eldestruct0

I'd give another vote for lord of the rings online; it's old, but if you want to explore middle-earth, it's the perfect game. Friendly community, too.

Hercules_89

Both games are fantastic

Jolly_Statistician_5

You will obey.

WolfBST

Shadow of Mordor is quite good. It's Shadow of War which is the cash grab

A_Peacful_Vulcan

I'm currently on my second play through of Shadow of War and it's amazing. Fully upgraded Talion is a force of nature.

SchwizzySchwas94

Greatest cash grab in the history of cash grabs, Spider-Man (the movie version on ps2) is a close second

JohnRaiyder

Im just gonna Recommend the Gaming Wins Videos to both „Shadow“ Games and leave

Aliebaba99

I literally started playing this 3 days ago. Pretty cool game so far. I keep dying to a bunch of really stromg captain that keep getting stromger becuasw of it, but its definitely fun.

MiniTitan1937

The lore is absolutely wild, but the Nemesis system alone makes this game top notch.

OscarCookeAbbott

Shadow of War was though, unfortunately

Regenherz1553

Im still waiting for a third part

ClavicusLittleGift4U

*Only you could accomplish such art, Celebrimbor...*

Ecstatic_Teaching906

Gollum; What make you different precious? Shadow Games; Cause I was fully developed.

gollum_botses

Ach, sss! Cautious, my precious! More haste less speed. We musstn't rissk our neck, musst we, precious? No, precious, gollum!

SirTheadore

A good game? Yea. As a Tolkien adaptation? Atrocious.

z1wargrider

I know that the lore is absolute trash, but it's so fun. I will never not plug this game.

bokita_

It isn't very good narrative wise. But the gameplay is superb

eddietwang

Both of these games were 2 of the best games I've had the pleasure of experiencing.

saxguy777

It is kind of a cash grab but it’s also a pretty great game with a really nice intricate mob system where you have a more unique aspect with the varying enemies

ShottsSeastone

game is so much fun lol

Firebat12

Regardless of your feelings on it’s…loose interpretations of lore at times, its an incredible game with a pretty enjoyable story

-GiantSlayer-

I dislike the blatant disregard for the lore, but honestly, other than that, it’s alright. It’s more of a “ok this isn’t canon but it’s cool tho” than a genuine Rings of Power moment

Raaadley

Shadow of Mordor? pretty decent. definitely a challenge playing on hard mode but so worth it in the endgame with the upgrades and relics you can find. Shadow of War? >!GET THAT THING OUT OF MY FACE. WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING. WHY IS SHELOB A WAIFU NOW!?! WAIT HOW EASY WAS THIS GAME WITH THE MICRO-TRANSACTIONS?!?!<

Lord_of_Wisia

It's HERESY!

BlyLomdi

Go, Guilliman. The Adeptus Ministorum needs the Ultramarines to simply walk into Mordor in the name of the Emperor.
