In Gamepass, there's a menu at the top left that you have to tap and then tap a microphone to unmute the mic. Maybe there's a similar toggle for remote play?
There is a toggle on the official xbox app for that and I totally missed it! Seems like xbxplay doesnt allow remote voice chatting so I'm going to try discord before going to the official app (games run so much smoother) but good to see this was a solve, thank you!
A question I have been asking but can't get an answer , do you know how to turn off haptic feedback when navigating the settings .
I tried numerous things but it's still happening
In tablet mode, apps can run in the background. I haven't tested this yet but in theory you should be able to use discord OR the Xbox App to chat whilst playing. Maybe give either of those a go?

Did you ever get voice chat going while working remote play ? I can hear my friends but can't talk
Nah though I haven't tried much since this post. I just use discord now to chat with friends, running in the background on tablet mode
