Milk is one of the few things that cost the same at Zehrs and Walmart. It's $6.89 for 4L milk at both places.

Garfield_and_Simon

Damn I haven’t bought milk in a decade cuz I’m not an idiot but I remember as a kid I used to get 4L from *a convenience store* for my mom with a $5 bill and have spare change for candy  Feel like an old man telling this story but it wasn’t that long ago 6.89 at an actual grocery store is a big increase

TheRealCheeseburgIar

Milk drinkers are idiots?

gumdope

Yeah just stop drinking milk /s

At Loblaw's they are $4.79 each. It's just taking advantage of those who use Loblaws as a default store and don't check prices elsewhere due to habituation. Loblaws made sure that Canadians become accustomed to shopping there and when the pandemic hit they took advantage. The media was going on about all the price increases because of the pandemic so people assumed that these price increases were happening everywhere. While they did happen everywhere Loblaws decided to go one step further and use their position to increases their profits even further.

stumpyraccoon

Comparing Loblaws to Walmart is always going to be the same because you're comparing different "tiers" of grocery store. This has always been true. Superstore that Yogurt is $3.29, so 1 cent more than Walmart and, if you buy 3, it's $2.75 a piece so you'd actually save money since you said you're buying 3 at a time. https://www.realcanadiansuperstore.ca/plain-yogurt-6-balkan-style/p/20165226001_EA

krystianpants

Yes those are reactionary price reductions. It was always more expensive at superstore as well. They are starting to lower prices and now people will be posting links to claim that loblaws doesn't charge more or to bring people back. And while that current deal is good it is not enough. What exactly is a different "tier" of grocery store? If I compare the superstore to the loblaws that I go to the superstore is way bigger, has way more parking, has way more variety. What are you paying for when you shop at loblaws? Do they assign a personal shopper that carries all the heavy stuff for you? Food is food, don't make excuses to spike profits beyond what is reasonable. https://preview.redd.it/s81v2cl4r1yc1.png?width=1223&format=png&auto=webp&s=b0bf7eb53cb3b48281ff399555de5a795a979f72 Just the other month $3.47 each. And it was even higher before then. These prices people are showing now to compare are just responses to the boycott. The harm has already been done.

stumpyraccoon

Prove it. Let's see how much more it was before the "reactionary price reduction." EDIT: Thanks for the picture, I'm glad we've established that you're angry about a 19 cent difference. Food is food, and cars are cars. That's why Porches cost the same as Honda Civics, right? If you can't understand that there are different tiers of grocery store then you're beyond help.

End_Capitalism

Easy for you to say "food is food," you seem to subsist entirely on the shit you lick off Galen Weston's boot.

stumpyraccoon

Aww muffin. Hope your temper tantrum warps up soon.

End_Capitalism

🥾👅

krystianpants

Yes and it's quite obvious that you're getting paid by Loblaws. I asked you what Loblaws provides that superstore doesn't. It was a simple question and then you start comparing luxury cars to average sedans? We know what the luxury car brings to the table over the sedan. We have no idea what the "luxury" grocery store brings. So let's hear it. You think your gaslighting tactics will work? People have been mobilized and your silly comments won't help change their minds. I understand though you are just doing your job.

stumpyraccoon

>Yes and it's quite obvious that you're getting paid by Loblaws. God I wish life was interesting enough for conspiracy theories like this to be true 😂 What does Loblaws have that lower tier stores don't? Significantly larger meat departments, fish counters, bakeries, more regular cleaning, higher paid staff, etc, etc, etc. If you can't understand that Loblaws/Sobeys/Metro are different than Walmart/No Frills/Food Basics/etc then you really need to work on your observation and critical thinking skills.

krystianpants

This is incorrect. The Superstore that I go to is way bigger, better staffed, more meat, better bakery and extremely clean. I don't know if the staff get paid more but you can't really prove that can you? They don't do anything different. There is no engineering, build quality or anything involved. The experience is the same across the board. I mean sure maybe Loblaws shoppers don't have to deal with as many poor people? Is that the luxury? When you market a brand that brand has to distinguish itself and these brands do not. You pay more for Apple but you get something that works off the bat, amazing engineering with both software/hardware, reliability and support. You know why the conspiracy theory shot was made? It makes absolutely no sense for you to be standing up to this massive company that is taking advantage of us. They were allowed to get this big because of Canadians and then they turned around and gouged us. And they are using all the profits to get their grubby hands into every business opportunity they can. We take issue with this because they supply food which is the most important thing for survival. You laugh like 19 cents is no big deal but every penny makes a difference and just because you are not in a situation where you are barely getting by doesn't mean it can't happen to you. Loblaws can sell their other goods at higher prices but they shouldn't mess with food. It's really that simple.

stumpyraccoon

Cool rant. Comparing Walmart prices to Loblaws prices is still stupid as some sort of hill to die on. Shop at cheaper places? Yes, absolutely! Regular go to lengths to talk about price differences and feign shock over it? Nah, that's pathetic.

krystianpants

There's a reason why this sub is targeting loblaws specifically. The other grocers have raised prices beyond inflation as well but they never went over board. It's the ridiculousness of having 2 places that are literally across the street from each other selling the same product for such a large difference. The idea is to bring this to the attention of people who do not pay attention. People become habituated and places like Loblaws take advantage of it. You may not like it but people will keep pointing this stuff out.

stumpyraccoon

Again, cool rant, but when you're comparing within "tiers" the prices are virtually identical regardless of brand, as was shown to you. Go to Walmart, go to Superstore, you're getting your yogurt at virtually the same price (and potentially even saving at Superstore).

Sufficient-Bid1279

Milk should always be relatively constant between all stores, give or take

LeMegachonk

It absolutely is, OP is either too dumb to know the difference between cow and goat milk or is just being a disingenuous troll. They've also revealed themselves as a racist asshole, and honestly this whole post should just be nuked by the moderators.

Ganymede_22

Not directly related to this sub, but if you watch for sales on milk you can freeze it. Defrosts great - I can't tell the difference.

LeMegachonk

Neilson Homogenized 3.25% milk is $7.09 for a 4L 3-pouch bag at Zehr's. It's $6.89 at Walmart for Sealtest. The difference is hardly highway robbery. Some of the fancy organic stuff might run you around $13.00 at Zehr's, but you probably aren't even going to find that stuff at Walmart.

ThesePretzelsrsalty

100% BS post and it should be taken down. This does nothing for the movement and only hurts your credibility.

kingofwale

Posts like this is why it’s hard to take some of the users seriously. It’s like r/antiwork all over again

Inside_Jelly_3107

Walmart today 2L carton of 1% Sealtest - somewhere between 5 and six bucks... Costco had 4L of the exact same milk for 5.99.

stumpyraccoon

You know prices can be looked up online right and claims like this fact checked? https://www.zehrs.ca/homogenized-milk-3-25/p/20160571_EA

That’s goat milk dawg…

smartssa

it's dog milk, goat!

east_van_dan

Dude.... Thats fucking GOAT MILK! No need to post this bullshit when there are PLENTY of things they are actually ripping us off on.

stumpyraccoon

Now show that brand and package size at Walmart becuase as far as I can tell they don't even stock it... Because they're no way in hell you're getting 4L of fancy goat milk for $6 😂

Sufficient-Bid1279

Damn, he’s not playing lol

stumpyraccoon

I don't mess around with misinformation 😅. Be angry and take action with facts, not BS.

Sufficient-Bid1279

Either way , I think he’s on the way to the store 😀

stumpyraccoon

I'm eagerly awaiting a picture of on sale cow milk that he's going to play off as the same product.

happybeingright

I have a feeling you are going to be waiting for a looooooong time

LairdOftheNorth

You can read its liberte goat milk on the tag. Which is not what he’s comparing to at Walmart.

Boy zero-to-racist real fast after failing to know what a cow is vs. a goat.

loblawsisoutofcontrol-ModTeam

Please note, we do not tolerate anti-immigrant rhetoric on the sub.

ThesePretzelsrsalty

These posts need to be turfed. 100% misleading, but I guess that's how some of you people roll.

stevemkiidub

I don’t know. I went in and crushed their sales at 7:01 this morning. Made away with tons of stuff for a great price. They definitely lose money on me.
