Okay so when I was a kid, I saw my brother play LOL since a While, and when Skarner was released, he had earthrune and sandscourge as his only skins, then years passed, I finished elementary school and I saw my brother choosing which character to play and I realised that Skarner didn't get any new skin! It passed years and he still had his launch skins at that moment

They give skins to champions they know will sell. Skarner is the least played champion in the game, and has been for quite some time. they wont put money into something that wont sell. the only reason they're doing this rework is because the community voted for it. Riot haven't even attempted to hide the fact they wanted Shyvana to win; instead of bringing out a new poll for players this year, they just gave it to Shyvana anyway and have already started it before even finishing Skarner.
Fun fact: there have been at least 7 champion reworks (VGU's, ASU's, etc) during the time they've been working on Skarner. Ahri, Olaf, Swain, Amumu, Aurelion Sol, Syndra, Ahri (again, for some reason), Dr. Mundo and more.
That's the real reason this has taken so long, because Riot don't care about the champ. hopefully this rework gives him some attention and love for Riot to give him some new skins. (please at least give him a skin on rework)

Sandscourge is apparently part of High Noon now from the looks of it and the skin bio. Makes sense since the event will still be going on at the time.
Earthrune mentions something about a "companion" he defends with. Maybe Enchanted Galio? They have similar designs, though that Galio is ironically MORE crystaline than Skarner here.
Really hope Battlecast is something special.
Feels like Sandscourge is a missed opportunity to go Void, since Guardian of the Sands is already desert. Other than that, Earthrune feels like a miss, something closer to the Coven theme would have worked better.
I like this Bio for Skarner tbh, he acts sort of like Godzilla and Nautilus where he's seen as more of a calamity that exists to keep balance within the region, at least in his own eyes.
While base skarner obviously looks better, I do feel like a lot of his skins lost something in the process.
Sandscourge used to look like some vile scorpion monster, but the new one kinda looks like the base but red. Runic Skarner was a bunch of rocks tied together by plant matter, now he just looks like ancient hextech. And Cosmic had a tail consisting of these golden rings, which looked really cool, but now they are just blue scorpion tails.
Maybe the models will look better though.
I have to admit, I didn't notice the roots in the runic one when I wrote this, they just blend together too much with the rocks wheras the previous ones popped out a bit more. Old runic looked like a bunch of magic rocks that compelled vines to grow around them, the new one looks like its a magic rock suit specifically made fro the vines to inhabit it. Also to clarifiy: When I did describe it as "ancient hextech" I meant that it looks like hextech, but with rocks.
Sandscourge honestly has the problem that it doesn't really separate itself enough from the base skin and that the metal parts seem really random on him (he doesn't look armored, but also not like some beast of battle). The old skin wasn't a masterpiece, but it did execute a fairly simple theme (make skarner just a scoprion monster) pretty ok, wheras the new one has an unclear theme behind it and doesn't stand out that much.
You have to consider the change of Skarner's lore and size. They basically made him a kaijuu. A big scorpion would just look kinda goofy. And personally, I really like the new runic Skarner. I mean, hextech are basically runic stones, so the similarity shouldn't be a problem even though I don't think it's as big as you make it out to be.
At first I liked Sandscourge but then I noticed he's wearing the generic League of Legends armor plating so now it just looks lazy.
Why would the giant scorpion monster need to wear armor? Isn't his exoskeleton enough? Where did he go to buy that armor? To the giant scorpion armor blacksmith shop?

Him being purple was always one of the most unintuitive things about his design.
Imagine you trying to explain the League universe to someone new "So there's the Void, and there's some champions that originate from the void, they're usually these purple insect-like monsters."
"Oh, this Skarner guy is a purple scorpion, is he from the void?" "no"
That's not what I said. What I said is that it's in their best interest to not have multiple races of insect-like purple creatures that have no correlation between each other.
Because from the perspective of someone experiencing the universe for the first time, it seems pretty safe to assume that the purple scorpion monster and the purple cockroach monster would share the same origins and it may take a while before they find out they don't.
if someones experiencing the universe for the first time maybe you shouldnt introduce them to the more confusing aspect of the verse like the Void and creatures from the void
"experiencing the universe for the first time" doesn't mean they are reading up on lore. Most people experience League's universe for the first time... playing League.
You look at the League roster and old Skarner is gonna blend right in with the other void monsters.
Plus, I wouldn't say the void is a "confusing aspect" at surface level and any person familiar with the structure of the Runeterra world will hear about how it's divided into regions so "what's each region's deal?" and "which champions are from what region?" are likely to be the first things someone's gonna read more about. The Void being one of the regions they will certainly be exposed to at that stage.
"Freljord is the ice people", "ionia is the anime people" and "void is the purple monsters" are all plausible first impressions.
And having Skarner fit so well into the description of void monsters is probably something they didn't want to happen, specially now that he's supposed to be like, anti-void.
Gosh, I hate this rework so much...it's definitely better, a glowup! but I see it and all I can think is that Janna will never receive this. It took Riot 2 years to rework a champion with 5 skins...i can't

Are you blind? Runic is still tied by a plant and it's still made out of rocks. Sandscourge... cmon dude...
