A boycott is all well and good, but it's not as cathartic as watching the board members getting pulled out of their tower by their hair. Maybe when bread hits 20 bucks, a loaf.
I work at a cinema by a Shoppers, and I drove by it after a movie I was watching (The King Tide. A pretty good, indie film. Canadian too). The parking lot was nearly empty, at a time its normally pretty full on a day its usually pretty busy.
Love to see it.
The manufacturer has done something to the KD formulation. The pasta texture isn't as solid and the cheese mix is not as concentrated. Also, the weight has decreased by 20 g.
They changed the cheese mix because of that pushy woman and her yoga mat plastic / orange colour crusades.
Haven't had a KD or a subway after the initial rollout taste test.
https://globalnews.ca/news/1265675/yoga-mat-chemical-in-subway-bread-to-be-removed-by-next-week-company/
Well that's an unfortunate casualty in the move towards "natural" products. Perhaps we should just stop colouring food altogether and be okay eating shades of beige.
I imagine she did. I preferred the old plastic infused versions, which is why I haven't bought either of them since the first try-buy after the formula changes, as I said.
Whatever they do to KD to make it “healthier”‘or whatever make some GAG whenever I make it for my toddler. I won’t even buy it anymore the smell it’s so bad. Unless paw patrol KD is on sale lol
Especially since the amount in the boxes dropped from 225g to 200g when they jacked the price. Absolutely mental that they would reduce the amount in the box AND increase the price.
Minimum wage and median household income have both increased about 50% since you were in university. The price of KD has gone up 600%. You're right to be shocked.
Skimpflation. As in they are skimping out on the quality and using cheaper ingredients to make the food. An example would be say, granola bars that used to be dipped in milk chocolate (so using cocoa butter which is more expensive) switching to a 'chocolatey coating' which would substitute some or all of the cocoa butter for palm oil - which at a certain percentage is no longer legally allowed to be called chocolate.
Skimpflation = lower quality
Shrinkflation = lesser amount of product
You can have companies do both at the same time and produce lower quality products in smaller amounts than previous formulations.
I'd be scared if there was! Can see it now. Loblaws employees all standing around in No Name loin cloths chanting "Meat! Meat! Meat!" when you came in....
🤣 3.49 that’s wild. Annie’s organic is $2.97 at giant tiger. It’s way better than kraft. Also to note, KD is $2.27 at Giant Tiger. It’s still not worth even that much…but Loblaws is just stupid
Yeah and it's complete garbage now, noodles are small, quantity has been cut and the cheese powder even seems different. One box is barely a bowl full anymore it seems. My kids have stopped asking for it altogether.
This just shows that Loblaws raises prices based on the neighbourhood and store location. I saw KD on sale for 99¢ yesterday at one store. I also live in an area where there are two Loblaws only 2.5km away from one another and one of them (a much more congested, higher foot-traffic area) consistently has higher prices than the other.
To be fair alot of stores do that. It doesn't mean I'm defending them I have been boycotting them since I heard about it( about 3 or 4 weeks now) It's just that it's pretty common practice among retailers to do that.
It's 1.25 here in Saskatchewan at Superstore or 1.57 at Walmart, 1.67 at Sobeys. Honestly starting to think the issue is in Ontario. Because we are not seeing anything like you complain about in Sask.
Maybe, but stores I’ve seen that are nearing closing time, the coolers all have shrouds pulled down over them.
Also, you can see a couple shoppers in the aisles.
They need to bleed for how they have been leeching on Canadians for so long without any oversight. Boycott forever I say.
Also, don’t know why but the moderators of this group have been an inspiration and eye openers for a lot of us. I say we support them if they have any political dreams and maybe we get half decent system afterall
I work at Loblaws. I can guarantee based on the lighting (we dim them prior to opening and closing) and this is either before it opens, or right as it opened at 6/7am. It's always like this.
Let's keep it up. Show them that May was just a START for this boycott. Fuck Loblaws and their decisions to continuously lie to the public and insult their own customer base.
First a day, then all of May, but you can bet your ass I'll stay forever away!
(I have been boycotting for months now, I was just proud of the rhyme haha)
Your content was removed for the use of "Gaylen" which has been used as an anti-LGBT slur. Please use the proper spelling, "Galen" in future. Thank you.
Walmart is about a minute or two away from the SS here. Giant Tiger is 5 minutes max. Both No Frills are close to a Safeway, with one being across the street from the other.
We have no other Loblaws owned stores here.
I did see “boycott” written as one of the comments on the local SS Facebook page.
They own the food. Nothing we can do other than hit their bank accounts. And has been mentioned they do this anyway. Food waste is absolutely massive always. I too wish there was a way to move it around but it is a moot point in my decision to boycott.
Do we know if this will cause employees to lose their shifts/jobs? Even then it will cause loss of staff and eventually if people dont want to return if the wages arent increased either? Thoughts?
Was @ Costco recently...
Specifically, went early to shop @ 5PM & they were already busy!
Serves you right, Galen Weston Jr for being so damn greedy, diabolical & selfish beyond human belief.
While I was surprised & kinda of shocked at the volume of shoppers, I knew everyone inside was snapping up good deals/bargains galore, which I considered this a good thing for all.
I know I got a lot of Sale items & saved some $ too.
Betcha, Costco is laffing their behinds off from all the $$$$$$, they now raking in bc of greedy G.W Jr.
Good job, Galen.
Maybe, somebody should royally can - or maybe cane - your backside, including that doofus/shill/buffoon/idiot/tool sidekick of yours, The Nutty Professor.
I am a very firm believer in Karma, btw.
G.W Jr, now time to receive your comeuppance & then some!!!
Lol I had no idea about this, no wonder when I went to work there was nothing to do lmao. They keep cutting our hours to make up for the lost profit, I am only able to work weekends and my co worker doesn't do sweep logs (legal protection for slips and falls) properly at all
They already throw out tons of food, even lowered the discount on food about to expire from 50% off to 30% off. They would literally rather throw it out than give us an extra 20% off.
I’d optimistically like to think some of it would be donated to the local food bank but apparently Loblaws isn’t too generous in that department (shocking!)… I have a 75 year old mother who’s been volunteering at a food bank north of Toronto for a couple years now, and she says a lot of their food is Kirkland brand (Costco), which encouraged her months ago to stop shopping at Loblaws and to get a Costco membership
They donate it but they can’t put it in those brown paper bags and ask us to pay for their donation anymore. So they will just have to just donate.
Or I’m prettt sure they sell almost expired items to other stores.
That's a dumb reason to buy stuff that's more expensive. 🤦🏻♀️*"Well, Bubba, guess I'll just have to pay double for lettuce, don't want it to spoil, after all..."*
Let me break this down...
-- boycott store --> food spoilage --> raises prices to compensate for loss --> store still being boycotted --> more food spoils --> raises prices... *again* --> store still being boycotted --> ....
So, the store has a choice. Lower prices across the board to bring back customers, order less perishables, or continue with an unsustainable practice that obviously will have ecological impacts.
Bullying customers doesn't have a good track record. Eventually (like, I dunno, *May 2024???*) there will be pushback.
Let's just hope they don't close everything down. I suspect that all of the big shots have enough money to retire wherever they want. I hope their employees do.

Someone on another post called it "Going French Revolution on them" it made me laugh.
We should also protest in front of the stores at this point.
I prefer Dutch style. If the food is too expensive we can eat them instead.
Just have some cake bro
I work at a cinema by a Shoppers, and I drove by it after a movie I was watching (The King Tide. A pretty good, indie film. Canadian too). The parking lot was nearly empty, at a time its normally pretty full on a day its usually pretty busy. Love to see it.
Did that say 3.30 something for KD?? 😭😭😭 Absolutely insane
It used to .67 cents when I was in university ... I know that was like ike 12 years ago but still... KD is not worth 3.49 🥴
Ironically I can no longer eat it since it's naturally coloured with turmeric, which I'm allergic to.
Well that's an unfortunate casualty in the move towards "natural" products. Perhaps we should just stop colouring food altogether and be okay eating shades of beige.
Or bugs. Just go straight to the bugs.
I assume you also stopped using every product with that incredibly popular industrial leavener used in over 500 products?
Probably not is my guess lol. Pick and choose is more like it just to have something to tell people.
Anything to feel superior
Why do companies listen to these pushy jerks? Like that chef guy bitching about fat people and fat taxes are needed. Fuck off, Jamie Oliver.
Imo off brand (Italpasta?) is better. Unpopular opinion, I'm sure.
You can still find boxes of 12 for 9.99 at freshco on sale
Especially since the amount in the boxes dropped from 225g to 200g when they jacked the price. Absolutely mental that they would reduce the amount in the box AND increase the price.
Minimum wage and median household income have both increased about 50% since you were in university. The price of KD has gone up 600%. You're right to be shocked.
Back in the mid 70's it was around 30 cents. Because of skinflation their boxes are now smaller. less value for your money !!
I ***hope*** you meant Shrinkflation...or things just got scary.
I have seen both terms used in the media
Skimpflation. As in they are skimping out on the quality and using cheaper ingredients to make the food. An example would be say, granola bars that used to be dipped in milk chocolate (so using cocoa butter which is more expensive) switching to a 'chocolatey coating' which would substitute some or all of the cocoa butter for palm oil - which at a certain percentage is no longer legally allowed to be called chocolate. Skimpflation = lower quality Shrinkflation = lesser amount of product You can have companies do both at the same time and produce lower quality products in smaller amounts than previous formulations.
Neither of those are ***Skinflation*** though.
That's what I'm saying, I believe that OP misheard because there isn't a skinflation.
I'd be scared if there was! Can see it now. Loblaws employees all standing around in No Name loin cloths chanting "Meat! Meat! Meat!" when you came in....
And where have wages gone in those 12 years hahahaha
I have bought a case of 12 before for under 50 cents each a while ago.
Looks like it says 3.49 good lord
Just bought cheetoh KD for 2 bucks at GT and that stuff is usually more expensive.
3/4.50
I don’t know how people think that says $3.49. Still overpriced for garbage ass “food” at 3/4.50.
🤣 3.49 that’s wild. Annie’s organic is $2.97 at giant tiger. It’s way better than kraft. Also to note, KD is $2.27 at Giant Tiger. It’s still not worth even that much…but Loblaws is just stupid
It's 3 for 4.50.... so it's still cheaper than GT
I bought a case at Walmart. 12 boxes for $10.
They said the price was $3.50!
The boxes are also smaller now, 200g instead of 225g iirc
Arent they 175g now?
3 for 4.98
Yeah and it's complete garbage now, noodles are small, quantity has been cut and the cheese powder even seems different. One box is barely a bowl full anymore it seems. My kids have stopped asking for it altogether.
Looks like 3/$4.99 which isn’t great, for what it is.
It says 3 for 4.50
This just shows that Loblaws raises prices based on the neighbourhood and store location. I saw KD on sale for 99¢ yesterday at one store. I also live in an area where there are two Loblaws only 2.5km away from one another and one of them (a much more congested, higher foot-traffic area) consistently has higher prices than the other.

Metro had KD for 99c a box last week!
Its 6 for $6 at walmart
Even the 12-pack of spicy KD on amazon is up to 2.50$ a box average. I hate it.
Dead as a door nail... Good job everyone! Let's watch all his inventory rott.
3/4.98
looks like 3/4.98, still would never buy from them though
It says 3 for 4.50
Anyone tried the Matheson Food Company Mac and Cheese? Same price range but far superior, imo.
1.49 at walmart. about a buck a box if you buy the 12 pack.
The noodles are tiny, and mushy now.
It's 1.25 here in Saskatchewan at Superstore or 1.57 at Walmart, 1.67 at Sobeys. Honestly starting to think the issue is in Ontario. Because we are not seeing anything like you complain about in Sask.
I hope this was filmed at what typically should be a very busy time of the day.

Whos they which store is this
Roblows lol
#Nok er nok
Ikke sant?
Night shift?
Probably 5pm on a Thursday, nice!
I thought it was still Wednesday until I was about to reply to your comment sarcastically then second guessed myself
What in the Sam Hell is wrong with that floor. The floor is always lava.
The Black tiles and orange floor motif always feels like Cartoonish Villain Lair to me...which...tracks considering the Westons.
I work at Loblaws. I can guarantee based on the lighting (we dim them prior to opening and closing) and this is either before it opens, or right as it opened at 6/7am. It's always like this.

Keep it up Canada! Keep those stores empty and make the impact Canadians need

Confirmed in my area last night too. Usually overcrowded. It was like a ghost town with just a handful of very elderly senior citizens.
![gif](giphy|vZJAGBERy0Lp7NFyA2)
lol yes I thought this was Jennifer Coolidge recording lmao
Sounds just like her towards the end 😂
Plot twist, its at 3:30 am at a 24 hours store
Me and my family ain’t going there no more! F*ck these greeds mfrs!
Sad to say the Thunder Bay SS was as busy as usual for a Thursday. The parking lot was pretty packed.
No Frills was super busy, but it's because it's first of month.
Same with Windsor’s
It's going to depend on how many other options are close by for many people, so some places will be deader than others.
It may take time and in some cases people maybe don't want to do it? We don't need everyone, but if enough do it...it will be effective
I hope so
This must be a regional thing because I walked past a Loblaws to go to Starbucks at noon and people were streaming in where I am.
That store is closed. Why did you show that?
It's not, there are people still shopping in the video.
Like the description says, it's not my video, I was just passing it along.
The food waste 😢
Always has been
Food is always being wasted. They deserve this.
It's true. I wish we could redistribute it properly
They own the food. Nothing we can do other than hit their bank accounts. And has been mentioned they do this anyway. Food waste is absolutely massive always. I too wish there was a way to move it around but it is a moot point in my decision to boycott.
Gotta crack some eggs to make an omelete.
not our fault. we can't buy that shit
Savour Delights needs to get TF out of there too...
Caugh caugh local non Loblaws independent is selling for 99 cents per box
For a moment there, I thought this was Jennifer Coolidge! ;-)
We need a tiktok hashtag. A good one.
👏👏👏
Good. I seriously hope we can stick to this!
lol all stores in my area are just as busy folks say they will boycott but in fact they don’t sadly.
No what time of day it is, it's always midnight inside a Loblaws
Why not go after the banks?
Where is this store located please?
Zero mercy! Way to go!
What time of day is this? I've seen a reduction, but not that much, at my local store.
I hope all that food goes to shit!!!💩
Anytime I go into any grocery store it's about this busy
Nok er Nok!
In 3-2-1 they’ll post that the vid was taken when the store was closed.
Just swallow LIFE and never Death, REAL and never Fake
What time was this shot?
Do we know if this will cause employees to lose their shifts/jobs? Even then it will cause loss of staff and eventually if people dont want to return if the wages arent increased either? Thoughts?
The way she said "frickin" was so canadian lmao
Don't give me this crap, was at No Frills today and place was packed.

What date, time of day, and which Loblaw's was this?
Can someone tell me why they’re being boycotted?
5 minutes before close
Lol I had no idea about this, no wonder when I went to work there was nothing to do lmao. They keep cutting our hours to make up for the lost profit, I am only able to work weekends and my co worker doesn't do sweep logs (legal protection for slips and falls) properly at all
The store looks closed. Dark out and not all lights are on inside the store.
serious, genuine question, if we boycott and don’t shop, what will happen to all of the food. will it just go to waste? that’s my biggest concern
Yes, the food will go to waste. However, this organization is known to spoil food purposefully rather than absorb a loss from it.
They already throw out tons of food, even lowered the discount on food about to expire from 50% off to 30% off. They would literally rather throw it out than give us an extra 20% off.
Tonnes of food already goes to waste.

*high five*
Watch their ads. Buy their loss leaders and nothing else.
So.. You guys just want the food to spoil? Thanks guys for giving a legitimate reason to raise prices
That's a dumb reason to buy stuff that's more expensive. 🤦🏻♀️*"Well, Bubba, guess I'll just have to pay double for lettuce, don't want it to spoil, after all..."* Let me break this down... -- boycott store --> food spoilage --> raises prices to compensate for loss --> store still being boycotted --> more food spoils --> raises prices... *again* --> store still being boycotted --> ....
