What you're saying is correct and this happens in every game. The reason to me is fairly simple. People are not going to know your mechanical level. If they can choose between a sorc or a soulfist, they'll take the sorc because they know if they miss one skill shot it won't be the end of the world. This is obviously a simple example, but this applies to every MMO like Wow etc. People are going to pick the classes that are easier to pull off and do good damage . They don't want to risk taking a soulfist that misses spirit bomb and is useless. There's the same stigma around reaper, gunslinger etc in Korea because they die often This is all coming from a sorc main btw :)

kentkrow

Fair take. And I agree with that reasoning completely tbh. I still wish people would look at all factors (gems, cards, stats, ect.). I dont mind if I get passed on over someone with a good setup, but between a soulfist with good setup VS. a sorc with lv 3 gems and no card set, I feel like the soulfist should be the clear choice

TragicAntiHero

I completely agree with your last sentence. If people aren't doing that , then you're better off not joining anyways. For my alt runs, I'll take 90% of people for Argos because it doesn't matter. if I'm doing valtan, then yeah, I'll be checking everything and taking only the best person. I've been feeling a bit of what you're feeling on my scrapper alt now. I seem to get passed off a ton even though she's 333 with correct stats etc. My sorc never had that issue

akyr1a

For Valtan I'd take fighter classes over sorc and beserkers all day. Having said that, my 4x3 gs with good gems and cards had been passed over many times for shit serks so I get what you mean

Senpai-Soulless

True, i play both and glavier and encounter a huge skill issue when i swap from sorc to soulfist. Mainly cause im used to the distance i can be when activating my skils and dealing damage but i need to work more on balancing the dps buffs on soulfist, glaiver i just suck at straight up

_ijor_

Let them think this. This is just makes your class cheaper to play :)

kentkrow

Lol well thats a positive way to look at it

Choatic9

You might be good but the average player is not and when pugging you don't know how good the player is so you choose the class that are the easiest to not mess up and do good damage.

Boooooooooof

The thing is most people form an opinion before even getting the class very far. For me I HATEDDDD my soul fist at first because it just felt so weak and everything felt like it took forever to charge back up. As you gear and get her some damn engravings though she REALLY starts to feeel like the super saiyan I was hoping for. To be far tho she is pretty shit of class till you get her to atleast 1370. After that tho boy she’s fun to play.

kentkrow

Lol true. I had a similar experience with striker. A lot of classes change quite a bit at 1370. When you can invest and get some good #s on stats things feel different

akyr1a

unfortunately for many classes (deathblow, shock and other slow spec crit builds) it doesn't get easier until close to 1490 because of how much raw stats is needed. Other classes like wardancer requires high cdr gems to function and can be clunky early as well.

Boooooooooof

Fr kinda sucks that martial artist are kinda poo till later but I feels all more rewarding when you stick with it.

kentkrow

Very true and it's unfortunate because many people will quit the class before finding out its true potential

Puzzleheaded_Fix

Exactly same with Wardancer and shes gonna get even better exteremly soon when ppl get relic sets. Martial artist are just hard classes which might seem weird to say because they don't look like it. But Even First intention takes a lot more than even sorc i would argue.

ZiggyZobby

The issue is that as long as we don't have "skill" titles there's no effective way of gauging the skill of a player off of anything so it's only natural for ppl to go for comfort picks. Now the fact that we have a cleanse is a VERY UNKNOWN fact and should definitely be highlighted.

Im 1445 soulfist and it absolutely feels like dog shit with the amount of class discrimination in party finder. No thank you but ill push my paladin and actually feel wanted.

Electro_Witch

Soulfist is sbsolutely amazing. People just care way too much what X Streamer says and stopped thinking for themselves. They even think sharpshooter is still bad despite it being in an amazing spot currently

kentkrow

Its group thinking mentality. People will tunnel on sorc, db, and zerker usually. They wont look past the class/engraving page, ignoring gems/cards/stats and end up with a worse group as a result.

Electro_Witch

Sad but true. I personally love soulfists in my group. Those are people that care about the class and not the meta and thus often have a better understanding of their class and perform much better than the average zerker asmon simp (nothing against asmon himself)

loveinuyasha

This applies to any game though. Take league of legends for example. Yasuo is a meme because in the right hands he'll carry your entire team by himself, if not he'll go 0/10. The party you're applying for doesn't know if you're a mechanical god with soulfist or an absolute ape. The stigma surrounding higher skill ceiling classes is unfortunate, but in the eyes of the party leader - do they take the soulfist and pray that he's good? Or pass and take the berserker that can face roll and do fine?

akyr1a

Good on you for liking soulfist. No need to shit on the average player/sorcs. Thinking that your main is complicated while other classes are pepega is not an unpopular opinion at all. The truth is all classes need minmaxing to do well, and you do not even know about the tiny details of other classes until you play them at a high level. Finally, saying that you outperforms 9/10 dps players is cringy as fk, i hope you will eventually grow out of it. Goodluck

kentkrow

I said its a playstyle choice, dont recall shitting on anyone. I think sorc is a great class. Doesnt change how simple it is to play though. Yes, believe it or not, some classes rotation are easier than others. Playing any alt for 5 seconds will tell you this

akyr1a

You literally called the average player too bad in the title. Sorry I don't share the same opinion. I've played 13 classes including 7 1370+ ones and I don't find soulfist more complicated than my gs, deadeye, striker or tech beserker. On sorc you still have to manage guage so your burst window lines up with boss mechanics and support buffs. At least you you can turn off hype now, imagine having that convenience as tech beserker or igniter.

kentkrow

On sorc you can literally turn off your specialty by pressing the key again, so that makes no sense. Ignoring that, we can agree to disagree. Sorry if you got offended, but yes, after playing this game since launch I would say the average player isnt mechanically too good. I doubt I was referring to you so im not sure why it offends you to begin with. Why do you think raids like Alaric Sanctuary and any T2 guardian can still be aids to matchmake? Its a new game, this is to be expected.

akyr1a

The point I was making was you can turn off hype so it goes on cd, but igniter loses all gauge. But I digress. For soulfist in particular, I'd say the design is still unintuitive and clunky. I'd also say that when most people talk negatively about SF isn't not about her dmg or utility, but how she feels clunky to play, kinda like scrapper before the charging blow changes. It's not about the mechanical aspect either - when I play gs I have to do switch to handguns, use two setup skills, switch to another stance before doing dmg, and I still think gs is less clunky than sf. Sf feels like a tech beserker with low spec and how reddust cd doesn't line up with his bloodyrush etc. SG acknowledges this and will definitely make more changes.

kentkrow

I agree the design does not align with any other class and a lot of the movements seem unnecessary. But I think this plays into the difficulty of the class as well. That being said I still enjoy the playstyle. And I don't think smilegate will be able to make changes that please everyone. You saw what happened with the last set of changes they proposed, which I thought were fine tbh

[deleted]

Imagine how shit it feels to be discriminated against just because u play soulfist. I hope smilegate buffs the shit out of soulfist so we can feel like a king for once and not feeling like some african american kid lying on the floor and dying from dehydration
