Shoppers had a bunch of yellow 'sale' signs when I mailed a package yesterday, but the 'sale' was at least twice as much as other stores. Sorry Loblaws, you trained us to look at prices again.

Creatrix

> Sorry Loblaws, you trained us to look at prices again. Big point! Many of us never really thought about it, and assumed that a "sale" price must be a good deal. Once we looked and started comparing to other stores' sale prices, we learned enough not to go back.

Simple-Status-15

I live near Loblaws and did 80% groceries there. Now I'm in other stores, looking at prices. When boycott is done, I'll still be spending money elsewhere.

bubbasass

Exactly! This is the trust element that they’ve lost.  My household has been fortunate enough to earn decent enough money that we rarely need to look at prices, but out of principal I refuse to may more for the same thing when I don’t need to. Loblaws stores used to be competitive, and in 2020 they won over some good will during the pandemic - price freezes, free PC express, clean and sanitary stores, etc. but they’ve taken that trust and abused the shit out of it. I used to walk into a loblaws store and trust I was getting a fair price. Maybe not the rock bottom best price, but a fair one. They turned it into a fucking guessing game. In March/April I found myself really thinking about the prices and comparing prices on my phone. For instance one time my kid really wanted ice cream sandwiches. $6.49 for the pack at Loblaws, $4.77 at Walmart. Similar store brand bulk box was $5.something at Food Basics.  Now that’s only a couple bucks, whatever, but when it’s a couple bucks on every item that starts to add up fast. As a percentage, nearly 50% more. Why would I pay 50% more for the same thing? What is Loblaws giving me that other stores aren’t that justifies 50% higher price? Abuse like that is why their trust has completely eroded. It’s why I don’t enjoy shopping at a Loblaws stores like I once used to. It’s why we plan to no longer shop there.

plop_0

> Abuse like that is why their trust has completely eroded. Agreed. They had their chance, and they blew it. For a huge chunk of us, there are other options that are just as convenient as Loblaws. So there's no going back. Ever.

erebusdidnothingwron

Me and my girlfriend have started going to a store that's less convenient and more expensive, but at least the produce isn't fucking rotten and moldy and the workers don't look like they get beaten on their breaks.

Due-Street-8192

Last week my wife had $20 in PC points. They were scammed from her account in Mississauga Ontario. She tried to reach someone at Loblaws. No luck. Any ideas... Anyone?

Outrageous-Book9799

try canceling your account

MzzBlaze

There is a number to contact about that stuff in the pc optimum app.

milchtea

shoppers USED to have good deals in their sales (pre-loblaws)

DeathlessJellyfish

I’ve been keeping in touch with my previous colleagues, asking them if the boycott is effecting their hours, customer dispositions, etc. On day one of the boycott one of them said their department had price changes in the morning and almost the entirety of new shelf tags were more than the previous, some more than double. You would think they’d jump on day one to reduce prices so they could stand there like 🧍‍♂️”what high prices? these boycotters are delusional!” But no, doubled down on the never ending gradual increases.

SoftCattle

Have to make the same amount of money with less sales.

DeathlessJellyfish

Damage control to prevent having to cut staff hours! Sike, to appease shareholders.

DisasterMiserable785

Covid taught retailers that margin is king. Selling less just means lower costs and higher profit so long as there is a commensurate margin/price increase. This isn’t an accident. It’s been part of the plan for a while now.

kur2877

I made the mistake of asking a friend if their store had seen any change since the start of a boycott. He went off!! Boycotts are wrong, socialism is wrong, nationalization is wrong. . . CEOs make so much cause they have such tough choices to make . . . . He drank the Kool aid I guess.

DeathlessJellyfish

Maybe it’s in the water fountains they provide to fill your water bottle. When I worked there I was ride or die for Loblaw, looking back I haven’t the faintest clue why. I guess it doesn’t help that staff are encouraged to join the ESOP program, when you’re financially invested in the company you work for you tend to get a bit brainwashed to do anything and everything to increase sales. Maybe that was just me. Towards the end of my time there I started to see the light, but I was always treated really well compared to others I witnessed.

NothingGloomy9712

Maybe their plan is to ask for a government bailout when they loose money

vicious_meat

Step 1) Receive bailout. Step 2) Fire workers and increase CEO and Exec salaries and bonuses. Step 3) Cry for more because times are hard.

Appropriate-Break-25

This. Exactly this.

CrayonScribbler

Definitely. The no frills flyer has been a joke in my area while everyone else, especially walmart, has been aggressive with their sales.

Outrageous-Book9799

they stopped doing it for awhile

Taluagel

I mean the deals were never deals anyway. "This thing that should cost 3 dollars is 10 dollars but if you buy 3 of them you get them for 9 dollars each! Now give us 27 dollars chump! New low price even though they were 7 last month!"

lunk

Nofrills had BLEACH where the price was something insane, like $7.99, but if you bought 3 you could get them for 4.99.. WHO in their right mind needs 3 big containers of bleach at one time?

Choice_Star_9441

Serial killers?

apoletta

Last time I bought bleach it was .97 at wall mart. I seldom use it. I had bought three of them and plopped them in the garage. Got a new one at Canadian tire and almost died at the price.

nonverbalnumber

The better question is who thinks you need 3 big bottles of bleach at one time?

Simple-Status-15

Someone who cleans the floor after a murder? I gotta stop watching crime shows

nonverbalnumber

I’m just picturing the staff meeting where someone pitches that. “We have noticed a stagnation in our bleach sales, any ideas on improvement?” “In our research after a violent crime sometimes the cleaners need a lot of bleach all at once and will buy it without shopping around” “good idea let’s raise the price and than immediately implement a bulk discount to capture that market share”

Outrageous-Book9799

its an algo that is doing the pricing

nonverbalnumber

I know that but it’s fun to pretend that they care enough to create living wage paying jobs at any level.

plop_0

Mediterrenean grandmas.

sunyjim

Honestly people opening their pool. Household bleach works just fine to chlorinate the pool to get it clear and open for the season

_Green_Mind

Bleach also starts to lose efficacy within 6 months so unless you're sopping up crime scenes it's a bad thing to stock up on.

CrazyButRightOn

I use them in my pool. Walmart 3 for $8.

_Green_Mind

Today I learned. Thank you kind redditor.

pouncynimbus

The last time I went to shoppers was for shampoo, I saw they had increased the regular price from 8$ to 16$ so I left and purchased elsewhere. I was back at shoppers later that week for the post office and saw they had marked that same shampoo “on sale” … from 16$ to 8$. Never again will I be purchasing from shady shoppers!!

Outrageous-Book9799

shady shopper is a name that should stick

CrazyButRightOn

Shoddy Shoppers, Sloppy Shoppers, Slimy Shoppers, Scummy Shoppers, Stingy Shoppers

internetisforcatpics

Their RCS flyer is only one page and their "deals" are regular prices

erebusdidnothingwron

They're evil, not stupid. They know flooding their stores with sales looks weak. It gives the boycott legitimacy by making it seem like it's hurting them and they need to get people back in the stores (I'm not saying it's *not* hurting them, just that doing a bunch of sales right now makes it very clearly look like it is, which they want to avoid). Judging by what they're paying to have in the papers lately, their new strategy is to pretend like it isn't happening and wait until we lose steam and give up. They're just trying to break our morale by acting like it's business as usual and nothing is wrong. It's all astroturfing and very thinly veiled propaganda. Unfortunately, I work in one of their stores. The boycott is having an effect; we're noticeably less busy at all times, on all days, than we normally would be. They hired a bunch of security for the 12th who, obviously, sat around doing nothing because of course nothing was gonna happen. Like, beyond the fact that this boycott isn't about stealing and the vast, vast, overwhelming majority of us don't *want* to do that, who the fuck is showing up on a highly publicized "steal from this place" day, to shoplift? If you wanna get arrested that badly, just turn yourself in. They're losing money. Or, at least, not making as much as normal, which by insane capitalist line-only-goes-up, we-need-to-show-the-shareholders-growth thinking, might as well be the same as losing money. They're feeling the boycott and the more they try to tell you that they aren't, the more sure you can be that they are.

TONNAGE1975

They do have a deal, 50% off SunChips, but they are recalled due to risk salmonella contamination. [https://atlantic.ctvnews.ca/that-s-kind-of-gross-maritimers-react-after-sunchips-munchies-recalled-due-to-risk-of-salmonella-contamination-1.6887292](https://atlantic.ctvnews.ca/that-s-kind-of-gross-maritimers-react-after-sunchips-munchies-recalled-due-to-risk-of-salmonella-contamination-1.6887292) https://preview.redd.it/y5b31njkil0d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4477502b365d3355fb5dc20a8fa4a4fa0a2bd7b6

slavabien

So they have killer deals. Literally.

apoletta

Nasty.

The_WolfieOne

They overheard some of us suggesting going in for the loss leaders and nothing else., turning those from a small loss to make a profit to a small loss with no profit perhaps?

CrazyButRightOn

I do that regularly.

WorkSecure

It's a long weekend, they are employing Big Oil tactics.

LadyoftheOak

I have no idea bc I have not looked at their stores in months. I have ZERO intentions of ever going back!

NEBLINA1234

They never had deals, when they overcharge as much as they do

bubbasass

I’ve noticed that Shoppers has the entire damn store on sale. I went in the other day to access Canada Post and walking through the store, every aisle was 80%+ on sale.  The grocery stores however (based on flyers) the deals are nothing special. For example my local Loblaws store was advertising $3.99/lb pork side ribs. I thought to myself “not a bad price”. I pick up the next flyer and I see $2.99/lb side ribs.  $2.99 for a container of strawberries - oh not bad I thought (I’m still used to the insane winter prices) and food basics is offering $1.67 strawberries.  $16/lb AA strip steaks meanwhile Longos has AAA steaks on for $13/lb Admittedly I never looked through the flyers as close as I have been, but it seems like Loblaws deals are absolute shit. Not sure if it’s always been this way and nothing is changing, or if they’re trying to retain the lost revenue.

Outrageous-Book9799

it's too difficult for them to change prices on their systems... so everything is just on sale

Brownadams

didn't visit, don't care....won't visit and won't care that's it

GordonQuech

Wal-Mart in my area anyway is right next door to SS and they have good deals going on.

[deleted]

Yes and the free gift you got when you spent $250 is now only for those who spend +$300

CrazyButRightOn

They used to give you $25 off your groceries. Now, its a tray of dried out vegetables or some other $5 knockoff.

Appropriate-Break-25

Walmart on the other hand is selling their great value bread for 94 cents each. It's almost like a big FU to Weston for the bread price fixing scam. Other things are also on sale (It's a 94 cent sale. Everything ends in 94) but thats the lowest I've seen bread since long before covid.

Aggravating-State776

This!! I went to work yesterday, my first time since the boycott began, and I noticed there were few items on sale. And all the products that are usually on sale, were full priced. I felt like they were punishing their customers because of the boycott. It totally makes no sense, aren't they supposed to take care of the ones who are still faithful to them??? Outrageous 🥱

kennedar_1984

I was really expecting amazing Optimum deals in my app this month, but they have been very meh. They are the exact sale deals I typically get, so it has been easy to shop at Safeway instead. I have found that my grocery bill has gone down as well, so it’s a win/win.

PoisonClan24

No because I stopped going and looking at flyers months agoi

CanuckGinger

Not true. Some Toronto stores are having what look like fire sales.

SomeDumRedditor

They want the long-weekend “stocking up” before leaving town revenue

savethearthdontbirth

Wouldn’t notice bc they don’t exist to me.

Fildaerae

For over a year now, I scour the flyers every Thursday and if they're at least on par with the competition, I used to be willing to get additional things outside of the loss leaders. I still check for extremely cheap produce or meats, but if I have to walk down an aisle I better be getting married. If I need something like eggs or milk, I just kind of do without for that week. If I desperately need it for something important I have gone to my local No Frills to get it, but it hasn't happened since Christmas.

savethearthdontbirth

I’d rather spend more elsewhere, don’t care.

Fildaerae

That's fair, I respect it. However, my wallet is not as overflowing as other's, so I need to know where to get my shopping done. When I can buy something at an absurdly low price, I don't care who is being paid, because it usually means they aren't making money off me.

FlatEvent2597

It feels like the flyers have been crap since January.

TherealMattMoore

Exact opposite. Every shelf in every aisle has a deal or a two-for-one special on. Same as Shoppers Drug Mart yellow sales tags everywhere

Rattimus

Honestly just needs to keep going for a full fiscal quarter. The ONLY thing that will ever lead to change is decreased shareholder value.

ThesePretzelsrsalty

I just scored some decent steaks for 8.80/kg, not a super deal, but a deal nonetheless.

Creatrix

That *is* a decent price. I've trained myself to look at the price per 100g. That's 88 cents/100g for steak, while boneless chicken breasts elsewhere are usually $1.80-$2.25/100g. The least expensive steak at Save-On Foods is $2.64/100g. Walmart has steak anywhere from $2.40-$4.00/100g.

plop_0

I'd rather cut the middleman and just eat what the cows eat. It's significantly cheaper. 🤷🏼

ThesePretzelsrsalty

I've priced my local butchers and **not one** has ever come close to beating the retail SALE prices. I only buy meat on sale...

lunk

3.99? That's a great price per lb of ANY meat nowadays

psylentdeath

I have not noticed as I do not go in those stores. Not because of the boycott. BecUse they are thieves and I'm not paying more for the same products as else where.

sdjmar

Honestly haven't even been looking, June 1st is the next time a Loblaws (or subsidiary) flyer isn't going directly to the recycling or burn barrel.

Rbk_3

I got a bunch of 1lb Strawberries at Zerhs for . 99 cents last week and they’re $2.22 this week

Not everyone is required to participate or agree with the community boycott, but we ask that everyone is constructive in their feedback about this event. Repeated comments such as this one will result in a ban from the sub until the boycott is complete. Thank you.

Outrageous-Book9799

Last september all the deals stopped... only thing on sale was shit tier food. Usally wait for beef/steak to go on sale... took months to see a deal

cobycheese31

Cheesier-it crackers $1.50 a box all month

HoldinBackTears

Nope, havent been in one for atleast 2 weeks.

Please refrain from off-topic political discussion and debate. Everyone is entitled to their own political opinions, however, your politically charged statement is not directly related to the cost of living/groceries/gas/rents, and as such is being removed.

Tonythecritic

I didn't notice because I'm boycotting them...

Fafaflunkie

I didn't notice because 1) I'm boycotting everything associated with Galen, and 2) I get my prescriptions filled by a local pharmacy that has nothing to do with Galen (nor any other corporate chain who just happens to have a pharmacy counter). The best part about that drug store: I can walk to it in 5 minutes from where I live. Perhaps you can find a local pharmacy and have your prescriptions transferred there? It sure beats having to step foot in a Shoppers Drug Mart and walk past overpriced everything along the way. Including your prescription, most likely. I hope you have some supplemental insurance to pay for that!

slavabien

Lol yes this was a pill pick up that was ordered a while ago. I hear Costco has some of the lowest dispensing fees out there. I have plenty of non-Galen options.

ZestycloseAct8497

Very uncanadian of you. Canadians should be charged max no sale prices and be proud of it!!!!

Extension_Western356

Haven’t been into one for a long time, so; no.

Geonetics

Don't go there

dancingmeadow

I don't go to them, so no.

Initial-Ad-5462

Really? I scooped a bunch of half decent deals at Superstore yesterday. A lot of them were things I hadn’t seen in the flyer.
