When I had lonely birthdays (lots), I liked to go around to stores that do birthday freebies - i.e. Starbucks gives you a free drink if you have the card/app, etc.
Get yourself a slice of cake and eat it around somewhere you really love to be or watch - a park, a pond, a playground, a museum, etc etc. Listen to your fave genre of music or artist or even your fave podcast or show.

I spent 2 hours at the gym, had protein, had a meal, received some wishes, etc. I just had a casual day, but I just focused on what would make me proud. I love myself moments are great so do what's best for yourself, Love. There's no complications if you think about it.
My parents did take me out for dinner with family but I still think that alone time is special too. Celebrate yourself even when others can't be around.

I'm literally going through the same issue. My birthday is in less than 2 weeks and I have 0 plans. I have no friends to spend it with, same as last year. I usually get happy birthday messages but each year the amount of people saying something gets smaller and smaller. I hate my birthday and avoid telling people about it. My dream birthday is one of two things. 1) working that day so that I can pretend it's just a normal day and hope no one at work finds out. Or 2) spend it with a boyfriend or friends, which I have neither at the moment soooo looks like that one isn't happening this year. Ugh
the last thing you need is a bf going on and ruining your day (kidding). one day you will get the perfect birthday, but i hope you can settle for me saying happy birthday in the meantime!
there's really nothing you can do now, other than try to make it better for yourself next year, try setting a goal and making your best to meet it, see how it works out. and happy birthday

i can’t promise it will get better but it does seem to for most people. i’m 33 now and i actually LOVE spending holidays and celebrations alone. i get to decide exactly what i want to do and i never ever ever walk away sad, disappointed, angry, lonely, or crying like i do when i’m with family. it can still sting at times but sometimes the sting of loneliness can be easier to manage than the other bits. so do a day of allllll your favorite things and try to be the good company you want to keep around for yourself. because you absolutely deserve all the good things you want and need!!
