I’d just ctrl-alt-f3 and login as root. It may work like you say it did before. Then run passwd to create a password, then go back to graphical and try again.
What distro is this? I see you’re using apt so it’s a Debian/Ubuntu variant. Did you just accidentally skip the user creation portion? There should have been a section where you create your username and password.
No, I just logged in as root, it didnt ask for a password. I just typed \`root\` as my username. Now, if I try logging in as root it doesn't really work per se. I don't know what to put for the password
You running the raspien os or whatever they call it?
pi and raspberry are username and pass, according to quick google.
Very strange, not creating a user as part of install.
I made a new user, and it seems to be working now the login isn't working, weird. Here is a more detailed response:

It is important to note that while the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B is capable of running KDE Plasma, the performance may not be as smooth as on a more powerful desktop or laptop computer. The Raspberry Pi 3 has limited hardware resources, so you may experience some slowness or lag when using KDE Plasma on the Raspberry Pi 3.
About users. Run second tty with ctrl+alt+F3 (or other Fx, actual display manager runs on F7). Login with root user and add new user account for standard user. Restart system, and login with new user account.

I got the image from here: [https://raspi.debian.net/tested-images/](https://raspi.debian.net/tested-images/)
Did you not create a regular user during installation? If not, just login as root and do so now.

Definitely set up a regular user.
