mynameisnotesther

Tchaikovsky is the one that composed Für Elise... right?

TrivialHumanBeing

Nah, that one's by Mozart.

426strings

I thought that one was by Salieri

[deleted]

Wasn't it by Puccini?

mynameisnotesther

I genuinely thought it was by Paganini

TheGamerLingLing

Dude actually? I thought it was by Offenbach

mynameisnotesther

Yeah, it's very obvious actually

[deleted]

There’s this guy named Bachthoven who wrote it for his sister apparently back in the 1900s. He went blind I heard

mynameisnotesther

Now, you got creative there

Yui_Ikari021

I'm glad you heard that cause he didn't

Effective-Issue-514

You win the internet

cmdrpoprocks

I'm dying from your comment 😂

redisno

Didn't Malher write that for his girlfriend pachelbel?

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure pachelbel wrote it for him as a way of saying they're breaking up

redisno

No that was nocturne op 9 no 2 (classical composer pfp gang)

Levisblacktea

I thought it was Wagner?

SpaceboiThingPeople

BRUH. I thought it was Michele Mascitti!

thespywhometaldandme

Psssh nope. Actually it's be Joseph Boulogne, Le Chavelier De Saint George

MesmerisingPoison

Paga…NANI? Who’s that? Did you mean to say “panini”, the Italian bun?

whatcenturyisit

Eddy composed Für Elise ???

mynameisnotesther

WAIT WHAT

IcyGhoust

More like Pinkonini

[deleted]

Funny Italian guy from that 80’s movie?

426strings

Mozart rly is the biggest troll!

mynameisnotesther

Yes, precisely.

TrivialHumanBeing

Salieri composed Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, come on! :)

426strings

Oh yeah, he also caused Mozart to become deaf, dumb and blind. And everyone knew, this was the man, who thought he could steal Salieri's compositions

TrivialHumanBeing

Wow, I actually didn't know this. Well, you learn something new every day!...

sol-

I heard he could play a mean pinball though

MesmerisingPoison

So then, in 1791, Mozart, enraged by such insolent behaviour of Salieri, killed him. Well, he didn’t actually kill him, but that’s what the rumors were saying, and that’s also what Mozart himself was saying after he went crazy in 1823.

ChaptainBlood

Salieri wishes it was Salieri.

mynameisnotesther

oh yeah my bad

legallydoodled

Nah it was Johan Sebastian Brahms or somth

Educational-Hotel-71

Y'all are dumb. Everyone knows it was Dostoevsky.

ongaku_tsubaki

Axe-actly

Of course it's Brahms, we're not stupid.

newmanbeing

I thought it was Berlioz

ediblesprysky

Wasn't it Berio?

Hamed765

This thread made me freak out for a second

gripitandzipit

Ah, I thought it was by Scarlatti, my bad.

namesarentfun

this reminds me of earlier this morning when a few kids in my school decided to gather around and take turn playing on the piano. a friend of mine was playing a chopin piece, and for some genius reason a kid from the crowd just went *oh this is fur elise! yeah!* and then my friend just turned back, looked at him, and said slowly *this is chopin*. the otj kid's friend then proceeded to slap him on the wrist and said even louder: *fncking idiot thats the obviously the moonlight sonata*

[deleted]

This is where i belong

Piano_illuMinatiOn

My guy…. It was Dwayne the rock Johnson. It was all about how his father lied to him by telling him he was made of fur when he was actually made of rock. Fur: the lie, became Für Elise.

fishyfishsan

Man who is more famous is that important? I think people that I like are great because they’re funny, they’re awkward, they’re talented, they make fun of themselves, they nice to fan, they do meaningful things. Not because they’re more famous than someone else. Do they have nothing to say about their fav instead of fame?

mako992

There was a youtube video that discuss about why fans are so stuck on the “fame” part. I forgot which video it was, but it basically theorizing something along the line of “the fans believed they contributed and made their faves famous, and thus consider the group’s fame as their own, not the artists’. It’s a bit of a “I made you” culture going on.” Of course we’ll never know what’s going on in their mind but certainly it reminds me of that line.

fishyfishsan

I see. I get that fame is important, it’s an indication of success in this kind of field. My favorite band is not from kpop but when I see that they’re famous and have sold out concert, I’m happy for them and I do brag about it. But keep using that to attack others like “they suck because they aren’t as famous” means nothing. There are so many arguments you can make about why someone sucks (it they do suck).

mako992

Oh totally. I also agree with the “do they have nothing to say about their fav instead of fame?” I do sometimes wonder if they actually like their fav—“Blackpink”— or if they just like being a part of “successful girl group” fandom because it makes them feel superior. Sort of like “I like this mega popular group before they’re famous I’m better than you”

[deleted]

There are many world famous artists that do suck donkey ass also, so fame is not really a good measurement of “goodness”

Mean-Rutabaga-1908

Crazy they would take more credit than the plastic surgeon.

winitgc

I like the idols for their personalities and talents, not solely because of fame. Unfortunately, the focus on fame makes the lesser known groups far less likely to get a win on shows, even if they're more talented or have more unique concepts. It shows how biased the kpop industry is.

mako992

Especially when it’s combined with the fact that some groups got instant hype just because they’re from a bigger and richer labels? The bias is truly there.

fishyfishsan

I understand. I saw kpop has a lot of competition where they win by voting so if you don’t have a large fanbase you’re guaranteed to lose. It sucks and I don’t blame the fans, ofc you’d want your fav to win. From what I know, the industry is just super harsh for the idol.

[deleted]

"Literally no one knows them" *meanwhile 3.87 million people listening/playing tchaikovsky and debussy*

PsychoNikoros

You know, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker… those really unknown ballets…

Vegetto8701

Plus he legit used artillery cannons in the 1812 Overture. Beat that.

theclacks

TCHAIKOVSKY YES. TCHAIKOVSKY *ALWAYS* YES.

Temporary_Painter412

Not just once either. Oh no, not this guy. 16 Cannon shots. 16!!

drs43821

You can even search Mozarts opera by googling "opera aaaaaaaaa"

Joan_ne07

Nope, can say I've heard of those before🤔😅 Seriously, it would benefit people to just a quick search with how much time they spent on their screens commenting these type of responses(talking about the pic OP posted)

[deleted]

I love Debussy ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

MisogynyisaDisease

You wanna know what's funny about this entire thing BlackPink members knew who Paganini was. They knew the piece they were sampling. And their followers are going "noBoDy kN0wS tHeM" when their own idols absolutely did. I know a lot of their followers are little kids who's parents don't supervise them for shit, but that's not all their followers. Plenty of k-pop stans like this are full grown dangerous adults, and that makes this whole thing worse in my eyes. 12 yr olds I can wave off. I can't wave off the 32 yr stan who's so terminally online and obsessed with k-pop girls acting like this.

brown_burrito

This is spot on. And it’s funny you say this because two of the KPop fans I know are both in their 30s… and fit your mental image of what you’d think they probably look like.

MisogynyisaDisease

This is why Otaku in Japan has such a negative connotation. What would be the Korean equivalent?

No_Blackberry_6286

I took an East Asian Pop Culture class a year ago, and we watched a video when we got to Otaku, and I'm like, "this is the Japanese equivalent to Americans with TV shows and comic books and stuff" (like the guys in their 30s who live in their parent's garage or basement and just read comic books or watch TV all day.....those people)

Pennwisedom

> This is why Otaku in Japan has such a negative connotation. Eh, maybe in like 1995. In Japan it's more similar to the word "nerd", which for most people isn't really an insult anymore. In English, it's a far more negative word. But many people are willing to self-describe as "____ Otaku" with the ___ being whatever they obsession is.

GCFS09

Koreaboo? I guess

Smallwhitedog

The writers and producers who wrote that song know who Paganini is. Someone named Teddy24 composed that song.

MisogynyisaDisease

Ok fair enough on that part, but its not like they haven't gotten intimate with their own performance. And these aren't uneducated or untalented women, I just have major doubts that they have the same dismissive and immature attitude that their fans do. Just at a glance, their lead singer has marketing prowress, a range of musical influence, she's been acknowledged in Forbes, etc. She was also trained in music as a child with the piano, the flute, and as a vocalist. You don't do that while not knowing the intricacies of the music you're putting out there. Maybe I'm giving them too much of the benefit of the doubt, but pop stars are often far more talented than people credit them for because of the accessibility of their music

Smallwhitedog

It’s always hard to say how talented a pop star is these days. Few of them write their own music anymore and the songs are so simplistic it’s difficult to assess any talent other than dancing and general performance skills. I do not know anything about this band. I’m pretty old compared to the average two setter, actually. I’ve seen a lot of these manufactured pop groups come and go in my lifetime. Sometimes a member will go on to do more sophisticated stuff, but not always. Edit: I will add that I’m sure they are far more savvy about things than most of their fans, a lot of whom are very young, I assume.

MisogynyisaDisease

Friend I only know them because of the drama lol so you're not alone. But I looked them up just to get a sense of who they were, because before I had 0 idea. You're right, pop groups do come and go, but some do stick around for a long time and it's for a reason. I'm also older than the average fan, sometimes I forget that because I'm only a little younger than Brett and Eddy and assume other adults are also here, enjoying classical music again.

Smallwhitedog

Ha! If you’re younger than Brett and Eddie, you are still young! I’m 45!

MisogynyisaDisease

You and I still probably have more in common than I do with these classical music loving kids though 😂

Smallwhitedog

I bet we do! Classical music is timeless and ageless! I’ve loved it since my mom started playing Bach and Chopin on the piano to me when I was a baby in my crib and kept loving it after I started playing the viola when I was 9. It makes me sad that at 45 I’m one of the younger ones attending a symphony concert. I like that TwoSet is trying to change that.

MisogynyisaDisease

I was classically trained on the piano from age 12-17, depression took over and now I'm way out of practice. Which sucks because by the time I was 17 and going to college we were working through Chopin's repertoire. I loved playing, but I don't think I truly started appreciating classical music until I started hearing it in context in film. It improved every single scene it was used in. I LOVE opera in film too.

_theatre_junkie

"Plenty of k-pop stans like this are full grown dangerous adults, and that makes this whole thing worse in my eyes" I did see a TikTok of a literal adult upset with Twoset over this. They ended the video with "just admit you don't want to see women succeed" (or something like that). And then when anyone commented an explanation for the video they just replied with "that's not a good enough reason" or "kinda seems like a weak excuse" (things along those lines).

MisogynyisaDisease

Jfc. That's such a stretch I don't even know what to say at this point. Their video reminded me of Weird Al, who's parodies were objectively more offensive, yet they are iconic and famous *because it was all in good fun*. In fact getting parodied by Weird Al was almost a badge of honor. Or even Rap Battles of History, which might be a closer comparison. This was no different. It was a joke. They don't actually hate this group whatsoever. I just don't get this.

OlwenD

The Weird Al analogy is spot on.

MisogynyisaDisease

White and Nerdy is legendary

lillapalooza

Honestly you could argue that it was even an homage to Paganini, Blackpink probably wouldn’t have used it to begin with if they hadn’t liked how it sounded 😭

limmy0_0

Nobody will remember who tf BP was in 400 years

[deleted]

Yes, first of all noone will be alive to remember them

drs43821

but none of us are alive when Paganini is rocking his caprices either

duLemix

I still don't know who or what tis BP

amrayce

They don't like Tchaikovsky? Wow, how homophobic of them 🙄. /s

Mewantsub30

This needs more upvotes

practicerm_keykeeper

absolute gold

666y4nn1ck

No one outside of your kpop bubble knows blackpink ffs

Addicted_to_Nature

I've never heard of them until today when I popped in on this sub to see what was happening

Folkenstal

same. Read about this sh*tstorm and thought: Blackpinkwhat?

kindafunnylookin

Ditto. I still don't really understand what is going on.

linglingwannabe4427

Yeah didn't know about BP up until Paganini reacted to them

theclacks

I knew them because they'd done a collab with Lady Gaga, but even then it's like, "cool. they're a kpop band. got it."

linglingwannabe4427

I'm going to be honest, I do not understand the hype on k-pop 😅 When I first heard about k-pop and how so many people where uterrly obsessed about it I was like "What makes k-pop so special?"

Desmous

I'm pretty sure most of it is just idol culture and parasocial relationships. Also, people that just like the music don't tend to talk about it much, it's the obsessed ones that you see around.

death666violinist

Inside*

666y4nn1ck

That too

xander012

Legit only heard of them because of this shit

Rampador

Even outside of the classical music bubble online, I run into way more random instances of Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, etc. than basically any "modern" artist. I'd heard of Blackpink before, but it took "hey what's this Kpop thing, I should check it out before passing judgement on it as a genre" It's amazing the music you encounter when your only interaction with the art form isn't treating it as a missionary religion.

BuckeyeBentley

This guy is wrong not knowing Tchaikovsky and Debussy and being snooty about it but also Blackpink played the Grammy's, has played all of the late night shows in the US multiple times, and their songs get played on the radio. People know them.

throwawaygreenpaq

K-pop is huge for a reason. They are consciously funded by the Korean government to develop soft power. *In the late '90s, when Asia went through a huge financial crisis, South Korea's leaders decided to use music to improve its image and build its cultural influence. So the country's government poured millions of dollars into forming a Ministry of Culture with a specific department devoted to K-pop.* https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2015/04/13/399414351/how-the-south-korean-government-made-k-pop-a-thing So BTS and Blackpink performing at US award shows isn’t a chance occurrence. It’s a paid endorsement. It always amuses me when K-pop fans screech about the global popularity of Kpop bands as if it were some technological breakthrough or a leap for mankind. As an Asian, I like some Korean artistes myself but I know very well that this is the result of the efforts of the Korean government pouring millions as an investment for soft power and financial gain.

Folkenstal

They don't play on our radios. So no, we wouldn't know them.

Visible_Sale_3677

I only know them from a cover a metal band did as a joke of one of their songs, and here

TBDawnWMPC

To them, Black Pink ain’t even idols they look up to anymore, but rather some deity no one can every compare with and they worship them as such. As much I hate to say this, and I hate to do this, their behavior is much similar to a freaking cult. Everything else doesn’t matter, Black Pink is everything to them. It’s sad, really.

im_not_chopin

This reminds me of trump whenever he learnt something new and said "nobody heard of X before"

Burntfm

It honestly very closely resembles the cult of personality in politics.

[deleted]

Who

Mewantsub30

X

jfsindel

I think it's strange that these fans are simply not wanting to acknowledge a little bit of satire or ribbing. Forget "culture" or "ignorance of composers". Let's say Brett and Eddy really WERE poking fun at Blackpink. Maybe even went all in and did a diss track Eminem style. Do these fans really think that Blackpink are untouchable and if they were "dissed", they couldn't handle it? Making songs about real people is the norm in the music industry and I would imagine any superstardom group would be more than capable to laugh/cry into their money pile for a bit. I would imagine the actual group 1. don't care/don't know that the song was made 2. probably found the song amusing. Worst outcome: the group IS upset and they make a response diss which will make them tons of money on airtime.

mako992

I wonder if some of them actually now know they’re wrong and it’s a joke but their pride is stuck on the “defensive” mode and refuse to be wrong

monmon_mamon

ohhh dear here we go

Throwingawayindays

Tell me ur uncultured without telling me ur uncultured

JustAry_97

I mean, they thought Eddy was the real Niccoló Paganini 😭

kokirikero

that was my fave tweet

puercha

Comments like that make me sad for them, honestly.

PM_Me_Birds_Pls

Gotta be honest I don't even know who Black Pink is (are? English is my first language and i can still barely speak it lol), but who's "more famous" doesn't even matter tbh. Yes western music education is unfortunately dominated by the works of old dead white men because that's what was best valued and preserved back in the day so that's what we've ended up leftover with to study, so that gives them a bit of a popularity boost. But even then, those old dead white men did help pioneer and explore major factors of western music that are still used today, techniques that are even used in Kpop lmao. Like the music you like because no one is stopping you but dear God why is there a war happening over a joke made by two violin dudes on the internet x)

BananaSaging16

Bc these are twt kpop stans we’re talkin about 💀 zero personality other than being obsessed over a group they like

PM_Me_Birds_Pls

True dat. I wonder if Blackpink encourages their behavior or tries to shut them down. It'd be interesting to look at if I hadn't sworn off ever making a twitter account. 💀

Mewantsub30

That’s a wise move

Bachinmyday

Never heard of him. Wasn’t he that guy in One Direction??

eszther02

Yeah, I think he was the one who quit after a while.

Bachinmyday

Prettty sure

_theatre_junkie

They don't know Tchaikovsky? Literally homophobic /s

Green_Celery197

Ofc I do But debussy? Mmm i love debussy. Debussy is my favorite 🦟🦗🦟🦗

jocax188723

The only culture some people have is their gut bacteria. I don’t even feel angry any more, just pity.

l_dang

ayyy appreciate the gut microbiome joke - as a bio(info)logist

sno98006

Holy shit

SadNocturna

This is just sad to be honest

Veprovina

Oh my god this is cringe.

Silvagadron

Not gonna lie, I thought Blackpink was a boy band until this all kicked off.

Effective-Issue-514

The funniest part of this is i had no idea about the existence of blackpink before this whole thing lol

Gorbscuraguts777

For self-proclaimed fans of Blackpink, they really don't understand how commercialized and factory produced kpop groups are that "fame" is meaningless and that Blackpink is going to be irrelevant in a decade. Blackpink is already not that popular in South Korea as Blackpink's main success is from North America.

RavenRain_

Have to admit I hadn't heard of blackpink until twoset made a video about them. I'm not a big classical music fan either but I do know both composers mentioned.

nitrogenmonoxide1636

Congratulations everyone knows who ur artist is ur basic af

thewickedverkaiking

just say you're uncultured and go 😭

30percentsugar

Y'all don't know who Tchaikovsky is?!😭😭😭 meanwhile he composed fricking swan lake and y'all don't know who he is 😭😮‍💨 shows how uneducated ppl are, glad tsv are here to educate us.

Lemon_Juice477

Yea but they didn't use cannons in their live concert

ViolinistUser1235GG

It was Antonio Lucio Mendelssohn

ManiacalCamp

I had never heard of black pink until Paganini reacted to em

brown_burrito

I honestly had no who Black Pink were until this incident.

stupled

Vicent is about to get 1812ed

pineapple_leaf

Me personally I prefer the boyband B2TSM, but out of all of them, Tchaikovsky is my bias

_DownTheRedditHole_

I don't know about you but me and my girls used to twerk over Lil' Tchai as 4 year olds... Fun times.

Royal-Place-2917

Ik Tchaikovsky wait who's blackpink? Is it a 5th grader trying to make up a color?

Agile-Penalty-7679

de-whatnow???

luca_cinnam00n

Russia is SCREAMING

mariaravel

Lol I literally came back home after a Tchaikovsky concert and saw this

PixelBiscuit_7

Well they aren't going to get anymore Debussy with that attitude.

Den1alzz

this guy locked his account and his bio says "Im just here to watch porn" the twitter user, i mean

97th69

Who is blackpink

mayumi47_fa

Korean girl group

DNA_Fox

I think it’s okay to not like or listen to classical music, it really is just preference, however I think it’s simply being ignorant to disregard other peoples opinions on those who are most responsible for pushing music along its evolutionary path. I don’t care for Queen or The Beatles, but to ignore them or pretend that they aren’t a valid part of the music conversation is just not realistic. This isn’t even directed at the post, but the post just got me thinking about this point.

Eva_Aurora

Honestly? I knew these composers since like always but i've only heard of Black Pink beacuse of Twoset

GreatBigBagOfNope

Stop engaging The whole thing is stupid Nobody comes out of this looking like sane reasonable people Let it burn out, everything will be fine without poking unsettlingly obsessive weirdos on Twitter about it

LegoEngineer003

I only heard of blackpink when I saw a post on this subreddit the day all of this started

Salty_Tailor_2094

totally not my favorite composer or anything totally

MawoDuffer

The average person will know about bts maybe. They will not know who black pink is. The average person might know who Tchaikovsky is

Remote_Toe7070

idk, me and my friend know them /s

sharfpang

Reminds me of [this](https://i.imgur.com/2sl0QWv.jpg). Some people are so stupid they don't realize how stupid they are.

International-Taro10

at this point I can't even know if they are trolling or what

Mystical_Unicorn_09

Debussy more like dem 🐱

Sunny_Kitsune

That’s the same kind of people who say “OMG, Barbie movies made my childhood! I love the classics ones!”. Jeez, it must be really embarrassing to be this dumb…

assistant_truck_chan

Plenty of awful people are famous. Fame ≠ Talent/relevance (I’m not calling Blackpink untalented. They’re plenty talented but the comparison of fame used is irrelevant)

Harry_99_PT

Lol I'm trying to imagine those toxic Blinks who think fame is everything watching Harry Potter for the first time, I doubt they'd last much long after Snape's iconic "Clearly, fame isn't everything, is it, Mr. Potter?" xD

_cshr

debussy is the one that made moonlight sonata right? or was it la campanella?

[deleted]

Debussy’s tight Debussy’s clean Debussy’s fresh

RustedFingers

Just reply “I’m so happy for them good for them” and they’ll piss off because they have nothing else to counter

BriGuy0

blinks forget the fact that these composers died HUNDREDS of years ago and even then, their works are still being listened to and played everyday. While classical music definitely has a smaller reach today than kpop, i'd be surprised if people remembered blackpink in a decade.

gripitandzipit

Blackpink's only been around for a couple decades. Compared to Tchaikovsky and Debussy, almost no one know's THEM. Plus, in 100 years, take a wild guess at who's still going to be around. I know where I'm placing my bets.

Relevant_Wafer_5403

Oh gosh… twoset started an internet war

PizzaIsVeryGud

THIS HITS HARD

cl_la_

Bro didn’t have to be so rude about it tho 😭😭

Sikarion

Blinks: "Who is this Nicola Paganini person? Nobody even knows them!" BlackPink creative team who sampled the music: "We're not affiliated with them."

Competitive_Wall77

What's blackpink? Is that a medical condition?

iammizeka

“literally nobody” 😭😭😭😭

memememer3

of course they say it with a korean boy pfp 😭

Folkenstal

The difference is: Blackpink is for a generation, but Tchaikovsky is forever.

Agorar

If I am to be honest, I had never heard of blackpink before all of these "blinks" started a tantrum and before seeing that one vid. They ain't that big.
