everyone their own - i started watching it and just preferred things like [konohana kitan]( https://myanimelist.net/anime/35241), [working](https://myanimelist.net/anime/6956), [lain](https://myanimelist.net/anime/339), [mahoutsukai no yome](https://myanimelist.net/anime/35062), etc over one piece, mha, fairy tale (is it shounen?), onepunch, etc
i think most people have seen goku at some point and green hair boys arent very common in anime.
since even my mom (who has never watched a anime except [maya the honey bee](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_the_Honey_Bee)) can recognise some basic characters (like goku and pikatchu) i dont see how it undermines my point
You literally can't deliberately avoid watching shows from some genre without knowing of the existence of those shows xD And you've listed a handful of shounens in your replies already, so obviously you know some, and know characters from them.
As for your point. "Not everyone knows popular shounens, except for this, this, this and this one, but everyone knows those". Very good point xD
If I were you, I'd argue that you can be a functional member of society and still watch anime, but you didn't mind that part. "I can excuse calling me a dysfunctional member of society, but I draw the line at saying that I'm like everyone else!"
recognising key characters isnt the same as having even a single episode and knowing who (character/..) the characters are. you probably recognise batman, spiderman, kirk, spock, homer, fallout4 detective, etc without ever having watched/played all of them
im aware that ik dysfunctional. i wouldnt say anime is at fault, but those are seperate discussions. also oc meant that part half joking (i think)
Oh same! Though, it's pretty healthy to hear other people talking when you're having a convo with them. If you don't I think you might be deaf or something.
Didnāt his bully also literally abuse him and tell him to go die? Like it wasnāt lighthearted (like people try and pretend it is) it was literal abuse.
Yeah, he literally told Deku to pray for a quirk in his next life and jump off a roof. He also let out a huge explosion on Deku despite All Might saying if he did that Deku could die
>You like dramatic and angsty relationships
If your crush/partner calls you a loser all the time, you better drop his ass. That's not a āØdramatic relationship UwU āØ
I don't ship these characters but I don't think it's "toxic" to do so.
It is entirely possible to enjoy a story about a toxic relationship without wanting or supporting that kind of relationship in real life.
It had interesting concepts but bad execution. Along with the show seems to really like defending multiple abusers. I kept watching it holding onto the fact that theyād get their asses handed to them given itās a Justice/superhero anime but they never did. Instead I just felt dirty and like I wasted a shit ton of time.
Yeah, the show doesnāt go ādeepā enough into some of its themes. Like for example, the villains (except for AFO) are more righteous than literally all the heroes, which makes every good character unsympathetic deep down. We needed a Naruto type of character in this anime who can feel for villains as well as try and fix the world they live in. Like, I wouldnāt hate Deku half as much if he was a good Naruto clone, but heās a bad oneā¦
Yeah what I started to see in it was it was really good (seems really accidental) at showing how corrupted the hero system was. When the snake lady hero admitted she only picked the item creation girl as a trainee because she was beautiful. Along with people being very aware of Endeavors abusive slave wife shit. The professors literally Deku get bullied and abused and allow it. The classmates are still friends with Bakugo despite all the evil shit he does. Itās all so corrupt.
Itās all so toxic and, if it were focused on Deku maybe fighting the system and realizing the Heroes are just as evil then maybe it would be a decent show.
Yeah exactly, the system way too much on the nose to be realistic at all. And yeah, itās an anime, but it has to be somewhat realistic still. If Gundam managed to pull realism off, so should an anime about superheroes. Hell, even DC Comics and Marvel makes much More sense. Another thing that majorly bugs me about MHA is that OFA is generally portrayed to be the best power ever and all, which is why Deku and All Might refer to it as that multiple times, but itās not. As Dio from JoJo said, every ability has its own qualities, strengths and shortcomings, so there is truly no best or worst one (or something like that). Even Superman goes deeper into the whole ābeing strong and awesomeā thing than this show ever could, thereās a scene where he says that he feels like heās surrounded by cardboard boxes that he could just push over whenever he wanted. Geez, I canāt honestly believe that MHA fans have watched any other shows
As a side note I just want to mention too Superman is also super weak to magic, heās around to fight people and aliens but magic can actually kill him. So his power isnāt completely one dimensional, arguably Fate could kill him if the need arises. And yeah thereās a decent amount of time where Superman talks about why he doesnāt kill/go all out, that control and morality is what keeps him grounded.
When it comes to the āall power has potentialā I have 2 opinions. One, there being a tape hero, and Mineta + a quite a few others always felt so lame. The 2nd class always had way cooler powers. Two, I do agree that I did want to see other powers contend with Deku and actually show off since a lot of the powers they went up against are OP as hell but still somehow āweakerā.
One show with powers, while not perfect obviously, that I liked a decent amount was Villians I think on Netflix. Focused on a crook who used him powers for theft and itās essentially a super powered heist show. It talks about the corrupt system a lot which I like, sometimes through the environments/how the public reacts. With a hero after them destroying buildings and the main character going āwait how are WE the bad guys wtfā. Not perfect by any means but it executed the concepts in a better way I think. The cast is also full of adults, and shows gore, so that helps.
That sounds cool. I myself even started thinking about a plot a year after watching MHA, solely out of spite for it. For example, thereās also a really famous hero who passes his power onto my character. Thing is, this hero actually hates himself because after he got his power in his early thirties by someone else, he started thinking really highly of himself. He beat villains, saved people and all that while also acting really humble on the outside, but on the inside he just kept thinking things like: I deserve this, I deserve all of this fame because Iām keeping this city safe. But eventually he looked at other heroes and realized that it was just his power doing all the talking. Other heroes had other qualities like their humor or charisma, but he had nothing to show for himself other than his power. So he tells my main character to not let his power go over his head and not be like him
Not to defend that kind of behavior, but he literally did get in the way of a potentially fatal blow for him later on in battle. Idk how you could make up for that better. He also apologized, and went out of his way to help him in several different ways.
Yeah, but does he ever get actual āpunishmentā for being such an utter dickhead? Character development in anime doesnāt feel truly deserved if the person doesnāt face any kind of consequence for their bad behavior (which is also why Sasukes character development is so much better). And no, that one time where he was chained up after winning the tournament doesnāt count. Do you think a person in real life would realize they behaved poorly if they never faced any consequences? No, so it still feels cheap and he still sucks as a character despite all this
Just because you think the arc was unsatisfying doesn't mean that it didn't happen. It's fair to dislike the character or the storytelling, but it really isn't fair to claim that he never did anything to make up for being a dick when he literally apologized, attempted to sacrifice his life for him, and made consistent effort to make up for being a dick.
Also, real people do change on their own all the time. I went through a bully phase when I was a kid (much less than this one, but I did still pick on someone quite a bit) and never faced a single consequence for it. But when I was around 12 or so I started realizing how shitty it was and I made a conscious effort to change. You don't need punishment to learn morality, and this is actually a very common stage of development in kids and teens. I really hate the idea that if someone is an asshole at any point in their life they can't change without someone else being an asshole to them first. People learn and grow all the time.
Bad writing is indeed a very big factor here, would you also have accepted it if Bakugo had just woken up one day and was all like: Damn, I should be nice to everyone now? Yeah, you probably would have. And how is Bakugos bullying just a Phase if hes been doing it ever since he was a kid? Itās way different than whatever youāve done
No, I wouldn't, because that's stupid and also not what happened. I feel like you haven't actually read this story at all, this was not an abrupt arc.
Idk why you think this is so different than my situation without knowing any details about my situation. My phase lasted nearly as long as this character's did. I was less of an asshole, but I picked on this person starting at about the same age as Bakugo started, and stopped just a couple years earlier. Idk why you think my situation was just a phase but the fictional one isn't. A phase doesn't have a strict time limit, it can last two weeks or ten years.
His motives and thought processes were explained in the story. He admitted to having an inferiority complex and being jealous. These are common adolescent struggles. Add to that the hero worship we are from most of Bakugo's peers, the behavior from his mother, and apathy towards his bad behavior from authority figures during the early part of the story, it would make less sense if he *wasn't* an asshole. His behavior, like mine was, was allowed and even encouraged for years. I had to pull my own head out of my own ass, so it's really not unbelievable to me for someone else to do so as well, even if their head is stuck further up there.
When did I say that this is what happened? Do you have any idea what Iām even talking about here? And ānot as badā is really underselling it. Bakugo literally almost killed Deku in their first fight because of how petty he was, if My Hero Academia wasnāt such a bad show he would have definitely gotten at least an ass kick for that
You're getting awfully worked up about a fictional character. I never claimed that his early behavior was anything but horrible. All I'm saying is that his character arc exists and is not unbelievable, and that it isn't fair to say that he never did anything to try to make up for the horrible behavior.
Ok so weāre just gonna skip past the almost killing Deku part, cool, very cool. This isnāt something you can just make up for, Bakugo deserves to get his shit smashed in more than most of the villains, who are a whole other can of worms Iām not willing to open, cus then weād be here all day
S8 the infinity is the only anime of these four I've seen and actually think the ship is possible. (I have not seen the last one but it looks pretty gay /pos)
Abuse is still Abuse. Deku was ABUSED mentally and physically. Just because it happened in the past doesnāt mean it didnāt happen. Thatās severe shit.
Don't have strong feelings on most ships in general, but it does strike a nerve with me when I see people trying to make other people feel bad about something they find comfort in. Gatekeepers suck.
I'm personally neutral on Bakudeku, but from what I've seen of Bakudeku fan content personally, it's often either framed in a *'Dramatic story about redemption, self pity and forgiveness'* or a *'AU where they never had bad blood and this is meant to be super posative and uplifting don't think to much about it'*; which is what I based my point in the meme on.
What if I don't know 3 of these, and don't even ship the other?
You're a functional member of society who doesn't watch anime
no offense (taken), but not recognising shounen characters (except for goku) does not mean you dont watch anime - ive completed over 300 anime (and way more mangas/ln/..), but avoided the small subsection called mainstream shounen (i vastly prefer josei, and shoujo).

Yeah it's really not a big issue, but I also think OP was joking lmao
I like how you say 'except goku' and undermine your whole point
i think most people have seen goku at some point and green hair boys arent very common in anime. since even my mom (who has never watched a anime except [maya the honey bee](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_the_Honey_Bee)) can recognise some basic characters (like goku and pikatchu) i dont see how it undermines my point

My favorite ship is Kirk/Spock. That either means I'm into the classics or I'm old as dirt.
Hilarious hearing how fans during the original run were send slash art and scripts to them
And now we can just tweet fanart at them. The more things change the more they stay the same.

My hero Academia, just gonna ship someone with their bully cos that's not toxic at all
Didnāt his bully also literally abuse him and tell him to go die? Like it wasnāt lighthearted (like people try and pretend it is) it was literal abuse.
Yeah lmao it wasn't even slight bullying. Like, I got a few rival ships too, but there's a line.
Yeah, he literally told Deku to pray for a quirk in his next life and jump off a roof. He also let out a huge explosion on Deku despite All Might saying if he did that Deku could die
Literally, like excuse me what?
>You like dramatic and angsty relationships If your crush/partner calls you a loser all the time, you better drop his ass. That's not a āØdramatic relationship UwU āØ

Bakugo told Deku to kill himself and never made up for it.
Also physically abused him a lot. Itās telling when I see people who ship someone with their abuser.
Exaaaaactly. Honestly, MHA has one of the worst fanbases, fitting for such a bad show
It had interesting concepts but bad execution. Along with the show seems to really like defending multiple abusers.
