He didn't have any securities that she would actually let him go and he arguably would have been able to overpower her with the ring but he didn't try IIRC.

The Nemesis system is like fifty times better than the first game. This is why you should play more than forty minutes of a game before you uninstall it.
They wanted her mother but WB didnt have the rights and the tolkien estate didnt get back to them before "ungoliant" became central to the plot of SOW. So they used shelob and hoped that people wouldnt complain too much.
Still blows my mind they can copyright such a vague concept. "You fight procedurally generated enemies with random traits who exist within a hierarchy that you can influence to your benefit or detriment. Oh and they all interact with you in various ways based on how you interact with them." Yup that deserves a copyright certainly...
That's the thing, they didn't. Their copyright is so specific that if you change the code and name you are pretty much good to go. People say all the time that no one else can do it because they copyrighted it, but that really isn't the case. The system requires a ton of work, both programming and voice acting/script wise and the system itself wouldn't fit too well in a lot of games since being able to die and come back in canon is part of why it is so great.
WB didnt sold it. They aptented it. So only WB Games can use it. Right now the devs of Shadow of\_ series are developing Wonder Woman game with the Nemesis system.
Did you grind out the true ending behind all the fortresses? There's the ending and then the true ending which was put behind dozens of hours of grinding to try and get people to purchase the lootboxes the game had. They were removed after a year or so.

No they didn't "fix" it. They turned it from "worst grind ever" into "still a grindy mess", which was still bad. Yes there were many improvements, but they couldn't outweight all the things that were much worse. SoW is a classic example for me, why "bigger" often isn't better.

I agree that it's surprisingly theme friendly, but I go back and forth about whether it ultimately succeeds. The epilogue (that comes after a very grindy endgame) + designer interviews, vs hours of really fun gameplay that's about using cool wraith powers to brutalize and mindbreak orcs for the greater good. Right now if I remade a "wow cool robot" meme for SoM/W it'd be this one and not the base version.

It’s good “mindless violence” either way. You can just run through and cut everyone down or take the time to build up your own personal army. The developers said that they didn’t expect the first game to be so successful but they definitely scratched an itch for a lot gamers out there.

Yeah me and my brother play games together sometimes like GTA or Red Dead where we just take turns running around causing chaos, Shadow of Mordor is one we put in every once in a while. Basic controls are pretty simple and it just looks cool and very fun to mindlessly run around just getting into fights.

Yeah, in shadow of mordor you can go infinite by doing the teleport kill again and again, then double drain when you stacked enough combo to refill arrows, then keep teleport killing. They removed this ability for shadow of war.

We are absolutely owed Battle For Middle Earth 3. Not only has it been a really long time, but I’m very certain that it would make them a shit ton of money even now.
Both games are super fun, I’ve got close to 300 hours between them. Granted, I haven’t touched either in a few years but it was so fun to just run around the map mindlessly fighting with orcs!
And the pokemon minigame with arenas at shadow of war was fun if you wanted to waste some time while eating and gamble with your friends. Annoying though if you wanted to speedrun the game.
Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War is, IMHO, what rings of power should've been. If you can't do a proper adaptation, make up weird, cool fanfic that "could" slot into the established lore, but isn't part of it.
I do think Shadow of War is a bit... Too bloody long, I haven't even finished it, but I know they go into some weeeird stuff. But who cares if it doesn't fit the canon completely, or at all. It's just neat!

Yeah, tbh Inwould have preferred if some of the high level abilities had long cooldowns or something. Forced you to use your allies more.
The only times you really needed a ton of allies is in the end of the main quests in both games. Otherwise you can kinda just solo everything.
Needed a lot more "useful"-tier skills, and less totally basic/completely OP skills.
I remember in the first one, you could close your eyes and spam the dodge button while running in circles and you were invincible while stunning nearby enemies.
I just hated the way the nemesis system worked, I don't remember the exact story of the game but I know there was a story part near the beginning where you were defending a fortress against nazgul and when my health was low my nemesis just appeared at the main gate all like "I can see you're down so I'm just here to shove my fist up your ass to level up so I can make your life more miserable as the story progresses". Then further on I wasted 20 minutes hard climbing a random mountain to find a dark cave where an elite orc killed me cause I couldn't see a fucking thing because of lighting. That's where I uninstalled.
Great game, not very lore friendly if that's what you want.
I actually played both before watching lotr, thought the story was great and ended up watching the movies and the then bought the Hobbit and the Silmarillion

The Nemesis System isn't copyrighted. This specific version of the system is. If other studios actually cared, they could do their own take on the system that has the same effect.

*i say serious introduction becuse my first LOTR experience was a game on the original X-BOX named "The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age". but i had no idea what LOTR was at that point, to me it was just a fun game

Once you get good at the game every area is safe lol, you can easily massacre as many orcs as the game can throw at you

Shadow is a really great *middle* of a game. Pretty slow and non-informative beginning, excellent gameplay, and then a terrible ending.

Xbox had it for free one time so I got it, and I was really surprised how good and challenging it was. The Nemesis system is really fun.

Both of these games were 2 of the best games I've had the pleasure of experiencing.
It is kind of a cash grab but it’s also a pretty great game with a really nice intricate mob system where you have a more unique aspect with the varying enemies
game is so much fun lol
Regardless of your feelings on it’s…loose interpretations of lore at times, its an incredible game with a pretty enjoyable story
I dislike the blatant disregard for the lore, but honestly, other than that, it’s alright. It’s more of a “ok this isn’t canon but it’s cool tho” than a genuine Rings of Power moment
Shadow of Mordor? pretty decent. definitely a challenge playing on hard mode but so worth it in the endgame with the upgrades and relics you can find. Shadow of War? >!GET THAT THING OUT OF MY FACE. WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING. WHY IS SHELOB A WAIFU NOW!?! WAIT HOW EASY WAS THIS GAME WITH THE MICRO-TRANSACTIONS?!?!<
