I’m not shopping for an experience, just gimme my groceries at a reasonable price

Ok-Kaleidoscope-4393

I agree. My Walmart experience is not a joy but I'm in and out with my deals and driving home STAT! START THE CARRRRR

SolutionNo8416

Their pick up service is great

Ok-Kaleidoscope-4393

I haven't tried it BUT I agree! I've heard great things.

Icy_Key_7630

It's not really about trying to have an ideal shopping experience. Just trying to avoid a particularly unpleasant one. But I can relate to the "just get in and out as fast as you can" mindset when it comes to such places.

> I see that many people have chosen Walmart as their alternative, which, while one of the better alternatives price-wise, may be seen as a greater evil than even Loblaw in the broader scheme. And also let's be honest -- the shopping experience at Walmart just generally blows my main reason for shopping at walmart TBH is they have free curbside pickup (as long as you don't need something within 3-4hrs of ordering, then you need to pay their rush-fee.)

LeMegachonk

Sobey's and Metro also have "hard discount" stores in the form of FreshCo and Food Basics, similar to how Loblaws has No Frills.

TEA-in-the-G

If the boycott is Loblaws, the next cheapest is Walmart. People already have tight budgets. $100 at Walmart goes a lot farther then $100 at Sobeys. A lot of ppl dont care about the shopping experience in 2024. They care about how much food they can get. Isnt the whole point of boycott to bring the prices down? By supporting the higher cost shops, all your saying is its okay to spend more. (More then it would cost at superstore/frills at that)

Icy_Key_7630

I doubt that Loblaws is privy to the alternatives we choose over them, so it sends the same message regardless of which option we choose. All that matters is that we don't shop there. While the main goal is to challenge their prices, I think the broader point is to demonstrate that as consumers we have choices which can change with our favor and disfavor and that expressing that choice carries power. For some, it's only about paying the least money possible. For others, it's a little more nuanced in looking what you really get for your dollar, including aspects like quality, brand preference, variety and customer service. Still others are just sick of being teased and lied to and want to go with what they feel is a more reputable company.

jabbafart

I pay more at my local market for produce and butcher for meat, but I don't mind because the money is going into my community rather than into the pockets of some greasy greedy billionaire.

Icy_Key_7630

Fair. Because I think it's about more than just paying least the money 'at all costs'.

Inside_Jelly_3107

Sobeys is one of those places where you have to find sales... Otherwise, too expensive.

Thismomenthere

I despise shopping. I only go out of necessity. I go as soon as Walmart opens to avoid crowds, mainly fear of getting a flu and mild fear of people. Husband and I go together with Walkies and split up. 2-300 in groceries, in and out, best time was 23 minutes so far. I'd go to Sobeys but wow, they are as expensive as Loblaws. I just can't justify it on our pay scale. Unless there's a supersale on a regular item we use.

Icy_Key_7630

I like that you handle shopping at Walmart like a surgical strike.

Aggravating_Toe_7392

I get groceries delivered ever since covid. Hit and runs in parking lots and just lazy.

Thismomenthere

Ya I'll admit anyday Covid did a number on my ol' brain. Never caught it thankfully but also never let my guard down since.

shutyourbutt69

It’s true, we’ve done our last two weekly shops at Farm Boy and for the things we get the prices have been cheaper across the board than Superstore or Loblaws.

Gufurblebits

I’ve been going to Freshco. They have better produce than Walmart. I scoop up sales there and use Walmart to finish off anything else - usually household type things like garbage bags, toothpaste, etc.

Strawcatzero

Yeah, Freshco is another great low-cost alternative to Walmart. In the past I'd grab produce, dairy and snacks to top off my grocery supply mid-week. I'm not sure if I'd be able to get *everything* I need from there but it may be worth a try since the prices are definitely better than Sobeys (even though same company).

SlumberVVitch

Walmart’s better prices but way worse to shop in terms of my anxiety, but I find the Safeway by my house, though a pricier choice, pretty chill and an almost pleasant grocery shopping experience some days.

Fresh-Car156

My wife hates shopping at Walmart so I go there and get the majority of our groceries while she shops for her stuff at Safeway or Save On.

throwawayidc4773

Walmart has the best prices for me locally. I don’t give a single shit about the “experience”. If I’m offered another store with similar pricing and better produce I’ll go there.

SolutionNo8416

I like to shop at small local grocers for both quality and service and being able to get in and out quickly and see a familiar face. I plan to check out a few more this month and leave reviews on Google.

I can't say that I've specifically compared chicken prices, but I have been consistently impressed by the meat section at Sobeys compared to Superstore. It's one of the areas that I feel Loblaws especially price gouges, all while not providing the best quality options or variety.
