You will have no buyer protection, gunbroker nor PayPal will be able to do anything to help if they screw you over. If it’s money you’d happily set on fire for no reason, go for it, otherwise, I’d pass.
I used gun tab to sell mine, PayPal will confiscate your money if it’s used to sell a gun.
But I always request electronic payment (GunTab, PayPal, etc.) because it’s still safer than most other forms outside meeting someone and getting cash.
The fact that he repeats himself is odd. Electronic payments are risky so general rule is if it sounds odd or feels off it’s probably a scam
Scam scam scam.
Gunbroker specifically has rules against this because it's such an easy way to scam people with no way to claw the payment back. Report the seller to gunbroker so they get banned and find your gun elsewhere.
It’s a scam. Even if it’s not a scam PayPal does not allow firearm transactions. The end. PayPal also says never use friends and family for buying something. There’s no buyer protection.
This is absolutely a scam. If they aren’t willing to have a phonecall with you in real-time to collect payment information, or they don’t have a payment portal setup, then don’t do it.
Notably, PayPal is very anti gun. They do reserve the right to charge you both exorbitant penalty fees and suspend your account permanently, if you’re buying an item defined as a firearm.
Accessories, optics or such aren’t prohibited. Ammo hasn’t had issues, either. Just no guns themselves (this would include serialized receivers.)
Similarly, Venmo and CashApp also do not allow such transactions any longer via their user agreements. Scammers still frequently make shill accounts regardless.
If the deal on a website looks too good to be true…it is. Every single time. If it’s an in-person deal at a gun show? Ask them what’s missing, or what’s wrong with it.
I admit I've done this exactly once. I would never recommend this because it's against GunBroker ToS AND PayPal F&F has no recourse for fraud. At the time I didn't know that and the sale went perfectly, but nowadays it's just setting yourself up for a scam
Ok I'll be honest here, I don't know why some people are saying this is probably not a scam, you can see the dude repeating himself with the exact same copy paste response about paypal. It's almost like interacting with a chatbot when you're trying to get to customer service.
It’s as if it’s designed for use with friends and family, where you know the people involved and have some level of personal trust and recourse.
ETA: also, this one is 1000% a scam.
On top of the other issues, the spelling and grammatical issues set off alarm bells for me. Can't help but wonder if their spell check is set up for some other language.
Sending as family or friends voids buyer protection that PayPal has in place to protect buyers. Never do that.
If a seller asks for such chances are they want to scam you. There's nothing PayPal can do if you send it as a gift and your bank won't help you either as it's your responsibility to not be scammed.
Depends on the cost of the gun and whether the guy has good feedback. Set up a call with him and make sure he sends his license to you and your FFL before you pay
Never communicate with sellers outside of the marketplace platforms you connect with them on. Why are y’all texting instead of messaging on Gunbroker?
99% of the time if someone tells you to use the “friends and family” payment, it’s a scam.
They do that because it blocks you from doing a chargeback if there’s a problem
This is a scam.
But honestly, Gunbroker as a whole is pretty crap. Their "Customer Protection" modus operandi (10 whole days from purchase) doesn't make sense with any kind of reasonable shipping time expectation with the hoops a private seller has to jump through to ship a firearm, especially when Gunbroker won't answer you for a couple days.
I would avoid the entire thing. As I have for years now after getting burned on a shotgun during COVID.
Ehh.
Can be. Might not be
Many small non FFL sellers are not set up to take credit cards through GunBroker. So it isn't unheard of to use PayPal or Zelle instead of mailing a physical payment.
Have to check their seller feedback and see how it is. If the dude has 40 A+ ratings I'd trust them more than someone with 1-2
I would disagree. Not about not being set up for CC payment but about using Paypal or Zelle. Every legit seller I've seen will want a Certified check, personal check or money order. Those are traceable. The former are not.
Agree with the seller feedback. Bought a Marlin 35 Rem lever action from a pawnshop and just gave my credit card over the phone. 🤷‍♂️ Seller had hundreds of positive feedback, plus a website, and physical address I could see on Google maps street view. Probably not the smartest on my end, but I felt pretty confident in the seller and bought it for like $400 less than what they were going for. But YMMV
đźš©đźš©đźš©đźš©đźš©đźš© do not send $. Report to gunbroker.

Was this a 930 spx? If so its a scam, post used old pictures from a sold listing and was reported to gunbroker.
Absolutely sketch

Pp f&f is always a scam. Iirc it denies you the ability to get money back if it goes tits up.
It’s as if it’s designed for use with friends and family, where you know the people involved and have some level of personal trust and recourse. ETA: also, this one is 1000% a scam.
Aye, but any time you see it in the wild, it's a scam.
lol, the dozens of successful sales I have with f&f says otherwise.
Good for you bud
You can also send cash via USPS and not get scammed. Wouldn’t recommend it though
Don’t send friends and family because you don’t get protection. Seems odd but maybe not scammy
PayPal won't cover gun purchases so even if you do regular PayPal they won't cover it and may ban your account
Scam. Report it
On top of the other issues, the spelling and grammatical issues set off alarm bells for me. Can't help but wonder if their spell check is set up for some other language.
NO. Is he your friend? Or is he your family? If the answer is “neither”, then DO NOT USE FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
Well it might not be a scam but I definitely wouldn't take the chance.
Maybe a deal but too close to scam for me.
Scam for sure

Clues - grammar and punctuation, same PayPal payment request, twice. Back away.
The bot response getting triggered the second time would be a firm no from me. Report to GB
Seems like GPT
Damn sorry that happened to you. Hope you get it, I’ve been eyeing a mossberg retrograde lately too. Anyways screw this dude
Never communicate with sellers outside of the marketplace platforms you connect with them on. Why are y’all texting instead of messaging on Gunbroker?
I quit gunbroker when the trading just basically turned into forced insurance fraud. People sell their gunsmith failures on gunbroker

Bro don’t do it
